Did any of you NOT vomit?

I'm 6 weeks with my first and I'm absolutely petrified of vomiting so much so I almost decided against having children. I've had awful nausea and been given cyclizine but I just see so many stories of women who had vomiting or even HG. My anxiety is so bad I'm starting to regret getting pregnant. Did any of you have nausea and not vomit!? Is it inevitable that I will?

I didn't. 2 boys. Felt a bit sicky, like hungover, with both, but never puked.

TheVanguardSix · 09/02/2021 07:39

Sick to my stomach in feeling but never actually vomitted apart from one brief spell in the early days with DC1. 4 pregnancies. Morning, noon, and night sickness but no actual vomit.

Lille4 · 09/02/2021 07:39

I wish I didn't. I'm currently 12w4d and I've vomited at least 3 times a day since week 6. It's torture. I honestly hate being pregnant but really want another baby so have to go through this again. It was the same with my first too. I was sick until I had my baby at 42 weeks! But by then it had reduced to just once or twice daily.

I've told DH I don't think I can do this again for a third time. My nausea and sense of smell go overdrive and just make me hate the smell abs taste of almost everything.
Hope you don't get it this bad. Fingers crossed x

3 pregnancies - no sickness or nausea at all with any of them.

I meant 'Can't' do this again! Lmao. The sickness really puts me off even thinking about it😞

Yes of course
Statistically most people don’t actually vomit, just feel nauseous.

AlwaysLatte · 09/02/2021 08:00

I didn't have any sickness at all with either of my boys, just heartburn in the later stages. Not everyone has MS. That said I would look into a phobia course online, because it is likely.

AnaisNun · 09/02/2021 08:02

Nope never felt sick and never vomited, not once.

A couple of foods that I’d previously loved really grossed me out (broccoli, cauliflower) but never felt sick. Just... averse.

sausagepastapot · 09/02/2021 08:04

I didn't.

Mint or ginger everything helped my nausea- tea, chewy sweets, mints, ginger cordial, strong mouthwash.

Also breathing exercises, meditation, oat bags/hot water bottles, anxiety apps are all very effective.

HoppingPavlova · 09/02/2021 08:06

No vomiting with any of mine. With one I didn’t even have any nausea whatsoever! Otherwise with the others a bit of nausea but not bad and was easily solved by eating a very small quantity frequently instead of traditional larger structured meals (bfast/lunch/dinner). Yes, realise I am very lucky.

sausagepastapot · 09/02/2021 08:06

Ginger chews

This recipe really helped me recently when I felt sick with a messed up gallbladder. Or you can buy ginger chews on Amazon.

Chica1990 · 09/02/2021 08:08

I have a severe phobia too. I woke up at 6+4 and felt like I was on the verge of doing so but kept fighting it off, after a couple of days I asked the doctor to help.

I’m 8+4 weeks today and feel a lot better generally. A lot of it comes from being hungry and tired, I constantly have to eat to feel well. I was also sleeping on one pillow but noticed sleeping on two that I wake up feeling better. I’m also using acupuncture bands and eating things I can face.

Good luck! I have felt so awful I thought I was waiting for the worst to happen and so glad my body didn’t betray me!

katiemumma20 · 09/02/2021 08:09

Don’t let yourself get hungry, that’s what made me feel the most nauseous (but never sick) or too tired. A lot of people also say the prenatal multivitamins made them more nauseous (you don’t have to take multivitamins you just need to take folic acid and vitamin d but you can buy them on their own) but up to you whether you feel you need to take them or not x

ame88 · 09/02/2021 08:10

I'm 11+1 and haven't been sick at all, I did have a few weeks or really bad nausea though.

katiemumma20 · 09/02/2021 08:10

Although obviously if your midwife or doctor says you should take a multivitamin then that’s different x

soberfabulous · 09/02/2021 08:15

Not even once. Felt terribly sick but never vomited.

randomsabreuse · 09/02/2021 08:16

Was sick once in 2 pregnancies, and that was dealing with major dog vomit and diarrhoea.

boymum9 · 09/02/2021 08:18

Just to say that I Have a awful awful fear of being sick and I was sick with both but it actually helped with my fear.

But out of everyone I know who has had children, I'm the only one that had bad sickness so that's quite good odds

laura2109 · 09/02/2021 08:35

I was getting nauseous and sick until about 19 weeks, it was not pleasant but it wasn't unbearable either. I was particular to avoid being hungry has it made me nauseous, I found eating bland food helpful, and I could actually keep it in. Then I had all sorts of cravings, at one point I practically lived on sweet mangoes lol

LucasLeesEyebrows · 09/02/2021 08:38

I didn’t with either of mine. I felt nauseous before breakfast and had snacks handy most of the time, as I worked out that being hungry made be feel sick.
With DD1 I had shocking indigestion towards the end and that did make me sick a few times but it was almost a relief when I did get sick.

chocolatesweets · 09/02/2021 08:38

No I didn't with twins.

ReggieKrait · 09/02/2021 08:40

Not inevitable no!

I didn’t vomit once with either of mine. Pretty bad nausea with the first and came close to vomiting once with the second due to a low BP episode, but that was it.

Anecdotally they say if you are not a “vomity” person, you are less likely to get bad MS. I’m not sure about HG, I think there’s other theories and mechanisms behind that.

I’m an emetophobe and haven’t been sick in seven years, so I think there might be some weight to the above theory. My sis who looks very different from me physically, had horrendous MS and my other sis who is much more similar to me has had none either.

It’s the luck of the draw to some extent but there is plenty you can do to manage the nausea and try to stop yourself vomiting. Either way a beautiful baby is definitely worth it x

vulturedudess · 09/02/2021 08:41

Never vomited with either of mine. Felt so so sick but that was it, couldn't vomit. A shame as I felt I would have then felt better for a bit. Like after you're sick from too much alcohol then you feel better. Just never felt better! So definitely a chance you won't.

SinkGirl · 09/02/2021 08:45

I had horrendous nausea from about 5 weeks - I couldn’t eat and struggle to swallow my medication. I didn’t know at the time but I was having twins and the increased hormone levels probably didn’t help.

My GP put me on promethazine which I took every day until about 17 or 18 weeks (also worked wonders for the insomnia I had).

I was only actually sick once and it wasn’t particularly bad. If I hadn’t been on the medication maybe it would have been more of an issue.

Fifthtimelucky · 09/02/2021 08:52

I was lucky and didn't vomit once during either pregnancy.

During my first, I often felt sick and needed to eat frequently. I used to sit at work eating carrots and bread sticks throughout the day. I also had a proper hot meal for lunch every day.

The worst times were usually the evenings. I remember that I often used to feel very sick and retch walking home from the station after work, but I was never actually sick and was always ok as soon as I had eaten.

I don't remember feeling sick at all with the second.
