I would've too @Leok83, plus its only really a technicality if you are going to bubble with them once baby is here.

Mental health is as important as physical health, especially at this stage of pregnancy and the pandemic. Im losing the plot!

@fizzl due baby girl 😆 (almost kept it a secret myself!)

Fizzl · 20/02/2021 08:51

Ahh here everyone is! Sorry I keep going completely awol recently and I hadn't noticed there was a new thread so not been getting reminders to check (thought it had gone quiet 😂) - things just seem to have gone bonkers/busy and each day is just flying! I cant believe I'm over 22 weeks now it's going to fast and I still feel like there's so much to sort out!

I'll have to read back and try and catch up with how everyone is doing but I hope you're all ok.

@Leok83 sorry you're maternity leave didn't quite get off to the start you hoped for 😔

We're having a doggy dilemma too as our dog has also not been too great recently (partly why things feels quite busy for us I think!) and we're starting to prepare ourselves for her not being with us much longer. It's really hard. We obviously want to keep her forever and hope she's still got a few more years but she's nearly 14 and we also know that it's going to be tricky to care for her alongside a newborn (especially when she's up several times in the night and often needs emergency baths 😬). She's not in pain as far as we can tell, just getting really weak and wobbly so we don't think she's suffering yet and she still seems happy enough in herself. We're just taking it a day at a time and trying to gradually put things in place now to help her and us adjust a little better. She's been our baby for the past 6 years and we know she just wants to live out her older years in peace and quiet and we're about to turn her little world upside down and i actually feel quite bad for her 😔. My mum will look after her for a while for us but we don't really want that to be a long term solution as she's happier and more settled with us (minus a baby tho 😬) and it feels cruel to mess her around when she's already had so many previous owners. Dogs really know how to tug on your heartstrings don't they?!

Quick question - has anyone bought one of the bedside cribs? We're looking to get probably tutti bambini air or next2me. We also want one of the sensor monitors like angel care but apparently these aren't reliable when attached to your bed because it detects your breathing and they recommend the crib being placed away from your bed with the side up. I'm torn between attaching the crib to the bed and forking out £££ for the owlet monitor instead as I liked the idea of just being able to put my hand into the crib to try and settle her if just being fussy rather than taking her out or to just keep the crib slightly away from the bed and drop the side when I need to get to her? In which case the tutti bambini seems more of a faff to lower the side. It's such a minefield 🤯 doesn't help that we're trying to look at everything online whilst the shops are still closed.

Anyway, hope you all have a lovely weekend and I'll try and check back in a little more often

Fizzl · 20/02/2021 08:52

@SunnySideUp2020 haha if you did keep
It secret you would have done a much better job than we did! 😂 epic fail!

SunnySideUp2020 · 20/02/2021 09:18

@Fizzl

We have the next2me. No baby monitor. I will do the monitoring 😄 as it will be practically co sleeping...

SunnySideUp2020 · 20/02/2021 09:19

Re the dog aging... it's hard but you also need to think about yourself and prepare for when the baby comes. It might be a lot for you if you have to care for a newborn and a disabled dog.
Can't your mum adopt her? She can spend her old days at hers?

MayaMayim · 20/02/2021 09:28

Hello ladies! Smile I literally just joined the site 10 minutes ago, but have already noticed a trend in the responses. Everyone is so incredibly positive, supportive and sincere to one another! I was taken-aback at first (especially compared to local Facebook groups which aren’t always complimentary).

The tremendous respect and positivity Halo in all your posts is just so wonderful and encouraging for a pregnant first time mom with kidney issues. Thank you to all you wonderful ladies. You made my day! Flowers

mlax · 20/02/2021 09:29

@SunnySideUp2020 hey lovely. im feeling fed up now.. just ready to meet him! I know I'm still just under 2 weeks away from due date but yesterday I started with some aches and backache, turns out it's braxton hicks.. can't believe I've got this far to just experience them now!

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't trying all of the old wife's tales to try bring labour on naturally with drinking raspberry leaf tea, sex (though this is very much a chore than something we both enjoy now!), bouncing on my ball, small walks etc.

