I am going to get sent to Coventry soon otherwise, I think

I have questions

does anyone know of, or have, a good vegetarian / vegan pregnancy nutrition book?

If I buy a new bra now will it cease to fit me in about a week?

Will I look vastly pregnant by Christmas? (I don't want my family to spot it)

pleeeeeeeeeeeeease come and indulge me

Congratulations !! Just seen this.Good luck with your pregnancy

Hair dye: this page suggests Aveda salons - but you might have to be made of money?

I just tried to dye my hair the bare minimum when I was pregnant, and not at all for the first three months (on the principle that that's when things can do the most damage).

FrannyandZooey · 01/11/2007 19:54

Thank you chaps (sorry I was grumpy avi, I was just shooting the messenger )

erm I didn't start dying my hair until after ds was born and a friend got me on one of those makeovers at a magazine. They put all sorts of colours in my hair and it was just so fab I have been doing it ever since. Without colour it is mousy with dark roots in winter and blonde streaks in summer. I've already got a good 2 ins of roots [whine] and we are having the 10 / 10 meet up in 2 weeks [whinge]

yes yes foil thingies that is what i have. What do we think about foil thingies?

Don't worry Franny, we can just pretend that us gorgeous blondes ought to have roots showing....

(I'm just too skint to have mine done in time!)

Well Franny you will be so radiant and blooming that we won't even notice your roots

So Avi are you agreeing with wonky and saying you wouldn't have anything at all done in the first trimester, or are you agreeing with Piffle and saying foil highlights are harmless? Or something else completely different?

(I hope you are flattered that your particular opinion means so much to me )

of course you can dye hair - its completely safe - i have had highlights every 6 weks through 5 pregnancies and always been told its safe

fwiw Aveda is just as lethal as other stuff - still uses bleaches just nice earthy other bits!

FrannyandZooey · 01/11/2007 21:02

Thank you for the reassurance, but I don't think hair dye is completely 100% safe Roy, I think you can make an informed choice that you are going to have it done, but I am sure there have been studies where hairdressers get more birth defects than they should etc etc

Avi no, I know what you mean, but wonder if it just means a tinier risk, or no risk at all. From experience it is quite likely small amounts do get on your scalp with the foils. Oh actually it depends how nimble -fingered the hairdresser is - I guess I could ask them to be very careful? Would you have it done avi?

hello Pruni, am 4 and a half weeks. Have you got that beautiful black hair that doesn't go grey age 20? V unusual. I love black hair

avi I understand, i hope you didn't mind me pressing you about it but I did want to know

will ponder

try not to be too disapproving if I turn up with golden locks

FrannyandZooey · 01/11/2007 21:11

yes I did skim read the ecologist link did not think it was referring to foils but will reread

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 01/11/2007 21:14

have reread

yes i think the dark colours are fairly full of nasties but (I may be totally wrong here) I thought highlights were meant to be less dodgy?

I am drawing a distinction between 'colour' and 'lightening' - perhaps I am wrong here

Avi no you were helpful! Thank you

Pruni I hope not. I didn't last time, but I don't think that means anything

Franny, I think I didn't colour my hair (I have bleach in foils) for the first 3 months or so but then carried on with gay abandon! (not really but I did do it about twice I think). I will probably have awful roots at the 10/10 meet up as well!
