@Gilbertsaurus Congratulations!! Sorry you had such a scary time. I hope you are all doing OK.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 09/07/2021 17:17

I've been slow to this thread as well! Even more babies being born, I hope everyone is doing well.

@Foxglovesandlilacs86 sadly no, I tried to contact my midwife to arrange a home assessment and got a message back from the midwife hub (which is the number I had) saying that I'd need to discuss it with my midwife at my next appointment. I text back and said that my next appointment with her was at 40 weeks as she is on holiday for my 38 week appointment so can I have somebody else do the assessment or can someone advise me on how to proceed and I never got a text back.

So no home birth for me ☹️ disappointing but at least I'll still be able to have the baby in the midwife led unit if all goes well.

Quick update to say hiiii from our little girl who was born at 12.13 yesterday. All wisdom of first borns being slow went out the window for us! I went from waves of back pain between 6-10 15 minutes apart to contractions and needing to push every three minutes in the space of about 45 minutes. Got to the hospital at 11.55 and gave birth 13 minutes later after a very close call with the hospital car park.

Suffering from a third degree tear after baby girl decided to high five on the way out but so far not too painful. Would welcome any advice from those more experienced amongst us though!

Sending good luck to everyone still waiting!

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 10/07/2021 09:31

@Warrickdaviesasplates that’s terrible, keep trying to get in touch with them if a home birth is what you really want though!

@milkshakeandchips5 congratulations! Flowers and wow that is fast! Have you chosen a name yet x

Mummy2O · 10/07/2021 12:41

@milkshakeandchips5 Congratulations!! Hope you and baby are doing well. That is really fast!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/07/2021 15:35

Congratulations @milkshakeandchips5! Hopefully you will heal up nice and quickly!

@Warrickdaviesasplates is there no number you can phone and speak to an actual person?

Congratulations @milkshakeandchips5 Smile. I'm loving hearing these varied birth stories. I'm getting very impatient for my LO's arrival now.

Also, your user name has made me really want a strawberry milkshake and large fries from McDonalds. I'm fighting the urge to get DH to go to the nearest drive-thru!

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 10/07/2021 17:50

So lovely to see more babies being born but its making me more impatient to meet my little baby. Had a sweep today and midwife said it was successful, and wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be. Even though I know they often don't do a lot I'm finding myself feeling disappointed that nothings happened yet and its inky been a few hours!

@Warrickdaviesasplates I think I'd ring up again and try and speak to someone on the phone. Is there a way of contacting the home birth team directly?

Warrickdaviesasplates · 10/07/2021 18:27

Thanks @Foxglovesandlilacs86 @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE @FirstTimeMummy2021

The number that I sent a text to is supposedly the midwife hub, I'd assumed it was my own midwifes phone number as whenever I have called it nobody answered so thought she must be in appointments.

I actually didn't even know there was a home birth team as it really hadn't been discussed properly with me, which was also why I wanted to speak to someone. I thought I'd get the assessment and have the intention to have a home birth and then just be prepared to go to hospital if I changed my mind. We can drive to the hospital in 15 mins from my house so wouldn't have been too much of a problem.

I do have a midwife appointment on Thursday, but with a different midwife as mine is on holiday, so I'll try and call tomorrow to see if anything can be done so I can have a plan to discuss on the Thursday appointment.

Also @FirstTimeMummy2021 after my last sweep (previous pregnancy) I was told to do loads of walking to encourage contractions. In the end my waters broke after a bath, so maybe try that? Good luck!

Sweetpea12 · 10/07/2021 23:24

Hope everyone is keeping well here. Coming to the end of 38 weeks and the least wee thing is so sore I started having cramping in my stomach and back after being out short walks today. The nerves about actual labour pains are really kicking in now. Nice to hear of more babies being born that’s great news Smile

Mummy2O · 11/07/2021 15:36

I lost my plug this morning, no other signs as yet though. Baby had better stay put until my section on Thursday. Hmm

milkshakeandchips5 · 11/07/2021 15:57

For anyone who's more experience at this raising a human being thing... we did well at cracking breast feeding and baby has a great latch. It doesn't hurt when I'm feeding but my nipples are super sensitive and it does hurt latching her on.

Does anyone know if this is to be expected? I don't usually have someone sucking on my boobs quite so often so seems normal to expect some discomfort?

Mummy2O · 11/07/2021 16:08

@milkshakeandchips5 I found it really uncomfortable at first, but it soon got better. One day it just randomly felt fine and I never had an issue again. It was odd.

I'd recommend lansinoh nipple cream (or similar own brand) after every feed whilst you are feeling sensitive.

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 11/07/2021 16:32

Thanks @Warrickdaviesasplates
Have tried to stay active since my sweep, no real change yet. Have had some mild cramps but they just don't seem to be progressing to anything. My husband is convinced baby is on its way whereas I'm mentally prepared to need a 2nd sweep.

Can't advise much @milkshakeandchips5 as not yet fed a baby, but have been told the first few weeks are uncomfortable whilst you adjust but shouldn't be painful as such if that makes sense?!
Fingers crossed for you @Mummy20 ! I presume if things start then you'd have to go in quickly?

Mummy2O · 11/07/2021 16:55

@FirstTimeMummy2021 I gave the hospital a call and the midwife said to just keep an eye on it. It could be a sign of things starting though. I'm in for my pre-op tomorrow so feel better that someone will be seeing me then even if things don't progress.

Jellybean81 · 11/07/2021 21:42

Quick update to say that our baby girl arrived yesterday afternoon. It was very hard work - 35 hours labour including 12 hours on syntocin to end in a c section. Baby had managed to wedgE herself in so my cervix didn't fully dilate. She was a superstar and took it all in her stride, not getting distressed. Has been eating and sleeping well - I'm the exhausted and sore one!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 11/07/2021 22:02

Congratulations @Jellybean81 can’t believe how many babies are being born now….my due date Wednesday hopefully my little one doesn’t make me wait too long x

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 11/07/2021 22:06

Congratulations @Jellybean81! Take it easy!

Day 12 here and all going well. Keep feeling a bit like i maybe miss the build up of the pregnancy though! Then i remind myself of actually what a long hard slog it was!

OP posts:
Mummy2O · 11/07/2021 22:30

@jellybean81 Congratulations!! That sounds like a dramatic entrance in the end. Hope you are OK.

HumunaHey · 11/07/2021 22:55

Congratulations @jellybean81Smile. Sounds like a tough one! Hope you're able to get some decent restFlowersBrew.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 11/07/2021 23:07

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I can’t wait now for the baby to come - I’ve had a nice pregnancy and felt well touchwood but really looking forward to meeting my baby now. How are you feeling 12 days in? How are your other children feeling with the new arrival? X

PurpleCurtain · 11/07/2021 23:18

Our baby boy also arrived yesterday Smile Also had a hard time with syntocin induction following waters breaking, but thankfully just avoided a c section and his arrival was about 30 hours after my waters first broke...but very glad he's here!

Mummy2O · 11/07/2021 23:21

@PurpleCurtain Congratulations!! Hope you are OK. x

Sweetpea12 · 11/07/2021 23:32
