Had our fabulous 12 (13) week scan today! Baby was giving us a round of applause for much of it 😅

I had mine this week. I provided a urine sample to check for protein, glucose, etc. and we listened to the baby’s heartbeat. So amazing! 💖 It was also a chance to ask any questions that have been on our minds. We talked a lot about birthing options even though she said that’s usually discussed at a later stage. Good luck with yours!

LiveLaughL0ve · 18/08/2022 20:58

Whoops! That was supposed to be added as a reply to @Iwantcake89 . Didn’t quite do it right.

BritInNZ · 19/08/2022 06:36

@Daisychainsx omg so glad you've said about the bump size worry! I tried on an outfit yesterday and look at the size of my bump?! First baby and just over 12 weeks so I was freaking out I was gonna be huge - I hope I get the reduction in bloat too 😬

Daisychainsx · 19/08/2022 07:18

@BritInNZ that's exactly how I was, then I just woke up yesterday and it was gone, totally flat! 🤣

Akmc · 19/08/2022 10:15

I had my third 16 week appointment last week and it wasn’t as I’d remembered for my previous, so I don’t know if it’s just post-Covid or because it’s not a first but here’s a rough idea, I’ve not got any immediate risk factors that would affect day to day appointments (eg diabetes, high no eg ), so this is is probably just a very basic outline:

  1. Urine sample
  2. BP test
  3. Asked about alcohol (?!)
  4. Checked hospital preference
  5. Checked I had 20 week scan booked in
  6. Checked status of any other referral appointments / made enquiries where necessary
  7. Took bloods for Anti D testing (if Rhesus Negative)
  8. Time for any questions
My book was missing a growth chart which they’re going to post out, and I’m sure I’ve had a Doppler and tape measure at 16 weeks before, maybe someone else can confirm?

Best of luck!

Akmc · 19/08/2022 10:17

@Iwantcake89 and I said it was last week, it was this week 😜🙄. Just being dim. She 4th Feb so my appointment was actually 15 weeks 2 days rather than actually 16 weeks. Also I see you should, all being well, get to hear heartbeats, so best enjoy that! 💜

Bunny2006 · 19/08/2022 11:40

My 16 week appointment is on Monday (I'm due a day before the original poster who asked about it, 1st Feb :) ) so that's helpful as I've been wondering. I was told they don't routinely listen to the heartbeat at 16 week check anymore, but it may be available on request, I'm hoping to hear it..

Iwantcake89 · 19/08/2022 11:55

Thanks everyone! I just got back from my appointment. It was really quick so feel a bit deflated! I had a carbon monoxide test, blood pressure and urine test and then she went through my previous blood results. Asked how I was feeling. But she didn't listen to the heartbeat :(
I also made my appointment for my whooping cough vaccine around 20 weeks and my next midwife appointment at 25 weeks. I've got so many appointments I'm losing track!

Akmc · 19/08/2022 12:38

@Bunny2006 @Iwantcake89 It’s such a shame there’s no listening at 16 weeks, I wonder why? I always love hearing it! My whopping cough vaccine is a ‘sort it out yourself’ jobbie, have to go to a drop in session at the local hospital, bit of a pain. Four weeks until the next scan, at least there’s that to look forward to!

PeanutButterFalcon · 19/08/2022 12:57

My 16 week appointment is next week. I’ll be 17+2.

last time with DD we got to hear heartbeat however I’m aware some areas do not do this due to it being difficult to find and causing worry but hoping they’ll do it after the bleed I had at 14 weeks.

Already have my consultant appointment through but no scan date

Bunny2006 · 19/08/2022 13:36

Yeah I think it is a shame, but they told me it's for reasons as above. I'm going to still ask, I haven't heard the heart beat yet they didn't do it at 12 weeks. I will have to remember to ask about whooping cough but I imagine they'll tell me at the appt how I go about booking it if they don't do it for me. We've booked a private scan including gender for next Wednesday, could've had it this Wednesday, but we're not desperate to find out the gender just want to make the most of seeing baby again!

Dorset2 · 19/08/2022 16:50

I had my 16 week app yesterday despite being 17 plus 1. I’ve been brought forward to Jan 25th from the 12 week scan.

