@Flowerbug1994 congratulations I bet your glad you didn't push the best part of 11lb out 😱 did they expect him to be that big??

mrkb · 02/06/2022 17:06

Hi everyone - thanks so much for all the good lucks the other day! Baby B was born at 1:33am on Tuesday 31st May and is doing amazingly! We're super exhausted and have had a lot of difficulty with breastfeeding but just had a great session with an amazing local midwife so hoping that gets better now!

I had a maternal request caesarean and there were so many emergencies on the day that I ended up not being seen until early Tuesday but that was fine - just was exhausted and hungry as I'd woken up at 6am to have breakfast but completely understood that these things have to be done in order of medical priority!

I have to say I'm so so so happy with my decision to have had an ELCS so thought I'd outline a little bit of how it went afterwards for anyone who's got one coming up. I could move my legs a bit within around half an hour of coming out of surgery and by 8am (so around 6 hours afterwards) had complete movement in my legs. I had a bit of a wait for the catheter to be removed as they were busy on the ward - I don't think it came out until 11am ish? - but could walk really easily to the door and back so they were happy to remove it and I drank loads of water so I could wee quickly - which I was able to do within a couple of hours.

They'd said that I would probably be in until Wednesday but because I was so mobile they agreed to discharge me at 4pm so in total it was only around 14 hours between going into surgery and getting discharged! I had one anti-blood clotting medicine injection in the hospital but they said I didn't need to take any home so haven't had to do that. I was sent home with paracetamol, ibuprofen and Dihydrocodeine but have stopped taking the Dihydrocodeine as it was making me feel sick. Other than that not really in any pain at all and can get about easily - had family over yesterday (which was exhausting to be fair) and obviously headed out to the hospital today for the breastfeeding consultation and feel fine. I know I've been very lucky because these things can go wrong and recovery can be hard but I also wanted to share that this doesn't have to be the case and hopefully reassure anyone who's got one coming up that it doesn't automatically mean 6 weeks incapacitated!

Starbeach · 02/06/2022 17:09

@Prema112 and @MrsTwentyNine have you been having contractions before finding out you were dilating?

MrsTwentyNine · 02/06/2022 17:10

@Starbeach no sign whatsoever except I had the "show" yesterday morning

Prema112 · 02/06/2022 17:18

@Starbeach I've been having braxton hicks for months that have ramped up in the last 2 weeks but they aren't painful or regular. I've had back ache on and off for about a week

@mrkb Congrats!! Really happy to hear it was such a positive experience and recovery has been quick

Letsbekindplease · 02/06/2022 17:33

I had my midwife appointment today. I declined the sweep but have said next week when I’m 40 weeks, I’ll have one. She then spoke about booking me in for an induction which wouldn’t be until the 20th! Seems such a long wait and I feel nervous if I go over. I’ve said to DP that sex will be on the cards because I am trying everything to get things moving

fpeg · 02/06/2022 18:11

@Prema112 effacement is the thinning of your cervix, so fully effaced means that it has fully thinned out and now all you need to do is dilate, so you are well on the way if you are already fully effaced. Back to the side is totally normal (I had a scan when I went into early labour and that's how she was sat and doctor said it was perfect for giving birth). I had pain in my back in my early labour and it switched more to the front when the action really got going. Keeping everything crossed for you and @MrsTwentyNine that you both go into established labour this evening/tonight 💕

TowerStork · 02/06/2022 18:25

@mrkb Thanks for that outline. Looks like I'll end up with a section for a breech baby. My main concern is recovery and struggling to breastfed and do things for the baby so it's nice to hear positive stories.

annie1994 · 02/06/2022 18:33

@mrkb congratulations! So nice to hear such a positive story as I’ll most likely be an ELCS!

beansprout55 · 02/06/2022 19:08

@mrkb congratulations!

So many babies this bank holiday weekend probs 😍 SO exciting!!! And I'm super jealous, I'm not due until the 26th!

I hope baby Vimto will arrive soon so daddy Vimto doesn't have to spend the entire night in the car!xx

Prema112 · 02/06/2022 19:20

Thanks @fpeg, really good to know!

Octoblockisadick · 02/06/2022 19:57

Wow @Flowerbug1994 that is big!! Congratulations! Does he fit into newborn size clothes? Did they expect him to be big or was it a surprise?

@unknownscot i agree that consultant care isn't always the best, mine has been a lot of lack of communication between the teams. Hopefully Wednesday goes well for you.

