@CurryandSnuggle how many weeks were u when they did it ?

CurryandSnuggle · 03/06/2022 11:19

@MrsNT with my son I was 39 weeks, and this time I was 39+4. I’m having another one tomorrow.

CurryandSnuggle · 03/06/2022 11:24

Ladies who have had real contractions (not braxton hicks), what did it feel like? I know it sounds mad but I can’t remember what real contractions feel like from my lady pregnancy 7 years ago, all I remember is lots of pressure.

It’s just that today each time a contraction is happening I’m getting pain low down, no back pain though. Sometimes my cervix also hurts whilst the contraction is happening and I’m getting pressure in my bum. They’re not lasting long though. I don’t know if it’s just weak early labour contractions, or more intense braxton hicks.

Yesterdsy I was getting braxton hicks all day but they were painless and just slightly take my breath away.

Letsbekindplease · 03/06/2022 11:32

@CurryandSnuggle mine were really tight feelings at the both sides of the bottom of my back. I found them agony lol. I’m dreading that again. My friend had pains in her tops of her legs.

EarlGreywithLemon · 03/06/2022 11:58

@CurryandSnuggle what I remember from mine is the very clear tightening feeling, really different from the period pains I had when they put the pessary in. I don’t remember back pain, even though our daughter was back to back.

Prema112 · 03/06/2022 12:41

@MrsTwentyNine Oh wow!! How wonderful! Congratulations! I'm so jealous! Enjoy your lovely bundle!

Just been for a big walk all morning and still nothing happening here except a bit of backache and lots of bloody discharge but I think that's because midwife was pretty forceful with sweep.

@CurryandSnuggle It's frustrating isn't it! I was hoping you'd have baby news, they are just too comfy in there...

@JAR1981 Oh wow congratulations!! So sorry to hear it was quite a tough birth. So glad you're home now with the little cutie, and what a great name!!

@MrsNT I'm sorry to say my sweep really really hurt, I had to ask her to stop as I couldn't handle any more. I was 40+1 and cervix was very favourable, soft, 2cm dilated. I've had a lot of bloody discharge since and still feel sore up there. I think she was just super forceful...

MrsNT · 03/06/2022 12:48

@prema112 @CurryandSnuggle is it similar to how they do a smear test ?

Prema112 · 03/06/2022 12:51

@MrsNT It didn't feel like a smear for me, I don't find them painful. I think I'm also really swollen down there so any rummaging around would be painful. My midwife was not slow or gentle so maybe ask if yours can be, there's not reason to rush it

JAR1981 · 03/06/2022 13:09

@CurryandSnuggle i only had 6hrs of contractions before I went to theatre so not sure how helpful this is, but I did go from every 15-20 mins in that time to 3 in 10 at 4 hrs and every 2 min for the last hour.

For me it started as intense period cramps and as they were so spread apart I didn’t recognise them as contractions (luckily my husband did!). As they ramped up they lasted about 30-40 secs each I think. The pain took time to build and passed quickly beyond the pea of each one. It was really low in my abdomen (around cervix region) and I had a few really strong ones that also passed into my thighs and made them cramp too. All contractions made me feel like I needed to poo with a lot of pressure in my bum. I tried to go in a bedpan with lucky husband holding however I couldn’t try whenever a contraction hit and had to give up! I was leaking a lot of amniotic fluid throughout and still had knickers on but husband/midwife were switching my maternity pad around every 15 mins. I didn’t get offered gas and air until the last hour when the anaesthetist came in for my pre-op and started asking hasn’t this woman been offered any pain relief. It was amazing when it came! Otherwise the only way I could handle a contraction was upbreathing and standing leaning my forehead against husbands.

MrsM29 · 03/06/2022 13:10

Hi All,

I'm 40 weeks on Sunday and I have my next midwife appointment next Thursday so will be 40+4.

I'm tempted to ask for a sweep can I just ask to have it done at my appointment or do I need to call and book one? Also can I just get her to check my cervix and then if at least soft and good get her to do it? Instead of trying if all closed

sunflower198 · 03/06/2022 13:29

Ah congratulations to everybody who's babies have now arrived 😊 I can't keep up with the thread now that my little one is here.

We have a slight case of jaundice here so trying to get lots of sunlight in today before he has another test tomorrow 🤞🏻

ChildOfFriday · 03/06/2022 13:44

Congratulations to everyone who has had their baby and best of luck in getting things moving to those who are hoping for theirs to arrive soon!

@Rolledthedice Hello due date buddy! I wonder how close our babies' birthdays will be Smile No real signs here yet I don't think but I'm bouncing on my birth ball, been eating pineapple and have a curry on the meal plan for this week Grin

InvisibleDragon · 03/06/2022 14:26

Congratulations @MrsTwentyNine ! That's lovely news!

