@AliceinSlumberland i think that’s what I’ll do, would like to wait until after my 12 week nhs scan to tell most people.

oh gosh we are going to take a hit money wise too, looking at cutting costs in every way we can

alwaysseeingstars · 01/09/2022 11:21

@AliceinSlumberland we're in the same situation, it's terrifying isn't it? I'm the higher earner and we just can't see how it's going to work out currently. How long do you think you'll take off?
@Emeal123 I would do as Alice suggested, let her enjoy her moment of surprising you all and then speak to her in a few weeks, she should understand your position completely!

Missgemini · 01/09/2022 11:22

@AliceinSlumberland I’ve been doing the maths, taking into account the rising interest rates and the effect it’ll likely have on our new house next year. I’ve sat DH down and explained we need to stop wasting money.
I was also invited to what I know will likely be an amazing week long wedding in India. I’ve had to tell the bride that I’m pregnant already. Was honest and said we simply could not afford to go abroad whilst saving for mat leave.

I don’t want to moan too much about mat pay knowing how rubbish it is in the US and other places, but I wish we had more support in that first year.

Gilm0reGirl · 01/09/2022 11:25

Thanks @DBS94 and @AliceinSlumberland
I'm so happy right now!

Ah yes we've started looking at budgets, I'm a SAHM anyway so we won't really lose money but with the cost of living going up we are definitely making sure we won't suddenly get a huge bill we can't pay along with a newborn. Husband has his fingers crossed for another girl as all of our DD clothes would fit and they are the right seasons too due to them both being April. I've told him it's a boy, purely because we have all those beautiful practically new clothes packed away neatly. A boy can wear pink ted baker onesies right? Match head band optional 😂

Skylark1990 · 01/09/2022 11:28

Hey everyone, haven't caught up completely but just wanted to share I had my scan this morning and everything is good, measuring 8+3 with a nice strong heartbeat 💓 here's our little kidney bean! Haha can barely make out the baby but it's there ❤️😌

@Wouldloveanother glad you're feeling a bit better, hope that continues and excited for your scan on Tues! Not long to go x

@Skylark1990 congratulations! Excellent scan love a good heart beat 🥳

Wouldloveanother · 01/09/2022 11:40

Congrats Skylark! Great news 💜

AliceinSlumberland · 01/09/2022 11:49

Ahhhh @Skylark1990 absolutely amazing, how absolutely fabulous!

@alwaysseeingstars I’d like to take a year but not exactly sure how that would be possible when I look at how my pay would be non existent after Christmas. Need to get some serious saving done in the next few weeks.

@Missgemini yesssss stop wasting money is exactly what I’ve said. Not that I throw it away, but we’ll eat out etc without thinking about it really so need to rain that in.

SavedByGraceAlone · 01/09/2022 11:49

Congratulations @Skylark1990!!! Excellent news, very happy for you!

Heath2330 · 01/09/2022 11:58

Congratulations @Skylark1990

Hope all goes well for those having scans today x

Wisher88 · 01/09/2022 12:00

@Matildahoney that's fair enough for some workplaces. I'll be given the time off for appointments, but as I work in mental health in the NHS I need to give my patients as much notice as possible and we get booked in 4 weeks in advance! Even if a patient has an appointment cancelled for staff sickness they really kick off so want to avoid that as much as possible! I can try to time it with a boring meeting 😂.

AliceinSlumberland · 01/09/2022 12:24

I feel your pain @Matildahoney , I book in appointments to see children at schools and my god it’s hard work trying to cancel one. My schools are going to be unhappy enough when I go off in April 😂

Emeal123 · 01/09/2022 12:51

Congratulations @Skylark1990 how exciting! Xx

Matildahoney · 01/09/2022 12:57

@Wisher88 that's fair enough and understandable that you want to do that. Thankfully I'm only in accounts so nothing majorly important!!

LauraA31 · 01/09/2022 13:06

This might sound daft but ive never had a scan before, im due my EPU scan in two hours but going to be setting off to do some bits in half hour before we go for the scan…. Do I need a full bladder? The midwife was lovely last night but in a rush and didn’t say anything, just been for my 50th wee of the day and thought oh crap how long do I need to hold for!

Heath2330 · 01/09/2022 13:17

@LauraA31 I don't know if it's different so early on and been a long time since I had a scan but it was always drink plenty of water and hold for an hour before which is virtually impossible for any pregnant woman 🙈

Heath2330 · 01/09/2022 13:19

@LauraA31 It is important that you attend with a FULL BLADDER as this can affect clarity of images.

This is what they have sent for my private scan next Tuesday so I would say yea you need a full bladder if possible x

Skylark1990 · 01/09/2022 13:25

Thank you all! Definitely feels like a big relief, although don't feel out of the woods yet as still early. So nice to see little bean tho! It's just magical what's going on in there with us none the wiser most of the time! 💓💓💓

@LauraA31 how many weeks are you? If it's early on they will do an internal scan so you shouldn't have a full bladder for that. What they've done for me every time at the epau is try to scan the tummy first, and as it's been early they have then asked me to empty my bladder then they do an internal. Today I had a full bladder and she said it actually impeded the image from my stomach! Weird. But we saw loads with the internal scan. This is nothing to worry about btw, it's a probe inserted into your vagina but it only goes in about an inch, and you can barely feel it .
Just drink half a litre and hold for 30 mins before the scan and you should be fine. Then you can empty if need be while there. X

Wisher88 · 01/09/2022 13:26

@LauraA31 you only need a full bladder if the scan is directly on your stomach. Early scans are usually through your lady passage as it gives a better picture 😆

Wouldloveanother · 01/09/2022 13:27

@Skylark1990 Tommy’s says: seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks increased the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks that went up to 99.4% so although early the stats are very, very good 💜

Tropicana1 · 01/09/2022 13:39

Is anyone else finding they're more sick when they eat not less? I keep seeing lots of you saying that snacking is helping keep the nausea at bay but the last 2 days since my nausea started every time I eat I feel 10x worse and then vomit it straight back up within around 10-30 minutes. Feel much better once I've been sick but I'm just not doing well with food at all

Skylark1990 · 01/09/2022 14:10

@Wouldloveanother thank you! Those stats are definitely reassuring 💓

@Tropicana1 I've found both at diff times. Eating sometimes helps and sometimes makes me feel worse. Horrible isn't it!!

alwaysseeingstars · 01/09/2022 14:29

eek, very envious of all of you getting early scans! DH wants to wait, I agreed as I didn't want the scan to make me feel more anxious (I have mild OCD so thought once I've had one, I'll want one all the time) - now I want one 😂
@Skylark1990 how exciting, congrats! bet that was a lovely feeling 😍
@Tropicana1 sorry you're struggling so much, hope it doesn't last too long. I recall a friend of mine whilst pregnant couldn't keep much down (even drinks) so filled ice cube trays with squash or juice instead of water - kept on them all day every day! may be worth a try?

DBS94 · 01/09/2022 14:35

@Skylark1990 was your 8+3 week one internal? I have 8 week scan on Sunday and never even considered this, I'm going to have to tidy up 🤣🤣

chillichillioil · 01/09/2022 14:47

@Skylark1990 awww so happy for you 💜💜 can defo make out your little bean.

I have mine in an hour bloody nervous x
