@whistlers glad it isn't just me!!

Just catching up on the new thread, thanks for starting it!

Whoever asked about symptoms subsiding at ten weeks, mine did just before. My Flo app today said it's normal for symptoms to subside at ten weeks and so you may notice you're not feeling ill. Placenta is meant to take over between 9-11 weeks or something and hcg starts to decrease as a result

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/07/2021 10:37

Just mentioning because I was worried, and put it on another group, and others said that was the time their symptoms started to really decrease also. Having said that I'm still really constipated and bloated and still queasy at times, but can now eat more and more variety

fleur89 · 13/07/2021 10:44
@choccrumpet yes I know what you mean - I’ve read before that no amount is safe, but NHS have always stuck by 200mg. She was saying it in a “bit off the press” way, and implying NHS advice would change. But think I will stick with my one coffee like you say!

@Sleepyquest ah lovely, I’m so excited to see them together! Although so tired that the thought of two does terrify me a little
I'm in Hong Kong and they told me no more than 200mg too, I'm at a private British clinic (full of British doctors and patients!) and they seem to follow nhs advice I'm British too, I just wanted some homely reassurance so chose this clinic haha!

Pre-pregnancy I would have a double shot Americano from my machine at home each day. I found out I was pregnant early (week 3) and immediately dropped to single shot. After a week or so of that, I dropped to single shot on days I felt super tired. Now I'm off coffee but I would probably enjoy one from time to time if I felt like it.

I don't drink tea anyway, have always stuck to herbal.... the advice about herbal tea is also confusing, my doctor said up to 4 cups a day is okay so long as it's not specific herbs ConfusedConfused I'm sticking to peppermint (bloating) and ginger (nausea).

Used to be a chocoholic but lost my sweet tooth recently! I guess that's a bonus haha! Craving croissants though!! Also gone off chicken, boiled eggs and cucumber- used to be diet staples!!

I read this is normal because our hormones peak around week 9 and then the placenta begins to take over.

Nausea for most people begins to subside thereafter and we should feel more spritely in the second trimester.

Who's had their vaccine? I'm booked for Saturday. I'll be 10w2d

LKB89 · 13/07/2021 11:38

I'm with the 'everything stinks'
Can't even open my fridge with a huge rancid whiff of food my OH just cannot smell 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Lowkeyloopy · 13/07/2021 11:42

Hi ladies, I’m happy to have found the new thread! 9+5 today, had an early scan at 8+4 and was very happy to see tiny bean there with a heartbeat moving its arms and legs! SUPER weird though - has anyone else found it hard to believe that it’s really happening inside of you? Blows my mind.

I was measuring 2 days ahead so hoping I’m actually at around 10 weeks.

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 and @babyD20, that’s really reassuring about your symptoms. I was never actually sick, but was very nauseous and dry heaving (nice) when my stomach was empty or if I smelled anything chemically. I still get that occasionally with really strong smells, and feel a teensy bit sick in the mornings and right before bed weirdly, but it’s eased off in the last week. Boobs also still tender, but not crazy tender like they were, and the bloat has also eased off. I get little moments of tiredness, but haven’t needed a nap since Saturday..

Fingers crossed this is just placenta taking over, but I can’t help worry a little that it’s a MMC and my body hasn’t totally worked it out yet. Hard to believe I can start feeling less pregnant while getting more pregnant, if that makes sense.

Nothing to do but wait until the scan at the end of the month I guess, but would be great to hear from anyone in the same boat!

whistlers · 13/07/2021 11:55

Ice lollies are really helpful for me by the way.

M&S do mini milk shaped fruit ice lollies which are nice and small and refreshing!

Last pregnancy I was obsessed with r whites ice lollies then the fuckers changed the recipe. I was devastated! They changed the recipe when I was around 38 weeks and most in need. Never forgiven them 🤣

Peachi82 · 13/07/2021 12:03

Still recovering from post jab headache. But it's getting better. Day 5 now though.

Nausea comes in waves. My poor son needs to come out of the toilet into a more ventilated room to get his bum wiped, can't stand the smell in the small downstairs toilet.
Very often I get nauseous with lack of food but once this started I cannot think of a single thing I want to eat.

IloveGod2 · 13/07/2021 12:04

Hi guys hope I can join. Just over 10 weeks and I cant stop spitting and I'm still vomiting. I pray it eases. I've had to take time off work. Have my scan in a 2 wks time. Excited but nervous due to 2 previous mc. I pray all our pregnancy will go well for us. Amen 🙏

CaramelWaferAndTea · 13/07/2021 12:05

Yes @whistlers ice lollies!

