As I'm avoiding doing any of the useful stuff I should be doing I thought I'd just pop another sidecar up x

@whatwonder sadly Holly Etta hasn't made it to the shortlist, etta was on it but don't think it's great with our surname. I wonder what he'll come up with next week?! It could be a long few months 😂I think you'll be fine with the sleeping thing

Here's one for you...you can thank me later for the inspiration

Splendid names you've come across www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/4450389-Splendid-names-youve-come-across

Can you tell I've been at a riveting toddler group?!

Vil10 · 11/01/2022 14:00

@paintfairy I'm sorry but I think your approach and how you've just worded that is really ignorant. I'm not going to get married if I don't want to because "society says it's the next step", I'm perfectly happy and settled in my relationship and more than happy to set up a home for my future family to enjoy, we can also "protect" ourselves with more ways than just a certificate to say you're married. My children will be perfectly covered and protected. You might absolutely no way put yourself in that position but I willingly am and am happy to do so.

Juno231 · 11/01/2022 14:08

@vil10 gotta say I agree with paintfairy. My cousin is going through this right now - splitting up with her bf with whom she's got a 3 year old and it's completely screwed her over not having been married as she's entitled to nothing pretty much. Bear in mind you're already thinking of dropping your working hours, taking full maternity leave etc - those are all huge hits to your pension, savings and affects your income potential for the rest of your life. From a legal pov it makes complete sense to get that piece of paper if you're willing to jump through the hoop of getting your name changed via deed poll.

Vil10 · 11/01/2022 14:18

@Juno231 I'm sorry if this comes across as rude but what I choose to do with marriage/financial situations has nothing to do with anyone else, whether that be people on Mumsnet, my friends or family. I am perfectly financially stable on my own even without my OH. We have spoken about things we will get written up when we get our house and it will make sure we are both protected and entitled to what we are owed.

lucyrp · 11/01/2022 14:27

@Juno231 @paintfairy if you dont own a house together what advantages does marriage have to anything ??? if you have a child you can get child maintenance from the father if you were to split which is a monthly paymemt which improves your income amount regularly. i know someone who got married not long ago and they'd been together for 10 years plus but now they're having to get a divorce! a costly experience they wouldn't need to do if they'd just carried on as they were

i agree with @Vil10 here i'm afraid. as i have started a family with my OH and we are not married nor have any ideas to do so or at least not in the next 5-10 years. i'd quite like to be engaged for the pretty ring but wouldn't push anything other. if you want to get married then that's great for you but i don't think it should be pushed onto other people who may not want to

lucyrp · 11/01/2022 14:30

not to mention i don't have £35k to spend😂

Very much personal preference marriage. Me and DH had differing views, I grew up seeing a very loving marriage between my parents which softened the blow financially when my mum died and my dad was left with 2 young kids in terms of accessing finances, the house etc but there are other ways to do it.

On the other hand my DH was the catalyst for a shotgun wedding and his parents divorce affected a lot of people whereas if they weren't married it would probably have been less complicated in that case!

Each to their own, everything has risk but IMO this country is still living in the Victorian ages where marriage binds a woman to a man by way of possession and we need to move on so couples get equal rights marriage or not without jumping through 30,000 hoops if you don't get married

Minster2012 · 11/01/2022 15:05

OMG I totally write a response on a different thread that was meant for this. Damn it!!

I think we are getting into a heavy debate on marriage /children which may offend ppl with both views instead of concentrating on the real big ponderances of the day here ladies so perhaps steer clear of the marriage thing & consider this instead...

A) @bez91 has confirmed that 🐊 do eat 🐸 & im concerned a frog will only be mere appetiser for a large hungry croc & what the second/third courses would be...Alexa would know

B) I think you should all ditch your name shortlists & read that thread I linked cos I'm not sure I can saddle my child with the deathly dull Holly Etta compared to "what would Jett Black do?" Or just think of the waves she could make in the world as a fabulous person called "coriander Diamante"

No word of a lie I went to school with a girl called Emily, who's older sister was in my brothers year and called Emma. Their parents were Pat & Pat (Patricia & Patrick), also went to school with a Robert Robertson & he wasn't even Scottish.

Sod marriage, who's up for a we know some funny names game?

Sunbird24 · 11/01/2022 15:10

Someone I know called her first baby Horatio…

larrythelizard · 11/01/2022 15:10

Agree on changing the subject @Minster2012. I was at a baby class with DS and there was a Wilbur and a Percy which made me snigger as to me they're both pig names 😂

"Baby Jesus" is the only name DS ever comes up with when we talk about what my sister should name his new baby cousin...no Spanish heritage here so that's a no go!

OP posts:
larrythelizard · 11/01/2022 15:11

Wow that's a serious name @Sunbird24. Not sure what a nickname would be?! I live in a very naice part of the country and we joked when pregnant with DS that we should decide if he was going to private or state school so we could name him accordingly...!