@JAR1981 Sorry to hear the birth was difficult and stressful for you both. Glad to hear you're home and hopefully enjoying some baby snuggles now! Congratulations!

fpeg · 03/06/2022 16:25

@MrsTwentyNine congratulations on the safe arrival of your little one!

@JAR1981 amazing news! Sorry that it was a tough start but wonderful that you are home and getting to know each other 💕

@sunflower198 we had to do lots of sunlight too, managed to stay just below the line on the graph but she had to have daily blood tests for the first 6 days bless her, hope yours settles out more quickly xxx

@CurryandSnuggle my contractions definitely started as pressure in my bum, that was my first indication the next one was coming. They moved from bum pressure up to back pain to begin with and when things progressed came up the front instead.

beansprout55 · 03/06/2022 18:20

Congratulations @JAR1981 and @MrsTwentyNine!xx So thrilled!

@Vimto1991 hope you're ok love?x

Random - Baby brush. Have you bought one and if so where from? Jojo are out of stock of their cute wooden ones with elephants on and reviews of others are mixed saying they're not that soft etc.... 🙄

beansprout55 · 03/06/2022 18:24

Oh and vitamin D drops?

Vimto1991 · 03/06/2022 18:26

@beansprout55 having my third pessary in a bit, despite contractions being 2 minutes apart for 50 seconds and being intense - I was only 1cm this morning.
also was sick about an hour ago (started having eggy burps and went off food so I’m hoping it’s not a bug!!) and I’ve had about half hour sleep since yesterday 😩 it’s just not going well for me unfortunately. Totally worth it to meet the baby, but I really just want to give birth and leave this place with the baby now!!

beansprout55 · 03/06/2022 18:29

Praying for you right now. It will be so worth it hun. You've got this xx
When will they next check to see how dilated you are??
Let them know you're totally exhausted already! I'm rubbish at knowing about temp pain relief to help aid sleep, FTM, but hope they can do something so can regain energy before the birth xxx

CurryandSnuggle · 03/06/2022 18:43

Thanks guys who replied to me. I am 99% I’m in the latent phase of labour. Still quite infrequent (about 1 every 35-40 minutes) but painful contractions and I’ve been getting pink discharge upon wiping all day. I’m feeling very period crampy.

EarlGreywithLemon · 03/06/2022 19:19

@beansprout55 we didn’t use a brush for the baby for a good few weeks, but then got one from John Lewis - this one I think: www.johnlewis.com/anyday-john-lewis-partners-baby-brush-natural/p2025240

When she developed cradle cap we used this one, but honestly, I can’t say it worked:
www.amazon.co.uk/Pourty-Cradle-Cap-Massage-Brush/dp/B00VKAVAAS/ref=asc_df_B00VKAVAAS/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310569029981&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11505582266365604606&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044970&hvtargid=pla-562781032786&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
In the end Dentinox shampoo did the trick.

For Vitamin D, we just did D Drops - the most readily available I think.

Prema112 · 03/06/2022 19:22

@Vimto1991 Aw love so sorry it's so tough. Praying for you too and hoping it starts going a bit faster! Will be 100% worth it when you have your baby

@CurryandSnuggle Exciting!! Hope it ramps up for you soon, did you have another sweep today?

@MrsM29 I asked for a check at 40 week appointment and said if it looks good then I'd like a sweep but not to if it didn't look ready. Cervix was 2cm and soft so I then consented to sweep, you can definitely ask for just a check

fpeg · 03/06/2022 19:36

@beansprout55 if breastfeeding your health visitor will give you and baby vitamins for free. Wish I'd have known this before I went out and bought a load for the two of us ☺️

unknownscot · 03/06/2022 19:37

Vitamin D should only be for breastfed babies - in Scotland you get it on prescription I'm sure - not sure about England as you pay for prescriptions so maybe just buy it OTC?

Octoblockisadick · 03/06/2022 20:19

Congratulations @MrsTwentyNine and @JAR1981 !!

Sorry not much has happened yet @Vimto1991 , hopefully the 3rd pessary tips you over the edge.

I'm still waiting for theatre, there's been a lot of emergencies today so I keep getting delayed. They've put me on a monitor now though, and it appears I'm having some contractions so they might fast track me up the list a little. I hope so because I haven't eaten since 7 last night!!

CurryandSnuggle · 03/06/2022 22:06

@Prema112 thanks lovely, they are ramping up now 😓 they’re 13 minutes apart now and really rather painful. I’m having a bath and going to start my Freya app soon. Slightly worried I’m not going to get any sleep and will run on empty later