Fruit pastille ice lollies I swear are how I tolerate pregnancy.

I thought I’d been feeling a bit better than my last pregnancy but today got the tube into town and realised no, it’s just that I’m not exposing myself to public transport. Had to get off and sit with my mask off for a bit two thirds of the way. Urgh.

whistlers · 13/07/2021 12:10

Has anyone got any scan photos they want to share?

overtherainbo · 13/07/2021 12:23

Awww look at your little bean overtherainbo!

I have one from my first scan. If I still have an embryo with a heartbeat on Thursday, I'll share it. So worried that we loose another pregnancy :-(

whistlers · 13/07/2021 12:32

Annoyingly I can't add a photo! Will try later

choccrumpet · 13/07/2021 12:39

@whistlers I had my first dose around 3 weeks pregnant and waiting for an appointment for my second, will be in about 3 weeks time when I'll be 11 weeks.

@CaramelWaferAndTea I wfh and don't go out much and have noticed that although I'm nauseous it's bearable but whenever I go out for a walk or go out to do something it gets much worse! I've been spending so many weekends on my sofa recently 🤣

2under2howscary · 13/07/2021 12:49

Can I join? Due 4th February. Had a scan yesterday which showed 10 weeks plus 4. I had a coil in situ so big shock! Waiting to have a call back from doctors re seeing midwife to book in.

I have a 9.5 month old son, so will have 2 under 2!

whistlers · 13/07/2021 13:53

Ended up going to the vaccine walk in centre on a whim!

Half way vaccinated now!

apintofwine · 13/07/2021 13:56

Is anyone else still feeling very cold? Mid July and I just can’t get warm!

mswales · 13/07/2021 14:16
@apintofwine I haven't had my midwife appointment yet so don't know what she'll say about caffeine but I have read before that no amount of caffeine is considered safe (not sure if that wording is quite right) so maybe that's where she's coming from? Same as alcohol really, no amount is considered safe. I'm interested to hear what mine says. I'm continuing to have one coffee a day whether it's normal or decaf 🤷🏼‍♀️
Hi, 9+4 here with my second. I highly highly recommend a book by economist and data scientist Emily Oster which looks at all the actual studies the pregnancy recommendations are based on. So many of the recommendations are either based on poor data or the interpretations and narratives around the data are really flawed. On alcohol, no study has ever shown that moderate drinking in pregnancy is harmful, though plenty have shown heavy drinking is harmful. Studies don't show the precise amount needed to cause harm (as it would be pretty unethical to set about it finding that out!). The fact that we don't know how much is safe leaves medical professionals to recommend avoiding alcohol during pregnancy altogether, and then that has been twisted into the idea that no amount is safe. Actually there is no evidence to even suggest moderate drinking is unsafe.

On caffeine some studies have found a correlation between high caffeine consumption and miscarriage but there are various possible reasons for that, one being that women who are nauseous are less likely to miscarry and also less likely to drink a lot of coffee as its a strong taste. One study which found a link between caffeine and miscarriage neglected to mention that a majority of the women had also taken cocaine! And that is a study cited by the NHS, unbelievably. As we don't know the definitive reason for the correlation the recommendation is to avoid high consumption.

So yes this book is the best pregnancy book I ever read by a million miles. It's called Expecting Better, you can find out. More about it here: www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/books/2013/sep/19/expecting-more-emily-oster-review

whistlers · 13/07/2021 14:44

I boil the alcohol thing down to this, no amount of alcohol is safe for anyone, it's ethanol. Alcohol crosses the placenta, so the baby will be affected even by one glass.

It's not something I want to inflict on a baby!

Caffeine I'm more blasé about.

Hope2022 · 13/07/2021 14:52

@overtherainbo lovely scan pictures!

@CaramelWaferAndTea @whistlers I’m usually an ice cream girl but recently I’m all for ice lollies 😊

@apintofwine I’m definitely not cold 🥶 In fact I’m so hot it’s driving me mad 😡

WinsAndNeedles · 13/07/2021 14:59

@mswales that's very interesting. I think it's natural to want to err on the side of caution when it comes to babies but I've certainly got less cautious with each pregnancy. I'm definitely a dippy egg girl and a rare steak girl anyway!

WinsAndNeedles · 13/07/2021 15:00

@overtherainbo 😍
