Hi everyone 👋 I'm a bit late but hoping I can join in, was so pleased to find this group! I'm 19 weeks today, due 27th December but will be having a planned c-section so keeping fingers crossed for 21st December.

This is my second DC, we have a 4 year old DS who was an EMCS at 42+1, hence the planned c-section this time! Feeling a mixture of things, excited but quite nervous. I've got my 20 week scan next Monday & also a birth discussion a few days later so I can have some closure on my DS's traumatic birth. I think we're going to wait to find out the sex, we did find out with DS & this will probably be our last baby, so want to see what it's like to have the surprise! So tempting to find out though!

Anxiety is quite bad this time around but have been referred for mental health support & my midwife has been brilliant. One silly thing I keep worrying about (not helped by negative comments from others) is the fact I'll be having a baby near Christmas! People keep telling me they have relatives who hate their December birthdays, or that they would never want a baby round that time of year, or that we've planned it badly. So I keep playing it round in my head.

Congratulations to everyone 🙂 looking forward to getting to know you.

So I believe over the last few days I’m finally feeling him move! It doesn’t feel like gas anymore 😂 and watching my tummy it looks like it’s rolling.

It’s always around the same time too! Around 5pm it starts! Is that a thing this early?

Curlymam88 · 02/08/2021 17:36

@southernbelles my DDs birthday is 20th December and she doesn't mind it at all. We try to separate her birthday for Xmas with birthday balloons, banners, cake and presents. She doesn't mind it at all so I wouldn't listen to others who say different.

Thank you I appreciate that 🙂 I keep telling myself that it's what we make it, & if we don't make it an issue it won't be. I know that there are much bigger things to worry about but I think because I'm feeling so anxious I'm focusing in on things which aren't too scary to worry about!

lovebeingmum9 · 02/08/2021 17:59

@cheesepizza22 @LouLou0505 aw its lovely feeling those first movements its reassuring! I've been feeling the flutters from very early on and kicks and movements but he's become most active at night! from 10pm and sometimes I wake in the night and feel the kicks, can't see my belly move yet but I sometimes put the remote control on there and it jiggles about!
Hi @southernbelles
I had a traumatic birth with my second who had shoulder dystocia (both shoulders got stuck) at 42+1 But have had straight forward births since, but my anxiety was through the roof! hopefully knowing you will have a planned c section will give you a better experience than with emcs x
Our youngest sons birthday is 4th of December and this baby will be around 17th and think they will still have the best birthdays! And its the most magical wonderful time of the year and so special to bring a baby home for Christmas 😊

2020mission · 02/08/2021 18:04

I've had similar comments @southernbelles (I'm due 30th) - ignore them! I think there's quite a few positives with the time of year...

  • Likely to have their birthday off work if between Christmas and New Year when many businesses close
  • It's the happy festive period!
  • If it ends up in January, it means there's something nice happening in what's usually a quiet month. Once the Christmas decorations are down it can be replaced with birthday ones
  • We may be on to post Christmas/January sales for birthday presents
  • They won't be the oldest or youngest in their class at school either which can be good
  • It would be boring if everyone had birthdays at the same time of the year!

We can make it good 👍

2020mission · 02/08/2021 18:06

Also ladies I'm relieved I won't have a newborn in a heatwave like we've had recently 😅 skin to skin and snuggling with baby will be much nicer in winter!

burtle4 · 02/08/2021 19:01

@lovebeingmum9 congratulations on your scan and finding out your having a boy! Also welcome to all the newcomers!

I had my scan today and so relieved to say everything is as it should be (despite baby also being in an awkward position and having to do a lot of hip wiggling to get a better view of the heart!) It turns out we are also having a boy which is what I'd suspected all along! 💙💙💙💙

I do have to go back in three weeks for another scan though as part of my placenta might be covering the cervix. Not too worried as worst case I think it might mean c-section, best case it will move. I also have to have a glucose test for gestational diabetes as his tummy is on the bigger side but she said it was nothing to worry about, main thing is heart/brain/spine all look good 💙

lovebeingmum9 · 02/08/2021 19:17

@burtle4 yay congratulations on your boy 💙 glad your scan went well! Funny our baby had a big round belly lol but so have our other sons....I've never had the glucose test as I can't drink a glass of water all in one go without feeling/being sick so would be a waste of everyone's time for me to have one, its the one thing I turn down having in pregnancy! Will be nice to see baby again but hope your placenta moves x

