Hi all, looks like we'll be filling up today or tomorrow. I wanted to create the thread early so we can have a link to the new one. Have a nice weekend!

@stuntbubbles No not all I've already thought about that, due to my history of mental health. She is aware but I'll probably speak to her at my next appointment x

stuntbubbles · 17/07/2022 18:25

@hopefulsunshine11 Do! I’m on the “batshit” pathway so getting well looked-after by my midwife and a plan being made for after the birth. Easier said than done but try not to worry about food, or at least try not to Google! Stick to the NHS page on food and ignore everything else – there’s really very little that’s unsafe x

Mommabear20 · 18/07/2022 07:37

@hopefulsunshine11 I agree with @stuntbubbles , stick to the nhs website for what's safe and not. The internet is loaded with things that are aren't safe, but 99% of that will be those things in excess, as with everything in life. Look at caffeine for example, people can go way over the top and say pregnant woman shouldn't consume any, but every midwife I've ever spoken to (this is my 3rd baby) has said it's absolutely fine to consume caffeine, just limit it to 1 or 2 servings a day, and you and baby will be absolutely fine. I know it can be hard, especially if it's your first, but just remember, even the things the nhs say not to have, even if you were to accidentally consume it once or twice, the chances of it doing any serious damage are very slim.

Morning all! I have my first ever acupuncture session shortly. My hospital offers it to all maternity patients. I'm hoping for it to be relaxing, if I can avoid focusing on the tiny needles! I'm here early and plan to take it easy afterwards, including slow-paced working from home later.

I hope everyone stays safe in the heat wave! My HR lady at work advised me to work from home today and tomorrow, which is great, as I was going to suggest that myself. (I'm grateful to have a job where that is possible.) Even though the office has A/C and my house doesn't, I don't want to risk getting stuck on a train or platform in the heat. And my appointment this morning is a short bus ride away, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Tofu35 · 18/07/2022 09:26

Ooh you'll have to tell us how the acupuncture goes @Bluebonnet3.

I live in Glasgow and we get today off, it's a regional bank holiday ("fair Monday"). So I'm feeling grateful for not needing to think about work today! Although it's 'only' meant to be 28 degrees here, nothing compared to those who live in the south of England!

Mommabear20 · 18/07/2022 11:46

Working in a train station with no aircon today, and absolutely melting!! We have made it better by ordering McDonald's for lunch! 😂 our area manager has just walked in to 3 of us sat eating McDonald's and darent say anything to us 😂

Tofu35 · 18/07/2022 12:56

I'm sitting with the curtains closed in the living room, wearing a tankini top and shorts, melting. Husband walks downstairs and he's in jeans and a long sleeved denim shirt. Words are failing me 😂

Adenike85 · 18/07/2022 19:21

Hi all, apologies if this has been discussed. Any recommendations on best buggies with easy fold , lightweight but multi-terrain ( pretty subjective I know) ,the choices can be overwhelming!

Meowcat89 · 19/07/2022 08:35

Thanks @siobhanmt247 😊

@Tofu35 it went so well! The cake was filled with blue sweets and everyone was so excited. Cake has always been mine and the hubs "thing" so it just made sense to announce in that way.

Nutella99 · 19/07/2022 10:40

I think there were a few with 20 week scans this week. How are you all getting on?

I have mine tomorrow. Currently freaking out a bit. It seems like a long time since the 12 week scan, so what if there are issues?

Also just had a "omg, there's a baby in there?!" moment when I looked at my belly. It still comes as a shock sometimes lol.

Orcarain · 19/07/2022 12:05

Anyone experiencing migraines? I’m 18 weeks today.

I had one last night. I’m currently in an Amateur musical theatre show and at the interval I suddenly couldn’t see the Side of my face.

came home and went to bed, but woke up at 2am, not being able to speak or lift my head. I was so frightened. DP called the midwife unit but only advice they could give was a cold compress - which did actually help. I’m off today so still lying in bed with my compress.

MariaDingbat · 19/07/2022 12:06

I have my 20 week scan tomorrow too. Nervous as always but we had a scan last week and all was well so hoping for the same tomorrow. If anyone has their first 20 week scan coming up, you will probably be a bit sore and feel tender the day after. I freaked out when this happened last time but apparently it's normal because they have to push hard to get the good views. Good luck everyone!

