Hi all. Wanting to join a thread where everyone's due around the same time.

Due 11th May, So 8+3 today. Had a MC at the beginning of June so feeling a bit anxious but not doing an early scan (ignorance is bliss in my opinion). Got my 12 week scan date for 28th October (12+1) so not long to wait now 😅

AMM86 · 03/10/2021 20:21

Ok, the tiredness and nausea have well and truly arrived and are doing me in at the moment. Im feeling very sorry for myself!

Most of you seem to be a bit ahead of me (I’m 6+4) so I wondered if you’d been through it and have any tips? I cannot get over how much I’ve slept this weekend. Ginger biscuit nibbling has helped!

GinnyBee · 03/10/2021 20:43

Congrats to those who had scans today and all was well!!!

@AMM86 I'm 7 weeks today so only a couple days ahead of you and have struggled since Thursday! Fatigue hit me on Monday already, but the 'hangover' only arrived Thursday. I find citrus drinks are nice, I like a little bit of orange squash in my water, and today as I was baking I discovered that the smell of lemon helped immensely! Sadly though it only works whilst I'm smelling it, when I was grating lemon peel for the cake, and doesn't last. I'm now trying to figure out how to cloud myself in lemon scents.

Positive21 · 04/10/2021 05:18

So glad everyone has been having positive scans and feeling good!

We took the weekend to tell family which was amazing, just my parters brother to tell for direct family.

Someone else said about stepping away from the boards and actually it's quite valid, no one should feel bad if they feel like it's actually having a negative affect on their anxiety. Sometimes it's good to be aware, but other times ignorance is definitely bliss!

Hope anyone else who has a scan coming up goes well, and those of us now on the wait for our 12 week scan, here we go again 😂💕

Oh also, almost no symptoms now at 8+6. My mum and sister didn't have many so I feel a bit reassured and am still exhausted and sore boobs but it's strange feeling like this. Anyone else? I know I shouldn't complain 😅

aNewYorkerInLondon · 04/10/2021 05:25

@Positive21, that happened to me for a few days at about 6 weeks and scared the heck out of me. I went for a scan and everything was fine. Nausea returned a few days later with a vengeance. My doc said that if I get a few days reprieve of symptoms, as long as it's not paired with bleeding or severe cramping, just take the time as a nice break or an opportunity to get things done that I'd been putting off.

Positive21 · 04/10/2021 06:05

@aNewYorkerInLondon I've been very lucky with the nausea. Other than feeling like I need something in my belly in the morning I've not exactly had any aversions and no sickness. Ive wretched at two things and have decided I really do not want cheese and onion crisps, but am loving salt and vinegar and prawn cocktail 😂

But the exhaustion is another thing. I woke up at 8.30 yesterday morning after 9 hours of sleep and was tired again by 11.30 🤦🏼‍♀️

autumn321 · 04/10/2021 06:14

@AMM86 morning lovely, I'm 6+5 today so the same as you I think! Feeling sorry for myself too. My sleep is horrendous at the moment (coming from someone who normally sleeps well!) I'm going to bed at 9pm but then waking up at 2am and not being able to fall back asleep! I've napped for 2hrs at a time on sat and sun, but don't have the luxury of doing that in the week due to work! Had about 4 hours sleep last night and have no idea how I'm going to last at work til 6pm this evening Confused I have told my work as I had awful sickness last week so they have been understanding but I just want to stay home and sleep! x

AMM86 · 04/10/2021 06:33

@autumn321 nice to hear I’m not on my own with it. I woke up at 5 this morning feeling sick. Just about to get up now. I had one day off last week but my class are tricky and came back to having to deal with loads of behaviour from the day. I’m going to chat with the head today just to keep her in the loop that I’m really struggling. Our deputy head had a baby last year so she’s been really understanding!
What do you do?

autumn321 · 04/10/2021 06:39

@AMM86 I feel really nauseous this morning! That sounds like a good idea to talk to the head, anything to make things a bit easier for you! I'm in retail full time so it can be quite a physical job, it's more the long hours I know I'll struggle with!

Etonmess20 · 04/10/2021 06:54

@Positive21 I'm a couple of days behind you at 8+3 & I feel the exact same, I don't actually think it's likely we'll be getting morning sickness now from what I've read!
Interestingly, we also told some family at the weekend, including DPs mum & she said he (only boy out of 3 DC) was the only one she had no sickness with. How strange!!
I feel you on the exhaustion & sore boobs though!

Positive21 · 04/10/2021 07:07

@Etonmess20 I think we are very lucky but it does feel strange doesn't it! My sister had some with her second and third but my mum said she had none with all three of us! Bodies are strange, just have to keep remember every pregnancy is different 😅

Etonmess20 · 04/10/2021 07:28

@Positive21 yeah really bizarre & everyone we've told is like "bet you've been having a rough time of it". No, no I haven't 😂 I just nap now 😂 the only thing that makes me feel queasy is our 7am Saturday food shop (strange!)
That's the thing, some people clearly just don't get sick but you just expect that you will as it's the symptom everyone thinks of! We just need to be grateful I think!

LS2020 · 04/10/2021 10:27

@Positive21 @Etonmess20 hahahaha yes you do need to be grateful I’m glaring at you while stuffing my face with rich tea biscuits and third lie down of the day 😂😂

LS2020 · 04/10/2021 10:28

I’m flying to Greece a week on Thursday though so trying to keep my focus on that! Only 7 days more of work 🤞🏻

Positive21 · 04/10/2021 10:56

@Etonmess20 I have wretched at two things 😂 but that's it. I deffo consider myself lucky but like you say, it feels wrong 😅

@LS2020 hope it doesn't last for too much longer for you! I adore Greece, where are you going? X

Etonmess20 · 04/10/2021 11:14

@LS2020 sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish! Hope you feel better soon!