I had the carbon monoxide test, urine and blood pressure checks. I thought she might weigh me but she didn’t. I was ready to go when she said ‘Shall we listen to this baby then?!’ (I’m in Kent) I didn’t think they would do it so that was a lovely surprise and quelled some anxiety. We have our gender scan tomorrow 😃

Scorpio8 · 19/08/2022 18:18

Had my 12 week scan yesterday and was nervous glad everything is okay. Baby was not going what she wanted and couldn't do measurements. She told me wiggle my butt and go empty bladder and walk around so funny now.
Think slight shocked how baby had got so big. Looking at the whole it's like there really is a baby. She like your due February 21.
I only told my 15 year old today and they are happy. Still need to tell my parents.
Anyone still haven't told many people and finding it very hard?
Although I have told friends, manager had too was going crazy
It's hard keeping it secret.
I want to tell my mum but need to see her face to face next week. I have to tell my dad too. I actually don't care about no one else for now.
They will know in time well I look big already.

PeanutButterFalcon · 20/08/2022 11:15

I’ve had more spotting. Went back to the gp yesterday who examined me again couldn’t see a reason and said to wait for my midwife appointment this week.
im not used to this with DD they would scan me straight away if something was happening, now I just feel in limbo

RBSK1 · 20/08/2022 13:15

Had my 16 week appointment yesterday despite only being 15+4 🙈😂 (midwife only works Fridays!) had the usual CM test, blood pressure and spoke about test results. All good, very pleasantly surprised they let me listen to baby's heartbeat (was told last time I was too "large") but student midwife had no problems finding baby right in my hip and a nice strong 145bpm heartbeat.
Gender scan on BH Monday, the excitement is building!

Could you call the maternity assessment unit? Theres a department u can call if u get bleeding after 12 weeks i think its the maternity assessment unit, details should be there on your pack.

I had spotting at 13weeks6days (3 days ago) , it stopped later on the day and nothing since so ive not raised it with anyone but if it happens again i think i will ring the maternity assessment unit..

💕

PeanutButterFalcon · 20/08/2022 14:16

@blibbyblobb not where I am unfortunately. I have no one until I’m in the 3rd trimester now.
first lot was 2 weeks ago and lasted 1 day this time it’s the second day and still going

Bella9992 · 20/08/2022 20:44

@PeanutButterFalcon I've had spotting this week too (currently 14 weeks) my EPU got me in to scan me though. Seems like such variation in the care.
They couldn't find any cause of the bleeding so 🤞.

PeanutButterFalcon · 20/08/2022 23:47

@Bella9992y EPU stops seeing you past 14 weeks here so unfortunately not an option. I also don’t have a midwife, like I did previously as they don’t have any staff, so not able to contact anyone that way either.

glad everything was ok for you and you could get checked. It’s always a worry.

Akmc · 21/08/2022 19:59

@PeanutButterFalcon Hope you’re ok 💜. Is there no community midwives team to speak to somewhere in the ether? We’ve got polar opposite situations I feel; doctors have absolutely nothing to do with pregnancy but there is always the local midwife team to speak to if you’ve got the patience. I had a bleed with my second around this time, it was some cervical irritation? I can’t remember the name, but I assume they’ve considered all this? Given it’s happening for a second day, is there a possibility your doctor can get you a referral now? As I’m assuming you’d prefer to get someone to help get to the bottom of it.

PeanutButterFalcon · 21/08/2022 22:54

@Akmc I’ve got my 16 week appointment this week with them so the advice I have been given is wait until then. I have no way of contacting them until then! It seems so different from my first.
they’ve examined me both times and can’t find the cause, had a swab taken for infection too. I bled with DD but was before 12 weeks so could go to EPU each time.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 22/08/2022 12:42

Has anyone felt any movement yet?
I'm 16+6 and wjth my first son I felt popping around 16 weeks but so far I've felt nothing.
I heard baby's heartbeat at my 16 week appointment which was a reassurance, but still feeling slightly anxious. Half the time it could be movement or it could be belly's usual feelings Grin

Bella9992 · 22/08/2022 13:20

Yes, I can feel movement, started with flutters and now have light kicks (feels like I'm being poked from the inside)! It's much earlier than I expected (14 weeks) but it's my second and I found out I have a posterior placenta this time. I felt my DD about 16 weeks with an anterior so guess it's not surprising it's been earlier.
A lot of people say it feels like popping so rounds like it could be! So exciting.

blibbyblobb · 22/08/2022 13:32

@Bella9992 Omgosh how exciting!

@YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch
This is my second pregnancy thats made it through to the second trimester. I remember feeling with my soni felt him kick around 20 weeks... Nothing at the moment (14 weeks).. Eagerly waiting 😁

I was wondering has anyone got a solid baby bump? When did u get it? Mine still feels like a big bloat
