Hi all, looks like we'll be filling up today or tomorrow. I wanted to create the thread early so we can have a link to the new one. Have a nice weekend!

@TeamBluex3 congratulations on the boy! Don't feel bad about feeling sad, gender disappointment is very real.

I found out at the weekend I also have that issue with the placenta, with you mentioning you had it in the past did it take many more weeks to feel the baby kicking?

LolaJ87 · 19/07/2022 16:26

@TeamBluex3 huge congrats! You're definitely Team Blue 💙

DogsAndGin · 19/07/2022 16:29

I will definitely be taking DH to the 20 week scan - he loves to see the baby. We’re so sure it’s a girl, we’ll be hugely shocked if the nubologists were wrong 🤣

I’m 19 weeks now and still haven’t been given a date for the scan. My midwife never texts back so I’m just going to wait and see 🤷🏼‍♀️ Off to meet with the consultant on Thursday though, hopefully to discuss booking my ELCS in.

I saw two colleagues with huge bumps today - turns out they’re only 3 weeks ahead of me! Made me feel like my bump is tiny. When I lie or sit down, you wouldn’t know I’m pregnant. Anyone else still not showing much?

Orcarain · 19/07/2022 16:35

Thanks @Tofu35 and @LolaJ87. Midwife on the phone was putting it down to heat. My dad was saying last night he had one too! So maybe it’s genetics and us Scots not being able to cope past 20C!

I’m going to keep an eye on it. I was freaking out about pre eclampsia! Midwife said it was too early to be exhibiting signs and my blood pressure was on the low side at my 16 week appointment, so no cause for concern.

I honestly feel like a worry wort! Luckily all of this morning I could feel tummy flutters! Really hoping that was baby trying to let me know it’s all ok!

Jaaxe · 19/07/2022 16:46

@TeamBluex3 aw I was rooting for a girl for you! Boys are wonderful tho, don’t feel bad for being disappointed but then remember to be glad they’re healthy and that’s what matters most.

good luck with everyone’s 20 week scans! I have my 17 week scan on Friday, which I’m nervous for. Wish my partner could come to all the scans, this will be my 3rd this pregnancy and he’s not going to be able to come, he’s only been to the 12 week one as it’s the only one that fell on a day we had childcare and kids aren’t allowed to the scans in our trust 😔 x

Tofu35 · 19/07/2022 17:13

@Orcarain we just had a big rumble of thunder in glasgow, I definitely used to get migraines when there was high humidity/thunder coming. Wonder if that's connected to your experience?

Orcarain · 19/07/2022 17:44

@Tofu35 oh maybe! I do get tension/cluster headaches in the summer - never full blown migraines. Not since I was a teenager anyway. Will never forget my first one, I was out on a bike ride with my best friend and all of a sudden couldn’t see her in front of me! As a 13 year old I thought I was dying!

KittyKat1989 · 19/07/2022 18:01

I had my 20 week scan yesterday. She (!) is measuring on track and everything looks healthy. I was really worried as I haven't felt any movement yet and don't really have a bump, so it's such a relief to know that everything is OK in there. She is baby #1 and apparently my placenta is at the front and quite low, which is why I might not be feeling movement yet. I can't wait to start feeling her though.

@DogsAndGin Do you mind me asking why you are going for an ELCS and how you are arranging this please? I really feel like it's the best option for me and I don't know where to start with requesting it. Thank you.

MissC07 · 19/07/2022 19:14

@DogsAndGin I'm also not showing much at the moment, although I'm 5"11 so don't know whether that also has something to do with it. I keep expecting to wake up and just 'pop' one day! I've got my scan a week today so will be reassuring to see what's going on in there!

Tofu35 · 19/07/2022 22:27

Oh @Orcarain poor younger you, migraines and cluster headaches are never spoken about when we're younger until we get an attack! Must have been so scary if it impacted your vision :(

RhiRhi1996 · 19/07/2022 23:27

I had my gender scan on Monday, and I'm having a girl! So the nuboligists did guess mine right too :) x

TeamBluex3 · 20/07/2022 09:02

Sorry for late reply ladies but @Tofu35 i shall change my username 😁
@tasha4eva10 its nice that someone understands as i was quite upset yesterday & midwife spoke to me in the consultant room and reasurred me that it is normal to feel like that as they see loads of other woman who have been the same but i suppose my tears soon turned into happiness because atleast he is perfectly healthy (got 2 go for 2 growth scans though) as my last baby was a LGA & he was 2 weeks & 2 days early & weighed in 8pounds 8oz! Also i have had all my boys early so i would like this little one to stay in aslong as he possible can! And as for the anterio placenta, i had this when pregnant with my middle son who was born 3weeks & 3 days early, he only just missed out on been in baby special care unit as his weight was just enough for him not be in there if that makes sense (5pounds 13oz) it just cushioned him acted like a punching/kicking bag i would say didn't affect when he started to kick it just meant that it didnt feel as strong if that makes sense? I have found that to be the case with this little one too but the midwife did say from 20 weeks onwards as baby gets bigger & stronger we will feel his kicks ect more x
@Jaaxe thankyou x
Any ladies want to upload their babys measurements just to compare sizes ect? 😊 here is my little boys..