@Positive21 we must be the same person - the only thing that makes me wretch is going food shopping 😂 how weird is that?!

hewegoagain · 04/10/2021 12:09

@Etonmess20 and @Positive21 I was exactly the same with my first pregnancy (10 years ago) and this one seems to be going the same way. Currently 8+6 and aside from feeling s bit nauseous some days I've had no sickness or aversions whatsoever, and my morning walk with the dogs seems to help with any nausea too.

Fatigue is definitely a BIG problem though. I could sleep for the olimpics right now 😅 I live in Spain and tutor kids in English and I'm dreading dealing with a bunch of rowdy kids this afternoon. Sore boobs is my other bid problem, can't go braless at all now and can't get sleep on my belly either, I don't remember them being this sore last time 😔

Had anyone started looking at maternity clothes yet? I'm trying to hold out until after 12 week scan but my belly seems a bit bigger this time, possibly because second pregnancy, and an EMCS probably didn't do my muscles any good 😅. So definitely have a few cute bits already picked out to order after 28th.

Positive21 · 04/10/2021 12:40

@Etonmess20 deffo the same! I heaved when washing up a glass Tupperware yesterday 😂

@hewegoagain glad there's a few of us. I got a bit worried at first! Yes exhaustion is massive. My nipples were very sore, they've eased off a bit but still uncomfortable and my fiancé kindly told me yesterday "your nipple is way bigger" 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ thanks babe. Just the one of them? 🤦🏼‍♀️

hewegoagain · 04/10/2021 12:44

@Positive21 men are so useless during pregnancy 🤣 mines just as clueless now at 36 as he was at 26 😂

Positive21 · 04/10/2021 12:59

@hewegoagain he makes me laugh so much. He's quite chill considering he will be a first time sad at 38! But we've had an amazing time together before having children so no complaints. He was scared to give up the selfish bits of life which I totally get but we are both so excited to become parents.

He's also very black and white which sometimes is a gift because he calms me down. Other times is a bloody nightmare cause he's no good with sympathy 😂😂

LS2020 · 04/10/2021 13:23

@Positive21 me too! I’ve come off my sickness meds and seem to be managing okay still 🤞🏻Kos, we haven’t been before to Greece so looking forward to it ☺️

@Etonmess20 thanks lovely, hopefully won’t be much longer!! I hate food shopping too. All I want to buy is salt and vinegar crisps 😂

@hewegoagain I’ve got some maternity bits already, a set of two leggings, jeans and some tops as already so uncomfy and they are an absolute god send so I say go for it! I’m only 9 weeks today with my first and feel like I’ve popped out so much in last day or so

Sarah239 · 04/10/2021 13:50

@LS2020 I wonder what it is about salt and vinegar, because as soon as I read you mention them I had an instant craving 😅 Tucking into some salt and vinegar Walkers Squares now! They're delish!

hewegoagain · 04/10/2021 14:03

@Sarah239 I craved salt and vinegar with my DS as well, hate them normally, with my MC it was chicken wings, also normally not keen, and now it's fruit, especially grapes and peaches (although with grapes it's a craving for the texture of a really juicy green grape where you get that slight crunch of the skin before all the juice explodes out, hubby thinks I'm weird ,🤣). I wonder if there any truth in the old wives tale that sweet cravings mean girl and savoury for a boy?

@LS2020 I'm nearly living in legging at the moment 😅. I'm somewhat lucky that I have a big bum and thighs and a small waist, so most of my jeans are taken in at the waist, I've let them all out again and they'll do for a while. I'm worried about buying stuff and then finding out something is wrong at 12 weeks. I think MC has left me a little gun shy, I never had that sort of anxiety with DS.

@Positive21 yeah my hubs doesn't really do sympathy either and he was pretty useless after EMCS last time, he just doesn't know how to act or what to do 😕 he was great after MC do I'm hopeful for him being better this time around 😂

Babydreams135 · 04/10/2021 14:26

Afternoon ladies! How long does people feel reassured for. I had my scan yesterday at 8 and 4 and I swear the relief lasts one day max. How can I stop torturing myself? I actively look up horrible stories. I don’t know what I’m trying to achieve? It’s like my reading what can still go wrong I am somehow convincing myself so I will be less upset, which is RIDICULOUS!!!! I see it as a forgone conclusion. My poor husband is always positive and I feel like I’m Ruining it for him, won’t let him get excited at all. I’m 38 and this is first baby so don’t know i would of worried ten years ago like I do now, but I know so many people have healthy babies. Both my grans had their last at 49! When I read the stats at that age honestly it blows my mind how they done it. Have you ladies got any tips on how to survive through the anxiety? Xx

hewegoagain · 04/10/2021 15:27

@Babydreams135 Hi. Can't really help I'm afraid. I'm 36 so I can relate to the age anxiety, although I was more worried about conceiving really.

I decided not to go for early scans for exactly this reason. I imagine that the reassurance doesn't last very long.

I suffer from anxiety generally so try to be reasonable with myself and think 'csn I change this?'. Worrying about our babies in normal but in the long run, what will be will be and no amount of scans or worrying is going to change the fact that baby will be healthy, or they won't be.

I found these stats this morning that might be helpful, the risk of MC actually drops significantly at 8 weeks. I'm currently 8+6 after a MC in June so found this slight reassuring.

The overall probability of a pregnancy ending in miscarriage in the UK is:
25% at four weeks;
5% at eight weeks;
1.7% at 12 weeks;
0.5% at 16 weeks

I'm quite logic based so these number help me feel a bit more at ease 😅
