Feb85 · 25/10/2022 09:32

Hope your doing ok @amyrose223 i am also been induced next week, looking forward to hearing of the arrival of your little one

amyrose223 · 25/10/2022 09:34

@Feb85 I'm doing good thank you! I'm just waiting for a bed to come available, they said this afternoon so just a waiting game now! Hope your induction goes well! X

CurlyNo2 · 25/10/2022 09:35

Oh how exciting that babies are coming soon!!

Im miserable today, the pain in my hips, joints, numb hands, painful shoulders are really getting me down. I don’t know if I can last another 4 weeks of this.

greenerfingers · 25/10/2022 09:49

Could you ask for an early sweep at 37 weeks @CurlyNo2 ? I know my consultant was offering my them real early last time but I just didn't want them. This time I'm counting the days to 37 and will see how I feel as I don't think I can do much longer either. But at the same time I don't want to rush baby till baby is ready. Between a rock and a hard place!

CurlyNo2 · 25/10/2022 11:07

Thanks @greenerfingers I think vaginal delivery is out the picture due to baby’s size and also the complications I had with my last birth. I’m meeting consultant on 4 Nov to go through plan again so she may bring section forward. I know what you mean about not wanting to rush baby out but it’s really hard when it’s making life miserable at the minute.

Bubblegum20 · 25/10/2022 11:07

@Kathno4 there was me thinking because my DD came at 37 weeks I'd only have a few days/ week at the most left seen as I've heard your second one comes quicker and I'm 36+2 now 😂 seems like I could still have quite a few weeks left

@amyrose223 good luck with your induction, hope it goes smoothly for you, not long now and you'll have your little one in your arms

@ALittleBitofVitriol how exciting that you've got your date, that'll soon fly round now!

@Feb85 good luck with your induction next week too, not long now and you'll be having newborn cuddles!

@greenerfingers I didn't realise you could have a sweep as early as 37 weeks, if I get offered one at my next midwife appt I might take it, I've heard they don't work unless your baby is ready, not sure how true that is though 🤷🏻‍♀️

greenerfingers · 25/10/2022 11:51

It depends on your trust @Bubblegum20 and whether you have complications or not. Some won't offer it but I know here they'd consider it if the mother is in a lot of pain and difficulty and baby seems ok.

greenerfingers · 25/10/2022 11:52

And yes I definitely think they're not very effective unless your body and cervix are ready.

Bubblegum20 · 25/10/2022 17:10

Has anyone been told they've got high blood pressure, I normally have low blood pressure always have done even pre pregnancy, so it was a bit of a surprise when today at my 36 week consultant appt today they said I had high blood pressure, I've also got to go for a growth scan tomorrow as well, as my bump is measuring smaller than it was 2 weeks ago, really wasn't expecting it today as I didn't have any of this last time! Hope everyone's doing well

Elle1709 · 25/10/2022 18:39

@Bubblegum20 I haven't had high blood pressure but had to go to the hospital today after routine midwife appointment as babies heart rate was high and my pulse high. Also had my waters checked. Everything was fine after the tests in the hospital, so still on track for elective c section. Hope your growth scan goes well.

Bubblegum20 · 25/10/2022 20:04

@Elle1709 bet that was worrying for you getting sent to the hospital, glad everything is well after checks from the hospital and your still on track for your section

greenerfingers · 25/10/2022 20:37

I'm getting such intense pressure and lightening crotch. Is anyone else in the same boat? I'm only 35 weeks and no idea what's happening.

sarahj878 · 25/10/2022 21:11

@greenerfingers yes I’m the same! Was told today baby is fully engaged!

CurlsnLipstick · 25/10/2022 23:00

@greenerfingers I do get lightening crotch several times a day. So painful. Not long now, last stretch.

@Bubblegum20 I hope it turns out to be nothing serious and baby is just baking. Try eliminate any stressors at stage. Easier said than done, I know.

@Elle1709 that's must've been such a relief. Hope everything goes well for the section.

Nothing eventful to report. Unless you count me missing MILs call today. She called back within the hour distressed thinking I'd had the baby. Yup, the end is in sight.

Eryr22 · 26/10/2022 07:40

Nothing too exiting going on here either! I’ve been offered a membrane sweep Tuesday when I’ll be 40 weeks. I was initially thinking of leaving it but I’ve become very uncomfortable the last couple of days and acid reflux is back with a vengeance! Hoping my cervix is ready for it because I’ve been having period pains for 3 weeks now!!

NotAdultingToday · 26/10/2022 09:18

So after a shit show of an appointment yesterday (left for 2 hours because i was marked as non attended even though i told them THREE times i was there as i had 2 appointments!) i got my date 14th Nov!
Im a bit sad as i was hoping for the 11th and a bit deflated because of all the stress yesterday so struggling to feel excited but im sure i will get over it and get excited soon!
To be fair the the anethatist, consultant and midwife i saw they were very good and helpful and friendly just the receptionist who looked at me blankly every time i spoke to her 🤦🏼‍♀️

I hope everyone is feeling better today! Its so hard at the moment isnt it!

