Quick slightly off topic conversation....is it ok to paint a room with bog standard emulsion paint whilst pregnant??

tb4122 · 26/10/2022 16:17

OtiMama · 24/10/2022 21:43

We have a section for birth plan, it includes different sections to consider and questions to answer. Or you can just do your own one on paper and insert it. It includes things such as pain relief, once baby is born - Vitamin k options, injection for placenta or not etc. I have filled mine in to discuss with midwife but kept quite basic and "see as we go" which worked well for me last time.

Today baby seems lower but also pushing into my ribs at the same time. Just so bloody uncomfortable. Our local hospital has announced that the birth Centre is opening next to the Labour ward end of the month, so we are going to see it on Sunday. Hoping I can go there for birth providing scan this Wednesday confirms no more issues with fluid or growth. I live about 3 minute drive from the hospital so not far to go either way!

@OtiMama I'm wondering if you're local to me as I've just been told that the hospital birthing unit next to the labour ward is opening at the end of the month too. Is it SDH (hoping that'll mean something to you if it is but not be outing...!)? I asked my midwife if we could go and have a look around but she wasn't sure.

wibblewobbleball · 26/10/2022 16:39

@Somethingabitdifferent22 I'm wondering if they do something similar around Christmas etc too, because if you look on the ONS website it shows that Christmas and Boxing Day are very light on births!! But there's a couple of peaks before and after... I'm wondering whether there's a lot of inductions sections etc pushed, or maybe asked for, to avoid those dates?! www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/articles/howpopularisyourbirthday/2015-12-18

wibblewobbleball · 26/10/2022 16:40

God I'm a geek with too much time on their hands... I need this baby to arrive Grin

sarahj878 · 26/10/2022 18:29

@roobearbaby I asked my midwife about painting and she said she would discourage me from doing it myself but that it was fine to do/be around if in a well ventilated area and felt ok. I read up on paints however and think it is the VOC content which can be harmful (in large quantities) so for safety we chose water-based (not oil), low VOC paint, and the B&Q staff were very helpful at advising which fitted the bill.

Beanniebaby22 · 26/10/2022 19:19

That’s me off work now 🥳 so glad to get finished today!

TFMinx · 26/10/2022 19:45

Congratulations @Beanniebaby22 it's such a good feeling isn't it.

Although im 38weeks today, im hoping I can hold on until Tuesday as then she'll definitely be a November baby 😊 so excited! I still haven't packed my hospital bag yet, I feel like I'm inviting her out if I do, plus my DS is going to grandparents for a couple of nights, so you just know she'll seize the opportunity to arrive just as I've been given a couple of days to rest!

ALittleBitofVitriol · 26/10/2022 21:03

@wibblewobbleball a friend of mine was induced early near Christmas, because her Ob was going on leave 😒

starflake · 26/10/2022 22:52

@wibblewobbleball i was induced on my last DD as I was due Christmas Eve and I wanted it over with before Xmas so was brought in at 39 weeks. I was nervous about going into labour over Xmas and all the docs being off and something happen to me or baby. The midwives did say that most people choose the same and over Xmas it’s like tumbleweed in the maternity unit.

rickandmorts · 26/10/2022 23:28

Hi all, just checking in and placemarking on the new(ish) thread. Can't believe some of you guys are at term already!! I'm still only 35 weeks so a bit to go yet.

Is the Facebook group active/ do people post in there? If it is could someone send me the link please? 😊

CurlyNo2 · 27/10/2022 02:57

I’ve given up on sleep tonight.

It’s 3.00am and I’m tucking into a big bowl of rice crispies downstairs.

I tried to reposition myself in so many ways to try and ease the pain in my hips but have failed so I’ve given up. I’m so fed up!

Any other night owls up?

LittleJumpingBean · 27/10/2022 03:35

Had my baby early so I'm in recovery ward up with the little bundle of joy 🥰 last week or so (week 37) was not fun and im glad to not feel pregnant anymore! How far along are you?

CurlsnLipstick · 27/10/2022 04:03

Congratulations @LittleJumpingBean!! That's great news. Enjoy the little cuddles.💐💐

@CurlyNo2 night owl checking in. Just got back from peeing and struggling to find a proper sleeping position.

Read some of the previous posts and must say it's such a disgrace about the un-needed inductions. Especially for the convenience of hospital. I appreciate more people than beds could turn up but the process should be left naturally as much as possible. At this rate it may have epigenetic effects affecting us and future generations.

greenerfingers · 27/10/2022 05:41

Another one gone to pee and now struggling to find a position. My mattress is most definitely way too soft for pregnancy! It's too soft in general I feel. A shame as it was so pricey and I've not had it all that long.

@roobearbaby I read up and avoided high VOC paints (usually oil based paints such as skirting boards etc), and painted my littles ones nursery at 34 weeks. I kept everything ventilated and then went to stay at my parents for a few days while the smell cleared out too. All was well and LO mocked me by refusing to sleep a single night in there 😂😂. Currently sleeping in a cotbed next to me.