Mammatob · 20/07/2022 11:53

Anybody else not got a bump and no other symptoms? I am starting to panic worry! x

GabsK92 · 20/07/2022 12:40

Hello! I just wanted to give an update on what happens on your 20 week scan in case it helps those with scanxiety (I know I had it!).

It’s a long scan, probably 30-45mins if baby is in the correct position. They look at spine, kidneys, head circumference, femur, count hands and feet, check the blood flow to the heart and from the umbilical chord. My radiologist was super amazing fantastic and could tell I had major anxiety so would say “this is in the normal range” as he was taking the measurements. I know this isn’t the standard though so you may expect your radiologist to stay completely quiet the whole time.

now my baby was NOT in the correct position and just completely refused to move. She faced away from my tummy which isn't what you need when you want to take the heart measurements. The lady at reception gave lots of tips to get her to move - main ones being drink small sips of coke and make sure you’ve eaten properly. I had only had a super small brekkie so was quite hungry which can apparently sedate baby a bit.

So my top tips is: make sure you’ve eaten, bring a snack and water (maybe a coke too!) and try to enjoy it as much as you can. Good luck all xxxxx

Solstice143 · 20/07/2022 14:15

Thank you for more info about the 20 week scan 🌸
Does anyone know if you need a full bladder for this one or not? Or if there's any other info we need to know.
Last time my bladder was far too full anyway apparently
Thank you

Laughingmole · 20/07/2022 14:55

Just had my 20 week scan. Baby didn’t want to face the right way but with a bit of prodding, the sonographer got all the measurements she needed. Everything is perfect and she confirmed boy 💙 it only took about 20 minutes, including some jumping up and down trying to get him to move! So glad all is ok!
Hope everyone else having their scans today went well too xxx

GabsK92 · 20/07/2022 15:11

@Solstice143 nope I could go to the loo just before my scan. x

StarveInn · 20/07/2022 15:35

I had my 20 week scan this morning too, baby was extremely cooperative (not like at the 12 week scan!) and all measurements were perfect and everything looks healthy. I’m thrilled because we’re having another boy 💙 As much I as I would have been happy with a girl I can’t deny that I was hoping for a boy.
@Solstice143 my appointment letter said I needed a full bladder. The sonographer at the 12 week scan said to repeat what I’d done that time because it was perfect so I had 1 pint of water an hour beforehand.

MissC07 · 20/07/2022 16:21

@Mammatob I don't really have a bump yet (I'm 19w tomorrow) and my symptoms have kind of disappeared. But I think symptoms disappearing is normal at this stage, I'd hate to go back to feeling nauseous every day. Hope you are doing ok x

DogsAndGin · 20/07/2022 16:47

@MissC07 thank you for the reassurance 😊

@KittyKat1989 Congrats on your little daughter! I have a lot of reasons for an ELCS - the need originally stemmed from trauma. How about you - What’s making you consider one?

I did a lot of research to persuade myself to have a vaginal birth, but I can’t find any statistics to suggest it’s safer.

When my midwife asked (at my 8 week booking appointment) about where I’d like to give birth, I said it’ll need to be the hospital because I’ll be having an ELCS, it was pretty much as simple as that (so far!). She delved a bit further and I cried talking about trauma - she has arranged a chat with a mental health nurse for that. But she didn’t question my wish for an ELCS, she just told me to expect a meeting with the consultant anytime before 38 weeks, and I am meeting them tomorrow. I’ll try and remember to update you on how that goes tomorrow 😅

I’m going with all my research (6 pages 🤣), and the NICE guidelines, and remember - since the Ockenden Report, hospitals are no longer incentivised to reduce their ELCS rates. If you want one, you can have one.

DogsAndGin · 20/07/2022 17:05

@GabsK92 Thank you so much for the info on the scan. Very helpful! So pleased yours went well! Bring on December 😁

Jaaxe · 20/07/2022 17:18

@Mammatob i also don’t have much of a bump but my clothes are definitely getting tighter! Here is a photo I’ve just taken in work!

@Solstice143 i don’t think you need a full bladder for 20 week scan as the uterus has moved out the pelvis by then.

I’ve got my 17 week scan on Friday and I have no idea if I need a full bladder or not, might go with one and empty if not required 🤷‍♀️

Sdoubleyou · 20/07/2022 17:19

Thanks @LolaJ87, I'm pretty sure it was just muscles stretching and twitching as well as gases. I've been pretty calm this pregnancy, but I definitely went down the rabbit hole on that one.

So great to see all the updates! Congrats to all the ladies who've gotten their scans. Mines next Thursday and I can't wait to see our little dude again!!

@TeamBluex3 thank you for the reassurance regarding the placenta my daughter is currently using it as a pillow when we had a scan at the weekend 😂 so hopefully this is a sign she likes her comfort and will be a good sleeper.... I can only hope right? 🤣.

Yes I'm sure once the "shock" of another boy is over you will be just as excited as you have been with the others so don't feel guilty. Glad he is perfectly healthy.
