Have any of you who are going to use a bedside crib bought sheets and if so , how many sheets are you buying ?

Babyjune21 · 19/03/2021 22:56

This is my 2nd and she’s due in June my boy was born in feb 2019 it was freezing so he was constantly wrapped up ! I’m confused now what do baby’s born in the summer sleep in ? To they get covered up with a blanket I’m scared il make her to hold I was told off several midwives first time round “ a baby can’t tell you when they are to hot so don’t over heat them they will know to cry if they are to cold though ?”???

AlRRRR · 20/03/2021 06:36

@TerryRose Hi. I’ve bought a BabyBay which goes next to the bed as I co sleep with baby. I would put her straight into the bed but I have a 4 yr which comes in at some point in the night so I bought more so for safety. I got it from Ebay for £40, new they’re £200-300 and sold out anyway due to Brexit. They change into a highchair afterwards too :)

As for sleeping, I put my baby in just a vest in summer if sleeping right next to me, if in the next to me crib, I use a merino wool sleeping bag for summer use :)

AlRRRR · 20/03/2021 06:50

@TerryRose As for sheets, I have 2 sheets and the mattress has an organic waterproof sheet from little Green Sheep :)

PinkPlantCase · 20/03/2021 13:33

I’ve been feeling a bit glum today. Not being able to go anywhere has got me down and I’ve realised what when summer starts and places are open I won’t really want to go anywhere either as we’re planning to shield for May as I’m due at the start of June and don’t want to risk having covid for the birth (am higher covid risk anyway).

I then realised that for June and July I probably won’t be going anywhere either as I’ll have a new born and likely won’t be up to going places, though I will see my family much more hopefully.

I think I just need a bit of a moan. I miss driving to beauty spots and going for a walk or pottering around the shops, going to a pub or a cafe and having dinner at my mums.

Kjackson14 · 20/03/2021 16:18

Hope it’s ok for me to join in I’m a mummy to 5 boys and due baby number 6 (first girl) in June would be lovely to chat with you all as I’m so fed up of pregnancy now and just can’t wait for it to be over 🤣 xx

AlRRRR · 20/03/2021 16:43

@PinkPlantCase Awww love, feel free to have a moan!!

Is there a reason you can’t go anywhere now?

I also haven’t thought about shielding in May, is this something you’ve been told to do?

In regards to June, and not being able to go anywhere for 8 weeks, I wouldn’t worry, because you may be able to sooner than you think! Try take each day as it comes, there’s no planning for this 🤣🤣🤣:)

Sitchervice · 20/03/2021 18:10

@PinkPlantCase it's perfectly fine to moan. Once your baby is here you'll beable to at least go to the park with the bugy and do smaller summer time things.

I haven't been out much either. I've even retreated from FB because people in socal bubbles keep posting up picks of their meetups 🙄

PinkPlantCase · 20/03/2021 18:11

@AlRRRR I went to a garden centre today 😂 we used to go for long walks a lot at the weekends but the police by us have been really hot at issuing fines for people using the car parks to country parks. The national trust was the other thing we used to do but they’re always booked up over a week in advance now (I should just be more organised on this one).

I was told by the midwife to work from home from 28 weeks but I already was anyway.

I have a breathing difficulty and would of had the vaccine by now if I wasn’t pregnant, hence the extra caution around May I suppose, I’m sure we’ll still go out for walks atleast. I also want a home birth which was hard enough to persuade them let me have given the dodgy breathing so I can’t see them letting me have one if I have covid.

I also heard that if DH had covid when I go into labour he can’t be my birth partner and he is a gazillion times more calming than my mother 😂😂

We’ve arranged some garden meet ups with friends for April so I’m looking forward to those so much!

Fingers crossed that I’ll have an easy time of it and will be out and about not long after birth. Even if I’m not atleast the garden will be sunny by then.

I always have lots of veggies on the go which is amazing in the summer but this time of year I get so impatient with everything looking so barren.

AlRRRR · 20/03/2021 18:26

@PinkPlantCase Ah yes I totally understand now! I’m in Yorkshire and they’re definitely not fining people! Crazy right!

Ah, so that’s why you must work from home, I hope the days will pass by so quickly!

Regarding Covid and birth, I’d never even thought about the birthing partner being Covid +, so I’m guessing they test you both when you arrive at where ever you’re going?

I was swaying between a home birth and a stand alone birth centre to avoid crowded hospitals/ wards etc!

Have you started your seedlings going inside/ under heat? I’ve just got 8/9 things going and they’ll be ready to go in the veg patch by mid April, maybe that’ll keep your spirits up, watching it all grow and bloom ❤️❤️❤️❤️

PinkPlantCase · 20/03/2021 20:16

@AlRRRR I am very jealous of those living rurally at the moment. We have family in the lakes and in non covid times would be up there about once a month so have really missed it!

I know they test you both now when they turn up at a home birth so assume they do in hospitals aswell? They use it in part to inform what strength PPE they use.

I’ve just had enough time in hospitals in the past with my breathing that I’m very happy to avoid them if I can 😂 it’s my first and my area has about 30% of people needing to transfer in for their first so we’ll see how it goes.

