Aww congrats @OceanbreezeSun on your can and finding out a little boy is cooking away in there! I find boys are defo more troublesome lol my little girl was such a relaxed pregnancy compared to my middle son and I'm going to assume another boy is cooking here too haha.

@Skylark1990 I say go for it! Sounds like your in a good place mentally too this time and feel happy for you and long May it continue 😊

@RedElleJ 🥳 great news and reassuring too considering the rough ride you've had so far! Are you going to find out the sex or going for a surprise?

I think I'm going to try and stick to a surprise baby even though I'm so tempted to find out. But I kept my first two a surprise and it's so worth that extra rush during birth lol. I only found out with my girl because she was a covid pregnancy and hubby couldn't come to scans and wanted to find out so I did it for him since it'll he wasn't there due to restrictions rather than choice. Although saying that I still didn't believe them and was still just as surprised when they cut me open to reveal a little girl haha 😆

Thanks all, horrible few days with his ear infection but coming out the other side now thank god. I've escaped to my mums for a night and left all parenting to her and lazed all day recovering from the lack of sleep

@OceanbreezeSun Congrats on your baby boy!

Breastfeeding was a journey with my son. I was adamant I wasn't going to breastfeed and planned to formula feed from the get go and bought everything accordingly but after a very sudden emcs and a scary start he was finally placed on me for skin to skin and latched on perfectly and that was that. He was relentless though and did nothing but feed, and it was so so difficult. He was just on my boob as long as he was awake and wouldn't sleep for longer than an hour and it went on for around 4 months until I was losing my mind so I started combi feeding after my husband having to practically give me an intervention and then stopped breastfeeding completely at 12 months. I hope to breastfeed again but with a toddler to deal with if I get another relentless cluster feeder I will just combi feed and not beat myself up so much for it this time!

RedElleJ · 16/09/2022 20:49

Congrats @OceanbreezeSun - glad that your anxiety is starting to ease! I must admit the anxiety is slowly easing for me now too…hopefully when I get to the 20 weeks scan and if everything is okay, I might relax even more. Thanks for the breastfeeding advice - good to hear you had a lot of support

@MooBugz yeah we will find out the gender. We don’t live near any family (they are in Scotland and we are in South West England) so we want to share as much of the experience we can, even though they can’t be here. Totally understand wanting to keep it a surprise though - I don’t think I would have the strength to not peek 😂

Glad to hear things are easing up @doingitalllagain Hope you have a lovely evening resting up. I didn’t even know about cluster feeding…sounds like it was a challenging experience so combi feeding is something I should look into just incase.

madeinthe80z · 16/09/2022 21:54

@RedElleJ adding to what others have said re. Breastfeeding. I went to a weekly support group at my local children's centre which was invaluable. I ended up breastfeeding using nipple shields for a whole 12 months. I have giant boobs and not very big nipples so I just think my dd found it too hard to latch without.

Without a doubt though, what they don't tell you is about the cluster feeding and how normal it is to have some days in those first few months literally sat for hours just feeding constantly. I remember my parents and others commenting on how all she does is feed and then i got the age old advice of shoving shit in their bottles to fill them up etc etc. The weekly support group enabled me to normalise this and others were going through the same.

All advice seems to focus on the latch and whether or not you can do it but for me it was more about the state of mind and realising that she was getting enough, and some days that meant feeding for hours, not because my supply wasn't there. Hopefully some of the recommended books will help with that side of things!

I should also say that I do plan to bf again with this baby, however I'm not going to be rigid in that plan as sitting all day binge watching Downton Abbey with a baby on my boob will not likely be possible with a toddler around!! We shall see!

OceanbreezeSun · 16/09/2022 22:22

@MooBugz Even if I had wanted to keep it a surprise till the birth, it was very obvious from the scan screen that little one is a boy 🤣🤣 there was no mistaking! My dh started laughing, the Sonographer must have seen how obvious it was too as he actually asked us if we wanted to know the sex a minute into the scan! (I don’t think nhs sonographers usually do that, as it’s not what the 20 wk scan is for)

Ha, well dd had abit of a dramatic entrance into the world so perhaps ds entrance will be calmer?🥴

Thank you!
@RedElleJ @doingitalllagain

you will all be having your 20 weeks scans soon, I’m looking forward to the updates❤️

Skylark1990 · 17/09/2022 07:38

@RedElleJ can imagine the idea of breastfeeding/ having a baby feels overwhelming right now but you have plenty of time and once baby is here we somehow just get on with it! Like others have said yes the cluster feeding can be intense in the first few months but it's entirely normal and happens for a reason, to build your supply and support baby with all their growth spurting in the early weeks and months! So it can feel tough at times but know it's normal and it's lovely too, very bonding. Just good to have support around you and lean into it. As @madeinthe80z said lots of TV, reading books etc while baby feeds or contact naps, and safe co sleeping can really help too with the night times, following the safe sleep seven, or using a next to me crib 😌 I'm really looking forward to bf a newborn again as they're so snuggly although I do remember the leaking milk and cluster feeding etc, it can be a mission at times haha. I had a snack and water station set up in my usual bf spots which helped as you need to eat and drink a lot,and also a good breastfeeding pillow.