Sdoubleyou · 19/07/2022 12:25

Have any of you had weird sensations in your belly? Last night I had what I think (after frantically googling) were some sort of muscle spasms, either my intestines or belly or uterus. It was a little right and slightly lower than my belly button. I freaked out for a good 15 minutes and panicked that baby was having a seizure. My DP and Mom talked some sense into me. Anyone have this? I haven't been to the bathroom in two days. I read that it may be that.

@Orcarain do you usually get migraines? I get them anyway but don't have visual aura and that level of speech disturbance. I can only imagine how frightening it must have been if you aren't used to them. That sounds like a really severe migraine. I think you should go see your GP tbh as they might prescribe you a triptan (my consultant cleared me for this if needed but I haven't been that bad as yet).

@MariaDingbat yes, that's such a good point - I've been very tender after my anatomy scans too, they really lean on you hard when they are trying to check specific measurements.

@Sdoubleyou I've felt loads of "odd" sensations but it seems nearly all strange pregnancy things are considered normal tbh. It could have been a muscle spasming because it's stretching or like you said, just being a bit backed up. Are you sure it wasn't little movement flutters either? Try not to jump to the worst, it's very unlikely that there's anything wrong with your baby.

Tofu35 · 19/07/2022 12:53

@Orcarain I've had visual migraines before and they are scary, although never had one that affects speech. I'm so glad you can take today off to recover. If it happens again, see if your GP can prescribe migraine medication to you- some of it is safe for use during pregnancy. Although generally it isn't usually prescribed unless someone has multiple "attacks".

Working from home today and I started overheating. I became so worried it would hurt the baby, that I sat in the kitchen with 2 bags of frozen peas under my arms trying to cool myself down again. I ran a fever before my miscarriage last year so obviously my thoughts went straight there. Not easy this pregnancy lark.

LolaJ87 · 19/07/2022 13:02

@Tofu35 that was quite a smart move really, I saw a midwife on TikTok saying the fastest way to cool yourself was something cold under your arms or putting your feel into cool water. Hope you're feeling a bit better now. You're doing everything you can for you little one.

Tofu35 · 19/07/2022 13:13

Thanks @LolaJ87 just having a bit of a wobble (or mega melt!). 20 week scan next week so just need to remain positive and cool until then :) hope you're doing ok in the heat!

AG96 · 19/07/2022 13:14

20 week scan tomorrow and do feel quite nervous. Just really hope he's okay. Feeling nauseous which I assume is down to heat and lots of nerves for tomorrow. Good luck for all upcoming scans everyone!

Bluebonnet3 · 19/07/2022 13:40

I still have a couple of weeks until my 20 week scan. Are you ladies going on your own or with your dp? I'm not sure which ones are good to share and which ones may be better on your own. Up to 12 weeks I had my dh come with me as we had a mmc before and I was nervous. He has said he will go to any I want him there for.

tasha4eva10 · 19/07/2022 13:42

@Bluebonnet3 my partner has come to every one we have had so far (5 total at the minute) I never even thought about him not going to any as I'm sure he would like to share the experience and see baby at every opportunity

Mommabear20 · 19/07/2022 14:04

@Bluebonnet3 DH has been to every single scan I've ever had (with the exception of 1 during lockdown when partners weren't allowed in). I'd say scans are a nice opportunity for them to feel involved and see their child, midwife appointments not so much 😂

Tulip1112 · 19/07/2022 14:06

@Bluebonnet3 same for my hubby! He loves seeing the baby and it means as much to him as me. Until we feel kicks from the outside, I think they can feel quite left out so it's a lovely opportunity to get involved and have a shared experience x

LolaJ87 · 19/07/2022 14:51

I've brought my husband to all my scans, except my last one as he had covid. My mam came with me instead, I think it's always good to have someone with you.

I felt baby move from the outside today!! I had ice cream at lunch (he seems to be a fan) and felt a stronger nudge than normal (mostly pops and flutters until now). I pushed my hand really hard against where I'd felt the nudge and after about 30 seconds he nudged back. It was amazing! I hope my husband gets to feel it soon 😀

TeamBluex3 · 19/07/2022 15:37

well ladies had my 20 week scan today & found out its yet another boy! 😂 mummy to 4 boys omg feel so outnumbered now haha did feel abit dissapointed if im honest (please dont judge), as a girl would of been nice for a change but he is healthy & perfect looking in every way 💙 also found out i have anteria placenta again! goodluck to those with upcoming scans this week x

Tofu35 · 19/07/2022 16:13

Lovely news @TeamBluex3 about your healthy looking boy- you'll need a name change soon! This thread is a no judgement zone :)
