@DBS94 ahh bet that felt amazing to see, so reassuring!!

Im back at work tomorrow after a couple of weeks off, the fatigue is going to gettttt me!

PuddingBear · 04/09/2022 20:54

When are you guys telling your employers you’re pregnant?

I think I’m 7 weeks pregnant now and last time I told them at about 10/11 weeks as it was during covid and we were due to return to work after furlough.

I am unsure whether to wait until the scan or tell them now. I manage a restaurant so it’s fast paced, sometimes stressful work with unsociable shift patterns but they were brilliant with me last time so no concerns there.

MamaMenna · 04/09/2022 21:14

@Skylark1990 @Margo34 I'm also still feeding my toddler, who relies on it to fall asleep and shows 0 signs of wanting to wean. I will be night weaning and then take it from there, but it's haaard, I feel emotional about it 😢 She's also starting nursery so I'm going to wait a bit so it's not major changes all at once. I just don't think I'm up for tandem nursing, I have no idea when she would eventually wean if I did that.
Regarding the lump in the boob, definitely mention it to gp if it's going to play on your mind, much better to be reassured than worry. If you've had it checked before it's likely all fine, but much better not to worry. I'm the same and worry a lot about things like that.

Congrats to those who have had scans and seen heartbeats, lovely to hear about.

Margo34 · 04/09/2022 21:17

@PuddingBear I'm 7+5 based on LMP. Ideally I'd wait until 12w scan but in reality and with my sensible hat on I'm going to have my MW booking appt next week then probably tell them then. I work in a school in EYFS/Reception so will need a risk assessment for things like slapped cheek and chicken pox etc etc. But I'll ask my Head to keep it P&C until I've had my scan when I'll hopefully be ready to tell wider staff/colleagues. Head knows I have had MCs this year and was so supportive so I think they will respect it!

Margo34 · 04/09/2022 21:22

@MamaMenna @Skylark1990 my DC decided not to nap today AT ALL and I do wonder if it is partly because my supply has taken a massive dip (usually feeds to sleep). Nursing lately is like shards of glass from my nips and I have stopped feeling let downs. Toddler even asked for water mid-feed attempt earlier too 😔 and then said "it's broken, kiss it better?" I couldn't hand express a drop 😭

simplythequest · 04/09/2022 21:23

@PuddingBear I've already told my employer and I've just gone 8 weeks. I've found the last week really rough and, as a teacher, I get back to work properly from tomorrow and I'm worried about coping. My head was great about it, won't tell anyone else until I'm ready and is already looking out for me health-wise. She knows about my mc earlier this year, so I know she'll be looking out for me 😊

Leanne053 · 04/09/2022 21:40

If I ring the GP tomorrow do they prescribe antiemetic for nausea alone or do you have to be vomiting too? I am going away to Dublin for a couple of nights next weekend and I really don't want it to be ruined with how I've felt the past 4 days so was planning on ringing tomorrow but don't want to waste mine and their time.
Also I messaged my midwife today about diazepam, I usually take 5mg when flying (which I'll be doing to Dublin) but she has said not safe to take in pregnancy, anybody know if any safer but similar drugs? 😊

OttilieKnackered · 04/09/2022 21:55

@Leanne053 ive had anti emetics prescribed for nausea only. Unfortunately, I’ve not found them massively effective and the GP did point out they’re designed to stop sickness primarily, rather than nausea.

Leanne053 · 04/09/2022 22:01

@OttilieKnackered hmm wonder if it's worth it then I don't want to come across as little Miss OTT Dramatic 😂

AliceinSlumberland · 04/09/2022 22:39

@PuddingBear timely question for me as I’ve just been wondering the same thing. I’m wondering about telling them soon now that I’ve had a scan as all tbe schools I work in will have to be reassigned and that’s a bit of a big job that needs forward planning. I think I’ll go with the flow and if I see my manager I’ll see if I can grab 5 mins with him.

PuddingBear · 04/09/2022 22:47

@Margo34 @simplythequest @AliceinSlumberland Thanks guys! Lots of teachers here 😅

I am also still nursing my toddler but I have no plans to wean her. I’m hoping she will continue to nurse throughout so I can tandem feed when baby is here.

Missgemini · 04/09/2022 23:52

@LauraA31 I am also VERY irritated by everything my DH does these days. We went to a wedding today. By the evening, people could tell I was visibly annoyed. Oh dear. It’s so annoying because I also know I’m being irrational, but I am so annoyed! Haha

Missgemini · 04/09/2022 23:54

@LauraA31 Also feeling waves of nausea and absolutely shattered! I’m already tired of the first trimester!
Oh and thanks to the bloat, people guessed I was pregnant today. I didn’t have the energy to lie, so just said yes.

MamaMenna · 05/09/2022 06:15

@PuddingBear ex teacher here 😅

MamaMenna · 05/09/2022 06:30

I'm also feeling super bloated, I don't think I show to others yet, but I can tell.

Longbin · 05/09/2022 08:19

DH also annoying me too. He keeps developing mystery illnesses and is more tired than anyone else could ever be. Winding me up so much now

AliceinSlumberland · 05/09/2022 08:30

@PuddingBear ex teacher too, I’m an educational psychologist now which is the best job ever, love it.

