@SunnySideUp2020 STILL pregnant! Got another stretch & sweep today so fingers crossed that works this time.

How are you?

Leok83 · 03/03/2021 10:36

@SunnySideUp2020 I've been having the weirdest dreams alright!! A few with baby involved and me not having a clue what to do with him🤣 had one where I left him outside and slept through the night abs woke up in a a panic that I hadn't fed him all night (wasn't remotely concerned in my dream I'd left him outside😄) I also get recurrent tidal wave dreams when I get a bit anxious and I'm getting lots of them!!
Can't believe we're nearly there although still feels so far away!! cannot wait now..my feet have really swelled up with oedema in the last few days and can barely fit my shoes on😢 and the pain of them..I'm sooo ready now!
Next hospital appt won't be until I'm 39+5 so guessing there'll be no early sweeps for me!

@mlax so today's due day!! Hopefully the sweep does the trick!!🤞🤞

SunnySideUp2020 · 03/03/2021 10:56

@mlax Hopefully he is just punctual and will come soon 🙏

@Leok83
Yes same!!!! In my dreams i am useless at feeding, etc... completely lost 😅😅

Are you standing a lot? Oedema doesn't sound great but heard it s common towards the end 😐
Ask you DH to give you foot massage. I ask mine everyday. He must be so fed up by now...

I thought they d see you more often towards the end... but i guess if you had anything concerning you could just ring the mw.

I have mine tomorrow for check up.
And i know i have strep B test in 2 weeks (routine here). She will give me the exact date tomorrow.
And we are booking a private scan at 38 weeks just to make sure all is still good then (first time paranoid future parents!)

DH is off work now. Well jobless. But it was planned... so that we have time with the baby.
So we are now doing all the bits. Building furniture, will be doing next2me car seat pram equipment etc...

I am quite happy we are keeping busy tbh as i am worried it will start dragging from now on otherwise. So close yet so far as you were saying :)

Leok83 · 03/03/2021 12:24

@SunnySideUp2020 I've been standing a fair bit but moving..was doing lovely long walks but since Monday that's out the door now as I'm hobbling around on them😢 i feel so lazy now just sitting around all the time..plus also worried it's going to delay baby engaging! I said it at my appt and they were so unconcerned I almost felt silly for bringing it up but it's really become quite debilitating!! Have GP appt next week and the following one and if she's got concerns she'll send me back for hosp appts. But I definitely get the impression it's just something I've to deal with now! Have been getting the foot rubs too..I'd def say he's fed up of them 😂 Getting accupuncture tomorrow so hopefully that might help!

That's really good you get checked for strep B there routinely, I do worry here how they would actually know and it could be missed. Seems maternity care is definitely lacking in a lot of areas here but would have cost us about 4.5K euro to go private and that's with my health insurance so just seemed like such a massive expense for not much extra (don't think they even cover strep B with that either but they'd prob be more amenable if you asked about it). You wouldn't even get the private room you'd paid for as they're now kept for covid positive women.

That's lovely DH is off with you now, will he take much time off after the birth too? Will be lovely to get another scan too!!

Ejb86 · 03/03/2021 13:06

@SunnySideUp2020 nothing happening here yet.

scrumdiddly123 · 03/03/2021 21:48

@SunnySideUp2020 all ok here thanks, how are you? 2 more weeks and I’ll be full term- crazy! I’m literally enormous so goodness knows how I’ll get any bigger! Still getting to grips with my diabetes and new diet but so far managing to keep my blood sugars within range. Got 36 week scan and consultant appt next week which will be with my new diabetes consultant so writing a list of questions to take and ask about induction and extra checks baby will need after birth etc!
Sorry you’re struggling with swelling @Leok83 sounds really uncomfortable 😞
@mlax @Ejb86 hope things get moving soon x

SunnySideUp2020 · 04/03/2021 11:04

@Leok83 could you do the strep B test privately perhaps?

