I am currently 10 weeks, has anyone bought their baby and little bits because I have Confused apparently it's bad luck but I don't think it would actually impact your pregnancy?

Peppercorn2021 · 13/07/2021 15:46

Just had my booking appointment. Definitely made it feel a bit more real which was nice! Feel like I've being walking around in a dream for the past 6 weeks. Roll on the scan! Star

Sleepyquest · 13/07/2021 16:35

@babyD20 some people are just cautious. I won't buy anything until after second scan I don't think but then again, I don't really need anything! My Dad refused to buy anything until I was born because he was very superstitious!

WinsAndNeedles · 13/07/2021 16:49

I'm just throwing this out there for all the hot drink guzzlers..... BOVRIL! It's a good source of vitamin B.

Lowkeyloopy · 13/07/2021 17:01

@babyD20 totally personal preference - I personally won’t be buying anything until after 20 weeks probably. Having had a MC, and generally being an anxious pessimist (!), I won’t have total confidence that two lines on a stick = real life baby for a while yet! I couldn’t stand to have a cupboard of baby clothes if there is no baby… But I’m just a worrier and not everyone is as silly!

I think for a lot of (not as anxious) friends, they waited anyway just because it still didn’t start feeling real into way later in the pregnancy.

babyD20 · 13/07/2021 17:16

My dating scan is in 2 weeks but I've had 2 scans already and seen baby!

Lowkeyloopy · 13/07/2021 17:25

@babyD20 That’s great! I saw mine too at 8 + 4 but definitely want to get through the vulnerable first trimester period before counting my chickens and buying stuff! It felt too early even checking out my work’s mat leave policy on the intranet yesterday, haha.

But if you want to buy stuff, that’s totally up to you - you don’t have to be as silly and superstitious as me!
@mswales that's very interesting. I think it's natural to want to err on the side of caution when it comes to babies but I've certainly got less cautious with each pregnancy. I'm definitely a dippy egg girl and a rare steak girl anyway!
Dippy eggs are allowed now!! Raw eggs also as long as red lion stamped - so relieved as a veggie carbonara is all I fancied at the beginning 😂 Also (and I can't stomach it yet) but sushi is allowed as long as it's been frozen before.

I'm also relaxed about a cup of coffee or a very small glass of wine here and there - have read the Emily Oster book also. So for example I'll have a small glass of champagne at a wedding

LKB89 · 13/07/2021 18:34

@WinsAndNeedles oooo the words rare steak made me gag 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm totally off meat!

Skybooks · 13/07/2021 20:28

Oh rare steak!!

I wont be buying anything for a while as I'm struggling to believe it's all going to be ok, but I did buy early with my first (and only successful) pregnancy.

Much like telling people, I believe you do what's right for you. Buying early and telling people before 12 weeks wont cause you to miscarry. It might kist give you keepsakes and support if it does happen.

Hi guys just found you all again! Was wondering why my posts still are being rejected.

I wanted to thanks for all the advice about the vaccine. I'm pro vaccines and this one and was going to get it, I hadn't seen a medical professional about the pregnancy at that point to wondered what others had been advised.

My husband had the vaccine the day before my appointment and checked with the dr there their stance and agreed I was fine to have it in the first trimester. So I attend for my appointment and am met with 'oh no's' and lots of mutters (this is in France and French is not my strongest language) end result was that I was refused the vaccine for this stage of pregnancy and they rebooked for September. I'm really grumpy about this as I want to be protected and France has just announced more restrictions for unvaccinated people.

Rmw99 · 14/07/2021 05:52

Ah man, went nearly a week without being sick and now this morning it's back with full force. Already had to change my tablets again. Hopefully it's just an off day but when will it stop 😩😩😩😩

Do you know which vaccines they were using?
Peachi82 · 14/07/2021 09:34

I am so sorry Pousscous that you encountered such difficulties!
I heard from a few Europe based friends that they have to jump through a few hoops to receive their vaccine when they are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Especially annoying when restrictions are tightened for those not being able to receive their vaccine. This is not fair :-(

My fetal doppler is supposed to come today. I'll be trying to listen for the baby later. I have my scan scheduled for tomorrow, so even if I can't find anything, I'll be seen tomorrow.

CNizzle · 14/07/2021 10:17

@pusscous that's a shame about them not wanting to give you the jab. I've been reading about the restrictions for non-vaccinated in France. Looks like they're being very strict.
I've been vaccinating here in the UK, and it's really been up to the mother, if they attend for their jab. Pfizer or moderna are recommended. Lots of ladies have attended at all stages of pregnancy. I was lucky and had mine early in the year because of my job.

overtherainbo · 14/07/2021 10:45

@CNizzle did you say you vaccinate people? I had mine when I was 4.5 weeks and noticed you didn't mention the one I have. I was given AstraZeneca, I'm nervous now 🙈

CNizzle · 14/07/2021 11:05

@overtherainbo the only reason in Scotland /UK Pfizer & moderna are recommended is because there's been larger scale studies done in America. Its just lack of figures that's all. Please please don't worry. Lots and lots of ladies have been succesfully vaccinated with a variety of vaccines. AZ is very similar to the regular flu jab which is acceptable during pregnancy.
current advice is to carry on with second dose same as the first, but speak to your healthcare professionals (GP, midwife etc.) if you are concerned.

Jenc1111 · 14/07/2021 11:45

@overtherainbo I was vaccinated with Astra Zeneca… first one pre pregnancy and second one at around 5 weeks pregnant. There was a midwife at my centre who had been doing vaccines and she spoke to me and said she’d done a lot of reading and had no concerns about the way the AZ vaccine was made to suggest that there would be any issues. Made me feel better.. although would have still gone ahead with my second vaccine even if I hadn’t spoken to her.

overtherainbo · 14/07/2021 12:13

Thank you @CNizzle and @Jenc1111

I had my first pre-vaccine (due to being high risk) then second 4.5 weeks pregnant (unknown) they did ask if there was chance of pregnancy and I said I doubted it with us trying 3 years.

I've tried looking it up but can't see much info on that one, thank you both for getting back to me 😅

Hope2022 · 14/07/2021 13:10

I had my first jab 2 weeks before conception but have delayed the second jab for the meanwhile.. I’m not sure about knowingly being pregnant and having it.. 6 years trying and mmc has made me air on the side of caution 🤷‍♀️

We had a private scan this morning, initially couldn’t see properly bcos of shadow of my bowel (thanks sluggish digestion) but was offered internal and it was amazing.. little baby was measuring a few days ahead so almost 10 weeks now and it was dancing and wriggling it’s arm and legs 💖
Was a little nervous when she couldn’t see properly but the internal meant a closer view 💖

CNizzle · 14/07/2021 13:26

@hope2022 that's so lovely about your scan.
I've got a private scan tomorrow. I'm very very nervous. Convinced it just won't be there.
We've been ttc so so many years that it's completely surreal and I'm struggling to believe it. I'm finding it hard to be positive just now.

Hope2022 · 14/07/2021 13:38

@CNizzle hope all goes ok tomorrow for you!!x

Sunshine8888 · 14/07/2021 13:43

@overtherainbo omg me too! The headaches are the worst!! They’re making me feel sick 🤢

Sunshine8888 · 14/07/2021 13:46

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 same here, I have a couple of cups of tea a day and past 12 weeks I would also have the occasional glass of champagne - did this with my first and my midwife was super relaxed. Had a scan today and all looks well at 10+3! Starting to feel more real. Will be booking in for first Pfizer vaccine at 13 weeks

Sunshine8888 · 14/07/2021 13:47

My due date has now become our wedding anniversary ❤️ Wouldn’t that be lovely!
