Does anyone know the combined test you can get at 12 weeks where they measure the back of baby's neck and you have a blood test I believe, will I find out that day if baby is okay or will we have to wait a few days to find out the results from that scan? So unsure this is my first baby and have no clue of the procedure!

Jellybean8 · 25/07/2021 18:54

@babyD20 they'll probably tell you the nunchal measurement during the scan but the results from the combined test are sent to you in a letter after they've calculated risk based on all the factors including measurement, bloods, age etc. That's how it works in my area anyway x

Trinacham · 25/07/2021 19:00

@babyD20 I had that screening on Friday. No, didn't find out at the time (only the NT measurement and whether there is a nasal bone or not) but have to await overall risk rating until they look at the bloods. I'm hoping it isn't a long wait!

babyD20 · 25/07/2021 19:06

If the measurements are okay can you tell people or do you have to wait for the letter? :)

overtherainbo · 25/07/2021 19:52

@feb2022 definitely definitely definitely get checked. It could come back that you're absolutely fine but it's worth the check, I paid £10 extra for the in depth check up and I'm so glad I did

Jellybean8 · 25/07/2021 20:06

@babyD20 it's a really personal choice about whenever you tell people and I suppose it depends on what your decision would be if they found a chromosomal abnormality. Personally I'm having the NIPT privately so I have as near to definite answer as possible, and likely then to still wait until around 16 weeks before telling people. Some people tell people straight away. It's a very personal choice and depends on your rationale for telling/not telling people. I've had previous losses so I'm very cautious this time around (some might say over cautious) but it's helping me get through x

whistlers · 25/07/2021 20:10

I'm in the cautious camp but it's a second pregnancy and I'm more private about everything these days.

I told everyone at 10 weeks with my first.

Trinacham · 25/07/2021 20:14

@babyD20 My NT was on the high end of normal so I told a few more close relatives, but not telling a lot of people still, as it was on the higher end (they didn't say this but I've been googling, and it sounds like it is on the 85th percentile), I'd like to wait for the blood results first.

CaramelWaferAndTea · 25/07/2021 20:25

Just catching up. I've felt really unwell with nausea and migraines - kept on taking sumatriptan but still not great, and taking ondansetron for sickness which makes me instantly constipated. It's becoming harder and harder to hide the extent of these symptoms - went to a hen do yesterday and it was torture!

@Jellybean8 I'm also having NIPT next week when I'm 10 weeks - had it for my first and I think we really enjoyed knowing the sex from 12 weeks as well as having a bit more certainty (although my combined screening risk was even lower than NIPT). Like you, I want to wait until the results of that test before telling anyone about the pregnancy, as I am confident if there was anything that came up we would end the pregnancy and I probably wouldn't want to discuss that widely or at all really.

SR092 · 25/07/2021 20:38

@JourneyToParenthood @becarefuloutthere also got a due date of 22/02/2022! Also first time, Had an early scan at 8 weeks and that’s where they estimated our due date! Got my 12 week scan on 9th august, so counting down the days! Not many symptoms here either, but getting a bump already!

Jellybean8 · 25/07/2021 20:43

@caramelwaferandtea I've got mine booked for next week when I'll be 10 weeks too. Do you remember how long the results took for yours last time? And how they communicate the results with you? We're going away a few days after for a week and I'm wondering whether it'll be a letter waiting for me when I get back

becarefuloutthere · 25/07/2021 21:54

@SR092 yay due date triplets! I had an early scan at 8 weeks too but that's part of Ivf, they have to see a heartbeat and then you get discharged. Knew my due date cos of egg collection and fertilisation day. Ooh yours is 2 days before mine, really hope it goes well! I'm getting a bump too, it's crazy!! Are you getting nausea? Mines on n off now.