DH will be off until at least September i think or next year... depending on covid situation and what we plan on doing with our life
🥳

So my midwife wasn't keen on the scan for 38 weeks even though we would pay for it lol but she thinks unless there is an issue there is no point. Ok 😶

I have my strep B test next week actually. And she said if cervix favorable she will start offering sweeps from 39 weeks if my strep B comes back negative. If positive no sweeps.

@scrumdiddly123 it's good that you are keeping your sugar level under control. Hopefully no induction will be needed.

In my hospital the policy is 3 days stay after birth and if you give birth after midday it doesn't count as a day 😅 so effectively 4 days.
I find that incredibly long!!!

Leok83 · 04/03/2021 12:07

@SunnySideUp2020 I'm not sure..I'll have to ask my GP on Monday.
Wow that will be so lovely having DH off for so long! He won't miss out on any of the firsts like so many dads do (and mums!)
That does seem like a very long time to be kept in alright after birth! Here if all goes ok you can ask for an early discharge for 6-8 hours after the birth (Seems crazy short!) but otherwise it's generally 1 night after the birth and then home. I'm glad as DH not allowed in post natal ward..partners get kicked out after labour at the moment. Even with a section it's seems to only be a 2-3 night stay. Sister in law was out after 2 nights. Obviously those time frames are assuming all has gone ok. It's mad how different maternity care is between countries..you'd think it would be standard care everywhere.

SunnySideUp2020 · 04/03/2021 12:21

@Leok83 yeah but no.... it's so different. For instance they just started to mention to me the movements pattern etc. Very odd.
6 hours after birth is the other extreme 😁 but given your partner isn't allowed i think I'd rather be home if all was ok.
And that thing about no giving sweeps if strep B is positive... in UK i know they just do sweeps regardless.
Anyway, at the end of the day we just want a healthy baby and mum and be home in one (patched together) piece!

Ahh massive congrats @mlax 😍 He’s such a cutie pie! Hope you’re doing well lovey xx

mlax · 07/03/2021 11:33

Thankyou ladies 🥰

I'm ok now..! The birth wasn't the best to be honest. I mean it definitely wasn't traumatic but pain wise, epidural didn't work it failed so obviously wasn't a pain free labour like I was expecting 😂

He is just a dream. Finding it so hard to believe he's here and he's mine xx

Leok83 · 07/03/2021 20:37

Oh ouch @mlax! The epidural not working I'd imagine is worse than not opting for one at all..At least if you'd decided not to get an epidural you could have been mentally prepared for the pain! Glad to hear all is goo now though😊!xx

BecsterG · 07/03/2021 21:23

@mlax congratulations he's is absolutely perfect! X💙

mlax · 08/03/2021 06:51

Thankyou 🤍🤍

Would anyone be able to help me at all please? My milk supply has started coming through and my breasts are absolutely killing me. Nothing has come out of them yet (I'm not breastfeeding) but they're getting bigger and heavier and more sore as the days go on. Is there anything I can do to relieve the pain / pressure? I feel like this shouldn't be normal 😩

ChampooPapi · 08/03/2021 07:17

You need to suppress your milk if your not breast feeding @mlax. You must wear a bra day and night and not let baby near your breasts (I know it's hard because they are on your chest!). Do not stimulate them or touch then AT ALL. It will go down in less then 48 hours I imagine lovely

ChampooPapi · 08/03/2021 07:18

This is what I was told at the hospital when I had the twins ☺️

ChampooPapi · 08/03/2021 07:22

@mlax and take painkillers for sure every 4 hours, it will help and it will get better soon I promise.

mlax · 08/03/2021 11:04

Thankyou @ChampooPapi I've just started taking some paracetomol for them and DP just got me some cabbage leaves.

I've been wearing like a little flimsy bra is that suitable? It's not wired it's more of like a bra that you wear when you can't be bothered with a proper bra?

ChampooPapi · 08/03/2021 11:29

@mlax yes that's fine bra wise, but the cabbage leaves are probably best left off as I really think advise is not to touch your breast/stimulate them at all. I used cabbage leaves myself and yoghurt ect when I was breast feeding to sooth my swollen breasts, but if your suppressing the milk you really are supposed to just bra up and not touch them. I promise even in 24 hours you'll be amazed how they go down
