I've just found out I'm expecting my second baby the first week of June 2023 - anyone else? Early days, so being cautious, but can't help feeling excited!

@B1993 that's just that particular kind of vaccine, I got a different one because I said I was pregnant. It did say they've done extensive studies on second and third trimester but less on first (but they'd done enough to know no increased risk of MC) but I decided to do it now anyway as winter is coming up and I'll be doing some travel. Worth chatting to the midwife/pharmacist if you're not sure though.

CaliGirl47 · 15/10/2022 15:52

Interesting. I haven’t read that article. And unfortunately the link seemed to be broken when I tried it. @B1993 I have had my 3 doses, with my 3rd being December of last year so I’m not sure how much immunity is left from that. I did contract Covid this past Jul but it was a mild case for me personally. I don’t like the idea of catching it again whilst pregnant. I would potentially be open to another dose but maybe towards the third trimester when more antibodies would be passed to baby in preparation for the outside world. But I’ll have to give it some thought and ask a midwife whenever I get around to actually seeing one 😆

I know in my last pregnancy I had a lot of anxiety around the flu vaccine and whooping cough. But I ended up choosing to get them and it all worked out fine.

Greymalkin12 · 15/10/2022 16:08

Are other people feeling exhausted? I'm 8 weeks and have spent most of the day on the sofa, sitting down or in bed. Work is exhausting (I only work 3.5 days but under resourced and seem to have a full time job worth of work) and have a 4 year old. Luckily husband is supportive. It's not a big thing in the great scheme of things but will be glad when it clears!

thosethreewords · 15/10/2022 16:08

@B1993 my best friend is a public health consultant and I trust her implicitly. I will be getting my flu and covid boosters. (I am also a doctor; seen some horrible covid complications)

@Rosie2023 I'm so sorry. I had a similar experience in August. I hope you take the time you need to heal ❤️

@Tinkerbell098 I freaked myself out by doing a CB digital the other day and it said 1-2 weeks when I thought it should be more than that, but my FRER yesterday was very, very dark so don't know how accurate they are. Did you use FMU?

B1993 · 15/10/2022 16:09

@Tinkerbell098There’s been quite a lot of discussion on here recently about the CB tests. I personally got my 3+ at 5+2 but know in some healthy pregnancies, women don’t get them until beyond 6 or 7 weeks. The range of normal HCG levels is quite significant and it’s interesting to see the how normal levels line up with the CB weeks. I’ve posted these charts for comparison before but if you haven’t seen them, hopefully it’ll ease your mind a bit. Also, diluted urine can impact results.

@CaliGirl47Here is the link again: www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-pfizer-biontech-vaccine-for-covid-19/summary-public-assessment-report-for-pfizerbiontech-covid-19-vaccine
Hopefully that works!

@Confused31 Thanks for the reassurance. I’ve followed the booking link but it doesn’t say which dose I’d be given. I work in a primary school so it would probably be best to have it before flu season hits if I do get it, but as others have said, there’s a lot to think about given that it’s best to be protected in later pregnancy.

It’ll definitely be a discussion I have with the midwife!

@NalaNana that's interesting okay. Yes baby was immediately visible with a clear heartbeat so I think my dates of 6+2 sound more realistic. Come to think of it with my older child I had an early scan at 6+3 and heartbeat was fainter than this one.

@Rosie2023 so sorry to hear this 💕

@B1993 I won't be having my covid vaccine until mid 2nd trimester at the earliest, but that's mainly because I want to retain most of the benefits for my 3rd trimester, and it doesn't seem to last very long.

Had my private scan today and measuring 1 day ahead at 7+3 - so technically a May due date now but if I make it to the NHS dating scan we’ll see😅 As soon as she put the probe(?) on I could almost immediately see how much bigger the baby was it was amazing! I can’t believe that big blob has grown so much from my six week scan, surviving on plain Pringles and bread. The first scan is a 6 week abdominal so you can barely see anything.
No more scans for a while now

CaliGirl47 · 15/10/2022 17:56

Wow those scan pics are amazing! @Veryxonfused 😍 So lovely to see that much growth and progression. So pleased for you. 🤗

Fredthespider · 15/10/2022 17:57

@Veryxonfused yay for a great scan! And plain Pringles sound amazing right now, I’ve gone for ritz biscuits but they’re feeling a little greasy tbh

Rose785 · 15/10/2022 18:32

@Veryxonfused congrats on the scan! Looks amazing thanks for sharing 😊could you see the heart beating at this stage? Just wondering if to do a scan earlier at 7 weeks or try and hold out to 8! I am only 5 weeks today so feels like so long away! I got my nhs 12 week scan confirmed today for the 28th November. I am so excited!

Tinkerbell098 · 15/10/2022 18:54

@B1993 thanks for that ❤️ All hope isn’t lost yet. It’s also because on top of that, I’ve had no symptoms so far so a little worried that nothings happening. It’s an ivf cycle so dates are pretty accurate. Oh well! I’ll just have to wait it out until the scan in 2.5 weeks. It is going to draaag!!

B1993 · 15/10/2022 19:08

@thosethreewords Thank you, it’s reassuring to know that.

@Veryxonfused Your scan picture makes me want another one haha! 🤣🙈The difference is incredible! 🤩

@Tinkerbell098 Early pregnancy drags so much! Hopefully the scan will come around quickly and will bring some reassuring news! 🤞🏻💗

DrinkingAllTheGin · 15/10/2022 19:19

Couldn't face cooking tonight so had a cup noodle followed by a fruit smoothie (thanks for the inspiration PP)
Nausea kicking my ass today.

