All ok here, he's turned around so is facing my back which has changed what I can feel and how my bump looks. Strong heartbeat so I'll try and relax until my 20 week scan on the 27th!

Scorpio8 · 12/09/2022 15:55

@doingitalllagain

Very happy for you. You can relax now

STom2 · 12/09/2022 16:45

@doingitalllagain Fabulous news!! Hope you can enjoy the reassurance for a bit but I understand that might be hard until you start feeling those proper kicks. Also, good to know how different them turning around can make things at this stage. Gives reassurance to anyone else worrying about the frequency of early movements.

Lmcc88 · 12/09/2022 17:21

@doingitalllagain so happy to hear that! Also not too long till you get to see him again!

MooBugz · 12/09/2022 17:45

@doingitalllagain really pleased for you ❤️

Thank you all - I feel very relieved to be 18 weeks with confirmation this baby is ok. We've officially made it further than last time now baby wise and with my gestation now too. Milestones passed.

I can't wait for us to all have our babies. Is anyone else getting excited whenever a new due date thread pops up, I keep seeing the May one popping up in active. Every new one means ours is ever closer Grin

How is everyone else doing?

Gamergirl84 · 13/09/2022 07:35

Hi all- so pleased for the HB @doingitalllagain ! It's respite for a few qeeks hopefully.

I've been so sick the past few days. Looks like I have gastroenteritis, again, and have been on the loo or being sick in a constant loop. Nothing but water and bile coming out now.
I'm so worried about baby. I've read that they're all safe in there but the heaving and retching really concerns me.
I'm talking to my midwife later on today but I can't help feeling a bit down. 😕

STom2 · 13/09/2022 08:24

@gamergirl84 That's so rubbish! I'm sure your MW will be able to reassure you later but that doesn't take away from how woeful you must be feeling physically. Have you any idea what caused it? Such rotten luck to have it twice in such a short time frame.

Gamergirl84 · 13/09/2022 11:09

@STom2 I think my toddler gave it me although he only had it midly. Feel so drained and useless at home.

Hopefully better in a day or two but yeah it's hard having to wait till the 30th for 20wk scan! X

STom2 · 13/09/2022 12:29

@gamergirl84 That's rotten luck. I'm not sending DS to nursery until the new year and I dread the influx of illnesses coming my way. That said, it amazes me how resilient they actually are considering their immature immune systems. I recall last year my DS had a bad cold that lasted no more than 72 hours. But he passed it to my entire family and they were wiped put completely for a fortnight. Really really sick with it!!

Just try to rest as much as you can and keep getting the fluids into you. When you feel this ill you need to just lean into it as rest is the quickest way of helping to get you back on your feet. When I had covid earlier in this pregnancy I did bugger all and my house was a kip. But these things are temporary x

MooBugz · 13/09/2022 13:50

Sorry to hear your feeling rough @Gamergirl84 I hope it passes soon. Nothing worse than throwing up to the point of bile 🤢

If it helps I've had a sinus infection this is me going on third week of feeling congested all over and I get temp relief here and there it's going away slowly but surely lol

@STom2 glad you are prepped mentally for the various bugs your little one will bring home! I'll never forget that first year haha it's a new cold every other week! And like you say they get over it within days and it's us that struggle with it when hit 😣

Hello, I posted a couple of times in the last thread but then disappeared due to hibernating for a while. I’ve been in hospital with HG and with medication am now managing a lot better (still not great but so much better). I have tried to catch up and so pleased to see the positive updates from so many.

@Gamergirl84 Sorry you’re unwell. What my consultant has said to me about sickness is that baby’s are little thieves and not only steal
our hearts but also all the goodness they need. I have been sick (a lot) over the past 9 weeks and everything still seems ok. The hospital have really reassured me that sometimes the reason I feel worse is because baby is taking what they need first. I’m still going for a private scan just to check but did take some comfort from their words. Hope it provides some comfort to you as well.

I also agree with who ever mentioned about seeing new threads popping up with the months on. It’s surprising how many are after us already.

Scorpio8 · 13/09/2022 20:34

Did anyone yawn and stretch was scared they hurt their bump?

