Are you in the hospital still @Elle1709? That fear is very normal, I didn't sleep well with my first as I was always checking he's breathing. If you're home perhaps let your partner take turns with you till you feel a bit more at ease. And try to force yourself to sleep, the adrenaline wears off and fatigue will kick in.

Beanniebaby22 · 02/11/2022 07:55

Congratulations @Kathno4 🥰

Elle1709 · 02/11/2022 09:30

@greenerfingers thanks for the advice. I'm still in hospital but should be going home today. I'm sure like you say it will get better with time, I had a lot of adrenaline last night over thinking everything!

CurlsnLipstick · 02/11/2022 10:00

@smiles39 37 weeks is a pretty good milestone to get to. It's a good thing you're getting checked today. I feel the same about inductions but it seems if baby doesn't come by Friday they'll have to book me in.

@Elle1709 I remember with my first I didn't get a wink of sleep the first few nights. Got disoriented and emotional. Accept as much help as possible. Easier said than done.

greenerfingers · 02/11/2022 10:06

Ah that makes sense, rest definitely becomes easier once home. Hospitals have a way about them.

Dontbeaneejit · 02/11/2022 10:14

39+6 today and in for my induction. Just on a monitor now and then they will examine to see if they can break my waters or if I have to have 6 hours of gel first 😕 really praying I get away with just breaking waters. At my sweep on Monday my bishops score was 7 and she said I was already 2cm so really really hoping this is not long and drawn out!

OtiMama · 02/11/2022 14:14

@Elle1709 you get to know later down the line that sleep is so important and really helps everything but what you're doing is so normal, it's hard to switch off when you've got this beautiful newborn to look at, study every detail and worry about. It will be easier once you're back at home.

@Kathno4 glad baby has arrived, congratulations!

@ALittleBitofVitriol hope all goes well for you tomorrow. how exciting!

@Dontbeaneejit hope things progress quickly for you, sounds like you're ready!

Shock horror I actually slept well last night. I woke up a few times but went back to sleep straight away which is unheard of nowadays. My Mum is into Rebozo, this technique where you use a piece of material and shake the bump/bum. I don't know a huge amount about it but she did it on me last time and it was good. My back has been so much better since, hence the better sleep! Also meant to be good for baby positioning.

Somethingabitdifferent22 · 02/11/2022 14:32

hey All! Hope everyone is well!

I’ve just come from the hospital… I declined my sweep I’m 38+6 today.. we’ve moved house over the weekend thankfully we’ve got so much done in 4 days but I still don’t feel ready to bring a baby here so I said I didn’t want to have it done.

midwife was really nice about it said if I changed my mind to call her. but did tell me I need to see the consultant sooner again now and have another growth scan next week at 39+6 because I’ve declined the first sweep. they’ve booked me in for another for the same time as my growth scan which to me seemed just a little bit pointless…

this is my third baby and I’ve never felt so confused in all my life!

it’s also my little girls first birthday on my due date of the 10th next week.. and I wanted to avoid them having the same birthday 😂

does anyone know if baby doesn’t come by my next appointment next week if I can decline the next sweep?

they have told me I need to be induced at 41 if baby hasn’t come because of my blood clotting but I’m feeling a bit backed into a corner!

xx

TFMinx · 02/11/2022 14:42

I've just had some reflexology to try and get things moving. I was a fan of it before pregnancy, but oh my goodness the feeling of someone squeezing my feet was wonderful! If you haven't tried it you have nothing to lose Smile

greenerfingers · 02/11/2022 15:20

Hey @Somethingabitdifferent22, I felt like this during my first pregnancy. The consultant was quite rigorous in pushing for a stretch/sweep or an induction at 37/38/39 weeks. I refused every single time and by the end was sick of the growth scans. You don't have to do anything you don't want to. You simply say no I'd rather let things progress naturally till 41/42 weeks (or whatever it is you'd like), and be firm. My doctor made me sign a sheet to say I'm going against medical advice then backed off. My baby came naturally at 39+6 and I'm so glad I avoided intervention and really didn't see the need to rush things before I even hit my due date. There's a website with all your birth rights, anyone know what it's called? Have a read of it as it really helped me, even with the wording I chose when speaking to the consultants etc.

This time I might consider a sweep (not that they have a high rate of success) but we shall see.

Im also trying to avoid my kids having the same birthday as my due date is a week after my firsts 😅.

CurlsnLipstick · 02/11/2022 17:00

I had a sweep today only because the next weeks induction is looming closer.
My BP is still low but baby is doing great so feel like I can hang in there.
@Somethingabitdifferent22 like @greenerfingers don't feel intimidated. Sometimes their hands are tied and they want to avoid any blame or litigation if God forbid anything wrong happened.

@TFMinx that sounds great.Never had it done before. Will look into it for the future.

smiles39 · 02/11/2022 21:17

@NotAdultingToday I’m all good, just got home from second visit to hospital today 🙄 they can’t be sure my waters have broken so just gotta wait it out. I know my body, I know they broke and I think because baby’s head is so low it has stemmed the flow a bit. The pressure down below today is unreal so they’ve definitely moved down, no signs of any contractions yet.

tb4122 · 02/11/2022 21:24

Can anyone describe braxton hicks for me? I've had a fair amount of painless tightenings since about 28 weeks but they've got less since I finished work and don't spend so long standing up.

