Thanks @beansprout55 I am neither in labour nor holding my baby sadly. We've been here the whole day waiting for a room on labour ward as that's where they break waters and it's been too busy so we are still waiting. I'm very thankful that I'm not waiting while having contractions, but not looking forward to a night of no sleep on a busy ward before eventually labouring tmw at some point

unknownscot · 09/06/2022 21:53

The hospital ward is 28 degrees. What the fuck? Poor wee bubs is roasting!!

Lostintranslatio · 10/06/2022 03:51

Ladies, any experiences with preeclampsia? In my weekly check up midwife sent me to hospital because my BP was a bit high and there was protein in urine sample. I've been admitted and I dunno what to expect. I had no symptoms at all!!! Baby is doing fantastic in every check up I have, but I'm scared for myself. I'm 37w2d.

Brightsmoke · 10/06/2022 05:26

Another baby to add. Ralph was born 9/6 at 1637 weighing 9lbs. Not the size they predicted, but a baby on the larger side. He is perfect, feeding so well already!

I had on off contractions from Sunday afternoon, stretch and sweep Monday afternoon, and Tuesday morning. Got to 3cm but induction was booked for Wednesday which, although disappointed to not get my homebirth, I was totally ready for and at peace with.

I eventually got a call Wednesday 1730hrs to go to labour ward due to already being 3cm. Induction began and a midwife thought she broke my waters, and the drip was inserted as I wasn’t progressing much. I said to my husband at the time it just didn’t feel right. But not knowing last time exactly, I thought it’s probably just different. Got the drip up to 16, and the incoming shift change were like wow you’re coping really well as I was just gas and air which is unusual for that level of drip apparently.

Anyway, she went to put a probe on his head as he was wiggling about loads so the mobile CTG wasn't working well enough, and popped my waters to everyone's surprise. Then, because the drip had gone up 5 levels as they thought waters already popped, I was then in absolute agony and delirious with the pain. It was horrific. So I ended up with a morphine injection but it wasn’t working enough so had the epidural in the end, finishing with an episiotomy.

All in all, it was a really positive experience. I'm annoyed I labourer for 12hrs for nothing, I could have laboured for under 12hrs total, and probably had significantly less medication. But it was a fab experience, much much better than last time. And both me and Ralph are here and doing really well :)

Letsbekindplease · 10/06/2022 07:43

congratulations to all the new mums and babies. There’s been a few the last couple days!

@Brightsmoke thats great news that it was so positive for you. Love his little name.

I had my sweep yesterday morning. A bit painful but glad I got it. Had BH all evening but it didn’t come to anything. She said my cervix is long but stretchy and I did bleed quite a bit. I was tensing so much though. Just couldn’t relax. I really hope this gets things going. Baby is engaged and very low down. I’m 2 days over my due date now.

GrowBabyGrow · 10/06/2022 08:49

@Lostintranslatio hope you are feeling ok. My friend had preeclampsia and they admitted her so she could be monitored and induced her at 38 weeks. Mum and baby were completely fine, no lasting impacts.

@Brightsmoke congratulations! Ralph is such a cute name 💙

imhereforthecake · 10/06/2022 08:58

Sorry I've been AWOL.
Congratulations to all the babies appearing! ❤️

Baby boy was born 5/6/22 weighing 8lb 4oz.
Straight forward labour but ended up with a 3rd degree tear which isn't fun at all. But he's so worth it!

CurryandSnuggle · 10/06/2022 10:32

Congratulations to all the new mums.

u’m really struggling to cope with the pain from my episiotomy 😫 it feels like my stitches are being pulled every time I move or sit down.

InvisibleDragon · 10/06/2022 11:09

Congratulations @unknownscot @imhereforthecake and @Brightsmoke ! And any other new arrivals I've missed up-thread!

Hope you're all doing well and recovering ok from the birth!

@Lostintranslatio that sounds like a stressful day! As your baby is already full term, I should think they will be talking about ELCS or induction if they are worried about your symptoms. Try not to worry - they'll be able to monitor you very closely in hospital and it sounds like the midwife picked up the beginnings of pre-eclampsia very early!

fpeg · 10/06/2022 11:56

@JAR1981 I'm using the Medela freestyle flex and I find it very comfortable and I can be mobile with it. It's what I was recommended on another forum and I was torn about the elvie too as it looks so mobile but reviews were mixed as you say and so I didn't go for it in the end. I like that the Medela is closed and you can get spare parts easily for it if needed.

@Prema112 hope things are going ok for you x

Congratulations to @unknownscot @Brightsmoke and @imhereforthecake on your arrivals 💕

Fingers crossed things get going for you @Letsbekindplease

@Lostintranslatio not myself but I know if they catch you early that's the key thing and your baby is far enough along that they can just deliver if needed, must have been stressful, hope you are ok xx

pansytub · 10/06/2022 12:31

@CurryandSnuggle can't remember when you delivered sorry so ignore if not relevant but I've had loads of pain related to my (re done) stitches this time. My suggestions:

  1. spending as much time as possible lying down with no bottoms on airing things and also letting the swelling go down. I know it's properly boring but the biggest thing that helped me was being laid flat so the swelling went down

  2. i am sure the midwifes will be happy to have a look to give you a bit more confidence that all is as it should be

  3. what analgesia do you have? I had paracetamol and codeine (not actual codeine a breastfeeding safe similar thing) and taking the full dose of both every 6 hours especially before you want to be on your feet (for me when toddler home from nursery) made a big difference

Its feeling better now but I'm still sticking to lying down where I can until I feel it's as good as possible. Annoyingly I've had a cough which I'm sure you can imagine hurts like a ***!

