@YawnyOwl Did that make you feel better?

We used SMA, it doesn’t have the best reputation but we had no problems. It’s what we were given in the hospital so stuck with it. Quite a few friends like kendamil because it’s organic if that’s important to you.

MooreLew · 18/03/2021 19:50

@YawnyOwl will you quit? You don't know what medication she is on and it is none of your business. Honestly don't understand why you keep pushing this.

brushlaptop · 18/03/2021 20:05

I dont think anyone needs a reason to not breastfeed, it is literally a personal choice, but the only reason I think it's worth checking the meds thing is for the faff factor as washing and sterilising can be relentless on no sleep. That, or for the first few weeks you live on those ready to feed ones with their own teats and you just throw the lot away! I know some people who did that, cost a bomb but they didn't have the do any washing/sterilising!

Chelyanne · 18/03/2021 20:06

Not a huge difference other than price tbh.
Just pick one, if it agrees with baby stick with it. If not try others until you find one that does.

We went with C&G to start as it's one of the cheapest, it was fab for our son all the time. Our girls on the other hand were fine initially but as soon as they got ill (virals etc) they would have diarrhea and we had to swap them to soya formula. I've got the C&G starter bottles again for this one.

Chelyanne · 18/03/2021 20:14

@mumtobee22 don't feel like you need to explain your reasons for going with formula feeding to anyone.
You always get the "breast is best" crap, truth is "fed is best" whatever way you have or choose to do it.

Joeblack066 · 18/03/2021 20:15
@YawnyOwl Grin glad you said it first. The only food a baby needs
So the OP, who has clearly stated that she is on meds, is high jacked on her own post?
How mean can you be? 🤷‍♀️

Spudbyanyothername · 18/03/2021 20:16

I don’t think there is much difference between them, I’d go cheapest

Prioritiess · 18/03/2021 20:17

@mumtobee22

I would breastfeed *@YawnyOwl* only I take meds that make me unable to
I saw an ad for breastmilk the other day but I think it’s quite expensive
bleachblondemom · 18/03/2021 20:24

They are all the same so go for whichever one you can easily get and can afford. We get Aldi’s Mamia formula because that’s where we do our weekly shop, no other reason.

brushlaptop · 18/03/2021 20:25

I find the whole donated breast milk thing a bit weird for some reason. It doesn't make much sense really does it, since we all basically breastfeed from cows on a daily basis (via pasteurisation of course!) yet for some reason milk from another human freaks me out

Umbivalent · 18/03/2021 20:26

I would always choose an organic milk. In my day it was Hipp Organic.

xoxochellexoxo · 18/03/2021 20:27

Can i just say that FED IS BEST!!! Im planning to formula feed my son when he is born because its whats best for us as a family, even my own midwife wasnt judging me!! Its nobodys decision but your own

PolarnOPirate · 18/03/2021 20:31

@xoxochellexoxo that's good to hear your MW isn't pressuring you :) yay :) with my second child my midwives didn't even bat an eyelid at choosing formula. For my first the pressure to breastfeed was enormous!!

xoxochellexoxo · 18/03/2021 20:36

@PolarnOPirate She honestly didnt question my choice when it was talked about and then when we had the contraception after birth talk and when i said i was planning on going back on the pill she said i couldnt breastfeed on it anyway, but google says otherwise, either way its a personal choice how you feed your baby

lifestoooshort · 18/03/2021 20:41

I've used cow and gate with both my girls been fab - no problems at all and available everywhere

Lazypuppy · 18/03/2021 20:42

We went for aldi mamia as was the cheapest and can be swapped with aptamil easily for when we wanted the ready many bottles

1990shopefulftm · 18/03/2021 20:50

Cow and gate is the cheapest and easily accessible so I d try that first and switch if it doesn't suit baby for whatever reason.

It annoys me that people don't think that people might not be able to breastfeed because of a health condition rather than answering their question or respecting that it is a mums choice regardless of reason and they shouldn't belittle them for it.

Good for you OP for doing what you feel is best for you and baby.

daisyoranges · 18/03/2021 20:57

OP asks what the best newborn milk is and owl is correct, it’s breast milk.

That doesn’t mean people can’t make other choices but breast milk is best.

Inneedofanewwardrobe · 18/03/2021 20:59

OP then listed several formula brands so it was pretty fucking obvious what she meant.

Chelyanne · 18/03/2021 21:00

My 1st the midwife pushed me to keep trying to bf despite baby losing too much weight. I felt like a total failure because breast is best was pushed so hard. My mum whittered on about how she could fill a bottle with breast milk when I was a baby too which was "super helpful", people say dumb shit. Our 2nd the midwife told me to go to formula as our son lost over a pound in his 1st 5 days. With our 3rd I tried everything to improve milk supply but none of it worked, I had formula in ready though. Our twins I took the C&G starter packs in to hospital, if I couldn't feed a singleton there was no hope trying with 2 over 8lbers.
My body is good at growing big babies but totally crap at feeding them after birth.

brushlaptop · 18/03/2021 21:00

These are the ones I mean! No sterilising you put the whole thing in the bin when you are done! Expensive but potentially worth it for the first few weeks-

www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/283468059

Cow and gate have them for £2 less

www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/283467953

They are actually both made by the same parent company (Danone) so likely the same formulation

Umbivalent · 18/03/2021 21:00

OMG but pedants are tedious.
daisyoranges · 18/03/2021 21:01

It doesn’t change the fact that breast milk is best.

If cost is a consideration breast milk is free.

If convenience is a consideration breast milk is on hand (well, chest.)

If someone wants to formula feed then no problem. But pointing the above out might just help someone make a decision. Breastfeeding rates are terrible and it’s a shame.

Well done slow hand clap Banging on about BFing on a thread where someone medically cannot BF is a really considerate thing to do Hmm
crispychicken12 · 18/03/2021 21:04

I used SMA for my 4 month old, will be using it again for my newborn in august
