@Positive21 No date yet but I know when I went through my miscarriage in May, I didn’t get a dating scan through until the midwife applied for it when I went for my appointment. Of course I didn’t get to that scan last time! Managed to have the early scan at the EPAU on Monday but just so nervous now that something will go wrong between that and week 12. I’m sure it’s probably natural especially after a loss.

@Sanguinely I hope you do manage to get an earlier scan. I don’t know a lot about the healthcare system in the US but it does take a massive weight off your shoulders to know either way what’s going on

Is anyone else struggling to stay comfortable sleeping? I find I get aching shoulders from lying on my side all the time and get hip pain too
Highly recommended a pregnant pillow, it's been really helping me!

EastMidsGem · 30/09/2021 09:32

@msunflower I have got one and tried it last night but have to say my hips and shoulders felt worse than ever this morning although I did sleep through the night. Maybe I’m using it wrong if that’s possible!

@robyna I have been the same with nausea in that I’m not always actually being sick, just excessively salivating over the toilet and heaving (lovely isn’t it?!) I do find having a mid morning snack and mid afternoon snack helps a little but you can’t always tell when it’s going to strike! It must be difficult having to be in a classroom with it

👋 due May 10 ❤️

RT65 · 30/09/2021 09:53

@robyna

Anyone got any tips for nausea? 7+2 and feel awful, not actually throwing up but have stood over the toilet gagging. Ginger biscuits and salt and vinegar crisps are the only thing I can stomach at the moment. I haven't told work I'm pregnant yet as I've had 4 previous losses and can't go through telling people I've miscarried again if I do this time as it's too painful. I'm also a secondary school teacher and I have so many intuitive pupils especially a group in my year 11 class that have picked up on it but haven't said anything (they know I have issues with previous losses so they don't want to ask). I've got to leave for work very soon but can't get out of bed cause I feel so sick 😭
Have you tried crystalized ginger? It's a little cube of sugary stem ginger and if I suck one for a little while it seems to really help. It's pretty strong tasting but I'm only about 5 weeks and had a terrible car journey the day before I got my positive test - eating ginger and mints managed to get me though it! Maybe have one in breaks if you can't manage to eat them in front of your class?

Hope it helps!!

@fmac2987

👋 due May 10 ❤️
Welcome and congrats!
Hyggeandhugs · 30/09/2021 14:39

@robyna have you tried those acupressure travel bracelets? I've not needed them yet, but have them on order just in case!

Anyone else freezing at night? Between the not being able to fall asleep because I'm shivering like I'm in a snowstorm in a bikini and the waking with period-like cramps and getting up to check for blood, I'm knackered!! Even managed to wake up with a panic attack last night, just to add to fun... these hormones are not my friend 😴

aNewYorkerInLondon · 30/09/2021 15:19

@Hyggeandhugs - I'm either boiling or freezing - nothing in between. During the day I'm living in a light shirt plus a sweatshirt or jumper and maybe a throw blanket and at night its a light cotton nightgown, a light sheet, and two wool blankets at the foot of the bed. Throughout the night, I change from sheet only, to one blanket, to no covers at all, to all the covers, and back again. Yay hormones.

Bubbasmama2017 · 30/09/2021 15:21

@Hyggeandhugs yes I'm feeling cold a lot of the time! Thought it would be the opposite??

I've had to take the afternoon off today, every thing I smell makes me heave or sick and I'm so so tired! Hate feeling like this.
Got my scan on Saturday and praying all these symptoms are a good sign.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 30/09/2021 16:05

I'd love to hear everyone's unusual cravings. Mine is beef with pickles! I don't usually eat a lot of red meat, but all I want now is a cheese burger with pickles, salt beef with pickles, brisket with pickles... its so funny. My usual fish and chicken hold no appeal!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 30/09/2021 16:06

oh! and edamame! I can't get enough edamame

Bubbasmama2017 · 30/09/2021 16:32

@aNewYorkerInLondon my main craving is salty things like salt and vinegar snack a jack's. Also been eating a couple of apples a day!