Today has been a bit weird, we went shopping to get some last minute baby bits about 90 minutes away and I vomited on the journey, having not vomited since about 24 weeks (sorry about the inside of your van, DP Blush). I was OK while we were there but I think I overdid the walking and on the journey home I had some fairly significant tightenings in my lower abdomen, they were reasonably painful like period cramps and I had to breathe through some of them. They have continued this evening despite a shower and putting my feet up. I've tried to drink a fair bit of water because I don't think I've drunk enough today. They are irregular but quite painful, but all in the front and lower abdomen, rather than feeling like my whole uterus. Baby is moving well and I've lost no mucus plug and no suspicion of waters leaking.

I'm assuming these are braxton hicks due to a bit of dehydration and too much activity? I'm 37+4 and could do with baby staying in for another week or so at least so we can finish the DIY we rather unwisely started and get the house suitable for his arrival!

greenerfingers · 02/11/2022 23:34

I wish I could help @tb4122, with my first, my waters broke, a slow leak and contractions started immediately. This time I do get tightenings and back pain if I walk or stand for too long. I don't think I got braxton hicks before though (do tightenings count as braxton hicks). Hopefully after a nights sleep your body will calm down and baby will stay in till you get everything done.

I have my procedure tomorrow and I'm very nervous and excited/scared. They said it will be very painful and I'll only have gas and air so to be prepared, joyous joys! I also have no idea what time they want me in and won't find out till tomorrow.

SUSB2016 · 03/11/2022 00:51

Hi all! Jumping on here as I'm 39 weeks today with DD2. DD1 just turned 2 and was a covid baby so pregnancy was quite stressful. This pregnancy has been a breeze in comparison...until today. I don't know what's happened but I'M BRICKING IT all of a sudden. I have no idea how DD1 will react to a new sibling, or even me being away whilst in labour. Please tell me these nerves are normal, they've literally come out of nowhere! A few days ago I just wanted the baby to come already but now I'm not so sure that I'm ready for 2 :/

Dontbeaneejit · 03/11/2022 02:17

Baby girl born at 11:01pm. Back to back labour and honestly the hardest thing I've ever done. But so super fast in the end. 3 hours established and 5 minutes of pushing. I'm soooo glad it's over!

mjb0616 · 03/11/2022 03:09

@Dontbeaneejit congratulations 🎉!! That is lovely news. I hope you are able to rest now and enjoy your beautiful arrival 💗

greenerfingers · 03/11/2022 03:47

Huge congratulations @Dontbeaneejit. Rest as much as you can now, and avoid awkward bending positions (I couldn't change my LO on a low changing table for a few days/weeks due to my back to back labour):

The nerves are normal @SUSB2016, I'd tell myself many have 2 under 2 and pull through it. You're getting a lot of the hard stuff out the way at once rather than having a break and having to do it all again just as you get your life back. If your little one can talk and understand I'd keep explaining mummy is going away to work or somewhere and that he/she will have an overnight stay but mummy WILL come back so be good.

CurlsnLipstick · 03/11/2022 06:01

Congratulations @Dontbeaneejit! That was a quick labour considering baby was b2b!! Enjoy your little one 💐🎉

OtiMama · 03/11/2022 06:43

Congratulations @Dontbeaneejit that was speedy. Hope you and baby are doing well.

@tb4122 my consultant said the way you know if it's real is they are consistent and time able where as general pains and BH aren't. When I overdo it I often get period like pains. Had quite a few last night.

@SUSB2016 I think it's quite normal to feel like you do. I've found this pregnancy a lot harder than my first during lockdown. The lack of ability to rest and more aches has got me this time. My son has just turned 2 and I haven't overly thought about how he will react until more recently. Generally is he is super independent and ignores babies but who knows once he's here!

@greenerfingers hope it goes OK for you today and isn't as bad as you think it will be.

My son had his settling in session at pre school yesterday, he loved it and didn't really come to me much so I'm sure he will be fine. He did however have a full on meltdown when he had to leave the toys! I am definitely seeing that toddler him is a lot harder work than he was as a baby!! He was also mega hungry as the snack is nowhere near as much as he eats. He is a big foodie but also burns a lot of energy. I definitely over did the sitting on the floor there as my back was bad when we got home.

Today I'm not sure if I'm mad but I'm going to see a family friend around 2 hours away with my mum... hoping baby doesn't make some sudden appearance. I always think I will have hours of knowing before but who knows!!

Bramblecrumble22 · 03/11/2022 08:40

Lovely to see all the births. So yesterday lunchtime a think my bump dropped, I can suddenly see my feet. Now, I've just had a second poo of the morning. Maybe the clear out. Maybe time getting near. No contractions or sign of mucus plug. Is my time getting near, who knows. I declined a sweep on Monday, didn't feel the need to rush things. 39+4 (39+6 according to my dates)

tb4122 · 03/11/2022 09:21

Congratulations to all who have had their babies, how exciting.

I think I'm the pains must have been from overdoing things as they haven't woken me up overnight (just the usual insomnia) and this morning they seem to be gone. Just a lot of pelvic pain now, so I think I definitely did too much walking. Pre-pregnancy I'd think nothing of a 10 mile walk so to me seeing that somewhere was 1.2 miles away my brain said "easy peasy" and my nearly 38 week pregnant body said "nope"...!

ALittleBitofVitriol · 03/11/2022 10:02
