Hi all, couldn't see an April 2022 birth thread so thought I would start one.
I'm due mid April but need a dating scan to confirm as I have an irregular cycle.

@Epli I got this one - it's quite good though the battery life is not great.

Home Fetal Doppler, Pocket Baby... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0969W2SPQ?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

I should say that they advise these need to be used with real caution. hearing a heartbeat doesn't always mean all is OK and if movement patterns change you should still tell the midwife. Also it's worth listening to samples of the sound you're looking for online as sometimes people pick up the sound of the placenta rather than the foetus (placenta beats slower and more whooshy, baby is faster beat and more of a clackety noise like a train).

But if like me it just makes you smile hearing the heart beating away then it's worth it!

Hope you've all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to a brilliant, fun-filled, sleep-deprived 2022! Xx

wannabeamummysobad · 26/12/2021 13:36

Thanks @BrightSide1987! You too!!
It's all feeling so much more real now - feeling babu kick as we we sit on the sofa and DH reads a book x

Aria28 · 28/12/2021 13:22

Hello everyone. I haven't been here for a while! I wasn't getting email notifications so thought the chat had stopped but I was wrong! Sounds like everyone is doing well! I've been struggling a bit with sleep too, sleeping on my side hurting my hips! I've started to feel pretty anxious too, kinda out of the blue. And then I worry about being worried 🤦. Hope you all had lovely Christmases!

rosiej95 · 29/12/2021 10:12

Morning all
Hope you had a lovely Christmas 🎄

Now Christmas is over I think it's going to absolutely fly by until April! 🥰🙈
We built the nursery furniture yesterday while we have the time off work... I'm in love! I can't stop going in there! Still so much to do but im so exited haha

Also decided to start thinking about my hospital bag. 🙊
Anyone else feel like there over thinking everything? 😂
Im like have I got enough clothes for little one? Have I got the right sized nappies?
What else do I need? 😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️
All these things swimming through my head 😂🙈

BrightSide1987 · 29/12/2021 13:08

Yay for nursery prep @rosiej95 - my wife and I are painting and prepping ours today! Have gone into full nesting mode Grin
My mother in law bought me a ready made hospital bag which was really thoughtful - basically just have to add clothes! I can send you a list of contents if that'd be helpful?

Epli · 29/12/2021 15:16

@Aria28 I feel you, hip pain in the morning is a real b. I started doing some prenatal yoga, I will report if that helps ;).

I plan to order/buy majority of the big stuff (crib, pram, carrier) by the end of January. I've already bought/got gifted clothes and some swaddles. I've also started buying cosmetics/sanitary things for me & baby (like wash cloths, baby soap, nail cutters, sanitary pads for me etc.), every time I am shopping at Boots I just add something to my regular shopping, as those kind of things add up to quite a shocking number if bought at the same time.

decisionsincisions · 29/12/2021 15:34

Hi all, can I join in? Due 5th April. This will be an ELCS. To say I am nervous would be an understatement!! First birth ended up with emcs which was all quite traumatic. I know I can do it, the hospital is fabulous and everything will be calm and I know what to expect.

Started buying little bits here and there, nappies, wipes, nipple pads etc.

We also bought a new dresser which is the only thing we needed for the nursery.

My main concern is our finances!! A lot of outgoings at the minute which is fine with two salaries but once smp kicks in it will be a tight budget!! And I am already huge and struggling with sore hips/pelvis so don't imagine I will work anywhere close to 39weeks!

I'm going to go back and read the whole thread now. Best of luck to you all and hoping you are blooming well 😀

BrightSide1987 · 29/12/2021 15:44

Welcome and congrats @decisionsincisions! Lovely to hear about your plans - hope DC #2 birth is much calmer for you!

@Aria28 and @Epli I have had really bad overnight hip pain too - I've always been a side sleeper with no issue but it really gets me now so much be the change in weight distribution! I've bought one of those giant human sized pillows which I can straddle in bed and it does seem to help so might be worth a go!