Etonmess20 · 30/09/2021 16:52

@Bubbasmama2017 I'm craving all things salty as well! If it's salty, beige & carby I need it 😂

StinWom · 30/09/2021 17:45

I got my first midwife appointment yesterday! She had lots of questions on my medical history and listed all my future appointments/screening tests but there are so many I’m not sure I’ll remember everything 😄 She was very nice and answered all my questions, and they got blood and urine samples. She also checked my weight/height/bmi and my blood pressure, and didn’t tell me off for my high bmi (which was worrying me a bit). I do need higher dose of folic acid though and she gave me a letter for my gp but they’re taking their sweet time to get the prescription signed, I’m still waiting for it even though it was supposed to be ready today. Anyway, that comforted me a lot, it’s making everything feel more real now!

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 30/09/2021 18:16

My cravings are Ritz crackers and all the carbs and unhealthy food! I don't even want to know how many packets of crisps I eat in a day Blush

Completely gone off anything sweet and I had two sips of a cup of tea earlier and almost threw up 🤢

I'm still eating veggies but fruit is a definite NO from me at the minute!

EmilyMay89 · 30/09/2021 18:42

My cravings are carbs, carbs and more carbs!! I have a real thing about only wanting crunchy food

Bubbasmama2017 · 30/09/2021 20:25

@StinWom that's good to know. My BMI is on the higher side but it wasn't an issue when we were seeking IVF (didn't end up going down that route) so I'm hoping it won't be an issue for the midwife. I don't want to be told off when I can't do anything about it at the moment anyway!

Positive21 · 01/10/2021 07:21

Worst sleep ever. Didn’t fall off until 3.30/4am after getting into bed at 11.30 and I’m already awake again. The anxiety is real. Two and a bit hours to the scan. Just hope everything looks good x

SerendipitySunshine · 01/10/2021 07:54

Last night I noticed the tiniest bit of brown blood when wiping. I'm so petrified this is the start of a miscarriage. Does anyone have any experience of this please?

Bubbasmama2017 · 01/10/2021 10:46

@Positive21 good luck with the scan!
@serendipitysunshine I haven't had that before but I know a lot of friend's have, I would speak to the midwife if you're concerned

Etonmess20 · 01/10/2021 11:17

@Positive21 good luck for your scan 🙏🏼

@SerendipitySunshine I had a little bit of tinged brown discharge last Friday night that had gone completely by the Saturday morning. I too thought the worst & booked a private scan for the Saturday & then had my NHS scan on Monday & all is fine. Do you have any pain with it? Has it stopped this morning?

Positive21 · 01/10/2021 11:21

Baby bean is measuring exactly on my dates (8+3 due may 10th 💕) heart rate of 178bpm.

I am in awe of this little bean, hearing and seeing the heart beat was amazing. I feel so lucky 🥺💕

LS2020 · 01/10/2021 11:41

@Positive21 ahh I’ve been thinking of you this morning! What a fab update 🥰 hope you can get some sleep now!

Etonmess20 · 01/10/2021 12:02

@Positive21 so so happy for you! Hope you're feeling reassured now x

Sanguinely · 01/10/2021 12:17

@Hyggeandhugs @aNewYorkerInLondon @EastMidsGem Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions. I met with a wonderful midwife yesterday and she referred me to a private imaging center that offers affordable scans. Booked for Monday afternoon!

The midwife did not seem concerned about the bleeding I described (even the "chunks"), which was reassuring. And sure enough, when I retested about 6 hours ago I got my first very obvious dye stealer test. HCG seems to be rising! Until Monday comes around, I'm letting myself believe 100% that everything is coming along just fine.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 01/10/2021 12:24

@Sanguinely - I'm so, so pleased that you were able to find such a wonderful midwife and will be able to have a scan, and that you had such good strong test! Grin
