Hi @Cathie102 I completely relate. We were TTC and we're relatively young ish both 27, this was cycle 4 and I thought it would take us more like 6-12 months and the last few months when I've not been pregnant I've been gutted but today I found out I am and I'm like oh shit, I thought we'd have more time I didn't expect Christmas would be our last just us 2, this Xmas we will have a baby and I'm freaking out and also feeling guilty for freaking out. Also my partner is away on work so not how I planned finding out to be and as he's not home for a few weeks I couldn't not tell him and now I'm freaking out in case he's secretly freaking out. Ughhh

strangerontheinternet · 19/01/2021 21:08

Also i'm Scotland - what's the process? Anyone know? I've not missed my period yet I'm due Thursday but got 3 clear positives this morning including a clear blue digital saying pregnant 1-2. I was planning on testing again fri then I'm assuming it should say 2-3 or 3+ by that point then phone gp? Would that be right?

ClaireAir · 19/01/2021 21:26

Hi @JenA82, I heard the first day of your period is the day you get red blood. The brown blood in the days leading up to it don't count. So I would start your counting from there.
@Bubbles1st I adopted a rescue cat and conceived soon after. So maybe the universe does respond when we open our hearts. I also spent a lot of time in lockdown grieving past mistakes and getting over being hurt and I think that I'm now in a place where I'm ready to be a mum....

Bubbles1st · 19/01/2021 21:35

@ClaireAir I definitely think there is something to it for sure. However I wouldn't have intentionally had 3 dogs if I thought I was going to have a baby so soon!!

Can't wait though :)

Madeoftea · 19/01/2021 21:49

Thanks everyone. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. I'm trying to distract myself until then!

Cathie102 · 19/01/2021 22:08

@strangerontheinternet oh you poor thing finding out when you’re husband is away! I’m in NI so don’t know the procedure in Scotland. I rang the GP and the receptionist was kind of “why are you telling us” and it’s turns out you just self refer to the hospital. I find that a bit strange. Suppose I was expecting an appointment for them to check my weight, BP and just a sit down and see how I am and answer any questions. But I don’t think you see anyone til 12 weeks unless you’re getting a private scan like some people here.
Yes, I’m very grateful to be pregnant but also scared of the life change. Do you have anyone you could tell as well as your husband. I told my mum too.

Taybz · 20/01/2021 00:07

Congrats to you who just got your BFPs! It's so exciting isn't it yet nerve-racking!

@Cathie102 I also found it strange that my GP didn't want to see me but just self-refer. Luckily, I've got my first appointment in early fab with the hospital and I'm counting down the days.

Does anyone else just feel like fast forwarding time?!

AnitaB83 · 20/01/2021 06:59

Good morning all!

I also self-referred and have my first booking appointment with the midwife on the 6th of February. I could not wait and I booked an early scan for the 29th of Feb.

I am a bit concerned because I do not have many symptoms (boobs a bi swollen but not very painful, and some twinges/cramping in my low abdomen but that's all), but try to be positive, think everything will be ok and enjoy each day:)

I read that most people regret having spent their pregnancies feeling anxious and worrying, so will try to keep away dark thoughts Flowers Flowers Flowers.

Also, for all of you that commented that had some spotting (I think @unicornpower, you said you had), I think this is normal (or at least, not unusual) in the first trimester (my sister was spotting for weeks and has a healthy 1 year old son:) )

AdventuresAwait · 20/01/2021 07:00

@Taybz Yes, I would like to fast forward time, especially the next 6 weeks!

AdventuresAwait · 20/01/2021 07:03

@AnitaB83, Great that you have your first appointment. How long did it take from your self-referral to getting an appointment? I'm still waiting to hear back. I think I'm going to book an early scan too for the beginning of Feb.

AnitaB83 · 20/01/2021 07:15

@AdventuresAwait In my NHS area (Berkshire), I just had to call the hospital midwife number and they gave me the appointment during the same call! I think it depends on the area where you live but they told me that first booking appointments are scheduled between 8-10 week preg. About the scan, I will be 7+1 then (now I am 5+6) so probably they won't see a thing!

AdventuresAwait · 20/01/2021 07:21

Thank you @AnitaB83, where I am it is an online self-referral form so just waiting to hear back! I am 6 weeks today. Will book a scan for 8 weeks but I think they do the scans from 6 weeks so 7+1 sounds fine? Excited to have a scan but also nervous!