Aria28 · 29/12/2021 18:23

Wow you all seem very prepared! I've bought nothing 😂. My plan is to make a list this week of all that's needed. Which is everything 😂. I did buy something on hypnobirthing just to understand it a bit more! Thanks for the hips tips, I have a pregnancy cushion but something that cushions the hips specifically may help! And i may try yoga too 🤔

shannonl26 · 29/12/2021 23:09

Hi all! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

I’ve not kept up with this chat recently I hope your all doing ok. I’ve just bought & moved into my first home so along with Christmas you can imagine how hectic life has been 😂

When are people starting maternity? I’m going off early at 30 weeks due to the nature of my job so works out At Feb 4th & I cannot believe how quickly it’s coming around!!

rosiej95 · 30/12/2021 06:48

Morning all

@Aria28 I brought a pillow from Amazon it's like a full length body one & I find it helps a lot with my hips. The only thing is tho because it's so big There's no chance of spooning my partner 😂 which I do miss 😂 I've been really suffering with restless legs at night time :/ tbh we have only brought most of the stuff now because Black Friday sales saved us a fortune 😂

@BrightSide1987 that sounds like an amazing present! Ooo yes please if you don't mind that would be so helpful ❤️
It makes it more real sorting out the nursery I recon 🙊 Allthough I'm sure between now & when little one is here I'll be tinkering in there so much 😂🥰

@Epli Ive been doing the same as you! Think it helps massively doing that.
Like you say builds it up without noticing it's breaking the bank

@decisionsincisions hi 👋
Smp is no fun 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 I'm self employed & sometimes wish I had an employed job with a cracking maternity package 😂

@shannonl26 we moved house before I fell pregnant I'll be honest hats off to you I could not do that whilst pregnant & having Christmas! 😂😂
Congratulations on your new home 🏡 what a way to enter the new year 🥰
I'll be going off at 36 weeks. im on my feet the whole time in my job & am trying to push it as close as possible so will finish the middle of March but will be going back end of august

decisionsincisions · 31/12/2021 08:54

@shannonl26

Merry Christmas to you too! That sounds hectic!! How amazing it will be to spend the start of your maternity getting settled into your new home! Lovely. Are you able to take some annual leave before you start your maternity? You know better than I - I am just thinking if using a couple weeks AL this side of mat leave might give you some extra time once baby is here. Good luck!!
BrightSide1987 · 06/01/2022 16:13

Happy new year all - it's going to be an exciting one for all of us!

Congrats on the new home @shannonl26 - you're all about the big life milestones this year! Health to enjoy. I'm so jealous about how early you're finishing - I've opted to finish at the end of March, just a week before my due date, but I've got a mostly home-based (at the moment anyway) desk job so didn't feel as risky going so late! I'm planning to take a week off in mid-Feb though and then use annual leave to go down to 4 days a week as the due date approaches because I'm reliably informed that I'll be knackered by then! Grin

@rosiej95 I'm struggling to post a picture of the contents list of the bag but it's this one from Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Packed-Hospital-Deluxe-Maternity-Newborn/dp/B085YC23GQ/ref=asc_df_B085YC23GQ/?hvlocphy=1006506&hvlocphy=1006506&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&hvptwo&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvnetw=g&hvadid=430901807263&hvadid=430901807263&hvpone&hvpone&hvlocint&hvlocint&ref&hvpos&hvpos&hvdev=c&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-923312375191&hvtargid=pla-923312375191&hvrand=7506815424605645097&hvrand=7506815424605645097&adgrpid=105482963652

Hope you're all keeping well and enjoying feeling lots of kicks and flutters - I'm enjoying these golden weeks while it doesn't feel like a kick in the ribs or the bladder!

Epli · 12/01/2022 18:24

How is everyone feeling? It feels like my bump is growing really fast now, like it is noticeably bigger than 3-4 days ago :D I am also starting to feel really uncomfortable, like 'a long haul flight on a Wizzair plane, in the middle seat between two rugby players'' uncomfortable :D.

PartridgeCoop · 12/01/2022 19:31

That sounds rough @Epli ! I hope the discomfort doesn't last.

I've been very quiet and lurky but things are going well I think! Baby kicking loads and feeling pretty well in myself.

I am a little nervous that I haven't seen a midwife since the booking appts (have had scans but no midwife or anything) - is everyone else the same? I'll be 28 weeks soon and I'm booked to see the midwife then, and finally do the bump measuring I've heard so much about! I have no clue if I'm big or small - feel huge but who knows!

Epli · 12/01/2022 20:02

I saw my midwife at week 25 and before I think ~week 17.

wannabeamummysobad · 12/01/2022 20:52

I'm doing okay thanks - had a scare where I felt very headachy but went to triage and they confirmed it was likely tension. Me and baby are doing great.

I'm 25 weeks today and still don't feel that big. I always expected to be massive with a massive bump! Saw midwife at 24 weeks and will see her again at 26 and 28 (I'm resus neg) - my fundal was tracking at 24cms at 23+6 so I'd say bang on. Interested to see the trajectory in my coming appointments.