Well this happened to me last night but today calmed down and realized how silly I was. I think it was liagments that was hurting me.

Because feel like baby is moving I feel okay now.

Gamergirl84 · 14/09/2022 18:46

Thanks @MooBugz and @STom2 I feel that this little monster is definitely taking all my goodness! I've come down with everything going but I'd rather it that way 😊
@ChangeHtotheP so sorry you've suffered- it's not a nice start to the pregnancy but hopefully the medication is taking some of the brunt.

Crazy to think in a couple of weeks some of us will be half way though!
At the start someone mentioned starting a FB group when we were all a bit further along, perhaps we should? Maybe after 22 weeks?

On a positive note I'm feeling a lot better and have booked an extra app with my midwife for reassurance. Still a bit tender, feel like I've gone six rounds 🥴

doingitalllagain · 14/09/2022 19:42

My toddler had a cough and cold last week and spread the love, I've got such a bad cough that once I start I've ended up being sick a few times today. Feeling really bunged up and generally gross and totally exhausted. Had a grand total of 2 hours sleep last night as my toddler woke up a few hours after I put him down screaming in pain saying his ear hurt and was up all night with him, he crashed at around 5am Sad took him to the doctors and he had a really bad ear infection that could barely look in his ear it was hurting him that much. I thought he'd sleep all day after last night but he's gone right through and I've never been so tired. I snuck off to bed at 6 because I couldn't cope anymore but he kicked off about his dad doing bed time and I don't want to make things worse when he's this poorly so I got back up and did it expecting it to take 5 minutes.. an hour later! Trying to fall asleep but overtired and coughing and feeling proper sorry for myself, and I just know he'll be up in a few hours again in pain and it'll all repeat Sad pregnancy just kicks your ass when you already have kids to look after doesn't it?!

RedElleJ · 15/09/2022 14:39

Hey @doingitalllagain - sounds like it's really tough at your end right now. I hope little ones ear infection clears up soon! Sending lots of love x

I've been feeling really low the last few days. I have started to notice the weight I have gained and I stupidly weighed myself too which just sent me into a total meltdown! I have no noticeable bump - just look fat and wide to be honest. I think I maybe need to be a bit more careful with my diet cause I really don't want to put loads of weight on. I am 17 weeks today and I am up 6lbs...seems excessive right!? I wasn't a slim person to start , around a size 14 and quite short, so think I need to be stronger than my cravings.

I also feel super guilty to be upset about something like weight gain as I know its normal and I worry that by being upset the universe will somehow think I am ungrateful and take the pregnancy away from me. I know that sounds ludicrous but yeah, I think my hormones are doing a number on me. Private scan tomorrow though so hopefully all will be okay.

How is everyone else feeling? And any advice on body positivity/acceptance? I did just book a virtual fitting with bravissimo to see if that helps me...maybe buy some nice clothes afterwards too.

Sending love and positivity to all x

STom2 · 15/09/2022 14:49

@Scorpio8 This definitely sounds like round ligament pain so I wouldn't worry about it harming your LO. I did something similar the other night. Actually woke my DH up as it hurt so much I gasped and had to sit on the side of the bed. I'd basically just coughed while lying in a certain position.

@RedElleJ Sorry to hear you're struggling with body positivity atm. I know this can be quite common for women to feel this way during pregnancy. What I can say is what you've gained so far is actually very very normal and not at all due to any sort of over indulgence. I'm 18 weeks today and have gained nearly 9lb. And I'm happy with this as I read you usually expect to gain roughly half a kg per week. Of course, this will fluctuate and you will gain more some weeks than others. I think I gained a total of 10-12kg with DS. What I can say is that with your first the weight loss is much quicker than with subsequent children. Are you thinking about breastfeeding? I did with DS and genuinely the pregnancy weight fell off me. To the point where I dropped below pre pregnancy weight and worried I needed to be eating more! Of course everyone will be different but as I say, what you've gained is normal and take it as a good sign. Your body is growing and doing exactly what it needs to to nourish your baby. x

