@Wouldloveanother sounds very similar to me, it's miserable isn't it. Hopefully we'll get some relief soon.

@Gilm0reGirl I thought about getting a doula but I came to the conclusion that it would just cause me more anxiety wondering if she'd be available when I go into labour.

Skylark1990 · 30/08/2022 14:57

@Gilm0reGirl that's great news! I had a doula for DD's birth and it was really helpful although I'd encourage you to really make sure you feel absolutely comfortable with her. I really liked ours and thought she was 'cool' but in hindsight perhaps I wasn't entirely comfy with her as I remember during my labour being quite conscious of her presence and potentially this was a hindrance in some ways - you don't want to be worrying about someone feeling comfortable etc when you're in labour! She was great in loads of ways though, during the labour.

And of course, you will get to know your doula over the course of your pregnancy so plenty of time to build that rapport and get to know her :)

I'm actually a trained doula myself - I did the course after DD was born - I've helped a few friends with postnatal stuff but not had any professional clients yet or done a birth as haven't had the time! But doulas are amazing. Definitely worth the investment.

Are you thinking of aiming for a home birth? x

I feel dreadful today. 8 weeks. Just feel totally wiped out and ill. I’m back at work next week and not sure how I’ll cope. I feel like I need a week in bed.

Tubbytele · 30/08/2022 15:37

@Lunabun I just came back from my midwife appt and blood tests, and thought the same about the bounty packs. Haven't opened it yet though.

Longbin · 30/08/2022 15:44

@Lunabun I had mine from mine yesterday. My bag was empty other than a urine pot for the next visit?! 😂 feels more real now

ancienthouse · 30/08/2022 15:55

@Lunabun I thought (hoped?) Bounty had gone into administration. I hope they aren't still allowed onto postnatal wards. I can't believe the NHS allows it at all, it's like corporate sponsorship it's awful.
After I had my DD a bounty rep pushed into my cubicle while I was trying to get her to latch, I could barely move after a traumatic c section, and she was demanding to know if I wanted photos. I was feeling so vulnerable I didn't want to see anyone, let alone a sales rep! I just told her to go away and she kept asking if I wanted her bag of crap which was useless to me anyway. They're vile and they prey on vulnerable women and trick them into paying for overpriced photos then sell their details to a bunch of companies.

DBS94 · 30/08/2022 16:27

Ladies how far along are you all and when are you planning on telling immediate family?

I'm 8 weeks on Friday and have an early private scan booked for Sunday morning. Was going to tell my parents and my in laws after Sunday as long as everything in the scan seemed okay. I know things can still go wrong so going to refrain from telling everyone else until 12 weeks but would be interested in hearing your thoughts? Is 8 weeks too early to be telling parents? It's my father in laws 60th in jan and my MIL keeps talking about booking a surprise holiday so trying to tell her before she books anything for us! Xx

Longbin · 30/08/2022 16:31

@ancienthouse no one came round to see me when I had my daughter so maybe they have?

@DBS94 I've already told parents and some friends, I told them at 6 weeks. I'm telling people when I see them now at just over 8 weeks. On the odds reassurer thing, my odds of miscarriage are now 3.3% which I deem a low enough risk to tell people. I don't like feeling like it's a huge secret so I prefer to just drop it into conversation. If I had another miscarriage, I would be upset about telling people but I don't think it would really upset me any more than having to deal with it anyway if that makes sense. I think it's different for everyone though.

Gilm0reGirl · 30/08/2022 16:41

@ancienthouse agreed re bounty packs in the hospital. Our rep was fine and left when I politely declined but I've read all sorts and I don't like the whole data stealing to sell on for a lousy bag of samples you never really get round to using. We would never use them for newborn photos either they have no training, one didn't even know how to turn on and use the camera at our hospital and had to call someone 🙄

alwaysseeingstars · 30/08/2022 16:50

@DBS94 I think we're going to tell parents/siblings at 10 weeks, purely just because the timing works out best for us when we can see people. Otherwise, we'd probably end up telling people sooner as I hate keeping secrets!! On the other hand, after having quite a few losses in the family I am a bit nervous about telling people - one for peoples feelings and two for if something happened to this little one. But, at least that way it's easier to get support if the worst were to happen! I think as @Longbin says, the risk is decreasing quite rapidly - especially after seeing a heartbeat on the scan 😊

LauraA31 · 30/08/2022 17:53

@DBS94 hello! I told mum and dad the week after we found out, so we were around 4 weeks.. told boyfriends grandma the same week too as he is so close with her, she’s more like his mum!
Nobody else knows; i have my scan in a week and half where i should be 7+3 and will then tell the sister and brother 🙂

Is anybody having trouble with sleep?
I’m 5+5 today and the last week has been a nightmare! I fall asleep within seconds because im absolutely shattered, but if the dog wakes me up or if i need a wee i can’t go back to sleep. I’m going to the loo at least twice a night but struggling after.
last night i woke up at 0330 for a wee, laid in bed wide awake until 5 before i could nod back off! That’s not me either, im usually out like a light 😂😂

Lapin387 · 30/08/2022 18:01

@LauraA31 I’m having similar trouble getting back to sleep when the toddler comes in in the small hours. I recommend getting some sleep headphones and listening to the sleep stories on calm.

