@Kj1010 yeah I don’t mind if he’s ok staying awake for so long, but we just have such a battle getting him back to sleep. I’m dreading tonight because he hasn’t had a crying ‘session’ today so I’m sure it will instead be at 2am tonight. Can’t wait for him to be more settled and not so uncomfortable.

Kj1010 · 29/12/2020 08:51

Morning all well my lo had a much better night that equals to us having a better night had bottle at 2 went to sleep at 3 and woke up at 7.45 this morning so I defo think the hungrier baby milk is working for him just need to get more and see if I can sell the un opened milk as wouldnt want to just chuck away

lc86 · 29/12/2020 10:16

@Kj1010 we had a good night last night too, feel like a new woman! x

Kj1010 · 29/12/2020 10:32

@lc86 it's great isnt it when they have a settled night giving u sleep aswell

MaverickDanger · 29/12/2020 15:23

He finally arrived! Born at 00.59 so feeling a bit shattered but we’re getting used to each other.

He is a very chilled baby, especially compared to a lot of others on the postnatal ward!

Thank you for all the pep talk and support over the last couple of weeks Flowers

Anotherboy · 29/12/2020 15:43

Congrats!!

Jwl45 · 29/12/2020 16:53

@maverickdanger Huge congratulations to you! Rest best you can. Enjoy every second with your little bundle of joy 💙 xx

Candoolili · 29/12/2020 18:04

Congratulations Maverick, lovely news. Was checking every so often for updates. We both narrowly escaped a Christmas Day birthday! Grin

Kj1010 · 29/12/2020 18:06

Congratulations

Babyhope98 · 29/12/2020 18:58

Glad I’m not the only one. My little girl has started a nightly ritual of crying and won’t be settled. Don’t know what is causing it think she may get over tired. I rarely get to put her down either. She has had a good sleep this afternoon I think I need to get her in some kind of routine if that’s possible. It was really bad last night fingers crossed as she’s had a good sleep today she might be better I struggled to cope yesterday 😭

alphabetti · 29/12/2020 21:10

@Asianchick6693 thank you for the advice. My baby did have very dry skin on her legs and health visitor suggested olive oil or coconut oil and that worked, I do like using natural remedies if possible so always good to hear a good tip like that.

@MaverickDanger congratulations!! Enjoy your baby and hope you recover well.

Has any breastfeeding mummies decided what contraception they will use now? I was previously on the pill but not sure if that would be compatible with breastfeeding and unsure what else to try. Saying that sex is last thing on our minds right now as we make the most of getting as much sleep as possible (our baby does not seem to like her bed!!!).

Asianchick6693 · 29/12/2020 21:26

@alphabetti you're welcome! I'm undecided on contraception. I've never tried anything other than condoms and when I got married to my partner, we used withdrawal only because we were at the stage where if it happened then it happened but we weren't actively trying either. Now that LO is here I don't want to risk it but nervous as I've never tried anything before. I suffer from PCOS too so I would assume the pill would be the first thing GPs suggest. Any other PCOS sufferers that can offer advice? I haven't given much thought as like you, sex is the last thing on my mind right now.

Also anyone else's baby got cradle cap and/or baby acne? Her cradle cap seems to be getting worse, it's on her forehead, eyebrows, behind her ears and all over her head. She has baby acne all over her body too. I know it doesn't bother them but it breaks my heart. I miss her soft delicate skin. It feels rough now and always looks red and angry. It doesn't look infected. Just hoping it goes away soon.

jalu47 · 29/12/2020 21:55

It's been a while since I checked in, lovely to hear of more babies arriving, congrats to you all.

baby is just over 3 weeks and we're getting on ok. He does seem very hungry though - @Kj1010 I'm in a similar situation to you, taking 4oz every 2-3 hrs but sometimes he's looking much earlier. He took almost 1000ml in the last 24 hrs when 600-800 is apparently the norm for his size. I'm worried I'm overfeeding him. Is the hungry formula still working for you? He put on 10oz in between 10 and 16 days weigh in and I think he'll be a little chunk! Just need some slightly longer stretches, especially at night.

Jwl45 · 29/12/2020 22:13

@alphabetti my health visitor and doctor have both advised the mini pill to me whilst breastfeeding.