Also agree about inductions providing more ease for hospitals, I know friends who've been offered sweeps and inductions before their due dates with no medical reason, no discomfort on the part of the mother and are usually at very busy hospitals. Before, inductions were medically necessary or given to women hitting 41/42 weeks. The rise in interventions in the last few decades worries me slightly.

Also 35 weeks @rickandmorts and although it still feels an age I finally see the end in sight. Praying for a healthy term baby who comes by 38 weeks (ha! Here's to wishful thinking). Also feels horrible being at the end of the month on the due date list 😂

Congratulations @LittleJumpingBean! Did your labour start naturally or were you booked in? Enjoy your new babe, can't wait to meet mine 🥰

mjb0616 · 27/10/2022 05:51

Congratulations @LittleJumpingBean ! That is lovely news 🥰 I hope you are getting lots of rest.

Just joining those of you that also can't sleep! I am being kept awake by mild cramping tonight/this morning but don't think it is anything starting (38 weeks tomorrow).

This is probably tmi (apologies) but is anyone having blood when they pass bowel movement? I had assumed haemorrhoids the last few weeks even though can't see anything, not sore and not constipated. But increasingly just bloody mucous passing Blush definitely from back passage and not show.

Hope everyone is doing okay

Somethingabitdifferent22 · 27/10/2022 07:51

I’m trying not to think too much into it… but I’ve got up this morning and my bump has almost disappeared! Baby has well and truly dropped…

this is my third so I’m wondering how far away labour could possibly be 😬🫣

curlywurly10 · 27/10/2022 08:42

how exciting @LittleJumpingBean congratulations!! 🥳🥳 hope you're both doing well!

TFMinx · 27/10/2022 09:06

Congratulations @LittleJumpingBean how lovely for you Flowers

NotAdultingToday · 27/10/2022 09:11

@Elle1709 you have a point. I will try and ring them today and see what they say

@CurlyNo2 i was up every couple of hours mixture of cold being uncomfortable and ds waking up shouting (nearly sent me into labour i jumped out of my skin!)

@LittleJumpingBean congratulations! How are you feeling! Second thread baby!

I have to go out soon but i will update the birth list later unless anyone else wants to 😊

Eryr22 · 27/10/2022 09:34

@LittleJumpingBean congratulations!! 🥺 hope all went well!

@mjb0616 hmm that sounds like haemorrhoids and constipation to me. I'd see about getting some Laxido.

I'm also part of the up all night club! My pelvis is so painful when I roll over. I've woken up feeling like I've run a marathon! I was going to decline the membrane sweep next week at 40 weeks, it felt a bit premature, but now I'm considering it!

Feb85 · 27/10/2022 09:53

@LittleJumpingBean Congratulations hope you and bubba are doing well x

rickandmorts · 27/10/2022 13:15

Congrats @LittleJumpingBean, how exciting!!!

And I know @greenerfingers, I'm really impatient and it kills me that I'm last on the list 🤣 although I'm the first to be due in our NCT group 🤞. I just hope to god I don't go into mid December because I'm getting a bit fed up now.

And yes to being up all night. Just seem to be wide awake at night and can't get comfy. I didn't go to bed til after 2am last night!

Beanniebaby22 · 27/10/2022 14:00

Congratulations @LittleJumpingBean 😊

OtiMama · 27/10/2022 14:15

Congratulations @LittleJumpingBean

@tb4122 such a small world. Yes I am! I actually made a friend from one of these threads in 2020 when she happened to live here too and had our sons at the same time!
The birthing Centre is having an open day this Sunday, 2-5pm where you can turn up and look around. Hadn't realised that it only has 2 rooms though, so I feel I will be lucky to get one when the time comes.

Saw the consultant yesterday, they are happy with baby's growth so no more weekly scans now, phew. They've booked me to have one at 39+4 weeks if baby isn't here. We shall see! She said I'm still low risk which is great.

Been to a farm with friends today, I am feeling so knackered now. Wish I could sleep. I've got my last day of work tomorrow, luckily not a full day, just finishing bits off.

tb4122 · 27/10/2022 15:20

@OtiMama small world indeed! I've just found the open afternoon info on the Facebook page so I'll pop along and have a look. I hadn't realised it was only two rooms either, but as I didn't know it was an option until yesterday I guess my heart is not too set on it. It does mean there are 4 potential pools available rather than just two so at least a bit more chance of that as I think I'd like to try it.

Had a growth scan today as was measuring as slowed growth at my midwife appointment yesterday. They said he weighs 7lb1oz already (36w5d)... I know growth scans are not very accurate but I sort of wish I didn't now have a size in mind. I'm now thinking that all the newborn suits I've packed in my hospital bag that are up to 7lbs are already too small and worrying that he might stay in there for the next 5 weeks growing to a scary size!