This was bump on Sunday and feel as though he's definitely dropped more since this 🤞 just hope with the BH starting so late it means he's going to make an appearance in the next few days! Really hoping I don't go over!!

How are you feeling?

Fizzl · 20/02/2021 09:31

@SunnySideUp2020 I know I have thought that too - do we really need a monitor if she's right next to me?! But then I hold my hands up and admit I'm completely unreasonably neurotic and not sure id sleep properly without a monitor 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm sure my mum would look after her for us permanently and if she really didn't take to the baby and it was making her unhappy/stressed it feels like the kindest thing to do for her as I just want her to be settled/happy in her old age. The only problem is I'd then feel bad for my mum because she hasn't signed up for caring for a very needy dog like we did 😂 don't get me wrong she loves dogs (always had one herself) and she does love our dog and does look after her for us but I think it's a big ask. My mum works full time and has to get up quite early so I'd feel bad if the dog had her up a lot during the night. At least me and my husband tag team with her and because he works shifts it kind of works out ok 90% of the time. I'm sure she'd probably say it's ok and she doesn't mind but I don't know. We'll have to see how it goes.

scrumdiddly123 · 20/02/2021 10:04

@Fizzl I had the angelcare monitor last time
For when he went in the cot (still in our room) but didn’t use anything in the co sleeper (we have a baby bay). I’m not planning on putting her down much for the first few weeks so she’ll either be asleep on me or right next to me when I’m in bed.
Sorry about your dog dilemma too, must be hard thinking about saying goodbye 🙁 at least you have your mum as an option if you think that would be the best thing to do further down the line x
@mlax you look fab 👏🏻 Not long now! My midwife friend told me that nipple stimulation either by hand or expressing using a breast pump is the absolute best method of natural
Induction, maybe worth a try!

mlax · 20/02/2021 10:15

Thank you @scrumdiddly123. I've tried hand expressing and I'm just not having any luck at all. I haven't got a breast pump I do need to invest in one however as I've heard that usually works better so will try!

ChampooPapi · 20/02/2021 15:03

Just catching up ☺️

@Leok83 I'm really sorry your mum and sister have been through this, and for you it must have been just all so horrible, you are so amazing and strong, you did everything you could and it must have been so devastating to have to tell them that he was gone. I hope you are ok 💜

@SunnySideUp2020 how are you hanging in there? What's the news? Are you alright? Have you been monitored at all?

I'm prescribing The Serpent to take you mind off things, it's certainly not cheesy! It takes a few episodes to get going but it was well done. It's a BBC dramatisation about the 70s hippie trail serial killer Charles Sontag. It's set in Thailand and then India and France. Great fashion, but bad people. Bridgerton not my thing either but funnily enough my parents in law are in it as extras quite a bit, my sister in law spotted them three times in the first episode, they are about to start filming series 2. But I couldn't make it past the first ten minutes even for them, my brain LOVES fluff but this was the wrong kind for me. I like truly crap telly, or really serious stuff, this was a bit to middling for me.

I need to ask you ladies about floppy babies. Jean our smaller twin, although holds her head up, smiles, cop's ect , is very floppy everywhere else. She just feels so different to hold then Violet-May, like she'd almost slip through your hands! She is coming up to 4 months in a week's time. I have a weigh in Monday at last so will obviously mention it, but anyone heard of this or experienced this? She feels like a newborn still

ChampooPapi · 20/02/2021 15:05

Charles Sobhraj

ChampooPapi · 20/02/2021 15:06

coo's

SunnySideUp2020 · 21/02/2021 10:35

@mlax amazing bump!
Aww i feel your pain. The last week/2 weeks heaviness/big bump and impatience really don't sound fun!
But you are so close! Is it your first?

Have you tried eating dates?

@ChampooPapi
Thanks for the recommendation will check the Serpent.

