I've just found out I'm expecting my second baby the first week of June 2023 - anyone else? Early days, so being cautious, but can't help feeling excited!

What sort of exercise is everybody doing (if any!)? I’m used to 4/5 fairly intense workout classes per week but feel nervous!

I’ve been doing more walking and some low impact and easier stuff instead but even that makes me nervous!

WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay · 17/10/2022 11:04

Thanks @B1993

I am carrying on with my usual weekly yoga. I was wondering if I should tell the instructor, but have not yet. I am assuming I will switch to a specific maternity class at some point - probably after Christmas.
The NHS guidance says this:
Keep up your normal daily physical activity or exercise (sport, running, yoga, dancing, or even walking to the shops and back) for as long as you feel comfortable.
Exercise is not dangerous for your baby. There is some evidence that active women are less likely to experience problems in later pregnancy and labour.
So there is no advice that you should give up your intense workout classes, but you definitely don't need to feel nervous about the low impact stuff.

@FLA92 I do boot camp twice a week and I walk a lot daily too. I told the boot camp instructors at only 4 weeks, but that was mainly so they would go easy on me! I have been doing the same intensity if I am honest including lots of chest to floor burpees.... I will listen to my body and am sure I wont be doing that in the 2nd trimester.

Tinkerbell098 · 17/10/2022 11:13

@B1993 I'll see how the next couple of days go as hoping yesterday was just a one-off. I am so anxious as it's my first!

Rose785 · 17/10/2022 11:15

I also have read that exercise does not cause miscarriage the only reason they tell you to go easy is because your body is more prone to injury due to your ligaments becoming more supple.

Just a little update from me. I am 7+1 today. I have just spent well over an hour on the phone being transferred from one extension to another. Finally being placed on hold for 35 minutes and just now got a booking appointment via phone for this Friday. 😫 what a nightmare. I feel like it was much more efficient last pregnancy I certainly had booking appointment by 6 weeks. But that was 4 years ago and I know Covid has changed things. Back then I’m sure she even came to my house and had a cup of tea. No such pleasantries today. At least I’ve got the booking appointment now, but I’m seriously considering booking a private scan. Who knows how long it will take them to get me in for a booking scan I heard it can be anytime up to 14 weeks along. ☹️

Tawny2022 · 17/10/2022 11:57

@CaliGirl47 i am also 7+1 and I booked an early private scan last week for the end of this week. Are you taking about the 12 week nhs scan or the private one?

FLA92 · 17/10/2022 12:49

Oh really! Ok I’ve been avoiding things like burpees and jumping exercises, I might keep going then and just adjust if I feel any twinges etc. Did your boot camp instructors say to adjust any of the exercises?

Rose785 · 17/10/2022 13:10

@FLA92 No they said first trimester you should carry on exercising as normal! I was surprised too! They just said do what feels right, so far not had any issues exercising just as hard as I do. I really enjoy it and it makes me feel well.

@CaliGirl47 I have had no issues with the NHS, I self referred myself as per my Doctors instructions and two days later got a text from my midwife asking a list of questions then 3 days after that I already got my 12 week scan letter confirmed, which I was shocked about as am only 5W 2D today so they seemed to be getting it all booked in quick.

I have not heard when I will have bloods done.

thedust · 17/10/2022 13:13

@B1993 I think the age gap will be quite nice, I have 4 years between me and my sister. I'm glad baby will arrive before DD starts school but it will be a funny year because we'll also be moving into temporary rented accommodation while our house is renovated! Hope it's not too much upheaval for her. We probably would have started trying sooner but I changed jobs earlier this year and wanted to wait until I qualified for the occupational maternity pay. Sorry to hear about your loss 💐

CaliGirl47 · 17/10/2022 13:38

Sorry @Tawny2022 I should’ve been clearer in my ranting 😂 basically I’m not holding my breath for the NHS scan because my local hospital trust seems very disorganised so far.it’s very frustrating. So I’m thinking of booking a private scan.

It sounds like we will all have a similar age gap. 🤗 @B1993 @thedust My DD was born May 2019. I was getting quite anxious about the age gap getting too big but it’s one of those things that you can’t always control. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I agree though it will be nice to have some transition time with a new sibling before she starts reception.

FLA92 · 17/10/2022 13:43

@Rose785 perfect!

