They're all the same. We used the Aldi one because it's significantly cheaper.

We had to swap between a few brands just prior to lockdown 1, and saw no I'll effects from doing that. They're interchangeable.

pinkywinks · 18/03/2021 18:54

OP we used Aptamil simply because that's what the hospital gave me to top him up with and I continued with it.

If we have another I will just pick the cheapest that also comes in ready made, cause I now realise they're all much the same!

Have you read where the OP said her medication means she cant breastfeed? Glad your boobies did such a fabulous job but that's not what the OP asked.

Twylar · 18/03/2021 18:56

Doesn't need to justify why she isn't breastfeeding. Doesn't need shitty replies about breast milk when she wants info on formula. Riddiculous.

thecognoscenti · 18/03/2021 18:57

It actually doesn't matter why someone doesn't breastfeed. They can choose not to for any reason or no reason.

thecognoscenti · 18/03/2021 18:57

Exactly!

Exactly. It's so tiring when women are expected to justify how they decide to nourish their baby.
MsChatterbox · 18/03/2021 18:59

Midwife told me to go for the cheapest as all highly regulated!

Aimee1987 · 18/03/2021 19:00

@Queenfreak

Whatever you can get at your local supermarket!
This. I used aptamil because the supermarket we shop at stocked it but so did the little co OP on my road so had an option if we needed some.
CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/03/2021 19:01

They are all the same nutritionally. Choose something readily available for ease of use. I think I used SMA as they only had the occasional bottle and didn't get through a tin before the recommended time and that came in smaller tins. Choose a brand that does ready mixed cartons too to make life easier. Boots do one time use, ready mixed and sterlised bottles of formula which although expensive are good for those first few nights when you are finding your feet. The kind they used to give you in hospital in days gone by but are no longer allowed to.

Aimee1987 · 18/03/2021 19:02

Also I'm sure other brands do this as well but with the aptamil ones you could buy a 4 pack of 200ml pre made feeds which were handy when we were out and about.

Cow and Gate?

May2021Mummy · 18/03/2021 19:03

@dementedpixie thanks I must have baby brain 😂

Professionalworrier · 18/03/2021 19:05

To add to my above comment about the OP saying she is on medication. She doesnt need to justify it at all but when she has given a reason and people still push breastfeeding it's even more unfair. They dont know how she feels about it. If she is on medication then she is looking after her health which is far more important to her baby than breastmilk ever will be.

dementedpixie · 18/03/2021 19:06

Although Cow and Gate and Aptamil have the same manufacturer but a very different price point

onedream · 18/03/2021 19:08

When I formula fed my firstborn I have used Hipp organic, my lo was never constipated as when on Aptamil so I would recommend Hipp organic if easily locally available to you..

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/03/2021 19:10

We also used Hipp Oraganic, Purely because it used the word organic 🤣. However, it was hard to find, especially during the crazy panic shopping. And out of 4 supermarkets by us only 1 had it

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/03/2021 19:11

@PippityChippity Other brands do those little bottles too, definitely cow and gate, SMA and Hipp just off the top of my head. My SIL found them invaluable for the first could of weeks.

@Inneedofanewwardrobe "bitches"?? Keep your misogynistic swears to yourself, thank you!

brushlaptop · 18/03/2021 19:30

They are all the same, get one that comes in a ready made format too and is in all the supermarkets. I believe aptamil to be the most readily available (abroad too, they have it in Europe particularly France if you go on hols and baggage gets lost or some similar nightmare!)

I would double check the meds thing as washing and sterilising bottles in the first few sleep deprived weeks is a lot more work than breastfeeding, but some women try breastfeeding and hate it so go for bottle anyway 🤷‍♀️ one size doesn't fit all

Inneedofanewwardrobe · 18/03/2021 19:34

You should be ashamed. Someone comes on here asking for formula recommendations and you respond with breast milk. Nasty.

brushlaptop · 18/03/2021 19:37

@OverTheRainbow88 we also weaned ours onto Hipp at 6 months but had the same problem in that hardly anywhere stocked it! I also liked the organic thing but I think I just fell for the marketing! 😂 Better to go with one readily available but I know people who swapped a few times due to reactions/constipation etc so maybe buy one box of 2 brands to start with incase the baby doesn't like the first one?

PippityChippity · 18/03/2021 19:40

@CeeceeBloomingdale Ahh that’s really good to know, I hadn’t seen these. Thank you! I’ll look in to these a bit more later on down the line. We are quite active and spend lots of time out walking etc so potentially a good option for us in times like these when baby arrives Smile

YawnyOwl · 18/03/2021 19:42

@Inneedofanewwardrobe mudslinging doesn't help OP. Who, btw, just asked for milk advice. Many people take meds and can breastfeed. Each person is different