Jwl45 · 29/12/2020 22:15

@alphabetti sorry - posted before finishing.. you can start taking it anytime and is effective from 7 days

kkr168 · 29/12/2020 22:26

@Asianchick6693 my son's got baby acne, it appeared a couple of days ago, hopefully it clears up soon.

Has anyone found anything that helps with reflux? My son's had mild reflux pretty much since birth, we switched to aptimal reflux milk which worked but after a few days he just refused to drink it, so we switched back to regular aptimal. His reflux has gradually gotten worse, it never used to bother him but it clearly does now, so today I rang the drs. After explaining his symptoms, sick after feeds, coughing & gasping whilst feeding, hiccups after feeds, arching back, grunting, etc she said it sounds more like colic & to try over the counter medicines 1st & get back to them if he doesn't improve. Having looked up colic & reflux symptoms, his clearly fit reflux & from what I can gather you can't get anything over the counter for it. I've read online that alot of people have had success with hipp organic milk, so we're currently considering switching him to that, other then that I don't know what to do especially as the Dr basically dismissed us.

kkr168 · 29/12/2020 22:28

@Asianchick6693 my SIL used dentinox cradle cap shampoo on her daughter, with great results

Asianchick6693 · 29/12/2020 23:00

@kkr168 I'm seeing the health visitor on Sunday so hopefully once she gives the all thumbs up to try it, I'll give it a go just to make sure it isn't anything else I should be worried about. I have family history of eczema so I want to see if she thinks I should get GPS advice. At the moment my GP is still doing telephone consultations.

My little girl has colic and reflux. I didn't go to the doctor's about the colic. Her symptoms basically fit those of trapped wind/colic and I tried infacol after midwife advised which didn't work and then finally colief which worked perfectly. Then I noticed she showing reflux symptoms and I rang GP up specifically about them symptoms: hiccups, fussing during feeds, foaming at the mouth, bringing up milk then immediately swallowing. So he prescribed infant gaviscon. I give it to her when I feed her the formula and it works like a dream and she sleeps through the night with no issue. I would ring them back and persist.

peachypetite · 30/12/2020 02:48

What’s the difference between reflux and colic?

kkr168 · 30/12/2020 10:39

@peachypetite according to the NHS website.....
Colic = hard to soothe/settle baby, clenched fists, red in face, bring knees up to tummy or arch back, tummy rumbles or very windy
Reflux = bring up milk, cough or hiccup after feeds, unsettled whilst feeding, swallowing or gulping after burping or feeding, crying/unsettled, not gaining weight as they're not keeping feeds down.

My son has all the reflux symptoms except he is gaining weight. Reading the list again he has colic symptoms too like the red face, rumbling tummy & he is extremely windy!

Guess it's possible to have both, colic is treatable with over the counter meds though whereas reflux isn't

Kj1010 · 30/12/2020 11:32

@jalu47 hi my lo has gone a bit backwards now had a very unsettled night slept fine during the day come last night would start to sleep then wake up and cry just cudnt get comfortable or settled for ages he ended up falling asleep in oh arms and basically stayed there rest of night till this morning I mean the hungrier food he isnt being sick on with other he would be sick a bit but he gone back to drinking 2 ounces every 2 hours but we allowed oh mum round and I noticed once someone been here he gets irritable and plus he was over tired I think as he has been ok will persevere and see how he goes just very stressful when u cant comfort or soothe them and a different not lo has a ultra sound scan on saturday due to being breech but my concern is the hospital where he has to go is apparently over run with covid patients they where on the news the hospital where ambulance was treating patients in them as was no beds etc plus the hospital has said they cancelling all non urgent appointments I rang his is still going ahead now I'm not sure how comfortable I am taking him up there but also want to get it over with so we are done

NaomiB79 · 30/12/2020 15:23

I'm just back from my little girl's first vaccines. She was great in the car there (she usually doesn’t like it) was great getting the oral one then screamed and then cried so hard when the needles went in and I cried because it was heartbreaking seeing her so upset. She took all of her calpol and fell asleep on the short journey home. We’re just going to have cuddles on the couch all avo and keep an eye on her temperature. Think I might get her Dad to take her next time x

Babyhope98 · 30/12/2020 15:40

Dreading the vaccine 😭 @NaomiB79

MySafeSpace · 30/12/2020 17:47

@NaomiB79 omg well done to you, I'm dreading these injections, I just know I'm gonna be in tears if he cries too

Snowwhite2020 · 30/12/2020 18:42

Well done @NaomiB79 xx