Skylark1990 · 15/09/2022 17:02

Hey everyone, just thought I'd check in as I lie here in bed feeling ill at 4:50pm 😅 been keeping track but haven't posted in a while. You're all so far along now, so lovely! Best of luck for the 20 week scans coming up 🥰🥰
Sorry to hear about the tummy bugs @Gamergirl84 that sounds super tough. If it's any consolation I'm over here spewing too although different reason ofc.
@doingitalllagain so happy for you that you got through the scary few days of when you lost your last baby 💔 that must have been very hard. Sorry to hear about the ear infection. The worst - hope it clears up asap and you're not too tired today!
@RedElleJ I have actually put on more weight than I expected too and I'm only 10 weeks! I got weighed at my booking appointment and I'm 5kg more than I was pre pregnancy 🫣 I was quite surprised although I'm sure lots of it is fluid retention, the blood quantity doubling etc. But I have been eating pretty badly, as I can't stomach much, although also been spewing. As @STom2 very normal to be putting on a bit of weight and similarly to her after DDs pregnancy I lost all the weight v fast through breastfeeding. It just fell off, all the weight for turned into milk I think 😂 I didn't actually put loads on during that pregnancy anyway as I had heartburn all through third trimester and couldn't eat much. Don't worry, it's all part of it. Our bodies go through so much!

@STom2 I literally just coughed and hurt myself as I read your post.

I've been feeling really low as I'm just finding this sickness and nausea really really hard to cope with. I really hope it starts to ease off soon. I think the hormones are also starting to make me feel a bit down, or that could be because I am feeling so depressed about feeling sick. Unsure atm whether I'll get a private scan next week when I'll be 11 weeks as my NHS scan is when I'm 13+3 so feels ages away. But only 3 weeks so not too long really. We go on holiday next weekend for 10 days as well so that should hopefully make the time pass quickly, I just hope I'm not too sick to enjoy it. 🤢

MooBugz · 15/09/2022 18:01

@doingitalllagain oh dear that sounds awful and very mentally/physically tiring. Can you get some respite for a few hours of the day where you can rest or have some me time? I sympathise with your situation I feel it's been constant through this pregnancy my kids getting all sorts and passing it around amongst the 3 of them and juggling work in there too it's not easy. You're doing a great job and working on battery saving mode is kind of a given for us mums I guess!

@RedElleJ don't be so hard on yourself lady! I put on a hell of a lot of weight in my last two pregnancies! Try and remember it's a good thing and you will bounce back if you out the work in after but it takes 9 months to grow that bod so they say 9 months to get back to pre preg. Honestly try not to get down about that I just wouldn't even weigh yourself! I did out of curiosity too and have put on 4kg so we're about the same all normal.

With my last baby I made an effort to lose weight after I was able to and little changes like no junk food and one cheat day a week where I could eat what I want meant I stuck to it. Within two months I had lost 10kg and I had been doing 10-15mins strength training from YouTube videos each morn and a 30min walk. It's all about your motivation. Right now you need to grow this baby so focus on that and eat what you like it's totally fine, worry about the weight after and we'll be in the same boat so we can battle the bulge together 🥰

@Skylark1990 hey girl 😎 I say go for that private scan! I had two and even then they felt like forever of a wait. Anything that puts your kind at ease so worth it even if it's just temporary esp after what you've gone through. I have to say I still do the knicker check every time I visit the loo before finishing work because that's how it started last time and I guess the trauma stays with you doesn't it

RedElleJ · 16/09/2022 08:24

Thanks for the reassurance ladies - I just feel like a hot mess at the minute!

I ordered some new sports bras and booked a fitting at bravissimo to see if that can help feel more comfortable again. Think I will treat myself to some nice autumnal dresses once I get a bra to fit me again. I've essentially gone up a dress size but my boobs have gone up two so my current clothes are just not working out for me.

Sorry about the nausea @Skylark1990 - my heart goes out to all you mums who are managing pregnancy with little ones still running around. Might be good to go for a scan - pick your spirits up a bit seeing as the nausea has been getting you down?