Ooow yes seeds on the go! Non have popped up yet though I think the beans are the closest (I dig one up today to see if they were doing anything 😬). My odd plant this year is some mini melons but I think it’s too early to put those in soil yet. I normally have a load of seed tray hanging around the house but DH put his foot down this year so they’ve been demoted to the green house. I did sneak the tomato trays indoors today though!

AlRRRR · 20/03/2021 20:40

@PinkPlantCase Doesn’t he know how tasty home grown veg us !??!?!? Straight from soil
to the plate haha.
I’ve got mine going outside in modular trays like Charles Dowding uses, in a little flexible plastic greenhouse, which gets to sun all day and so far around 20% have emerged in just 5 days. I, like you, usually keep then on the windowsills too but this is actually working better!

Re: baby now 🤣🤣🤣 I’m sure it’ll all be well, I test myself once weekly as I work in a private household on a rota basis with 1 other person (7 in the team).

The lakes sounds amazing... one of my fave places, I’m in West Yorkshire, semi-rural, in a small village (maybe this is why I’ve never heard of any fines), can only imagine how it’s like to live in a cit during this past year

Firsttimeconcerns · 21/03/2021 17:11

@Emmie12 I did the Baby academy full course online yesterday. It was so useful and I had a discount code from having done their free baby care course. They also do a free breastfeeding course. I would highly recommend ☺️

TerryRose · 21/03/2021 18:17

Anyone have leaky boobs yet ?! I haven't noticed anything , I just have this awful fear that I won't be able to breast feed , I know it's nothing to do with chest size but just can't see it working for me as only went up a cup size and still only a B cup so just can't see it happening I know it's probably all in my head 🙈🙈

AlRRRR · 21/03/2021 18:31

@TerryRose I haven’t yet, 27 weeks on thurs and didn’t with my 1st either. Mine also have not increased in size, only 3 days after birth they did, and I fed 5 mins after she was born :)

Snally82 · 21/03/2021 18:41

No leaky boobs here yet (27 weeks). Measured them yesterday and they’ve gone up to a 34G though... terrifying!!! Haha

TerryRose · 21/03/2021 19:24

@AlRRRR must be different for everyone , I hadn't thought about it until I saw someone who was 22 weeks talking about leaky boobs and it's so hard not to compare then ! Thanks for the reassurance 😊

@Snally82 wowza I can't even imagine 🙈🤣 hope it's not too uncomfortable for you, I've heard marks and spencer bras are very good for support

Nesski · 21/03/2021 20:02

@TerryRose I'm worried too, I have no idea what to expect, do all women get leaky boobs before baby arrives? Mum never produced enough milk to feed us so I'm terrified, she has no idea and can't give advice on how to BF

TerryRose · 21/03/2021 20:48

@Nesski I don't think they do but I was hoping I would so I know something is happening if you get me, my sister wasn't able to breast feed so I'm worried I'll be the same . Now I don't see anything wrong with being bottle fed at all so if I have to thats absolutely fine , I would just like the option and to give breastfeeding a try .

BlondePotter · 21/03/2021 22:19

I'm 29 weeks and no leaky boobs... I'm not worried, I'm enjoying it as long as I can because I ditch a bra by 5pm and wouldn't want to be leaking on my clothes haha

Edelweiss2020 · 21/03/2021 22:32

28 weeks and not leaking either. Really want to be able to breastfeed but am anxious that I don't have much support (husband is super supportive of whatever I want to do feeding wise though which is great) as I lost my mum, I'm the first out of my siblings and close friend group to have a baby, and MIL bottle fed and is of the type that will try to push that on me.

Trying to get involved with the local bf support group which is currently online and doing antenatal sessions on zoom to try and meet other people.

I like information and have been doing lots of reading and everything says support is key as it can be tough, but I'm just hoping the support of my husband is enough!

Anyone else going to be a mum without their own mum? It's so hard, I want to ask her sooooo many questions! :(

Waitingforbabypage · 22/03/2021 01:53

With my first, I think I started leaking around 18 weeks, with my second I was much later- nearer the mid 30's. I'm 29 weeks now and only leak in the bath or shower. I'm guessing the warm water stimulates it all. But so far, very little to no leakage during the night though I did have some for a few nights just after I hit 20 weeks.

Tatty1987 · 22/03/2021 07:53

Hello all,

Can I ask a really random question? My best friend has just found out she’s pregnant, she’s literally a couple of days after her missed period so thinkin around 4+3. She’s had spotting (TMI : just on wipe) since a day or so before her period was due on Friday. She’s also had a couple of period style cramps and back pain. Now I can remember having a few cramps and also back pain but I didn’t have spotting. Did any of you ladies have something like this at the very start of your pregnancy journey? Photos of her pregnancy test show what I would call a strong positive. Thanks for any help ladies!

Sitchervice · 22/03/2021 08:01

@Tatty1987 I had spotting and bleeding in the early days, till I was 19weeks however, its always recommend they you speak to a medical professional if you have any form of bleeding in your pregnancy.

AlRRRR · 22/03/2021 08:18

@Tatty1987 I had spotting/ cramping up to week 9 with my 1st and nothing with second. My friend recently had bleeding week 4-6 and went for an early ultrasound at 6 weeks and all appeared fine. She’s 14 weeks now. Your friend can ring and speak to a early midwife unit but they won’t see her till week 6 as it’s too early before then. So just wait and see really x
