Hi all, couldn't see an April 2022 birth thread so thought I would start one.
I'm due mid April but need a dating scan to confirm as I have an irregular cycle.

@Epli & @rosiej95 I think I’ll do the same. My scan is Monday so I’ll definitely pick up a few bits!

@wannabeamummysobad so sorry you went through that scary time! Everything is perfect though so that’s fantastic news ❤️ I won’t lie I’ve been checking in daily using my Doppler whilst suffering with covid. But will absolutely put it away once im feeling better. It’s just a nice bit of reassurance on my bad days whilst recovering!

How is everybody doing?

Epli · 16/11/2021 17:20

Guys I need help - my family will want to buy something for the baby and give it to when we visit for Christmas, so I am trying to figure out what clothes I will need (I'd rather they give me money and buy SH instead, but I suppose everyone wants to buys something cute for the baby...).

In the months of April - August, will I need something apart from sleepsuits/bodysuits? What I am specifically thinking about is:

  1. What do I need for walks (pram & carrier) at the beginning? Will I need some type of warmer suit to put on a bodysuit/sleepsuit when we go out or will I just wrap the baby in blanket or something similar?
  2. What about 2 piece (top & trouser) sets? Are they practical for a newborn, or better to ask for those in bigger sizes for later?

I was trying to find some clothe guides on YT but they have a lot of sponsored stuff, are very US centric or have ultra minimalist approach which is not really appealing to me (and also there was a video of Jason Momoa getting a custom, handmade suit on Saville Row which seemed more relevant somehow Grin). Help!

shannonl26 · 16/11/2021 18:09

@Epli I’m going to get an all in one for walks. Like a thick onesie & I do also have a few two piece sets in newborn size. My nephew who is only 12 weeks old has been in plenty of two piece sets & I’ve found it absolutely fine getting him in & out of them 😊

rosiej95 · 16/11/2021 22:27

@wannabeamummysobad what a stressful time for you! Glad to hear you got to see bubba tho 🥰

@shannonl26 all good here Thankyou how are you getting on now?

@Epli im no expert im just winging it 😂 but Ive picked up a couple of warm body suits & a Pram suit. I've only brought it in 0-3 tho because I thought just incase it's a bit fresh in April time I'd rather have it & not need it then not have it - im an over preparer (which is ironic considering were not finding out Sex 😂) Also not thinking baby will be early but picked them up just in case as think it can sometimes still be frosty in March
I've mainly got baby grows & vests but also have a couple of 2 piece sets :)
If we knew the gender I'd be buying more 2 piece sets I think there really cute 🥰

Dreambow · 17/11/2021 09:38

@Tallulahh3 thanks for the tips! I have booked my DH in with online personal shopper service for John Lewis! Probably only going to buy the uppababy Vista and a car seat on Black Friday, if there are discounts. Signed up to mamas and papas but they haven't sent me the pre-order discounts yet.

@shannonl26 so sorry you were not feeling well. Hopefully you and bump are ok now.

@wannabeamummysobad we ended up having a private scan in London at 11 weeks because I was eating like a horse and I wanted to check if we had twins. The private scan was lovely and they took their time! I want to have another one now as I am 18 weeks this Friday and we are planning to tell family when I am 19 weeks so before the 20 week scan but my DH thinks we should just wait for 20 week scan. That sounds so scary with the doppler- you poor thing. Glad everything worked out well :)

@rosiej95 wow can't believe you are nearly 20 weeks!! How exciting :) You must be so excited for the scan!

@Epli I have no idea about what they need clothes wise apart from sleep suits and blankets!

I am finding it difficult to sleep at the moment as I think you are supposed to try and sleep on the left side but I love sleeping on my tummy or back. Last night I slept on my back for most of the night and then woke up this morning all stressed out and had to use the doppler to make sure he was ok. Does anyone really know if it really matters how you sleep?

rosiej95 · 17/11/2021 10:45

@Dreambow I know it has gone so fast!
Have you got a pregnancy pillow?
I've been struggling with sleep so got the pillow out it helps because I feel then there's less chance of me going on my back (I'm a back sleeper too)
I think it's from a certain amount of weeks they say about not sleeping on your back but think it's a few weeks away. I'm just trying to get into the habit of side sleeping tho 😂 although I'll be honest... any sleep would be good 😂 I feel so tired in the day & then as soon as night time comes it's like bam! Wide awake 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

shannonl26 · 17/11/2021 11:09

@rosiej95 I’m definitely feeling better thank you. Still can’t believe your having a little surprise that is so exciting. I keep having dreams that I’ll go to me 20 week scan Monday (when I’ll be 19 weeks + 3 days) & they’ll say little girl is in fact little boy 😂