Im going to a wedding at the weekend and just tried my dress on this morning as was really worried it wouldn’t fit anymore especially round the boobs, I’m definitely not showing or anything but I just feel massive and chunky.

Skylark1990 · 05/09/2022 09:42

@Margo34 aww sounds similar to my DD - one night about a week or so ago she was sipping water on between latching on and feeding - clearly no milk coming or very little! I also stopped feeling the let down a few weeks ago, am 8+5/9 weeks today (not sure whether to go off my scan date now or my original date?? Hmm). I think dry nursing is much more painful so explains why your nips are so sore. I guess just see how you go, but try not to feel guilty if you feel you need to stop - its emotional 😭 I know, so hard and a big change. @MamaMenna how old is your little one? Mine is 2 this month so I'm close to my breastfeeding goal of 2! She didn't have a feed at bedtime last night - we switched it up and she just came straight into bed with me in our room instead of going in her room first, and I think because we weren't in her usual environment for a feed it actually helped as she didn't even ask for milk just snuggled up next to me and went to sleep 🫣 I was quite surprised! I fed her for her nap yesterday which she was happy about but I actually think she's starting to accept it's coming to an end ... So many mixed feelings! Will see how things go this evening. I also don't want to tandem, although I have a lot of respect for those that do, I originally thought I might want to but have decided no now. @PuddingBear amazing that you are hoping to tandem! I have a friend who fed all through pregnancy and just gave birth and she's now tandem feeding 🥰🥰

Skylark1990 · 05/09/2022 09:48

Congrats on your scan @DBS94 you must be so relieved! Sounds like we are similarly far along 🥰

For those with diff scan dates, will you go off scan date now? Mine was only 2 days ahead so based on scan I'm 9 weeks today but I feel so sure I know when I ovulated so can't seem to shake off the previous date 😂 although it's nice to be 2 days ahead!

I've been feeling so so rough the last few days, the nausea and sickness is getting me down and I feel so gross, stiff and like I'm all inflated everywhere/ bloated. The 1st tri is just the worst I am so so looking forward to coming out of this funk 🤞🤞 also ATM feeling glad this is hopefully my last pregnancy (if all goes well ❤️) as we will probably only have 2. I just don't know if I could do this again!

My manager is the kind of person who just soldiers through illness so I don't feel loads of support if I need to take more time off due to feeling sick. I won't go into detail but she's also had kids and all 3 of her pregnancies sounds like she worked through horrendous sickness and other issues. So it makes me feel awkward. I don't feel it's bad enough for meds but it's still bloody awful. Would love to take the next month off 😥🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

@AliceinSlumberland educational psychologist sounds like a brill job!

DBS94 · 05/09/2022 10:14

@Skylark1990 thank you ❤️ I was thinking the same re scan date, that would put me at 8 weeks 5 days. My first NHS scan isn't until beginning of October which I'd be about 13 weeks for, so I think I'm going to book another private scan for 11 weeks and then go off the date from that as that's probably more accurate? We have a big family dinner at the end of September so want to tell family then. Spoke to the sonographer yesterday who said "first NHS scan" is anything from 11-14 weeks so if I go in at 11 weeks any abnormalities would be picked up. Then I've only a wee while to wait before seeing bubba again for my NHS one x

Brunette1652 · 05/09/2022 11:58

@Leanne053 there is nothing similar to diazepam at all that you could take for flying when pregnant, are you flying from England to Dublin? They really dislike to give most medications to pregnant woman has they haven’t been tested,

Tropicana1 · 05/09/2022 13:25

@Skylark1990 although you know your ovulation date the gestational age of the foetus will be different depending on if you were to implant at say 7 Vs 10 DPO etc so that's why scan may be more accurate, although I'd probably wait for the 12 week dating and go off of that one

Work wise I told them pretty much straight away as I have a lot of workplace hazards that I need to avoid (Vet) and ended up needing to tell a few colleagues last week as a situation arose with some anaesthetic gas that meant I couldn't do my planned procedure and needed someone to swap with me

Emeal123 · 05/09/2022 13:43

At the minute I’m going off the date they gave me at my repeat private scan on Saturday (now 8+4), but if they change it slightly at 12 weeks scan that’s the date I’ll go with.

I haven’t told work yet as I’m an agency worker so a bit worried about what will happen however equally do need to tell them as I am a frontline child protection social worker so am constantly walking into unknown/risky situations so will need a risk assessment too. I plan to tell them after 12 week scan though and just being really careful beforehand.

Have seen people mention being annoying with their OH, I’m the same! Mine was hungover yesterday and it annoyed me soooooo much!!

Chocolat · 05/09/2022 13:46

Hi all I’m 9+6 today, first pregnancy (feel like I’m the oldest in this thread 😅).
Getting slightly paranoid as as soon as I hit 12 weeks my nausea settled. Still feeling a bit tired and sore boobs.
Also decided not to get an early scan as my NHS one is in 2 weeks.
Just reading and getting paranoid about a missed miscarriage now
