Hey ladies has anyone got any experience of being induced they can share? Today I was told my polyhydramnios (excess fluid) is still classed as mild but because I'm only 5'2 they think I should be induced at 39 weeks. That falls on the 23rd December which I really hate 😅 as it almost guarantees a Christmas birth day right? All the best doctors will be off at Christmas and also I know inducing causes much worse labour pain and more intervention 😔 it's tough as I don't know if he's really that big as scans and measurements can easily be off. I don't think I look huge. They said he's measuring 90th percentile. I don't know what to do! I'm also quite keen to avoid spending days in a shared ward with how covid is right now 😬 I really wanted to stay home for as long as possible and be able to watch tv, have a bath, bounce on my birthing ball and go in when contractions were regular.

burtle4 · 14/12/2021 20:33

@2020mission if you look at my birth story on page 30 it shows my experience of induction at the weekend at 39 weeks. It really wasn't that bad and I had to have it because he was measuring big and they were right - 8lbs 13oz, so glad I didn't go to term! I went in at 5pm on Friday and had him at 2.14pm on Saturday so it took less than 24 hours. I reckon if you went in on 23rd you'd definitely be done by Christmas day x

lovebeingmum9 · 14/12/2021 20:50

@2020mission hi hun hope your ok? I've had 2 inductions so far (3rd induction booked this friday) 1st induction was because I went 13 days overdue the induction was by pessary inserted in the morning and I just enjoyed the day relaxing and eating etc the contractions started in the night time and came strong and fast....I had complications not because of induction but because unknown to anyone he weighed 10lb 3oz (and I'm a petite 5ft) and I ended up needing an assisted episiotomy and forcep delivery because of his size and the way he came down birth canal he had shoulder dystocia (both shoulders stuck) I don't say this to scare anyone.....it was traumatic but it sometimes happens and he's now a healthy, gorgeous 7yr old 😁 2nd induction I was a bit more prepared that the contractions come stronger and give you less time to prepare for next lot in-between.....I was petrified of feeling the same pain so opted for epidural and again the whole day of induction I enjoyed spending the day watching TV,eating, reading (very rare as mum of 3) and then the contractions came I had lovely pain free experience and healthy 9lb boy born next day who is now 2 😁 I have requested to be induced on my due date so as not to have a bigger baby or shoulder dystocia again and the induction itself I'm actually looking forward to it.......as others have said your experience might be different you may not want or need pain relief....or you might decide you do want it! No trophies for either but a trophy baby in your arms by the end 💙❤

Update from me… I was booked in for an induction on Friday due to complications however my baby girl arrived last night, 6lb 3oz in a 5ish hour labour spontaneously! I was supposed to have a sweep with my midwife but left annoyed as she ran outta time as my consultant didn’t note it anywhere.
Felt some fluid in my underwear at 5pm-ish leaving work, popped a pad in, and around 6pm my contractions were around 5 mins, got to about 3 mins at 8pm.

Was on the delivery suite at 8.45pm, was 8cm already - had gas and air and she was born naturally at 10.30pm.
She’s so tiny and I can’t believe it was so quick but so glad she’s here safely and excited for you all to have your babies!

LouLou0505 · 15/12/2021 03:11

burtle4 · 15/12/2021 10:52

@tuxedocat, massive congratulations! That sounds like a lovely natural labour - although very speedy, you must be in a bit of shock being at work one minute and having a baby the next!
@jadey1991 so glad things have started for you, look forward to hearing your announcement!
So exciting, it's all go now!

2020mission · 15/12/2021 11:09

xTinkerbell · 15/12/2021 15:01

Can anyone remind me about engagement is 4/5 slightly engaged and 1/5 almost fully or the other way round?

Theawkwardblonde · 15/12/2021 15:36

@tuxedocat massive congratulations! Sounds like a nice fast labour.

@jadey1991 glad you're on the way. Fingers crossed for a smooth and safe delivery.

No signs of labour for me yet ☹️ 38 weeks and will no doubt go over 😂

tuxedocat · 15/12/2021 15:42

@jadey1991 good luck!

Thanks ladies, we are home now thankfully and feeling very lucky. It felt crazy yesterday but feel very lucky to have had such a great labour!

@xTinkerbell I think it depends on how the midwife writes it, mine had 3/5 palpable whic meant her head was 2/5ths in

JW2021 · 15/12/2021 16:18

Hello awkwardblonde!
Seems like we are in the few remaining still hanging in there same as you 38 weeks - 4 days today - I’m getting super anxious now hearing about everyone else’s babies arriving while ours are still cooking! How are you feeling? Well I hope - my OB said last week everything is progressing normally and steadily and they’ll be no induction or C-section’s unless it was medically necessary…….so waiting everyday with baited breathe….. I’m actually due Dec 25th how about you? Look forward to hearing back from you 👍🏻👶🏽

xTinkerbell · 15/12/2021 17:09

@JW2021 I’m still hanging in there too though have my section booked.

I remember the feeling with my first of wondering when though! Hopefully it’s not too long for you