Curlymam88 · 02/08/2021 19:24

@burtle4 glad your scan went well and congratulations on having a little boy 💙

JW2021 · 02/08/2021 19:33

So a question off topic where are you all located? I’m an ex pat originally from Southend now living in Florida 🌴🌞

burtle4 · 02/08/2021 22:11

@lovebeingmum9 that's interesting! Maybe it's a boy thing because I had to do a glucose test with my other son but not my daughter, they must all just have big fat bellies 😂 I'm useless at drinking a full glass of water too but don't remember having to do that last time, but then it was almost 10 years ago!!
@JW2021 must be lovely living in Florida! I'm south west UK x

lovebeingmum9 · 02/08/2021 22:42

@burtle4 haha 🤣 yeah our daughty was dainty whereas our boys were bruisers lol I think you have to drink a sweet sugary drink which I've been told tastes disgusting?
My eldest is 9 and they didn't do it then or I think with my 7yr old unless they forgot lol but because he was born big they assumed it could have been gestational diabetes but I don't think it was purely because of his size?
@JW2021 I'm south east uk x

burtle4 · 02/08/2021 22:51

@lovebeingmum9 my daughter was actually bigger than my son when she was born, although he quickly changed that and went off the charts and was on 99th percentile for everything, guessing this one will be the same!

jade0881 · 02/08/2021 23:16

@southernbelles hello welcome and congratulations. I'm 19w2d. Due Christmas Day. This is my 5th pregnancy(losing 2) I have 2 daughters and a son on the way. Such a shame u had a traumatic birth experience. I do hope this one will be less stressful for you. I've always given birth normally.
This is my first Christmas baby as my daughters were summer babies.
Don't listen to the negative comments. Having a baby at any given time is a blessing. No matter what. Why people have something to say I don't know. Try not to stress about that hun. We are all going through Christmas/December babies and are really looking forward to it x

Hi ladies! The thread moved fast. I was hit by norovirus yesterday so spent the day being sick and feeling terrible. Luckily I’m feeling better today, I couldn’t hack looking after my son whilst feeling that poorly!

Congrats to all who have found out and having lovely 20w scans! Mine is on thursday and I’m excited - intrigued to find out where my placenta is as I had anterior with my son but am feeling this baby a lot more so wonder if it’s the same!

@JW2021 not sure how percentiles work in the US but in the UK we have a graph and there’s 4 different variations. Say, 25th, 50th, 90th. It doesn’t matter which one baby sits on as long as they follow the curve if you know what I mean. My son when born dropped from 25th to 9th but he stayed quite happily on it so they weren’t too fussed. It’s just a way to plot how your baby grows in their own pattern. Sometimes your curve can jump up quite fast and it could be to position/size/extra fluid in the bump etc.

Group strep b can be very common and you can also have it diagnosed early and it clear up. You can get home tests they recommend about 37w so simply you know that you’ll need antibiotics. It’s only really dangerous if you don’t know and it can cause baby to be poorly. Don't panic though!

Everyone always laughs when I say I’m due near Xmas - it doesn’t fuss me really and I think really no one is defined by their birthday. I don’t go around saying I’m a summer baby! People love to give an opinion so next time ask them when their birthday is and make a remark about it 😂 ‘oh I HATE TO BE BORN IN APRIL cos it’s EASTER so much chocolate around’ or something sarcastic 😂

burtle4 · 03/08/2021 09:12

@tuxedocat sorry to hear you've been poorly, having norovirus is my worst nightmare, let alone when pregnant, I hate feeling and being sick! Hope no one else gets it x

LAR96 · 03/08/2021 11:23

@tuxedocat ahh no hope you feel better soon, let me know how your scan goes, I have mine on friday and have been thinking about where the placenta may be lay, But i have started feeling movements!

I feel down my stairs this morning!! Only the last 3 and fell on my back luckily, i rang my midwife and she saw me straight away and checked me and my little girl over, all ok luckily! Think I am getting a bit top heavy now and not used to it! x

burtle4 · 03/08/2021 13:16

Oh crikey @LAR96 🙈 go careful! Glad you're ok x

Theawkwardblonde · 03/08/2021 13:27

For those who have had their 20 week scans, what are they like? Do they look at loads of things?
If any of you didn't find out gender, did you tell them as soon as you went in so they didn't tell you? We are keen not to find out and keep it a surprise!

LAR96 · 03/08/2021 13:47

@burtle4 thank you! dont know how i managed it!

jade0881 · 03/08/2021 13:56

@tuxedocat oh no hun I hope your ok. No nice being ill when pregnant x keep us updated with everything hun x