Ooh @MrsTwentyNine that sounds promising! Get doing things to boost your oxytocin and hopefully baby will be here before you know it. You too @Prema112 , fingers crossed for babies soon!

@Vimto1991 hopefully the first pessary works and you don't need any more!

@mrkb that sounds like a brilliant experience and like you are doing really well! Still remember to take it easy though, don't try and do too much and make yourself ill!

Think I'm all ready for the morning now, just got to take some omeprazole at 10pm with a snack. Then I'll be having an early night because I'll need to be up about 5.30am to make sure I get chance to have a drink in the morning and take my meds at 6am. Excited now!

mrkb · 02/06/2022 20:07

Thanks @Octoblockisadick ! Luckily DH is taking excellent care of me - the only thing I need to do for myself at the moment is go to the loo 😂 good luck tomorrow! Very exciting! 💕

Flowerbug1994 · 02/06/2022 20:23

Thanks Everyone 💙💙
@Starbeach @Octoblockisadick wasn't expected to be this bag. Been having growth scans and was plotting along nicely on 70th centile and was estimated he would be around 8lb 8oz at birth. He’s off the centile chart 😂😂 he’s fitting in newborn but I’ll be lucky to get a week out of them cause he’s filling them lovely.

InvisibleDragon · 02/06/2022 20:39

Thank you for the support @Letsbekindplease @fpeg and @annie1994 - quite a nice update. My husband got home from work this evening and apologized fairly unreservedly both for massively overreacting last night and for some specific upsetting things he said. We went out for a walk by the sea and we're going to talk it through some more. Phew!

Letsbekindplease · 02/06/2022 20:50

@InvisibleDragon thata great. Glad you guys feel a bit better and hopefully come to a decision.

amazing news @mrkb congratulations

Northofthebordermum · 02/06/2022 21:23

@Prema112 can I ask how they responded to you refusing induction? Were they ok with it? I had a growth scan today (36w plus 1) and they are now suggesting I get an induction as baby on 95th centile. But I really don’t think I need one! Projected size would mean he’d still be smaller than my first son was and he came out fine so I think they are just being really over cautious. But feel a bit nervous about refusing it….

Lostintranslatio · 02/06/2022 21:47

@beansprout55 due on the 29th June here, so I'll be here waiting for the rest of the month 😂

InvisibleDragon · 02/06/2022 22:00

@mrkb thank you so much for the description of the ELCS recovery, that's so reassuring! And congratulations on the birth of your little one!!

@Flowerbug1994 Congratulations!!

EarlGreywithLemon · 02/06/2022 22:29

@mrkb congratulations and so glad it went so well. Really reassuring to hear! @Flowerbug1994 big congrats - what a great weight for the little one!
@Octoblockisadick very best of luck tomorrow!
I had a call from the hospital at 11pm last night, to say a slot has opened up for Monday. Now scrambling around to sort out childcare, as the nursery was of course closed for the jubilee weekend by then. Our daughter doesn’t normally go in on a Monday so we’d need an extra session, if they have a slot!

pregnancydiaries · 02/06/2022 22:40

Massive congrats @Flowerbug1994 and @mrkb so happy for you both 🤍

@Octoblockisadick all the luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you, and hopefully baby @Vimto1991 too!!

@CurryandSnuggle how are you getting on?

To all the ladies that helped with my section breakdown the other day, we finally got the news today...I'm having a baby on Monday!!! Can't believe that's only 3.5 days away what the!!!!xx

pregnancydiaries · 02/06/2022 22:41

@EarlGreywithLemon eek, we also just got a call today about Monday. We'll be baby date twins! Hope you get childcare xx

Vimto1991 · 02/06/2022 22:43

Thanks guys, not sure first pessary has worked. Getting contractions every minute and a half/ two minutes for around 40/50 seconds and they’re pretty intense. I’ve only had paracetamol so far as I wasn’t sure how intense they’d get and I thought my body would appreciate more painkillers the further along I was.
had a cervix check around 10 to find my cervix is still closed, so had a sob to DH whose now had to go to the car whilst I see if these contractions taper off or if I can dilate with them. Really need to sleep somewhat, too!

unknownscot · 02/06/2022 23:11

@pregnancydiaries that's amazing news, delighted for you.
Are you at QE or GRI? X

pregnancydiaries · 02/06/2022 23:13

@unknownscot we are actually at RAH. After a couple of difficult losses last year I just couldn't face going back to our local just yet which is QE. How's things with you?xx

@Vimto1991 here's hoping you dilate quickly and baby V comes along, or you manage to get a little rest and tomorrow is a new day 🤍