The books I mentioned are great and the course you could even do before NCT, it would still be valuable a bit earlier on. I did both and was the only one of my NCT friends who didn't really have any issues with milk supply or pain at the beginning, I do think the la leche league course was excellent.

Skylark1990 · 17/09/2022 07:40

@madeinthe80z in terms of bf with a toddler I'm thinking a sling will come in handy! I imagine it'll be much more feeding on the go etc. Is your toddler going to be in nursery some of the time?

Skylark1990 · 17/09/2022 07:44

@MooBugz It doesn't look like I can get a scan for next week unless I want to pay £80 😟 all the cheap ones are booked up! But I spoke to the epau and they were reassuring and so I'm going to try to just have the faith and power through till my NHS scan in just under 3 weeks.

Still feeling v nauseous etc so as horrible as that is, hoping a good sign.

@OceanbreezeSun congrats on your 20 week scan and your little boy!!! That is such wonderful news! Did you have a feeling it's a boy?

What's everyone else's feelings on what youre having if you don't know yet? I feel like this is a girl... Terrible sickness and the fact I ovulated a few days after we had sex makes me think this but both these are sort of old wives tales arent they do who knows!

RedElleJ · 18/09/2022 07:26

Morning all,

Thanks again for all the bf advice! I have a list of products to buy on my phone now, 2 books on the way and a bf antenatal course booked in November 😂 Hope I’m not jinxing anything before the 20 week scan!

I think I’m having a girl @Skylark1990 - my husband works in the military and the type of job he does mostly produces girls apparently haha! I also always said I wanted a boy and the universe has a funny way of giving you something different doesn’t it?

Hope everyone has been having a lovely weekend x

MooBugz · 18/09/2022 12:41

@Skylark1990 it's crazy how expensive they are aren't they? Mine were both £60, a friend had said she booked hers for £45 in her last pregnancy a few years ago so just shows the money to be made in peoples anxiety!

Give yourself little milestones and the three weeks will fly in 🥰

Quite a few 20 week scans happening soon how exciting! I'm still not going to find out and try not to subconsciously look for the sex either now that I know what to look for haha 😆

Hi ladies,

quick question - I’ve noticed that I have a small spot on my stomach…just to the left of my belly button that is really tender to touch. Has anyone had anything like this before? I feel fine…did have a slightly painful cramp in my stomach earlier but nothing major and nothing since. I think the cramp was me needing the toilet really and the constipation is back again 🙈

Rubes1234 · 18/09/2022 20:10

Hey all!

@RedElleJ ooh I have this too. I have quite a few small fatty lumps in my stomach and my dr said when everything is moving they can aggravate nerves etc and become tender. Hopefully this is the same as you. I’d never felt them before being pregnant.

Im having a real crampy day today. It doesn’t take much to set the anxiety off. As for the private scans I feel like I only get about 2 days reassurance and tbh I have the worst anxiety leading up to it and convince myself something is wrong so we have decided to lay off them a bit now we know the gender and wait for the 20 week in 10 days. It’s so hard to get yourself out of the funk but I would also say if you wanted reassurance to go and get one.

I also can’t believe the jump in price for 4D. Is anyone thinking of getting one or has anyone had one previously?

doingitalllagain · 18/09/2022 20:24

@Rubes1234 I can't lie I really don't like the 4D scans, we had a 4D preview with one of our private scans and the photos were too creepy for me 😂

MooBugz · 18/09/2022 20:33

@Rubes1234 LOL the 4D scans creep me out haha I remember a friend got one a few years back and I was just like ehm...cute.. but really I find them really strange and goo like almost like baby is melting or made of cheese lol

OP posts:
Skylark1990 · 19/09/2022 10:28

@Rubes1234 also not a fan of the 4d ones over here 😅 defo a bit creept. Also the usual 2d and 3d technology has been shown to be safe for a long time but 4d is stronger frequency and more recent so some doctors have warned against them, we don't know for sure how safe they are. There was a guardian article a few years back I think.

Sorry to hear the anxiety has been bad. I actually feel better now I've decided not to have a private scan in between now and my 12 week one so I know what you mean. You found out the gender?! What are you having?