Jay3004 · 20/01/2021 08:16

@strangerontheinternet I’m in Scotland too. I called my GP surgery who then booked me a booking in appointment with the midwife. I gag that by telephone yesterday where she took my details and got me registered. She said the next step will be a video appointment which will last around an hour and a half. I’m only 4+6 so she said this might not happen for another few weeks. She said my GP will put the referral in to the hospital and I’ll receive a letter with my first scan date. Hope this helps.

Jay3004 · 20/01/2021 08:16

*had not gag

unicornpower · 20/01/2021 08:32

Morning! Sorry catching up on all the messages-Congratulations to all the new BFPS!

@AnitaB83 Yes that was me! Thank you so much for the reassurance, i spoke to a midwife yesterday from Tommys baby loss charity and she was really lovely and said spotting is relatively common in these early weeks and as I'm only 5 weeks today there isn't a great deal they could see on a scan and i could end up feeling more worried if i don't see an embryo. She said fetal development and changes are vast and sometimes even 24hrs makes all the difference, so I've just got to hang on and see what happens i guess.

My lower abdomen keeps feeling quite tingly and warm sporadically and i'm definitely feeling nausea first thing in the morning and then around early evening so i'm hoping everything is still okay and baby is sticking and growing.

Hope everyone is okay?

unicornpower · 20/01/2021 08:35

@Madeoftea good luck today, let us know how you get on xxxx

RadDarwazeh · 20/01/2021 08:38

Hi ladies just thought I'd update you. I called my GP yday and the receptionist v matter of factly said they don't refer to midwifery till 6 weeks. So I've just been told to wait till then basically. I wonder if it'll be via video like some of you ladies.

Laura2021 · 20/01/2021 08:46

Morning, can I join? Congratulations everyone! I’m 5 weeks +5 today, I found out Saturday and time is dragging! I called my docs Monday and they gave me a midwife appointment but it’s not until 16th Feb and it’s over the phone.. seems such a long time to wait. I’ll be almost 10 weeks by then!

MrsMcNtobe · 20/01/2021 09:15

Hi everyone! I’m 5+ 5 today after 2.5 years of trying, such a surprise to finally get 2 lines on the test especially when our next step was fertility testing! I’m sooo anxious though 😭

@strangerontheinternet I’m Glasgow and called the NHS midwife line who were really helpful until they found out my GP was Lanarkshire then they literally shut me down and didn’t want to speak to me, Lanarkshire midwife told me to call at 6 weeks sooo.... I’ve now managed to change my GP to Glasgow and I’m going to try calling again today, I’ll let you know what they say 😁

Taybz · 20/01/2021 09:43

Morning ladies! Some of you have said you're going to do an early scan and I'd definitely like to do one too but not sure which clinic to go to. Any suggestions? I live in London. Price wise, there seems to be quite a difference, £50-£150 is what I'm seeing. I wonder if they're all the same!
The 8th week mark is what I'm going for. I'm feeling so impatient! 😃

Cathie102 · 20/01/2021 09:53

@MrsMcNtobe I am so happy for you! 2 and a half years is a long time! I knew a couple who were trying for 4 years once. Nothing wrong with either of them. I'd be so impatient.

Seems to be a real mixture of care etc depending on where you are. I hope to hear soon from a midwife. I think I just want a bit of a chat. When you think you aren't suppose to tell anyone for 12 weeks, yet the first 12 weeks are the most difficult and lets be honest - this is nothing like we've seen on TV!

Anyone else's toilet habits changed dramtically? I'm a bit constipated which is giving me pain and then the pain is freaking me out. I think before this I'd only been constipated once before in my life!

strangerontheinternet · 20/01/2021 10:00

Thanks @Jay3004 and @MrsMcNtobe I'll wait till I miss my period which is due Thursday then phone the GP on Friday or Monday.

MrsMcNtobe · 20/01/2021 10:07

@Cathie102 Thank you so much! My partner already has a daughter so this was so stressful for me! This is the hardest but best little secret to keep but it’s just dragging in!

Also I’ve been constipated for a couple of weeks now, except for one day last weekend that it went the total opposite way 😂😂 apparently it’s normal! X

strangerontheinternet · 20/01/2021 10:43

Sorry me again. How do you work our dates? So my last period started 24/12/2020. Nhs calculator says due date 30/9/2021. So for booking an early scan do I count from 24/12? So am I 4 weeks tomorrow? So if I wanted an early scan at 7 weeks I could go from 11th feb? Even though I didn't ovulate till 7th jan?

MrsMcNtobe · 20/01/2021 11:08

@strangerontheinternet I’m sure from the first day of your last period, that’s how I’ve calculated... I’ve also booked for next week at window to the womb according to them you can book from 6 weeks from last period or 2 weeks from first positive test