Ah that's rubbish. I filled in my self referral last Wednesday. It said it could take up to 14 days for them to be in touch, and I wasn't expecting my appointments for a while as I am only 4+3 but they called today and I have a phone appointment this Thursday. Makes it all seem a bit more real now.

mimi2538 · 17/10/2022 14:35

Well I went and spoke to the pharmacist and came back with cough drops 😭 she did also say honey in a hot drink so bought some caffeine free teas and some honey to try. The drop did work better than I expected and I did manage to have a nap without being interrupted by coughing but I feel like I should've bought a few more packs to keep me going 😂

Ally1992 · 17/10/2022 15:12

The fatigue has hit hard today, I just want to fall asleep at my desk 😩

tigerlily0 · 17/10/2022 15:16

I feel like I'm really chilled out (too chilled out??) I'm 7+3 and my booking in appt is next week at 8+4 - isn't that normal? I'm sure with my last 2 it was the same. Tbf I think I only got an appt because I'm normally consultant led due to thyroid issues, so that is concerning me a bit. But I think once im booked in they should be able to send me to the endocrinologist clinic pretty soon. But my scan was defo around the 12 week and then next comm MW APPT is at 16 week

Rose785 · 17/10/2022 15:19

@tigerlily0 please can you send some of your chilled vibes my way 😂

Mayfield87 · 17/10/2022 15:28

Hi @tigerlily0 just wanted to jump on and say I also have thyroid issues- hyperthyroidism. On meds and having bloods every 4 weeks. I just need to tell the midwife at my booking appointment about it all. I'm only 4+4 at the moment so early days- second baby but this will be my first pregnancy with thyroid issues.
Is this your second pregnancy also?

FLA92 · 17/10/2022 15:33

I have another question (can you tell I’m anxious 😂)…

Has everyone continued sex life as normal? I had quite bad cramping for about 5-10 mins afterwards a couple of days ago, and am now scared to do it again!

tigerlily0 · 17/10/2022 15:53

@Rose785 haha I do get bit anxious on the days i DONT have bad nausea cos I think what's wrong.

@Mayfield87 this is my third pregnancy. My hypothyroid issues happened literally as I got preg with my first. I found my own consultant and made my own appt thru the secretary because my GP was so bad. I'm pretty controlled on tabs atm so that's why I'm not stressing too much about it, I tend to have a lot of growth scans esp near the end of preg.

CaliGirl47 · 17/10/2022 15:53

I’m really glad you had a better experience than me. @Rose785 @Piggieinthemiddle 😁👍🏼

haha I could do with some more chill vibes for sure @tigerlily0 😆 I don’t mind getting a letter through the post saying my appointment is in 2 weeks time or 3 weeks, whatever. It’s the fact I wasn’t getting anything through the post at all. I got the impression that something must’ve gone wrong. I think my details must’ve completely fell through the cracks. It took them ages to even find me in the system.

Rose785 · 17/10/2022 15:55

@tigerlily0 when did you begin to feel sick? I am 5w and 2d but still feel nothing! Boobs hurt and add cramp that's it. I hope it's not a bad sign

Blossomhoney · 17/10/2022 16:00

Hi ladies I’ve not been on here for w couple of weeks hope everyone is well.
I ended up in a&e twice in agony with rib and chest pain, basically I’ve had a cough for 4-5 weeks and I was coughing really hard and my rib made a very loud crack!
damaged a rib and also pulled a muscle in my chest so I’m slowly getting better, things are so much better than they were.
pregnancy wise wow the sickness ans nausea is seriously kicking me 😩 I’m even waking up in the night to be sick.
So many smells are affecting me and I feel exhausted.
currently 7 weeks, have had to tell my boss but other than that haven’t told anybody yet.
With my other pregnancies I told everyone straight away but this time it’s been kind of a secret I’m not ready to share yet.

tigerlily0 · 17/10/2022 16:07

@CaliGirl47 yea the first trimester is weird- ure just left to ur own devices !

@Rose785 so as soon as week 6 hit that's when the nausea hit. I stopped the pregnacare cos I'm 99%sure they were making it worse- so taking simpler vitamins now. My last 2 pregnancies I was sick week 6 (boy) and week 4 with my girl (we were in santorini and the heat and smells might have made it worse)

@Blossomhoney blimey u have been thru it! Hope ure ok the mend. My sickness is on and off, it was so much worse with my other 2. Thought it was worse when I was having a girl. But I can't figure this out, I used to take pregnacare daily back then tho- maybe it was that. And yes I'm not telling anyone soon either, might have to tell me manager soon because of the waves of nausea and tiredness and my thyroid appts.