CNMP · 25/07/2021 23:01

@feb2022 Unfortunately I’ve been a migraine sufferer since puberty so as soon as I found out I was pregnant I checked with my Dr if I could continue with migraleve. He said I could but I have since decided I want to only take if absolutely necessary. I just don’t like the idea of taking it and potentially risking my baby, even though my dr said it would be okay 🤦🏼‍♀️ I would definitely speak to your midwife or dr, with migraines they can really impact your life and it’s not something you want to battle when you should be enjoying pregnancy xx

SR092 · 26/07/2021 08:14

@becarefuloutthere aww mine was because I’d had a little bit of spotting and a previous miscarriage, but it was such a relief to see the little bean! I’m guessing the bump is mainly bloat but it’s getting harder to hide! I’ve had a bit of nausea, and sore boobs, I’ve already had to buy new bras 😂

Hope2022 · 26/07/2021 08:38

Good morning ladies! And welcome & congratulations newbies! 🎉

All this talk of NIPT tests makes me feel I should have looked into this.. last time we just did the scan and bloods that NHS offered but I was 7 years younger and didn’t fall into the risk age group.. I’d love the extra reassurance and to know the sex early so it’s tempting… 🤔☺️

I’m 11+4 today and the last few days have felt exhausted by 7pm!! 😱😴😴😴
Ive managed to do more in the days, it’s a lush feeling to finally clean the house properly but man it’s exhausting, I need to sit down after cleaning for half hour 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Hope you’re all doing ok ladies!!xxxx

Rmw99 · 26/07/2021 12:12

Is NIPT something they offer through the NHS? I know we have the usual scan and blood test to check for things but never heard of NIPT before.

My scan is tomorrow, i haven't slept in 3 nights because I'm so bloody nervous xx

GiniM · 26/07/2021 12:27

Hi all,

hope everyone is doing alright. I am not feeling like shit for the first time in many weeks, so I am vaguely optimistic (I am at 12+5). EDD 1st of Feb.

I had my 12 week scan last Friday - amazing! The little one was moving so much, the sonographer told me to get up and jump around to calm it done so that she could do her measurements Smile.

I got my combined test results a few hours after the appointment and all was fine, so I am super relieved.

I wish everyone still waiting for their scan all the best - I completely understand the nervousness and impatience!!

Peachi82 · 26/07/2021 12:39

@Rmw99
As far as I understand some trusts offer NIPT when the results from the combined test comes back as high risk.

Peachi82 · 26/07/2021 12:41

I've not been feeling too well over the weekend. First non stop nauseous, then I couldn't deal with my mental health. And today it's both.

Jellybean8 · 26/07/2021 12:49

@rmw99 the NIPT (or harmony test) is available privately for £300-£500 and is just a blood test from the mother, tests for chromosomal abnormalities and tells you the baby's gender if you opt to find out. Around 99% accurate.

CaramelWaferAndTea · 26/07/2021 13:23

@Jellybean8 I’m having mine at the fetal medicine centre in London, and last time they gave me a piece of paper just before the second scan two weeks after the first (it’s a package where they do NIPT with viability scan at 10 weeks and then a more detailed version of the NHS 12 week scan 2 weeks later for £400, it was very good - the profits go to research). I think they otherwise email them as they sent everything on by secure email too. Friends using other companies had emails I think.

@Hope2022 I’m exhausted too. On Friday I told work I had no childcare due to an emergency and went back to bed for the day which at least helped a little. Don’t remember this from the first time!

Rmw99 · 26/07/2021 13:46

Thanks ladies, good to know xx

I was going to get an NIPT privately, but my hospital (St Thomas in London) apparently has started doing them or something similar from June of this year. The results come back much quicker, although I don't know how it compares to the Harmony or SAFE test. Might be worth checking at your scan if they do it
Winterfellismyhome · 26/07/2021 14:03

Had my 12 week scan and little one is doing just fine. Been re dated to 11+4 so need to go back so the sonographer can get all the measurements she needs but very happy to hear the heartbeat

choccrumpet · 26/07/2021 14:59

@Winterfellismyhome my scan will be when I will be around 11+3, similarly to you. Are there some things they aren't able to get around that time vs closer to 12 weeks? I'm wondering whether I'll get called back in or will that be it. Either way I'll find out next week, I'm just being impatient 😅
