Congratulations @AyyX and @PlanBea on the arrivals of little ones.

My first was in the NICU for a little while, she is a healthy 4 year old now, so I know it can be scary but hope they are out and back with you soon xxx

Saltnsauceta · 08/05/2021 08:16

@theidealcat and anyone else nervous about birth - can I recommend the hypnobirthing book, make your birth better by siobhan Miller. There's lots in there to help you including breathing exercises and birth positions. She also talks about the influence of tv making us think giving birth is terrible and to surround ourselves with positive birth stories at this time. Also that we're the only species who doubt their ability to give birth and to fear it - how true. I can't say I'm excited but I definitely feel better!

Saltnsauceta · 08/05/2021 08:18

And congratulations to all the lovely babies born so far. It's very exciting to come on each day and catch up 🥳🤱

lucymagoo · 08/05/2021 11:37

Congrats @AyyX and @PlanBea such lovely news Star well done to you both

cem90 · 08/05/2021 12:29

Congratulations to all those who have had their arrivals so far, that's great news.
I'm only a tiny bit jealous lol - only 3 days over but so uncomfortable and so ready now! No real signs it's happening anytime soon either but know that doesn't always mean anything (with DD1 I had nothing until my waters broke and she then arrived 5 hours later)

Would/has anyone had a sweep done? I've been offered one and provisionally booked in on Monday for it at my midwife appointment but was completely against the idea a few weeks back as didn't want any intervention, now everyday I'm over I consider it more and more...

NightOwlMum · 08/05/2021 12:45

I’m supposedly due May 30th but I lost my plug last night. He’s kicking away in there so no worries and i know to call the labour line if anything else happens. My partner is busy painting our new flat and I’m still with my parents at home! All a bit of a rush as we only completed the sale 2 days ago. Maybe the stress of that is making baby early, or maybe 37 weeks is term for me! First time too.

PFin · 08/05/2021 13:25

@cem90 i had 2 sweeps donwle with my first. One at a 39 week miwife appointment and one day after my due date. Niether worked and they were awful. Personally, i dont think sweeps work unless your body is truely ready for labour and your body has already started doing things like changes to the cervix etc itself. Whereas I think my body wasnt ready or hadnt started to do anything, so the sweeps where pointless. I wont be getting a sweep this time unless im having labour signs and a sweep might quicken the process up.

3weekstogo · 09/05/2021 09:34

Morning all this is probably a stupid question but is 2 cabin size bags too much to take to the hospital 😂 I followed a list I got off the nhs there just seems to be so much stuff

CarryOnParenting · 09/05/2021 09:51

Morning. @3weekstogo I’m taking two bags, both kind of overnight stay sized. One with my stuff and the other with baby’s stuff and snacks. Seems like a lot of stuff to me too but last time I was I for a few days.

NightOwlMum · 09/05/2021 09:53

@3weekstogo I’ve got a cabin sized suitcase and a couple of tote bags - one for my hospital notes and one for the Bluetooth speaker.

HollyWell · 09/05/2021 10:04

I’m so glad someone else has asked this question, I thought I was going to look like such a berk carrying all of my stuff in! I’ve got a cabin sized case for me and a gym bag for the baby’s stuff. My husband has also packed the biggest bag of snacks you’ve ever seen so I’ve told him he’s got to leave them in the car! Grin I have really tried to pack only the essentials but there seem to be so many!!!

lucymagoo · 09/05/2021 10:31

I have a cabin bag for me and a backpack for the baby's things. My husband has yet to pack anything Grin

LittleTiger007 · 09/05/2021 10:44

I have an overnight bag, kind of ‘carry on’ sized for my stuff and a changing bag with the baby’s stuff in. There is a lot to take! I keep watching YouTube videos and finding new things to include! My latest addition is lactation cookies! 🤪 I figure even if they don’t work to help the milk then at least they are a snack!

OldFirstTimeMum · 09/05/2021 12:26

Hi Ladies, I have been having some more pronounced Braxton Hicks and last night I was so uncomfortable. Hopefully not too long to wait now! I have been playing a christian hypnobirthing app which I'm hoping will be really helpful for the labour and birth and reading the book 'Supernatural Childbirth' which is awesome.
I have a carry on case for me and a backpack/changing bag for the baby. My bag seems to mainly contain huge perineal icepacks! I also have lactation cookies @LittleTiger007. Hoping they help and snacks will be welcome when all we have is hospital food. My husband has the snacks for labour and delivery. Hoping we have some more births today in this group!

OldFirstTimeMum · 09/05/2021 12:40

Qu: how many nappies have you packed for a possible 2-3 day stay?

AyyX · 09/05/2021 12:52

Where have you guys bought lactation cookies from? I would like to get some. Tried to hand express this morning but nothing would come out. Baby is still in NICU and will be there for about 5days. Went to visit him this morning and he’s doing good, feeding very well and breathing has slowed (he was breathing very fast).

@OldFirstTimeMum I would bring a pack just in case, better to have more than less.

OldFirstTimeMum · 09/05/2021 13:02

hi @AyyX I got lactation cookies from Amazon. They were £10 for six packs so not cheap. The reviews say that they work though and taste good too.
I'm so sorry that your precious little one is still in the nicu but glad to hear that he is doing well. Thanks for the advice on nappies - will pack a pack!

LittleTiger007 · 09/05/2021 13:33

Amazon here too. I know we can shop now but I’m still staying home and using Amazon and other smaller companies for deliveries. I’ve got some fenugreek tablets to take too for lactation.
I was told that whilst in hospital babies don’t need as many nappies as they will get through when home. I was told to just pack 6-8. This may well be insufficient but I guess our husbands can bring more in? I don’t know what the current covid situation is for husband/partner visits. Does anyone know? I’m guessing it varies.

@AyyX so sorry to hear of your baby’s nicu stay. It’s good to hear that he’s doing well though. I hope you’re doing ok x Flowers

MotherPiglet · 09/05/2021 13:46

@littletiger my hospital restrictions are partners can be with you for up to 6 hours after birth and then 2 hours visiting pre booked per day.

I'm due 12th June but will be having a csection. My DS came 2 weeks early very quickly so if this baby is anything like his big brother he'll come around 29th May.

LittleTiger007 · 09/05/2021 13:50

Thanks @MotherPiglet that’s interesting and reassuring considering how things have been during the pandemic. Good luck with your little one ... maybe you will be having a May baby too! Flowers
