Did any of you NOT vomit?

I'm 6 weeks with my first and I'm absolutely petrified of vomiting so much so I almost decided against having children. I've had awful nausea and been given cyclizine but I just see so many stories of women who had vomiting or even HG. My anxiety is so bad I'm starting to regret getting pregnant. Did any of you have nausea and not vomit!? Is it inevitable that I will?

My sister with two pregnancies, no sickness at all

mootymoo · 09/02/2021 08:56

No, little nausea with number 1, nothing with number 2. Like most pregnancy and birth stories, only those worse affected tend to tell their tales, and many get exaggerated over time!

Sleepyquest · 09/02/2021 09:02

I threw up twice in 9months but that was after taking those huge pregnancy vitamins so I binned them. I did throw up a lot just before I gave birth after my epidural though 😩

IDontLikeZombies · 09/02/2021 09:04

I vomited like burst fire hydrant during both my pregnancies. It wasn't like normal vomiting though, it sort of just materialised without all the horribleness. It kind of gave me a few seconds warning so I wasn't making a mess either.
The nausea was much worse and harder to deal with so if you are dealing okay with that the vomiting might not be as bad as you fear.

Not sure if I've quoted your reply right here but we'll see...! In answer to your question, yes I'd say the mild nausea was pretty early on, maybe from around 5-6 weeks but as I say, mostly gone by 9-10 weeks so nothing to really write home about! Good luck :)

SaltyTootsieToes · 09/02/2021 09:25

I had three children. I vomited with inky the first. The last two, it was the opposite end!

(Lots of heart burn though)

Thank you all. I'm really enjoying reading your stories and advice. Today I'm 6 weeks exactly so it's the time I've started to dread as it's when I've read it can either start or get worse. I've ordered some ginger chews. I'm really hoping it doesn't progress to vomiting and that I can manage it.

I found Myrtle and Maud peppermint and Vitamin B6 bonbons (on Amazon) really good at taking the edge off the severe nausea. They have a slightly odd crumbly chewy texture like Kendall mint cake, so if that would put you off maybe steer clear. But I rated them. Also flavoured boiled sweeties of any kind x

Sorry forgot to say if part of your phobia (if you have one) is vomiting in public, you can buy cheap sick bags online to reassure yourself that even if you are sick you can contain it. I took them everywhere with me just in case.

crispychicken12 · 09/02/2021 09:46

I'm on my second pregnancy, I've not vomited through either pregnancy. I did have moments of feeling sick but it passed relatively quickly. I just don't suffer from morning sickness

StillGoingToWork · 09/02/2021 10:05

I was nauseated but not sick. Ate lots of unsalted popcorn and drank ginger tea.

sarahhoping · 09/02/2021 10:18

When I was pregnant with my son (first baby), I didn't experience any vomiting except once or twice . I rarely ever used to feel nauseated. The folklore says when you carry a boy, you don't vomit that often. don't know if true.

Fembot123 · 09/02/2021 10:19

I felt nauseous but was never sick

positivebex · 09/02/2021 10:22

I had really bad sickness with my little one, particular highlight was shopping in Tesco and having to run across the store to the Toilets. Mine tented to be worse in evenings too. Ended up eating little and often and mainly beige food as I also went completely off meat.

Piccalily19 · 09/02/2021 10:24

I had no physical sickness just nauseous from week 4/5 to around week 12-14 I think. How strong is your stomach in general? I’ve never been much of a vomiter from things like excess drinking (back in the day haha) so I think that helps as a good indicator.
But just wanted to say I had a pretty bad fear of injections pre-pregnancy (had a seizure reaction randomly to one once) and I was dreading any I had to have. However looking my fears dead in the eye and “sucking it up” is something that I managed to do being pregnant. I think once I saw my little one on my first scan I realised I wasn’t facing my fears for me I was facing them for him. I know it’s hard to do that as you’re quite early on but just try to focus on the baby needs you to be relaxed and happy and there will be lots of scary times but you can face them all 😌
I had my little boy the other day and I’m so proud of how much my injection fear has faded away over the last few months. Could almost say they don’t bother me now that I’ve had that many! Good luck xx

Emetophobe here as well! Never vomited during pregnancy or delivery. Felt queasy a lot from weeks 6-9 and was fine after that. Had a planned csection and that was a breeze. Didn't feel a hint of nausea at any point and was so overwhelmed with joy from finally meeting DD.

ReggieKrait · 09/02/2021 10:58

God I keep remembering random shit, sorry 😂 During my induced labour (second) I felt really queasy and demanded an antiemetic, as I told them if I vomited I would literally lose it and not be able to cope at all. Which is true. Funnily enough they were fine with it.... it was in my birth plan too. You could do that if you wanted x

TheGlitterFairy · 09/02/2021 11:31

I wasn't sick either though did have a queasy feeling for a few weeks early on. As PPs have said, it felt like a hangover when you need to eat or you'll be sick - so i just ate small amounts frequently for a few weeks to stave it off (lots of cheese and crackers) and it passed relatively quickly. I've been fine since about week 9 (currently 16).

Edelweiss2020 · 09/02/2021 11:39

Currently 23 weeks and only vomited once - think I was about 13 weeks. Felt nauseous fairly regularly up until about 15 weeks and was really off my food but the insane tiredness in the first trimester was the most difficult part for me!

Bilingualspingual · 09/02/2021 11:42

I never threw up. Felt slightly sick but nothing major.

notalwaysalondoner · 09/02/2021 11:48

I had relatively mild nausea from weeks 6-9 and didn’t vomit.

savanahnana · 09/02/2021 11:51

In all my pregnancies I've felt so so sick but not once actually ended up being sick. I have a massive sick phobia so that didn't help at all, each time the nausea seemed to calm down around 13/14 weeks.

4amWitchingHour · 09/02/2021 11:56

Hardly had nausea, no vomiting at all. It's more common not to be sick than to be sick (anecdata from mum friends)

Sheepies · 09/02/2021 11:58

No, I felt nauseous though and wore travel sickness bands for the first few months. I found eating a bite of something before even sitting up in the morning, small things little and often and rolling with cravings helped.

evilharpy · 09/02/2021 12:03

I was never physically sick and the only thing that even made me a bit nauseous was tea and coffee (and even then it was only very slight). I stopped drinking them and felt fine.