Okapi99 · 15/10/2022 19:20

I have another private scan tomorrow. I think I'm about 7 weeks now 🤞

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 15/10/2022 19:30

Lovely to see all scan photos! I'm still debating having an early scan.

Ear infection a bit better today and toothache easing. I'm tired more but no nausea still. Hardly any appetite on an evening. 6 weeks+1.

Mannymoomin · 15/10/2022 19:49

So going by my dates I’m 6 weeks with an EDD of June 10th.
Ive not booked in for midwife yet, it’s been 12 years since I was last pregnant, do I just tell docs I’m pregnant and ask them to do a blood test to confirm or book straight in with midwife?

I don’t know if I’ll book a private scan, sickness hasn’t started yet so it still doesn’t feel real.
All my pregnancies I’ve had awful awful sickness and that’s the part I’m dreading more than anything, I’ve always ended up in hospital on a drip due to dehydration because the morning sickness was so bad, so I’m really really dreading the day I wake up throwing up, which I know is going to be soon

Mannymoomin · 15/10/2022 19:52

I’m also going to have to get loads of books and read up again on what to do and not what to do.
My eldest is nearly 17, and in them days it was a case of making up the next days feeds the night before and storing them in the fridge, and newborns could stay in a car seat for as long as needed, how times and advice has changed!

Okapi99 · 15/10/2022 20:01

Ask your gp to prescribe antisickness medication z and start it before you get nausea. I've been taking it for almost 2 weeks now and whilst I do have some nausea, it's no where near as bad as with mynothers

mimi2538 · 15/10/2022 20:18

I'm 7 weeks exactly today and have experienced my first proper lot of throwing up and I forgot how much I hate being sick 😩 I know everyone does but it just makes my tummy hurt so much and I'm so loud. I made the mistake of not taking my anti nausea medication from the dr as I was rationing it until my prescription is filled. Big mistake 🤢 I was taking metoclamoride before pregnancy anyway due to chronic illness and highly recommend it if you don't get on with cyclizine!
Finally was able to call up the midwife yesterday and got my booking appointment sorted for next week and then bloods a few days later. Feels so real now 😬

tigerlily0 · 15/10/2022 21:17

I'm 7+1 and the nausea and tiredness is awful. But I'm trying to be kind to myself and just stop and lay down when I need to- bit hard with working and running a household and 2 kids. But luckily hubby is so supportive, he's been panelling the living room the last 2 days and iv barely helped, feel out of sorts. I make dinner nearly every night and have to really pep myself up for it and try not to be sick. Been wearing trackies and T-shirts literally for the last 2 weeks, not worn any makeup, cba doing my hair, and don't wanna see anyone. Going to my mums tmrw with my siblings there, gna have to act like I ain't about to throw up every 10 min. That's gna be fun.

tigerlily0 · 15/10/2022 21:20

@Mannymoomin my kids are 8 and 6. I feel so out of practice ! U need to tell your community midwives you're pregnant and they will give you date where they will 'register' your pregnancy and blood work and also book ur 12 week scan

First trimester is weird, because u feel awful with nausea and tiredness and this tiny little being is inside you, but u don't tell anyone, and ure left to just get on with it until 12 weeks when baby is looking more like a baby.

Confused31 · 15/10/2022 21:20

I'm going on holiday at 6+6 for 2 weeks and DREADING feeling sick (currently 5+1 and feel tired and bloated but fine). And tips on handling nausea while traveling?

Confused31 · 16/10/2022 08:11

Can I ask a dumb question? Is week 6 of pregnancy 5+x etc. (As 0+x would be in week 1) or is week 6 when you're 6+x?

Rose785 · 16/10/2022 08:12

Is anyone going to get maternity clothes? Or those of you who have kids did you think it's worth buying mat clothes?. My partner was asking what I want for xmas and thought mat clothes might be a nice idea as by then I will be 16 weeks so assume a bump will be there and will only get bigger. He was originally going to get me some levi jeans but think that have to now wait until next xmas!

B1993 · 16/10/2022 08:41

@Okapi99 Good luck with todays scan!

@BellaTheDarkOverlord I'm pleased to read you're feeling a bit better! I can definitely relate the the exhaustion 🥱

My nausea is still very mild... in fact, if anything, it's been slightly better in recent days 😬

@Mannymoomin I used 'my pregnancy notes' to register my pregnancy. I got an appointment within days of registering.

@Confused31, your 6th week would be 6+0,1,2 etc. There's loads of pregnancy apps which keep track of your weeks for you. I've been using the 'what to expect' app. It tells you how far along you are and how big baby is compared to food etc. This week (week 6) baby is as big as a sweet pea. 🥰 It's got useful articles too.

@Rose785 I actually got my maternity box down back in august before I miscarried 🙈 More out of convince than anything as we were up in the loft for something else. I haven't been using it yet but the jeans are definitely tempting with my HUGE bloat bump! 🤣 Luckily my pregnancies are in a similar season (first was born in july) so I've got plenty already and won't be buying anymore. I wouldn't spend a lot on the bits as you really don't get much wear out of them (with the exception of pregnancy to breastfeeding wear) in my experience. Places like New Look, ASOS, H&M, Boohoo and George at Asda all have pretty decent ranges at good prices.
