@Luckyelephant1 what’s GBS? 🙈

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 18/06/2021 09:56

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE is this a sign baby could be on the way?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/06/2021 10:34

Quite sure its a sign baby will appear within a couple of weeks Grin

Luckyelephant1 · 18/06/2021 10:57

@Mummy2O yeah I'm just about to order one. I know it can be transient but it was picked up that I had it about a year ago when I had a UTI so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

@TiredAlreadyOhDear GBS is group b strep. It's basically a bacteria that lots of women (and men) carry normally in their genitals (I think around 30%) and its usually harmless. But if you have it during childbirth it can spread to the baby and make them very ill so if you have it you're put on antibiotics during labour to prevent this. They don't routinely test for it in the UK on the NHS but lots of midwives recommend to test for it after around 35 weeks, you can order a home kit for around 40 quid which I'm planning to do today.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 18/06/2021 12:23

Wow @Luckyelephant1 I've never even heard of GBS! Is it something you pick up or is it something you either have or you don't?

Sounds like the end could be in sight for you @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE how exciting!

After getting the all clear on my placenta scan two weeks ago my midwife has now booked me in for an urgent scan on Tuesday as it seems the amount of fluid surrounding baby has shot up. She had real trouble feeling which way round the baby was at my appointment yesterday as there was so much fluid she couldn't get a good grip on the baby and felt like it could now be breech.

I'm not too concerned as I can feel almost constant kicking and the midwife found the heartbeat easily so that's set my mind at rest a little, although of course it's still a worry. I had a quick google and don't know if it's made me feel better or worse!

Luckyelephant1 · 18/06/2021 12:48

@Warrickdaviesasplates as far as I know you either have it or don't, but it can come and go. But you can't catch it or pass it on via sex or contact etc, it's not an STI. The only exception seems to be passing it on during birth. Definitely worth reading up on it, it's routinely tested in lots of other countries. I believe there's a few campaigns to have it routinely tested here in the UK.

tobeornottobe1 · 18/06/2021 14:41

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE that sounds promising! Reckon if it's the blood stained show it'll be sooner then few weeks, possibly days 🤞 , Im 35 weeks and have started losing my plug already, lil clumps at a time, experience tells me there is a lot
Of plug up there so im not going to worry about an early baby just yet! X

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/06/2021 18:37

Nothing else just a few BH. Being induced in 10 days!

pinkgin8 · 18/06/2021 18:50

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/06/2021 19:07

pinkgin8 · 18/06/2021 22:17

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE let us know what they say 🤞🤞xx

Vie8126 · 19/06/2021 07:41

34 weeks today for me but had regular strong BH last night every 8 minutes for a good few hours which made me panic about packing my bags etc and everything I DON'T have. I'm sure I have ages left as no signs and although took my breath away were just braxton.

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE ooh that sounds promising keep us posted!

PurpleCurtain · 19/06/2021 16:21

I am sooo hungry Confused Eating 5 full meals a day at the moment, about to have fish and chips as my meal between lunch and dinner... and I wonder why I've gained a lot of lbs and have all the stretch marks! But if I don't eat I feel super dizzy so I'm thinking it's currently the lesser of two evils.

Pleased to have got to 37 weeks... though think baby is still transverse in spite of temporarily having rotated for my midwife appt last week Hmm. I so hope it's not another 5 weeks of waiting, a couple of days and we should have everything sorted and be ready...ish!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 19/06/2021 16:27

@PurpleCurtain when do you next see mw? I dont think they leave people to go to 42 weeks with a transverse baby?

OP posts:
PurpleCurtain · 19/06/2021 17:41

@THATbasicsSNOWFLAKE... i see her again at 38 + 3, which is just over a week... will let her know middle of next week if he still seems transverse as she was adamant at my appointment this week that that was it now (he'd turned that morning...) and there's no way he'd turn back again. Obviously I might be completely wrong but it still feels like a bum on my far left and a head on my far right to me!

tobeornottobe1 · 21/06/2021 09:50

Hey everyone ,
Hope your all well, 35+4 today and have had constant period pains from last night.
Anyone else got this too?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 21/06/2021 10:02

@tobeornottobe1, i am 38+1 and have been having period pains / back ache / cramping on and off since about 36 weeks, if you are worried give your mw a call

OP posts:
tobeornottobe1 · 21/06/2021 10:18

Thanks @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I'm not worried just yet. I just can't deal with another potential 4 weeks of it! Just feeling sorry for myself really. How u feeling? U must be so ready for baby, are you doing any of the said things to help labour,,, pineapple, hot curry, long walks 🙄
X

Mummy2O · 21/06/2021 11:25

I've started my mat leave today. It all feels a bit more real now.

Mncrmum · 21/06/2021 11:55

Same! Going out for lunch with OH to celebrate ❤️

Jane1811 · 21/06/2021 14:16

Hi, lots happening here in this chat now - very exciting hearing all your updates! I am due on the very last day of July, so just turned 34 weeks on the weekend - anyone else due at the end of the month? Starting to all feel very real now! Have been in quarantine for the last 10 days as we went abroad to see my family before the baby arrives but it's our last day today and i can't wait to get out and go for a walk again - it's be a real pain not being able to get out and about. Have a midwife appointment tomorrow and looking forward to finding out what position baby is in!

@Mummy2O interesting about the home test kits - i might look in to ordering one of those as was reading about the GBS last night

Mummy2O · 21/06/2021 14:37

@Jane1811 I ordered mine from GroupBStrepTest.co.uk. It arrived really quickly. I am going to take it this week as I am just over 36 weeks.

Jane1811 · 21/06/2021 14:38

@Mummy2O fab thank you! & happy maternity leave!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 21/06/2021 14:50

Arghhhh so jealous of you all - I’m working until my due date haha! 🙈
