I just read on HSE website that some hospitals give the test to all pregnant women and others only do it if they feel there is high risk.
I'd have been much happier if I didn't have to drink that crap Smile

lucieloos · 17/03/2021 08:55

@Crazybirdlady over 30 too and not standard here either. I've not had it done on any of my pregnancies. Think it depends on risk.

@Emmie12 I would agree the nct course content is not that great for the money. It's nothing you wouldn't pick up from a book or know already. I just did it to meet people. You may find that even doing it online you get to know people though and you normally all swap details and set up a what's app group so there would be potential to meet up at a later date. I would recommend doing a hypnobirthing course if you can or get the book by siobhan miller 👌

Hi everyone hope it’s ok to jump on ! I’m due June 13 but will be having a planned c section in the first week in June instead ! How’s everyone feeling ? Excited nervous ? This is my 2nd I have a wee boy already and this is a girl , got my diabetes test this coming Sunday had one last pregnancy’s so hoping for the same results lol ! Then on Monday I have my 28 weeks scan and another meeting with high risk doctor ! 28 weeks I can’t believe it x

PinkPlantCase · 17/03/2021 09:37

Our NCT has gone online as well. I don’t really mind. I’d rather be safe.

I’ve heard of people meeting up for a walk outdoors with people from their group, especially now the rule of 6 is coming back again. I think it’ll be most valuable post baby tbh when it’ll be really helpful to be able to meet up with other new parents

Nesski · 17/03/2021 09:40

@Babyjune21 welcome! Yes crazy how we are all coming up into our third trimester already!

I don't know about everybody else, but there seems to be so many pregnant ladies around! Maybe I'm just more aware? Every 1/5 female I pass is sporting a bump, and those are the ones which are showing!

Sitchervice · 17/03/2021 10:08

@Nesski I found out the other day my Cousin and his Girl friend are now also Expecting! It's like they all come out the wood work 🤣

She'll be due in September so we both will have young baby's at the same time. Which is nice.

ChasingARainbow · 17/03/2021 19:52

Just in case anyone is wanting to book face to face appointment in store Mammas and Papas have not opened their online booking system. We've managed to get an appointment for 13th April in the morning and another for a pram shop in the afternoon x

Nesski · 17/03/2021 19:54

@Sitchervice we got married Sep 2019, of the 20 childless couples that came, 11 of us will have children in the same year group, 3 of my best friends are having their first babies within one month of ours in June!! I guess it's the right time though as we're all 32 now...

Nesski · 17/03/2021 19:56

@ChasingARainbow sorry baby brain means I just need to clarify, the appointment on the 13th April, is this with mamas and papas??

ChasingARainbow · 17/03/2021 21:17

@Nesski yep, booked a personal shopping appointment at mammas and papas. Also booked an appointment at moren of a local baby shop to try some prams out x

Lovethatjourneyforme · 17/03/2021 22:22

So having looked at notes properly, the 'little on the larger side' bubba is actually like 98th centile at the moment 😅 crikey.
Did anyone else who had the glucose test notice baby was much quieter for the day afterwards? I was really tired after the sudden sugar high, think baby was the same. They're back to normal now but from googling it seems fairly common
(though for anyone having it soon that has the same thing please do not take my word for it, I'm totally unqualified to say that it's normal!!)

TerryRose · 18/03/2021 13:00

@Nesski so many pregnant people !! There's definitely a baby boom happening here in Ireland anyway the midwifes and doctors told me 🤣 even people I know who said they never wanted kids are pregnant 🤣 can't believe I'll be 3rd trimester next Tuesday 😭😊😊😊 it's flown by in some ways hasn't it

TerryRose · 18/03/2021 13:04

Has anyone ever used a maternity support belt ? Seeing a few people talk about them on a Facebook group I'm in but I've never really seen them anywhere or know much about them, so far I've only a sore back in the morning but once I walk around I am ok .

Nesski · 18/03/2021 16:51

@ChasingARainbow booked mine too but waiting until the week after in case people go mad and dash to the store, taking a day off so don't need to deal with the weekend rush!

@Lovethatjourneyforme yes!! I was asleep by 10pm and he wasn't moving much either!

@TerryRose supposedly third trimester goes by even quicker, hopefully none of us get too many side effects and have a reasonably comfortable ride to the end!!

Penny2020 · 18/03/2021 17:14

Ladies, can I ask a possibly stupid question. What does baby feel like for you at the moment when they are moving. I was getting lots of kicks and jabs before, now I still get lots of movements but it feels more like her rolling over and, more weirdly, twitching. Almost like she’s pinching my insides multiple times or literally twiddling her thumbs - is this normal?

Sitchervice · 18/03/2021 17:36

@Penny2020 I thought it was a muscle twitch to begin with. But then the "muscle twitch" continued and moved to other places and got more... Rhythmic? It still feels like a muscle twitch to me. Unlsss he's kicking my groin then its just pure pain 😭

Scarftown · 18/03/2021 18:08

Yeah I agree it’s always bee twitches to me. I have however noticed a new sensation. It’s more a feeling of pressure that moves so I assume that’s rolling?

AlRRRR · 18/03/2021 18:30

I feel kicks like popping feelings that are getting stronger and then whole turning movements :)

Mackie2020 · 18/03/2021 19:45

@TerryRose I was given two support belts by the physio for PGP. One is like a massive tubie grip and the other is a stronger belt with Velcro. I think they do provide support for my (massive 😬) bump, but the PGP is getting worse ☹️

Bs93 · 18/03/2021 19:59

I’m really confused about the bump measuring - so I know I’m average, bump is about how many weeks you are, in cm. I’m 26 weeks and 26cm but from the apps/ nhs site, baby is 35cm long? Is the bump measurement crown to rump or something? Tried to google it but couldn’t find much

BlondePotter · 18/03/2021 20:04

@bs93 the bump measurement isn't related to babies length. Its just an old fashioned way of measuring a trend along time. I had my 28 week appt today and she measured me at 27 and said it was fine, and that future measurements helped them get an idea of whether I'm growing at an average pace. But if they're ever worried they'll get you booked in for growth scan x

My movements lately feel a lot more like rolling and swooshing around, with the odd twitch thrown in

Haven't tried a support belt but I get a stitch feeling in my bump when I walk for more than 15 mins so been thinking of trying one

Bs93 · 18/03/2021 21:28

@BlondePotter ah okay, thank you! Seems such a strange way to measure.

My movements tend to be swooshes and twirls, when he gets too big to twirl so much I hope he starts kicking!

I get a lot of hip pain walking so if you try one, let us know if it’s worth it 😊

Nesski · 18/03/2021 22:10

@Penny2020 I actually videod my belly when it looked like it was twitching/spasming. Just under 27 weeks now and it's kicks, punches, jumping, swishing, squirming, rolling. Stomach goes soft/hard depending on his position, when it's soft it means he is facing outwards and I have to prep myself for his kickboxing class.

Penny2020 · 19/03/2021 05:14

Thanks for the reassurance everyone!
She’s been lying in the same position for the last week with her big bum poking way out on my right side, making me look very lopsided, but she seems very happy there.

TerryRose · 19/03/2021 10:49

Thanks for the advice re the maternity band , I think I am ok so far but see how it goes . My blood pressure was grand again today thank goodness , I was asked if I was craving sugar , I ate two packets of biscuits yesterday so said I think I might be 🤣 so she did the glucose test and tested the iron as well and got the whooping cough booster so feel good now to have all that done .