@Dreambow thank you. I keen waking up on my back also, which is very strange as I’m usually a side sleeper 😂 I have read that they like you to avoid sleeping on your back, I think something to do with the pressure can cause swelling or can put extra strain on the placenta? I’m not sure how true that is though it’s just what I saw in another thread.

sexesam · 17/11/2021 12:20

@Dreambow dont worry if you end up on your back. There will come a point where you do NOT want to lie on your back because it is uncomfortable as hell. That's when it's doing to restrict the blood flow to whichever part of your body it is that gets restricted (liver? Legs?) I can't remember. I was a front sleeper but I can't even lay on my stomach now. Pillows will help you adapt to a new way of sleeping though.

@Epli I would ask for larger sized clothes. That way people can get little outfits of they want and they may get more use out of them. And IMO a baby looks cuter in an outfit at 6m than at newborn. When they newborn they are more curled up and it looks less comfy. When they older and they can sit up or even stand up by themselves it look more normal. I agree that I would rather buy second hand though. You can get soooo much more for your money and babies don't put wear on anything!

BrightSide1987 · 17/11/2021 13:28

Oh goodness @wannabeamummysobad that sounds so stressful! Glad all turned out OK in the end but what a horrible experience.

I can totally relate to the anxiety - I've I've got my 20 week scan on Friday and I was really looking forward to it until this week when I've started to dread it in case they find something wrong. It's really hard to stay rational!

@shannonl26 hope you're feeling better! Also, I am totally the same as you and @rosiej95 in feeling a bit overwhelmed about all the things we need to start preparing! But at least with Black Friday and January sales coming up we've picked a good time of year to have babies Grin.

We've booked onto NCT courses too so hopefully we'll get some decent advice there too! In person, split over 3 weekends in Feb. It'll be good to meet some other local mums-to-be - all my friends are spread out across the country so will value that local network! We considered the council ones but they're all still online so opted for NCT as it's f2f (unless things deteriorate again!).

Tallulahh3 · 17/11/2021 16:32

Just having a little happy dance to myself because I’ve been panicking like mad as I haven’t felt kicks yet at 19+6. Had my 20 week scan today and all is well and saw him kicking away. They have confirmed an anterior placenta which is why I’m feeling nothing yet. Huge, huge relief!!!

rosiej95 · 17/11/2021 19:51

@shannonl26 glad to hear your better 🥰
It's getting harder haha especially when coming up with nursery decor ect
Haha private scans are usually pretty accurate arnt they? 😂 not much longer to wait for them to confirm haha

@BrightSide1987 I keep saying this to my boyfriend 😂
There's so much out there isn't there!

@Tallulahh3 congratulations! Glad to hear everything is well! :D
I have mine on Sunday I'm nervous but so exited 🥰

shannonl26 · 19/11/2021 15:35

@BrightSide1987 thank you! I was due to go back to work Monday but I do 12 hour shifts so I spoke to my boss today & we’ve agreed an extra week off so (hopefully) my symptoms will be fully gone by then! How exciting you’ve booked some classes. How did you go about booking them?

@rosiej95 I hope they’re accurate, I’ll let you know 😂 baby boy will be wearing a few pink outfits otherwise 😂

I really want a 4d scan done, has anyone else booked one? I’m not sure what week is best to go from? I’m 19 atm so I know too early I just like to book things in advance so I have stuff to look forward too haha!!

BrightSide1987 · 19/11/2021 16:33

That's good that your employer has been flexible @shannonl26! You deffo need to take the time to recover properly. Pregnancy is knackering enough without working 12 hr shifts when you're still ill!

I just Googled the NCT classes - you can put in your location and due date and then it matches you to the right sessions.

Had our 20 week scan today and all looking good! We didn't get good pics to take away because he was in an awkward position but hey ho! We know from NIPT it's a boy but sonographer said he would have said girl... he did find the evidence in the end but it was well hidden Grin

Also looks like I'm having a giant - his leg length is tracking 11 days ahead!

Have any of you felt movement yet? I think this morning was the first time I felt anything that definitely wasn't my tummy gurgling lol.

shannonl26 · 19/11/2021 16:54

@BrightSide1987 I’ll have a look into that thank you! How far gone are you now? Do they measure baby again at 20 week scan or do they keep the due date from 12 week scan regardless? :) wow 11 days haha! I feel flutters but nothing that makes me stop in my tracks 😂

BrightSide1987 · 19/11/2021 17:34

@shannonl26 they measure all the different bits of the baby - head, body and legs separately but didn't say anything about changing due date so think it's more to check that growth is all on track. So my little guy was measuring on track in the other areas, just had super long legs lol! It was really reassuring, you get a lot more detail than at 12 weeks because they're checking everything over.

