So this may be a little early to even start a thread. I got a positive digital test at 3 weeks 5 days. Today I am 4 weeks. From the date of my last period (11th January), my due date would be 18th October 2021 I know it's very early days and anything (literally) can happen but I was hoping to find like minded people!

When do people generally contact their GP?

Although I dunno what age you automatically get consultant led either so that could come into play. I was midwife led aged 35 right til the last week of pregnancy!

BlueisthenewGrey · 24/02/2021 13:34

Hi, can I join, i'm definitely in the geriatric club. Had my 1st at 37 and was not classed as geriatric then, no special scans or extra appointments.

This time I will be maternity led and will get extra scans apparently. I think under 40 is classed as normal now. Although my Aunt in the 1980s was classed as geriatric at 31 Shock

Ola85 · 24/02/2021 14:04

@Mumnttc I'll be waiting 😄

@BlueisthenewGrey welcome! How many weeks are you? Did you ttc or is it a surprise?

cooper96 · 24/02/2021 15:37

I'm finding it so hard not to tell anyone! I'm only 6 weeks +2. At the moments it's only me and my partner ( and the cleaner because I accidentally left a pissy stick on the side!!! ). My sister's are trying to plan a holiday abroad in September for one of their birthdays and I dont want to lead them on thinking I'm going / also don't want to point blank say no without a reason / also don't want to be wishy washy but also don't want to tell anyone until I've had my early scan at 8 weeks + 4. So basically I can't win 🤣🤣 xx

@cooper96 I know what you mean, so excited to tell people. I told my parents and a close friend who is also pregnant as I couldn't keep in the excitement. I thought, well if anything bad happened I would want these people as support anyway. Not sure how close you are to your sisters but if you can't hold them off, what can you do? I know how keen people must be to book holidays now we have lockdown lifting. Perhaps you could say lets wait a couple of weeks to see how the COVID figures fair with schools going back? Although September is a long way away!

poodlepip · 24/02/2021 16:50

@cooper96 lol at the stock. I bet the cleaner was delighted for you
So hard isn't it everyone getting really into planning holidays and weddings now that lockdown lifting is in sight

poodlepip · 24/02/2021 16:51

Stick not stock!

BlueisthenewGrey · 24/02/2021 17:02

@Ola85 I'm only 6 weeks and trying to remember how I felt the 1st time. We have been trying for 2 years and was about to start initial tests at the fertility clinic.

Good luck everyone. Wishing everybody a safe and healthy pregnancy.

8dpwoah · 24/02/2021 17:37

I've had to tell my close friends as our group chat just exploded with a wedding, hen night, delayed girly night away...I didn't really want to!

Bumped into a colleague today and it's a good job I'd got my big coat on or it would be a literal bump...my bloaty podge is particularly impressive today! Too many crisps to stave off the nausea I think!

Garman · 24/02/2021 18:01

Nobody here is planning anything for 2021 because we don't trust that restrictions will be relaxed, so I can definitely get away with not telling anyone! 😁 I don't usually tell anyone until quite late on anyway so now in lockdown and after mmc I'll probably wait even longer.

jellybean13419 · 24/02/2021 19:00

@Ola85 I had an abdominal ultrasound privately last Thursday and was 7 + 6. Here is the photo if you want to know what you'd see at around a similar time. I'm sure if it was internal things would have been clearer in the photos. But watching on the screen I could see it all clearly 😊 hope this helps you! X

@jellybean13419 I love it! Thank you for posting! Did they offer an internal scan or is it external by default? X

OnceUponAThread · 24/02/2021 19:45

@MeltingSnowflake

Does anyone else get annoyed at being told how to feel? If I bring up any concerns, people say I should just relax and enjoy it, but if I mention anything about the future, they say I shouldn't get excited! Confused

@Garman that must have been incredibly hard, I'm so so sorry 💐 I'm so worried about MMC, even more so than MC, which is weird and doesn't make much sense.

@poodlepip forgot to add, not only am I ancient but it was also our first month of trying for our first! 😁

@MeltingSnowflake I'm so so so much more worried about a MMC too. I cannot bear the thought of being excited and hopeful and chatting away to the bean only to discover that something went wrong weeks ago and I just didn't know. It's filling me with absolute dread.

DH kept telling me not to worry and it was really winding me up. But then he said you'll know if anything is wrong because something will happen and I discovered he'd never even heard of MMC. Now I have explained it he understands my worries a lot better.

I'm hoping scan on Monday calms some of my anxiety.

jellybean13419 · 24/02/2021 20:04

@Ola85 when we booked it, they said it was internal before 10 weeks. However when I got there, the chap didn't ask and just went straight in for an abdominal scan. Not sure if it was because the clinic only had a male sonographer that day maybe!?

Garman · 24/02/2021 20:13

Sometimes they start with abdominal and only move to internal if they can't get clear images on the abdominal one.

Ola85 · 24/02/2021 20:20

@jellybean13419 @Garman that's interesting good to know!! although I wouldn't mind if it was anal lol 😂 I just want to know everything is ok with the baby 👶

MeltingSnowflake · 24/02/2021 20:22

@OnceUponAThread I had that exact conversation with my DP today!! He wasn’t sure there was any point in having an early scan but I think he gets it now. And you put it perfectly re: the MMC - that’s exactly the fear.

MeltingSnowflake · 24/02/2021 20:23

@jellybean13419 awwwww that photo is wonderful 🥰

MeltingSnowflake · 24/02/2021 20:24

@Ola85 😂😂😂

DisneyLover24 · 24/02/2021 20:42

Hi Ladies and congratulations, I'm new here. I'm 6 plus 5. We weren't actively trying to conceive but after years of trying for our little boy and 2 miscarriages before he came along it was a pretty nice surprise. Not sure why I'm even writing this I just feel like I can't enjoy being pregnant, I'm a paranoid, nervous wreck. My anxiety is through the roof. Would an early scan be a reassurance? I'm just so scared about going through that pain again...I do try not to worry. Are any of you having early scans?

2021WillBeGreat · 24/02/2021 21:07

@DisneyLover24 I have an early scan booked for 6+5 although I'm pretty certain on my dates so hopefully it's late enough. I am hoping this will ease my anxiety slightly.

Seeing as you are already 6+5 could you wait another week?

DisneyLover24 · 24/02/2021 21:20

Congratulations! Yes, maybe I should try waiting a week or so as my periods can be all over the place, but my last period was 9th January so if I have one in a week or so time it just may give me that reassurance I need x

OnceUponAThread · 24/02/2021 21:29

@DisneyLover24 Lots of us having early scans here. I've got one booked for 7 weeks 5 days, which I reckon will be reassuring a bit.

Obviously things can still go wrong after then but someone posted some really helpful statistics upthread which cemented that an early scan will soothe some of my anxiety.

DisneyLover24 · 24/02/2021 21:35

@OnceUponAThread would love to see your scan once you have it done, nice to hear that lots of people are considering doing this and reassuring I'm not the only one driving myself crazy with worry. Thank you for the positive vibes ladies x

woooooohhhhhh · 24/02/2021 21:35

I'm going to book and early private scan at 7-8 weeks as my last pregnancy was ectopic, then I had a mc. It's actually reasonable At £48 and worth it for the peace I'd mind.

My stomach ache and cramps are settling down but I'm starting to feel a bit grotty in the afternoon.

Already daydreaming about names Blush