@RedElleJ I've not had this but I do get strange pains all over my stomach, I do think it's mostly just stretching. Also re having a girl - is your DH on bicycles a lot?! Or in tight trousers? Haha as I've heard that can kill boy sperm 😂

RedElleJ · 19/09/2022 14:19

Mystery of the sore spot - half solved!
i now have a very small bruise which I think is from me wearing my jeans yesterday…time to give them up I suppose. Either that or all my prodding caused a bruise 🙈 but going to keep my calm and not stress about it - if it’s not gone by the end of the week I will call the midwife team.

@Skylark1990 he works in an environment that kills off all the boy sperm 😂 just goes to show you, us females are strong as hell!

I don’t think I’m going to get a 4d @Rubes1234 - same as the other gals, just not a fan of the image and I think, even though they aren’t crazy accurate, if I’m finding out the gender I still want their little face to be a surprise ☺️ But I know loads of people who have them and think they are amazing so it really is just personal preference - do you think your anxiety will settle after the 20 week scan? X

Gamergirl84 · 19/09/2022 17:36

Laughing about all the poor boy sperms 😆
I have ZERO intuition as I was convinced ds was going to be a dd. I'm waiting until whomever it is pops out in February!
I've stayed away from private scans so fsr- I can't really afford it and hubby won't justify it but I probably wouldn't get a 4D anyway, I love the surprise!

11 days until my 20 week scan and I'm a bit nervous. I'm older and so the risk of abnormalities is higher, just hoping baba is healthy 🙏

STom2 · 19/09/2022 17:59

@gamergirl84 I'm in same boat as you. But older (38 next month), so I also get nervous about the 20 week scan! I practically held my breath through the one with DS. After about 10 mins the sonographer had to say to me "everything is looking good by the way, I'm only quiet as I've to concentrate". He was so focused checking all the different things one by one and trying to get proper visuals I was convinced something was wrong!!

OceanbreezeSun · 19/09/2022 19:18

@Skylark1990 Thank you!
I have had a strong feeling quite early on that dc is a boy, I had the same feeling with dd that she was a girl, but I guess you have a 50/50 chance of being right!

I’m glad we found out, it’s nice to be able to talk about him to dd and say ‘your little brother’ etc❤️plus it’s really helped us narrow down names. Dh and I struggle with boys names!

@MooBugz I laughed out loud about the 4D scan pics looking like the baby is made from melting cheese🤭

Skylark1990 · 19/09/2022 19:28

@RedElleJ oh no, you poor thing with a jeans bruise! I actually just busted out the maternity leggings today. I definitely have a bump at only 11 weeks. Anyone else had.one this early? Meant to have second time isn't it?

MooBugz · 19/09/2022 20:09

@Skylark1990 with my second I struggled to conceal the pregnancy in the first trimester I was popping out!

Hope everyone is doing ok and had a nice relaxed day 🥰

I had got myself mentally prepped and bought a nasal rinse bottle thing from Amazon yday and oh lord. I was preparing for the worst but nothing happened LOL but I did feel much better and don't feel as congested even though nothing came out (quite glad actually don't know if I could have handled that kinda nasty so early in the morning). I've had an up and down week with the sinus infection going into 4th weeks now but it seems to be finally easing so 🤞🏼

We had a friends kids birthday party yday and I felt nice for once so maybe the glow up is on its way at last haha. Oh and 20 week scan next Wednesday cannot wait X

Gamergirl84 · 20/09/2022 09:00

@OceanbreezeSun omg we struggle so much with boys names too. We had a stroke of inspiration with our ds and now nothing feels as good or as fitting as his name.
We have three girls names we really like and are pretty confident one of them will suit.

Nameberry.com is pretty good 👍

Skylark1990 · 20/09/2022 09:28

Hey I know someone mentioned a FB group again. Just to say I'd be very happy to do this (be lovely to get to know you all more and see baby pics when they arrive etc!) or a WhatsApp group. So just adding in a yes vote. I think as this is a relatively small group, both FB or Whatsapp would be OK and not too overwhelming!

RedElleJ · 20/09/2022 09:29

I am game for WhatsApp - I never use Facebook if I am honest.

STom2 · 20/09/2022 11:10

Another one for WhatsApp. I've not used FB for years.

Also, another one here struggling with boys names. Have a few girls ones we agree on. But with DS we only had 2 and very much loved the one we went with. I always thought the second would be a good back up until SIL had a boy and named him that reserve name we had (she never knew we'd considered it so no harm!).

I want an Irish name but not one that will be difficult for people to spell/pronounce as we live in the UK. So that really limits our options. 😄