Floppy baby sounds strange. Unfortunately, to me they are all floppy. We saw DH cousin and her 5 months old and he was so floppy. Holds his head but that's about it. But then again dont have experience with newborns so not sure how it compares. Hope it's nothing to worry about. How are you doing otherwise? Has your c section scar totally healed now?

On my side, finally got a scan on Tuesday to check growth position and placenta/cord.
Have an appointment with a private midwife on 1st march with the hope that she agrees to take on my case as we would like an independent midwife with us at all times at the birth. Partly becausw DH might not be able to come and i don't speak the language and Partly because we are clueless and paranoid.
Also have my normal midwife appt on 4th march. So lots of happening compared to the past weeks.
Been vomiting all morning and i realĺyyyy hope it's not morning sickness making a come back. But just a case of overeating yesterday.

BecsterG · 21/02/2021 21:13

@ChampooPapi The Serpent is really good isn't it. It took us a few episodes to get into. After the first one we almost didn't keep going but so pleased we did. There's been so much good stuff on. We have loads recorded. Just need some time to get through it all! Ha ha

@mlax love the bump. The last few weeks are definitely the hardest and you just want the baby out! Fingers crossed it's not too far away.

OP posts:
mlax · 23/02/2021 08:54

Thank you ladies @BecsterG @SunnySideUp2020

The impatience is real isn't it? But yes, my first! I had a sweep yesterday and this morning I've just had my bloody show.. hoping this means he'll be here by tomorrow or Thursday 🤞 or something gets started! It's my partners birthday on Sunday and would be lovely if he was here for then.

SunnySideUp2020 · 23/02/2021 09:40

@mlax exciting!!!! Bloody show is definitely a good sign

Would be a nice bday present 🤞

Can i ask, is it the midwife who offer3d the sweep? Or you asked or how does it work?
I thought they only did after due date!

mlax · 23/02/2021 10:17

Think I'm losing more mucus plug now which is tinged with brown blood. Is bloody show / mucus plug the same thing? 🤨

Well, when I went to my midwife appt, she was quite young and it's a new one.. I've had many so far 😅 and she started saying she encourages people to have them from 37w but each midwife is different. So I thought I'd won the jackpot at this point 😂 so I basically said I want one and she gave me one, quite vigorously infact... her words not mine! But I was always going in with the mindset that I'm going to ask! There's definitely no harm in asking especially if you're full term @SunnySideUp2020

SunnySideUp2020 · 23/02/2021 10:27

She sounds great 😄 ! @mlax
Wish mine would offer one for 38 weeks too.
Will have when i see her next week...

I think bloody show is the mucus plug that has blood as well. So yeah similar things just diff colour from what i gathered...

scrumdiddly123 · 23/02/2021 10:38

Ooh @mlax sounds really promising! Hope things start soon for you!
@SunnySideUp2020 my midwife will give me a sweep from 39 weeks but only to try and avoid the induction they’re so keen on me having. I think if I was ‘normal’ they wouldn’t do it til after my due date but definitely
Worth asking where you are- if you want one that is!
So I’m in hospital- got admitted last night. Came in with period pains, they tested me for risk of premature labour which to everyones surprise came back positive! Which basically means I’m at slightly higher risk of going into labour over the next couple of days. Just waiting to see the doctor now and find out if they want to keep me in any longer- everything has been ok overnight and cervix is closed etc. Have had a million and one things tested (blood, urine, swabs from cervix, Covid!) so they’re being thorough at least

ChampooPapi · 23/02/2021 11:51

@mlax oh my god you must be desperate to meet him now! So exciting, I hope this is the week your rainbow comes. I will be checking regular for you updates, and gorgeous bump by the way, beautiful 💖🌈

ChampooPapi · 23/02/2021 11:54

@scrumdiddly123 oh no! Are you alone? Are you ok! This is scary, we are here for you, I can't think of anything else to say, I just can imagine how worried you are right now 💜💜

SunnySideUp2020 · 23/02/2021 12:00

@scrumdiddly123

What happened? Is baby moving ok?
This is so scary.
Do you need to stay there for a while?
Hope you are not alone.
Sending hugs 🤗