Hope it helps!

Lostintranslatio · 10/06/2022 12:54

@GrowBabyGrow @fpeg @InvisibleDragon thanks a million! I'm feeling great. That is why it was a shock when I was admitted. Baby is doing great and BP managed to stable on its own. But as the levels of protein on urine were pretty high yesterday, they can't let me go 😔 So I don't know how long I'll be in hospital for. DR said they will try to get me to 38-39 weeks, but that might change depending on how the situation goes in the next days 😢 I just wanna be home and rest 😢

Danani · 10/06/2022 15:41

Huge congrats on everyone's babies!!! I've been silently lurking here, as I'm only due Aug 1, but love reading your stories and updates as a way to stay informed of what's to come!

Just my 2 cents re dates: get medjool dates, that's really key because they are the best; then grab a date, slice in half, remove pit, pop a teaspoon of peanut butter (crunchy is FIRE) and if you feel real fancy a tiny chunk of dark choc. Pop in fridge and eat as and when! They legit taste like little snickers bites! x

beansprout55 · 10/06/2022 21:35

Congratulations again new mummies! Loving the photos and those on our FB group!
I would comment more on Facebook but as some of you may remember, or have noticed, I use my husbands as I don't have one in my name! Anyway, photos are all gorgeous! Love them!

How goes it today darling @Prema112? Hope you were well rested before they eventually broke your waters (assuming and hoping they have by now!!) thinking of you xx

To all those that have had or are planning vaginal deliveries - what clothing are you planning to labour in or have laboured in? Hospital gown or something of your own? I'm 38 weeks on Sunday and am only now wondering if planning to wear the hospital gown was a mistake. Is it uncomfortable? I don't want to buy something just for it to get destroyed and the nighties I own are quite skimpy. I usually just wear DH's old pj's to sleep in as mens clothes are so comfy 🙈

And water birth, I don't think I'll give birth in it but do plan on using it if I can. Did you go naked, vest top or bikini? What about bottoms?

fpeg · 10/06/2022 23:14

@beansprout55 first time I was admitted I wasn't expecting to be and was put in a hospital gown. I was in it for a good 24 hours and felt perfectly comfortable. Second time they were going to put me in one but they couldn't find any in the maternity unit! So I wore one I brought myself which was just a big button up one from M&S (size 16 to my normal size 12). I barely had time to get into it before baby dropped out 😂. It did get a little messy (genuinely not much) and I was thankful I'd packed two as I was able to change into my second one after my post labour shower.

I'd planned to wear a bikini top for water birth, nothing on the bottom, but I never got the chance to use it!

PlodandPod · 10/06/2022 23:44

@beansprout55 I went in in a loose t-shirt and leggings. I ditched the leggings after a few hours and just had knickers - shorts style from Primark they were brilliant. I did have a dress though (plain black from Primark again) but didn't ever end up taking it out of my bag!

I bought a bikini top for the pool however by the time I got to it I was in an 'I don't care' state and didn't want anything on so just went naked. I laboured for a while in the pool and then had to get out, I was dressed in a gown from then on 😊

Quixk update

Baby boy arrived 10 days early yesterday! All ok and healthy

Will update later with all details
Xx

MrsNT · 11/06/2022 00:40

@beansprout55 i went to hospital in a long tshirt and pjs from primark. Bought tshirt in xxl size so was nice and big.
Pjs ended up in bin with the first discharge in delivery suite. Was in the long shirt throughout labour and git a bit dirty after baby was delivered. Changed into hospital gown after birth to do skin to skin and then after shower changed into clean set of pjs and xxl half sleeve button shirt (primark men section super cheap) . So much cheaper than buying from ladies section tbh and couldnt even tell its guys stuff

fpeg · 11/06/2022 07:20

@MrsNT congratulations! Hope you're enjoying the newborn bubble 💕 can't believe how they change so soon!

Prema112 · 11/06/2022 07:23

He's finally here!! Jesse David arrived yesterday morning at 05.26am (41+2) after waters were finally broken at 01.30am. Labour was very fast and very intense, I'd recommend TENS and gas and air to anyone couldn't have done it without them. Thanks so much to everyone who's been checking in, feels like he's been so long in coming, can't quite believe he's actually here!! 🥰

@beansprout55 I ended up going in in loose leggings and a baggy maternity t-shirt that I'd been using as pjs. Leggings were gone from the first VE (granted I was 6cm dilated by this point already!) I was just in tshirt and socks for most of the delivery, and then whipped off t-shirt and bra for skin to skin immediately. I was lucky and had very little blood loss, but only my socks got anything on them at all! I was really surprised by how not messy the whole thing was! But that first shower and a clean change of clothes felt amazing.

Congratulations to everyone on your wonderful arrivals!! I hope you're all enjoying being mamas, it's just the most magical feeling 😍

InvisibleDragon · 11/06/2022 08:22
