Marking my place too. Baby boy is 10 days old now. Knackered but worth it. Hope everyone else is doing ok and had a lovely Christmas x

danielasummer · 26/12/2020 23:08

@MaverickDanger don't be scared (easier said than done I know), I had one and I was so nervous about it but you will get through and it's not as bad as you think it'll be. Looking forward to hearing your update x

@MaverickDanger good luck you'll be fine, before you know it you'll have your lil one in your arms

MaverickDanger · 26/12/2020 23:36

Thanks both.

DH is distracting me and making me laugh by getting excited by all the Christmas food leftovers he can take in Grin

@danielasummer I did make sure that my nipple was not touching anything lol and tried to aim into mouth but in middle of air.... So to speak. I have to say, the crack on left made me cringe. Toe curling and I dreaded feeding on that side... Which I didn't want. I would literally have to try a few times...chickened out many times and would feel stressed about it. Then when we did latch on... Count to 5 and then we were ok. Although still pinched.
I told myself to man up ..... It's only 5 seconds. But couldn't go on like that I thought so after a chat with my health visitor stopped a few days for nipple to repair - well it took ages and I never went back to feed from that side. It's been the best decision for me. I still feed on the right which I love. Sometimes I feel I've run out but this isn't possible apparently... if I feel she's not happy, I top up with formula. Then along the day, she has 3 bottles of formula. Which we can all do as a family 🙂 works for us. (Apologies for the huge post)

Jwl45 · 26/12/2020 23:49

Oh and Def get the lansinoh cream. Honestly I'd put it on after every feed.... And more. It is absolutely amazeballs!!!!! £10 but well, well worth it!!!!

Jwl45 · 26/12/2020 23:57

@kj1010 I have also given a dummy as a comforter. I have always said I hate dummies!! (Being a teacher, I used to see little ones turn up at school , aged 3 ... Dummy in mouth... 🤦🏼‍♀️I hated it!) But, as a comforter instead of my sore nipples, it has been amazing. She is as good as gold, but sometimes needs that extra comfort to nod off to sleep or if she stirs....I will be weaning off hopefully 6month / 12 my month at latest🤞

Just marking a place on the thread

NaomiB79 · 27/12/2020 00:19

@Kj1010 I have this opposite problem, have been trying to get my lo to take a dummy but she just refuses. Instead she uses my breast as a comforter all the time even when she is not hungry or needing a feed. I'm trying to break this habit by introducing a dummy as I think it would help her settle herself better but she just refuses. I've tried about six different brands but no luck!

Rbukmum · 27/12/2020 01:41

Hey everyone new on here. I'm a FTM and due date was Xmas date so just waiting. Is anyone else past due date?

Snowwhite2020 · 27/12/2020 01:48

Thanks so much @danielasummer for opening a new thread xx

Asianchick6693 · 27/12/2020 03:55

@NaomiB79 my little girl was the same but I've persisted with it and she's a lot better at taking it now. What helped was giving it when she is calm and in a playful mood just so she got familiar with it. I didn't keep it in for long at all but enough for her to take it in and suck for a couple of minutes. She will spit it out when hungry and sometimes she takes it and gets angry I didn't give her my boob lol so will suck aggressively, it's cute and funny. I end up taking it out then but she falls asleep instantly on my boob. In the end NUK dummies worked for me. How old is your LO? Mine is 5 weeks on Sunday x

NaomiB79 · 27/12/2020 04:15

@Asianchick6693 thanks for the advice I'll give that a go. My little girl is 8 weeks on Sunday.

Jwl45 · 27/12/2020 06:31

@naomib79 Mine doesn't always take straight away ..... She will fuss a spit out etc esp at the beginning but I think she's kind of learnt what it's for so to speak! I have the tomee tipee first one. It came in box with bottles so haven't tried anything ekse. @asianchick6693 we've had the odd aggressive suck to along with some very what seems like "I'm cross" noises. It is cute and too funny 🙊

lc86 · 27/12/2020 09:03

We have only had success with 0-2months nuk dummies, it's a nice small teat xx

lc86 · 27/12/2020 09:05

@Rbukmum I think there's only one or two still waiting for their babies, how exciting that you still have it to come ☺️

Kj1010 · 27/12/2020 12:07

My little girl will be 4weeks on Wednesday and I breastfeed her apart from 1 formula feed my partner gives her at night so I can get some sleep. I think sometimes she just wants comfort rather than milk but previously tried her with dummy and she just spat it out. I’ve tried again today and she has settled with it whilst being held by me. My son would never take a dummy but my other daughter did and once she got to 6mth I would only give it at night and at age 2 took it off her but it never caused her any problems and no damage to her teeth.

I’ve been lucky as breastfeeding going well but i do apply nipple cream at night just after my partner takes over so I can get some proper sleep. The midwife did tell me that one of the best things to help sooth and repair your nipples is to squeeze out a little breast milk and rub it over.
