Just got back from the midwife and they want to do a sweep when I'm 40+1. Not sure whether to go ahead or not - seems quite close to the due date but maybe that's normal!

@Sweetpea12 I have packed a bit of everything in a spare bag to leave in the car just incase baby needs extra or less layers!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 16/07/2021 15:12

@Pinkroseuk I think 40+ 1 is quite normal.

I'm booked in for mine on 40+1 and had one in my last pregnancy at 40+2, my midwife then said they would like to do it as lose to the due date (but after) as possible and I was due on a Saturday so they got me in first thing on the Monday morning.

Pinkroseuk · 16/07/2021 15:27

Thanks @Warrickdaviesasplates that makes sense :)

Hospitals tend to like babies kept warm in my experience. They also loose heat easily.

Ds was born at end of June and at one point was wearing - a vest, long sleeve sleepsuit, cardigan and wooly hat. He was then wrapped in a towel, a blanket and had another blanket tucked around him.

Thanks, I'm up and showered and hoping to make a speedy escape tomorrow.

Hey all! My little one decided to make an appearance 2 days early - 12th July.

The birth actually went really well - used hypnobirthing and the pool and only had 2 paracetamol and that was it - so for anyone absolutely terrified like I was I can now say from experience my birth was actually really positive and please try not to worry too much like I did. I know everyone is totally different but just wanted to put it out there for other first timers like myself.
Our surprise was a little girl - 7lb6oz :)

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 17/07/2021 09:35

Congratulations @TiredAlreadyOhDear and @Fartymcfart how lovely!

Grace, I didn’t notice my mucus plus with any of my other pregnancies except the last one and this one, last time I had a big show (but not bloody) and it was weeks later did was born. I remember having a sweep at about 39 weeks with him and there was more of a bloody show, and my waters broke the next day.

Not feeling like much is happening, very achey but I’ve decided to try and stop symptom spotting!

Kg87 · 17/07/2021 09:58

@HumunaHey ahh there hasn’t been too many bowel movements but they are quite sudden! I’m wondering if that’s more to do with lack of room in there 😂

Anyone else feel like they did 9 months ago where you’re (impatiently) waiting to get pregnant but you just don’t know when it’s going to happen? At least we know the end is in sight here, albeit a hot, sweaty and uncomfortable end!

CoffeeAndCaramel · 17/07/2021 10:10

Congratulations @TiredAlreadyOhDear amazing news!!

Anybody else feeling like they just wanna rip their skin off now? 😂 this head is absolutely vile!!

Spent the evening at maternity triage last night, thought my waters went ( pants felt super wet sorry tmi) after an examination it was confirmed it's just increased discharge, was a bit disappointed as I'm due Wednesday and keen for things to start moving!

How's all the new mums doing? Xx

Mummy2O · 17/07/2021 10:12

Congratulations to both @Fartymcfart and @TiredAlreadyOhDear! Welcome to your little ones.

sakura1982 · 17/07/2021 10:26

Congratulations to all the new mums - enjoy the time in the baby bubble.
I have a c section planned for Wednesday, the baby is measuring 3.5 kg with Friday scan at 38 weeks. My first was 4.5 when finally arrived 9 d overdue.
No symptoms at all , I could stay pregnant for a bit longer.
The weather forecast is changing daily with 31 dc on the cards tomorrow. Hopefully by Wednesday it will cool down.
I am looking at baby monitors at Amazon-any recommendations? There are GHB and Hello baby brands coming at a good price and reviews pretty good. My sister in law had an audio only one and is going to lend us but I would also like the one with the video. Thank you !

In regards to baby monitor, we've been gifted with a motorola mbp 482 anxl by my SiL. It does the job well. Baby monitor last around 90min on battery. Screen res low but good enough to see and hear the little one. If on a budget would recommend.

Good luck with everything.

sakura1982 · 18/07/2021 22:22

Thank you so much for your advice @LadySB89 - I guess we will get it at the later stage when it’s needed.

My SiL’s broke ( two of them BT and Motorola ) but she doesn’t remember the model.

C section on Wednesday- it feels scary and exciting at the same time;-)

filledeberlin · 19/07/2021 04:49

Hi,on Tuesday just gone, exactly 40 weeks, I had a precipitate labour and my baby girl was born via emergency c section because it happened so quickly she didn’t have time to turn her head and she got stuck and in distress. I was in the hospital 4 nights and she is still in the special care baby unit. All the staff are so confident she is fine, she just needs help with her oxygen but the more time she is spending away from home, the more distressed I am getting. I went to bed crying, I’ve woken up crying. She is absolutely beautiful and I come out from the hospital on a high but then coming home without her is getting harder and harder.

filledeberlin · 19/07/2021 04:55

And if I could stress to anyone is that if triage ever try to say have a hot bath and try to relax and you can’t bear the pain, ignore, ignore, ignore, and go in. I was 9 cm dilated when I went in, the pain was unbearable but I was convinced they were going to send me home because that is literally what the midwife said to me, so begrudgingly, oh well come in then but we will likely send you home.

filledeberlin · 19/07/2021 04:56

Hot bath, I meant warm bath!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 19/07/2021 09:15

@filledeberlin congratulations on your baby! I can't imagine having had to leave my baby in the hospital bless you, have they said how long they think she needs to stay in?

Mummy2O · 19/07/2021 13:50

@filledeberlin Congratulations on the birth of your little one. I hope you are OK and that you both get to go home soon.

Sweetpea12 · 19/07/2021 15:56

HumunaHey · 19/07/2021 16:16

@filledeberlin Congratulations! Smile

Sorry that you're having such a tough time. I'm sure your baby is just fine as staff have said and you can take your little one hope for lots of cuddles very soon. In the meantime, she is in the best place to ensure she is fit and ready to go home. Fingers crossed for you!💐