AliceinSlumberland · 30/08/2022 18:30

@DBS94 I agree with @Longbin , I’m telling people as I see them really if I feel like I’d be happy to tell them if I miscarried. We told parents at 5 weeks cause I knew I’d want their support anyway if I miscarried. I’ve also told a few friends and will tell my siblings/more friends and family if the scan at the weekend is okay. I actually feel a lot less anxious now that a few people know and I can talk it through with them. I also get to tell my therapist on Thursday who has helped me through a lot of the infertility issues, sounds a bit random but I’ve not seen her for a few weeks since before I found out so that will be lovely news to give. Again I’ll need her support if it goes wrong. So I think if you want to tell people, tell them.

@LauraA31 Yes although not as bad as I was initially. I’m waking up quite regularly in the early mornings for a wee or by the dog like you say and struggling to get back to sleep, but I’ve found putting a podcast on quite a good way to get back to sleep so I don’t lie there worrying about the pregnancy.

Tubbytele · 30/08/2022 18:46

@ancienthouse I had DS during covid so luckily managed to escape the bounty rep. Sorry you had to go through that!

AliceinSlumberland · 30/08/2022 18:52

Counnnnttting down the hours until bed time today!!

LauraA31 · 30/08/2022 19:12

@Lapin387 @AliceinSlumberland glad that it’s not just me! That’s a good idea, i normally try play a game on my phone but get bored so easily and lay just thinking!

Im also having really bad hair issues, my hair is generally healthy and soft but since I got my BFP my hair is so dry and snapping, ive lost so much hair to snapping (luckily i had a lot to start with!) but it looks in parts like ive got little baby hairs which is just normal hair snapped. I’m super spotty too which never happens to me 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

@AliceinSlumberland you sound exactly like me ha, im sat downstairs watching TV and boyfriend is in the shower… im monitoring the time so i can get into bed and he can take the dog out hahaha! Going to try to make it until 8pm tonight before getting into bed, bed is calling me though 😂

AliceinSlumberland · 30/08/2022 19:19

I’ve never been someone who goes to be early but honestly I’m loving an early night at the minute!! So tired today and do you know all I’ve done is gone out for lunch with my mum and walked the dogs for an hour 😂 God help me when I’m back at work next week!!

Also @LauraA31 my hairs been okay but omg the spots, my skin on my face is awful. It somehow manages to be really dry but also greasy and spotty at the same time. I look like a pepperoni pizza.

Leanne053 · 30/08/2022 20:33

@Lunabun what's a bounty bag? 🤔

Leanne053 · 30/08/2022 20:41

I'm still umming and arring over when to tell! I'm 5+4 today and so far it's just my boyfriend that knows! I would love to wait for the 12 week scan to tell anyone so I can show the photo but seems ages away and don't know if I'm that patience! I know I can have a early one but don't know if I'm all that bothered 🤔 I'm desperate to tell my mum 😂

MamaMenna · 30/08/2022 21:08

🖐saying hello! Super early days for me, I'm just 5 weeks. This will be my second, all being well. I haven't told anyone yet so I'm happy to have some pregnancy chat here online!

AliceinSlumberland · 30/08/2022 21:19

@Leanne053 ahhh tell your mum, it’s lovely having someone to chat to about it.

@MamaMenna welcome, you’re very welcome here :) how old is your first?

MamaMenna · 30/08/2022 21:22

@AliceinSlumberland thank you 😊 DD is almost 2

Missgemini · 30/08/2022 21:38

Anyone doing the sneak peak sex test?
We got a bit too excited and bought it. Haven’t done the test yet though hehe

Heath2330 · 30/08/2022 22:19

@Missgemini what's the sneak peak sex test? I've never heard of it but would be interested to know more x

Missgemini · 30/08/2022 22:55

@Heath2330 I just came across it randomly. They test the DNA mixed in your blood and are able to say if baby is boy or girl.
I haven’t done the test yet, so will update how it goes when I do it at the end of the week. I think you get results within a few days.