@ALittleBitofVitriol thats exciting you have your date and plan its not long at all!

Did anyone have a 38 week midwife appointment? They mentioned it yesterday but i just wanted to get out of the hospital and said ill ring them but half tempted to leave it as ill be going in the week after. My blood pressure and checks have all been fine all the way through so not sure what to do (if they can even fit me in!)

OP posts:
ALittleBitofVitriol · 26/10/2022 11:20

Oh that is sooooo frustrating @NotAdultingToday! What a pain! I'm not surprised you want to skip the next one, I probably would too 😅 Yay for a date though!
Yes not long now I'm seriously counting down, and today he's been very sore so I'm really happy to see the end in sight...

Hitting 40 weeks is exciting @Eryr22! One way or another there's not long now!

😄 @CurlsnLipstick, you know you're at the end when the phone calls start!

Bramblecrumble22 · 26/10/2022 11:55

@NotAdultingToday I think I'm similar
They didn't mention the 38 week appointment at my 36 week scan. I'm 38+3. Just that I'll see them again in 3 weeks for a scan. I tried to get an appointment but they didn't have space, after being on hold with gp for ages. Said I could try calling the birth center and get an appointment there, which I did, wrote the date as Thursday the 28th. But that's not a date. So this week I called up, missed their call back but it was voicemail to say I don't have an appointment and to call my community midwife. (No longer have direct contact mobile number as she's recently gone on maternity leave and I've not met the new one.) Or the GP (likely half hour wait and there was only space on 31st 2 weeks ago. So I've decided to call the labour ward. If I have any concerns as that's what my consultant said. Otherwise try and relax and hope I go into labour.

I'm booked in for an induction at 40+1, Monday the 7th, which is less than 2 weeks. I didn't agree to it, said I wasn't sure it was nessesary. So we'll discuss again on Tuesday after my scan.

NotAdultingToday · 26/10/2022 12:26

Ahh that makes me feel better about not wanting to go. I really try to be patient because i work in a hospital and know what it is like but its so frustrating.
Ill see how i feel and if i get an weird symptoms ill call them.

Oh bless you @ALittleBitofVitriol, have you got everything ready to go?

@Bramblecrumble22 my friend is getting induced on 7th, we are sad as we were hoping wed be on the labour ward together (impossible to predict i know).
God its such a mission isnt it? It shouldnt be this hard!
Dont be pushed into anything you dont want though you know your body and how you feel

OP posts:
Beanniebaby22 · 26/10/2022 12:27

They seem to really push these inductions on people. Is it sometimes more for their own convenience than what’s best for mum/baby?

Elle1709 · 26/10/2022 12:59

@NotAdultingToday I've just had my 38+4 communuty midwife appointment. I'm glad I went as babies heartrate was high and my pulse was high so I needed to get extra checks at the hospital. Everything turned out fine once I had the additional checks, but I'm glad I got them anyway just to be safe x

Bramblecrumble22 · 26/10/2022 13:39

It's weird, every time I go for a scan the sonographer says growth has only dropped a bit, it's normal limits, or they only worry if it drops twice as much as it has etc. Then the consultants talk about it being an issue and possibly induction. I had read up a lot. But when I said I wasn't keen, she said give me one medical reason not to. And I kind of went blank. I feel like baby is safer in me than out and there's lots to dislike about induction. Also I'm think I'm a prime candidate for a physiological birth. I thought I'd try to get my 38 week midwife appointment so I could discuss and get a second opinion.

I don't see how induction is more convenient in hospitals because it can be a long process and I'd need to be admitted to a ward when I arrive in the afternoon. Increased inductions puts more strain on the system. I think it's a cultural risk management thing.

Domibeva · 26/10/2022 15:08

On the topic of inductions I had an interesting conversation with community midwife on this last week -( she’s a friend)

she told me that this time of year end of oct through November and into December is busiest time for delivering babies.. and they look at a chart of people due to have babies around specific dates and whether there high / low risk and 1st / 2nd babies etc…
and this is how they try to encourage some people to have sweeps / inductions because they believe at that time it will be quieter based on the people having babies which makes shifts more evened out they’re not likely to run out of beds and rooms.

they’ve actually closed our local hospital birthing suite for the next three weeks and told all community midwives who aren’t on call there shifts are at the local labour ward instead for the influx of babies due to arrive!

wibblewobbleball · 26/10/2022 15:16

@Domibeva Interesting! The peak time for deliveries in England is usually September and early October. Usually there's a bit of an annual leave flurry for staff around now because of half term holidays.

Somethingabitdifferent22 · 26/10/2022 15:26

@wibblewobbleball maybe it’s different in each district. I’m down in south wales.