I'm 20 weeks exactly today so halfway there!

When is your scan coming up? The flutters are exciting but it'll be good when there's something a bit more definite (at least until they are punching us in the bladder Wink).

RedRobin100 · 20/11/2021 07:48

Joining! Due 26 April but if last overdue baby anything to go by will probs be here in June..!

RedRobin100 · 20/11/2021 07:50

@shannonl26. Midwives told me they don’t often change original due dates following scans a unless they’re measuring more then 10 or so days out. None of it is an exact science anyway and it’s better to think of a “due period” rather than a specific date per se!

rosiej95 · 21/11/2021 03:55

@shannonl26 haha I'm sure it'll be fine 🤞🏻
I've had 4D scans included with my private scans I've had. It was early so wasn't much to see but Think because i feel like I've sort of had that experience we've chose not to have one, plus Because we're not finding out I don't want it to give anything away ha. Deffo think there worth doing tho if you want to see bubba before she's here ☺️

@BrightSide1987 I'm 20+1 & I've just had a few flutters here & there I'm exited for it to get more prominent tho 🥰
Aww a giant 🥰😂 are you & your partner tall?

@RedRobin100 hi 👋
I'm due 9th April but if this baby takes after there daddy I'm sure they'll be late too 🙄😂

Starting to think sleep is overrated atm 🤦🏼‍♀️
Been awake since 2 & just can't seem to go back off.
Got my 20 week scan today ☺️ I'm exited & nervous I still find it so surreal & magical that I have a baby boy or baby girl in my tummy & we're half way now...it's starting to feel more real 🥰🥰

Hi all, I've been struggling to get the link to the Facebook group on the first page to this post - maybe it's gone private? Anyone able to share a link with me?

shannonl26 · 22/11/2021 09:51

@BrightSide1987 my scan is today at 12! I’m 19 weeks & 3 days. I felt some stronger flutters over the weekend, could of even been kicks as they were more prominent than what I have been feeling! But it comes & goes depending where baby is! Can’t wait for it to be daily, until ofcourse like you said bladder is the target 😂 how are you?

@RedRobin100 welcome & congratulations! Thank you for that insight into the scans also!

@rosiej95 how did your scan go?! Did you resist the urge to find out boy or girl hahaha??

BrightSide1987 · 22/11/2021 11:32

Yay @shannonl26 good luck for the scan! It'll be so exciting to see her again - enjoy it!

@rosiej95 yes he's gonna be a skyscraper lol. I'm not that tall but the donor we used was 6'5"! We asked for characteristics similar to my wife (tall, brunette) but didn't quite clock how tall that was when we accepted. Hopefully he will slow down a little bit - but long legs is definitely better than a big head for the purposes of getting him out lol!

@RedRobin100 welcome and congrats!

shannonl26 · 22/11/2021 12:33

Scan went amazing ladies. Baby girl growing as she should be! Baby kept looking right at us it was so surreal I could burst with excitement!

They said I have a low lying placenta but I know how common that is I imagine it’ll be where it should be when baby girl is ready to come!

How is everyone feeling? I can’t believe how cold it’s gone, I’m not made for this weather 😂 however Christmas is my fave time of the year!

rosiej95 · 22/11/2021 13:05

@shannonl26 so pleased to hear your scan went well! I also got told I have an anterior placenta that's lying low so have another scan at 32 weeks :)
All well my end too baby wriggling about wouldn't sit still for a nice photo haha
We still don't know haha looking back on my 12 week scan though pretty sure I can see a boy nub 😂🙊🤷🏼‍♀️ but I've not a clue what I'm looking for 😂

@BrightSide1987 that is tall! 😍😍 Ha 100% agree with you on the long legs smaller head for getting him out 😂
I'm 1 of 3 siblings I'm the oldest & I was the longest out of us when born yet I'm now the smallest 😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️

BrightSide1987 · 22/11/2021 13:26

Ha @rosiej95 yep who knows where he'll end up! But I think it's safe to say he won't be in newborn clothes for long.

@shannonl26 so thrilled all went well for you! It's really the best feeling seeing them and knowing all is as it should be.

You're right about the cold - blooming freezing! Have started looking at winter coats. I was thinking of getting one that you can insert a panel into for when baby is here... then again it'll hopefully be starting to get warmer when they get here so am in two minds! I've just bought a bunch of maternity dresses on eBay too - this is deffo the last week I can get away with any of my normal wardrobe!