PartridgeCoop · 12/01/2022 21:29

Aw I'm jealous of all the appointments! 25 weeks was cut because of covid (they told me that at the booking appt) and 16 weeks was changed to a phone call, so no one has measured me yet. I might get out the measuring tape and a YouTube video...!

BrightSide1987 · 12/01/2022 21:45

I've had no measurements yet (aside from scans) - got my 28 week appt with the midwife on Monday and that's when they start doing it apparently! So I don't think you've missed out on too much @PartridgeCoop

@Epli I'm not feeling too bad except after a big meal when I feel like I could pop! Not as much room as I used to have! But I definitely hear you with the growth spurt - feels like getting big now!

wannabeamummysobad · 12/01/2022 22:17

@PartridgeCoop if you aren't seeing the MW in person how are they checking your urine, CO2 levels, BP etc? Will you be offered GTT? Are you Rh-? If yes,
When will they take your bloods make up your batch? I was under the impression the first injection was at 28 weeks.

I guess maybe I'm lucky as all of my appointments have been in person. I thought that was standard tbh. Sure it's fine though- all trusts are different

PartridgeCoop · 12/01/2022 22:25

@BrightSide1987 that makes me feel better! I was worried it might just be me. I'm anxious and impatient but will be in for the 28 week appt soon so need to stop worrying 😊

@wannabeamummysobad they took BP and urine (but no bloods) at the 20 week scan. Not sure if they tested for protein or just a UTI? I am Rh+ so that bit's not an issue, thankfully.

I am not sure what GTT is?

It's my first so it's hard to know what's normal, but I do feel a bit like it's being left up to chance. It will be a full 20 weeks between the first in-person midwife appt and the second! Baby seems kicky and I feel pretty healthy though, so hopefully that's a good sign 🤞

rosiej95 · 13/01/2022 05:26

@BrightSide1987 Thankyou so much for that! I'm 27+5 so will get that sorted in the next couple of weeks 🥰
I also feel the same after a meal 😂 honestly feel like my belly couldn't stretch anymore then it has & then I remember baby's only going to get bigger 👀 😂

@PartridgeCoop how frustrating you've not seen anyone in person :/
Does that also mean you've not heard baby's heartbeat on the machines they use to listen?
I've had my 16 week a 25 week & also a 28 week All they do each time is test my wee do my blood pressure and ask if everything's ok, hopefully as time goes on you will see midwife in person a little more :)
I had my 28 week appointment yesturday & they measured my bump I also feel massive & was surprised when they said bump was measuring perfectly along the line they follow
Genuinely thought they would Be measuring above it 😂
GTT is the diabetes test - I got told I would need that at my booking appointment at 9 weeks as my bmi was 0.4 over 30 😳😂
Had mine last week and thankfully all came back normal

Baby is transverse atm & I genuinely think they are breaking my ribs! Woke up after sleeping on my left side & my gosh felt like they've been sat on my rib the whole time I've been asleep 🤦🏼‍♀️😂
Now it's 5am & they're having a little kicking party!
It's such a magical feeling 🥰🥰

How's everyone doing emotion wise?
I've found I've been more emotional 😂
I seem to have a day every now & then where the slightest little thing can set me off and im in tears 😂
Also have an occasional day where im not a people person & everyone annoys me 😂
Im also starting to feel everything's getting more real 👀 im going to do an antenatal class but I've also seen some are on YouTube as well so was going to give those a watch to get myself more prepared🙊

wannabeamummysobad · 13/01/2022 06:41

@PartridgeCoop this is my first too so my only reference point is me. Reading back my message I realise I was verbal vomiting my worries - sorry about that ☺️.

Since you are Rh+ I think it matters less. GTT is a glucose tolerance test - given to those with big/small measuring baby's, those who've gained lots of weight in pregnancy, those with gestational diabetes in previous pregnancy, those with glucose in their urine etc or in my case despite having none of the above being offered because of my ethnicity.

15 weeks to go! Other than a travel system and nursery furniture not sorted anything out. Gonna give myself a power 10 weeks to do it all. Despite all her kicking April seems so far away and it flaming isn't

BrightSide1987 · 13/01/2022 21:54

Ah @rosiej95 we're just one day apart on due dates! I'm 28 wks tomorrow. I definitely feel you on the emotional side - have been in tears over really silly things in recent weeks!

Hope bub moves for you soon so your ribs get a break! I can't get over how strong the kicks are now - still nothing painful but feels like my whole body shakes with some of them lol!