OP posts:
Sunbird24 · 11/01/2022 15:44

Sean Penn wanted to name his son Steak, as it was his favourite food, but Robin Wright refused - their son ended up being called Hopper. Not sure that’s much better!

Juno231 · 11/01/2022 15:46

@lucyrp there's more than just houses in life. Child maintenance is about the kid and doesn't account for any financial sacrifices you may have made as a mum. It's not for everyone though, that is true!

@Vil10 we will definitely drop the topic but calling paintfairy ignorant was a bit much. Your response to me wasnt rude at all and I agree we should all do what we feel is best for ourselves.

@Minster2012 I think you asked about my 12 week scan a while back and I have no clue when that will be as I'm still waiting to hear back about my booking in app! As for spreadsheets - that was my wishful thinking about all the scan dates, due dates and sex for the thread as I have no idea who's doing what anymore 😆. I think back when @SmileyT ran the grad bus they had so many people on it and it was so busy that they could have all those details in the top post but this bus moves a lot more slowly!

@feliznavidad2 congrats on the baby girl!!! That was my guess for you but I guess that's easy to say afterwards with no proof 😅

whatwonder · 11/01/2022 15:50

ooh I have quite a few of these as used to teach children so saw some pretty special names:

Sisters called Chianti and Chardonnay

Siblings called Random, Darwin, and Theory

Brothers called Anderson, Aristotle, and Apostrophe

Twins called Ocean (boy) and Symphony (girl)

So quite a few ideas for us all!

bez91 · 11/01/2022 15:53

@whatwonder Apostrophe 🤣🤣🤣

We had a temp at work once called Rainbow but that's as wild as it gets!

whatwonder · 11/01/2022 15:53

some of these aren't too bad on their own it was just the combo of them all which made them memorable to me!

larrythelizard · 11/01/2022 16:17

Oh you win @whatwonder!

OP posts:
Minster2012 · 11/01/2022 17:17

Def @whatwonder for the win!
Chianti & Chardonnay?? You might question whether their parents drank a little too much perhaps!!
Apostrophe omg that's hilarious
Imagine shouting out "apostrophe don't put that in there" you'd think some weird grammar police were around 😂😂

@Sunbird24 🥩 brilliant, steak! Do you think they would have been friends with Apple Paltrow?

@Juno231 ah yes so no scan yet hopefully you'll hear on the booking in soon too but you've got the one with NIPT in between. Feel free to make a spreadsheet or list it would def help keep up, you know how good I am (not) at spreadsheets 😂😂

Minster2012 · 11/01/2022 17:38

And Hopper, that's a rabbit surely?! Is it Hopper Penn or Hopper Wright? @Sunbird24 or hopper penn-wright which any child who would then be called something "penn-wright" needs to be a writer surely???

Vil10 · 11/01/2022 17:44

Okay get this, my cousin is a children's nurse and saw a child's name was spelt "La-a" so she was like ermm excuse me, turned out it was pronounced ladasha....

bez91 · 11/01/2022 18:15

@Vil10 oh of course it would be ladasha 😂

On the same topic DH has just come in from work complaining about a demanding woman whose a temp at his work - her name is Ann Teek 😆 tickled me more than it should have

Minster2012 · 11/01/2022 18:17

Oh ladasha, of course @Vil10 so they actually did a name with a "dash" in and say dash?? What?

DKDK123 · 11/01/2022 19:18

@Minster2012 echoing what others have already said, it's too early to 'medically' worry about movements, although I know that's easier said than done as pregnancy full stop can be one bit worry start to finish! Hopefully a chat with your midwife can reassure you.

@feliznavidad2 so glad your results came back good and welcome to team girl! 💗

@kate105 hope you manage to miss covid 🤞🤞🤞

@whatwonder yea previa, so higher risk of placenta detaching as the fibroid is also in that area pressing down on it. I was half expecting it to happen again, it would just have been nice for it not to be there to take one thing out of the equation.

@bez91 I usually manage to get over again after 4ish then DS is awake anytime from 5.30/6ish 😴 The good thing is I'll be well used to functioning on lack of sleep by the time baby is here so it won't be as much of a shock to the system 😂 Sounds like you've got a good system with DH, I'm sure DD will keep him on his toes with the random late night questions 🤣

@blackcurrantqueen eek so close its exciting! How are you feeling about it all as the time approaches?

On the funny name front, my friend is a nurse and had to explain to a couple (who didn't have much English) who saw a 'nice name' on a poster in the hospital why they couldn't call their unborn child Chlamydia 🤣🤣🤣

feliznavidad2 · 11/01/2022 19:35

Some of these names are hilarious 😂
I personally love an old lady name, OH, not so much...

Thanks for the lovely congratulations guys @whatwonder 15 weeks today x