I am hoping to breastfeed @STom2 I know not everyone can but really hoping it is something I can do. I have booked an antenatal course with NCT which has a breastfeeding session so fingers crossed that it will help. Anyone have any tips/good resources for preparing to breast feed?

Thanks @MooBugz - I am normally a very active person so hope I will get back to it after baby arrives. I have developed a bit of a fear of exercise (except walking) but I have just booked antenatal yoga which starts in November and I am going to try swimming soon. Have been putting off swimming as I can't hide the bump and not many of my colleagues at work know yet but if all goes well today I think I will tell people so I can nip into the pool judgement free.

Skylark1990 · 16/09/2022 09:55

@RedElleJ if you want to breastfeed and you have the right information and support, you should be able to :) It's rare to have an innate physical condition that makes you unable to, most of the time if unable to it's more to do with not having the right support early on or being given the wrong information, that sort of thing.

That's great you are doing NCT! I would also very much recommend doing the La Leche League free online, interactive course - it's just 4 hours spread over two nights and super helpful. Here is a link: www.laleche.org.uk/antenatal-courses/ - you'd normally actually do the course when you're around 35/36 weeks so it's fresh when baby comes, but no harm getting in touch soon to book as it can book up quickly.

Books-wise I love The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League (it's like a breastfeeding bible, absolutely huge and covers everything under the sun) and also Food of Love by Kate Evans (really funny, has cartoons, spot on advice). And it's important to know that if you have any issues or pain at the start, get support straight away, and an IBCLC can be really helpful and is often worth investing in - that's like the highest level lactation consultant you can get :)

I am super passionate about helping new mums breastfeed if that's what they want to do so am always here as well, if you have any questions or want to chat either before baby is here or when they are! ❤Just winding down now with feeding DD at 2 years so can also share my experiences. It's helpful having other breastfeeding mums in your circle, so again NCT will be great for meeting other mums etc :)

Skylark1990 · 16/09/2022 09:56

@MooBugz thank you ❤I am thinking a scan next week would be nice! I think my DH would rather not as he'd rather save the money but I know he'd get on board if I really wanted to. I feel the time is draaaagggging. Just looking forward to our holiday, we are going to sunny Spain! x

RedElleJ · 16/09/2022 13:23

Thanks for the recommendations @Skylark1990 - NCT isn’t until January so takes me up to February. Hopefully could squeeze that other one in after.

thanks for the breastfeeding books too - it seems very overwhelming to me right now.

just back from my scan and baby was wriggling away 🥰 Measuring a day ahead too so maybe my emotional meltdown over the past few days has been growth spurt related.

STom2 · 16/09/2022 14:21

Great news on the scan @RedElleJ !

Couple of tips from me on things to have to hand from the offset while establishing breastfeeding - nipple shields and MAM nipple compresses. The nipple shields helped me massively with initial pain, as did the MAM compresses. Those first few days can be a bit tough on your nips while you establish a rhythm. I stopped using these after a while as your boobs just get used to it. But I definitely used both from the off!

OceanbreezeSun · 16/09/2022 15:12

@Skylark1990
I’m sorry to hear your nausea/sickness is still very much present , I hope it eases for you somewhat in the next few weeks❤️
I would say go for the scan if you feel it will help with any anxiety.

@RedElleJ great to hear you had a positive scan!

Regarding breastfeeding, Dd and I had to stay in hospital for abit after I gave birth, so I really made use of the midwives and asked them lots of questions about breastfeeding, one lovely midwife in particular really helped me and actually showed me positions and helped with dds latch on a few occasions.
Fortunately, dd and I took to it well and found out our own way of doing things but don’t be afraid to ask and be shown. Also lanolin balm ( in the purple tube) helped my nipples feel less sore in those early weeks.

We had our 20 week scan yesterday!
It was all good, so very happy - baby was wriggling around and stretching their legs, even saw a yawn!
it just feels like another milestone and I’m finding the anxiety is easing as the weeks go on, I don’t think it will ever go completely but it’s much better.

We also found out we are having a baby boy!💙
We honestly had no preference, but it’s lovely to have one of each & dd kept saying she wanted a baby brother🤣
