@pinkgin8

Baby boy born 9:15am today 💜
Congratulations 🥳 hope you and baby boy are doing well. I can't wait to have mine now x
pinkgin8 · 06/07/2021 17:00

Thank you!
I do believe the second sweep I had made it all happen, four hours in all from labour to delivery, although I believe the pain was much worse and whether it was also down the sweep I'm not sure! X

pinkgin8 · 06/07/2021 17:00

@TiredAlreadyOhDear Reuben 😁😊💜

That's good to hear, I've been hearing sweeps haven't worked. I'm due a sweep next week Monday and hoping it works, I'm ready for this baby
Mummy2O · 06/07/2021 17:36

@pinkgin8 Ruben is an absolutely gorgeous name. I love it. Hope you are OK.

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 06/07/2021 17:36

Congratulations @pinkgin8 Lovely name. And so good to hear you had a positive 2nd sweep. I've got one booked for the weekend if baby hasn't arrived by then. I am so ready for baby now!

pinkgin8 · 06/07/2021 17:59

@grace1989x aha! It definitely does something. I think some who have been unlucky with them and not had an effect say "it never ever works" but everyone is different and it did for me. Pains at 5am here by 9:15. Got to the hospital 7cm didn't even get chance to get into labour ward or a birth pool, came straight away!
I believe it made it quicker. Midwifes tried to tell me to stay at home, if I'd of listened to that I'd of given birth at home!
@Mummy2O thank you very much. I'm all good now that pains ended!
@FirstTimeMummy2021 I don't blame you! Fingers crossed it works for you! 🤞
Thank you 😊

PurpleCurtain · 06/07/2021 18:11

@Pinkgin8 ah wow, congrats!

I was due to have a first sweep yesterday but midwife tried and said she couldn't reach my cervix yet, so can't advise either way about whether it works! Have another next week so crossing my fingers he has either arrived by then or I can actually have one!

pinkgin8 · 06/07/2021 20:09

@PurpleCurtain you'll be surprised how quick your cervix can change in a week!
Second one might be the one for you like it was for me!

pinkgin8 · 06/07/2021 20:09

Or even the first could do it!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 06/07/2021 20:25

@pinkgin8 gorgeous name! I think we had the same due date….I’m so jealous you have your little man already! Hopefully not too much longer for me….39 weeks tomorrow! X

Jellybean81 · 06/07/2021 21:07

@pinkgin8 congrats on the new arrival! Wonderful the little ones are coming quickly now!
I've made it to 38 weeks which is a bit of a miracle considering drs were certain she'd arrive before 31 weeks - had steroids to mature lungs etc.
The irony is that I'm now booked in for an induction next Friday - I want a pool birth which won't be an option with the drip so would welcome ideas for getting things going. I have acupuncture and a sweep later this week, have been walking more - anything else work?

Vie8126 · 08/07/2021 11:23

How is everyone doing?? Congratulations to the additional babies that have joined! Hope mums and baby's are doing well.

37 weeks Saturday sweep booked for 20th July when I will be 38 weeks. Been getting lots and lots of period cramps under my bump not typical contractions/tightenings just dull aches. I never heard back re my late onset gdd test so assuming that's good news as they said I would only hear if I had diabetes but now stressed about the size of baby and dont see anyone until 38 weeks. Seeing as I'm already carrying a 39/40 week bump I can't imagine how uncomfortable I am going to be come then!! Hoping the dull aches and pains are a sign things are happening but at that stage I feel like I am going to be very pregnant for a very long time!

onanadventure · 08/07/2021 11:44

I didn't realise people were offered sweeps so early- earliest my midwife will offer is 40+3 (next appointment) tho I asked for one at my last one. Very ready for baby to arrive.

As an unrelated odd question - we've just put together our Silver Cross Wayfarer pram and the carry cot and it wobbles a tiny bit in the settings so when you put something (ie baby) in it it tilts a couple of mm... do all prams do this?
Our pram is second hand and was a gift from a neighbour so not expecting it in perfect condition - just want to make sure it's safe!

Otherwise we'll just use our carseat (it's a lie flat car seat) until bub is big enough for the sitting addition.

PurpleCurtain · 08/07/2021 11:54

@onanadventure... ours doesn't wobble (not a silvercross though) and I guess it depends how much it moves as to whether I'd be comfortable with it!

Think it's usual practice to not offer first sweep until "around" 40 weeks if it's your first baby. My midwife tried at my 39+3 appointment but couldn't reach my cervix yet so will try again at 40+3. Generally earlier sweeps seem to be for second+ babies or where induction is already booked in a little earlier than the more standard 10/14 days.

grace1989x · 08/07/2021 12:10

@onanadventure I'm having a sweep at 38 weeks for my second baby. I had a c section for my first baby and I want a VBAC so I'm having sweeps done to try encourage me going into labour naturally.

Having had a c section if they have to induce me there's not much room for things going a bit off plan. So I'm really hoping the sweep works, baby is measuring big so I'm sure she'll be ready.

And with the pram maybe trying taking out for a stroll see if it levels out.

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 08/07/2021 15:29

Hi everyone, I haven’t been on here for a while, life has just got in the way!

Glad to hear babies are being born safely, @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE congratulations 🥳 and glad he wasn’t too big for you.

Since I last posted I had a growth scan and the estimated weight at due date was 9 and a half pound so the consultant said I can have sweeps from 38 weeks and be induced on my due date if I want.

I’m really not up for being induced if I can help it (had the drip last time and I found it incredibly painful, but it was fast thank god) so just had my first sweep at 38 weeks! Cervix was favourable and had a bishops score of 7, it certainly felt like she did a thorough job Grin have a feeling it won’t make me go into labour soon though. Next one is at 39 weeks.

@Warrickdaviesasplates are you having your home birth x

Birthing ball excersises, will make baby go lower into your pelvis.
walking is good yes.
With the second sweep ask your midwife how far she manages to "stretch" your cervix. The more the better, mine managed 5cm and I was only 38 4 days

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 08/07/2021 17:18

@Jellybean81 sex is the only thing proven to work as far as I know! I think they just come when they’re ready though. I’m pretty sexually active through pregnancy even at the end and some of mine have been two weeks late! It didn’t make any difference for me personally.

Good luck! I also want a pool birth, I had water births with 6 of my 7 babies and it’s so much nicer! X

Jellybean81 · 08/07/2021 17:33

So many of us having sweeps! I've had a burst of energy today so have been organising and clearing space for steriliser etc Hopefully that's a positive sign and things will kick in tomorrow.
When I saw the obstetrician this week she recommended 2 sweeps a few days apart to get things going. Hopefully my midwife can see me Monday or Tuesday next week.
@Foxglovesandlilacs86 I've read that about sex, I've been on pelvic rest so long not sure I'll remember how! 🤣🤣
Will give the exercise ball a go and dancing/hip drops

Gilbertsaurus · 09/07/2021 05:47

My baby arrived yesterday at exactly 40 weeks Smile
Still in shock as labour progressed stupidly quickly and lost a lot of blood at home so was blue lighted straight to theatre and put under general for an emergency c-section as baby's heart rate was also very low. Really not what we had planned but at the end of the day I had a gorgeous healthy baby boy in my arms!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/07/2021 05:57

@Gilbertsaurus sorry you had a scary time but at least you and baby are safe! Congratulations x
