Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

We had two purely bc we would walk the ten min to nursery 3 days a week, and then carry on our walk to the train station to commute to work. I wasn't comfortable having an expensive travel system (bugaboo) that cost more than my first car in an unlocked nursery shed for anyone to steal, so we got a cheap run around purely for that. It was £40. If we weren't in that situation I'd use the bugaboo for every outing.

Spend as much as you can afford to get a decent car seat and pram if you know you'll use them often. Don't bankrupt yourself (obviously) but think of how many years you'll use them for. I personally would go cheap on other things, like lovely little clothing sets that will be worn once and then poo stained for the remaining month that the baby fits into them! Some want to clothe their babies in designer gear and thats great, but I'd rather my little one was dressed in george at asda and sat snug in her bugaboo. Maybe think about what you can get second hand, like a cot (mattress should be new, for safety), wardrobe/changing unit etc. Never buy a second hand car seat, of course.

Ickli · 11/12/2020 14:04

For those looking for prams, if you're willing to try second hand check out Facebook marketplace. I got a Silver Cross in great condition that would have cost £400+ new for £45. Obviously got a new car seat though.

blodyn91 · 11/12/2020 15:35

My sister had an iCandy and has now sold it for an out n about double. I'm swaying for a 3 wheeler bumbleride, travel system. So live on a farm, so need to be multi terrain. Im also planning on running with it. Some have two prams, one for everyday use and then one for running, but I thought why not combine them. So in car terms I'll be getting a double cab pick up- can do everything!
Im also setting a budget of under £1000
Now hoping for some January sales on car seats

LuckyFlash · 11/12/2020 16:37

@UnicornAndSparkles makes total sense and very helpful thanks. I’ll invest in the best one we can for now and we can look at a cheapo for the nursery run when the time comes. Luckily my mum has offered to buy us a pram so it’s probably the only really nice bit of kit baby will have haha. You’re so right, no point in spending loads of stuff they will use for 5 minutes

Ttwinksy · 11/12/2020 16:44

We got pram in an ocarro bundle in black friday sale - includes any extras you can possibly think of, car seat, foot muff, rain cover, changing bag, carrycot etc for about £600 which I think was a good deal. The car seat it comes with has pretty decent reviews. Quality seems good, only downside is its quite heavy, so wouldn't recommend for anyone who needed to be on and off public transport a lot. We actually don't mind it being heavy as reckon it'll be more stable with hyperactive dogs running around it all the time. Main reason we chose it is it has big chunky wheels and good suspension (we live in v rural area). Agree its a minefield with prams though...who knew! Confused
Lucky for us all other big items are in the form of hand-me-downs so its mainly just the little things we need to stock up on. Jan sales for those Grin

BoJingle · 11/12/2020 17:32

I have an ocarro which is my "main" pram.

I bought the nano when DD was 10m. I back at work, she spent a couple of days a week with different relatives and the Ocarro was bulky to move between houses and cars but the main motivation was having a holiday booked. I wanted something I could take on the plane and that was lighter for holiday. That just became our everyday pushchair as it was more convenient although I do still use the Ocarro for long walks, big days out etc.

We've booked a holiday tonight for September 2021. Booked for a family of four. Me, DP, DD and baby.

Its the first time I've actually pictured us as a family of four and its also odd having something booked for a person that isn't here yet and we don't know them. I don't even know their sex yet Grin Holiday is so needed though and its nice to have something to look forward to!

Can I join? I am on the fb group but do find it overwhelming sometimes, partly as I'm due 26th April and lots of bumps and movements where i still have no bump and no movements! Had a (failed) 20 week scan this week and have to go back in 2 weeks (which feels like a very long wait) cos baby was in an awkward position so am trying not to panic.

BaaHumbugg · 12/12/2020 08:31

Welcome @onesteponestumble!

@BoJingle, I also think a holiday next year would be amazing! I would take anywhere at the moment Grin

This sounds like a great idea. When are you finding out the sex?

Had the harmony test so knew at 11 weeks what we were having...but it’s only just started to feel real!

GreySkyClouds · 12/12/2020 09:52

Cot mattress: SIL is giving us a cot with a mattress. I said we need a new mattress. She says we don’t as she’s family and it wasn’t used for very long so I’ll be wasting money.

What do others think?

UnicornAndSparkles · 12/12/2020 10:20

@GreySkyClouds personal choice but I'd definitely buy a new mattress. They don't have to be expensive, we got a spring one from amazon for my first and she's still using it in her cotbed aged 3y4m. I think it was around £30.

A holiday is a great idea @BoJingle! Lovely to look forward to.

Welcome @OneStepOneStumble. Sorry to hear about the scan, will be nice to go back and see baby in 2 weeks though. I'm sure if there was any need for concern they'd book you on far sooner so try not to worry.

blodyn91 · 12/12/2020 14:08

@BoJingle where are you going on holiday? very exciting

@onesteponestumble I had no bump at 20 weeks either, sort of making an appearance now at 22. This was me last weekend.
Ive found it worrying but also handy to have a small bump. Most people at work still don't know Im pregnant 🤭

Due April 2021
Rh8781 · 12/12/2020 14:16

@OneStepOneStumble I’m sure everything will be fine at your next scan. Mine took a while because baby had his head in my pelvis so they couldn’t get head and neck measurements. It took a lot of walking around, changing position multiple times and a trip to the toilet!

OneStepOneStumble · 12/12/2020 14:20

@Rh8781 that was what was a bit confusing. The sonographer didn't give me time to do any walking about. She just told me it was over and time to leave! I even joked about doing some star jumps and she just looked at me. She was very dismissive!

OneStepOneStumble · 12/12/2020 14:22

@blodyn91 that's reassuring. I'm just a bit fed up of having none of the 'good' symptoms of pregnancy like movements and a cute bump 😂 my mum tells me it's just a pain having a bump as it always gets in the way so I should be grateful!

BoJingle · 12/12/2020 14:37

@GreySkyClouds When they are born, so we have a while to wait Grin

We've booked Menorca, a Europe family friendly all inclusive holiday. Its about as far removed from our usual holiday as possible, usually we are long haul, self catering, explore as much as possible. This place comes highly recommended and I think although different, it will be far more enjoyable with a toddler and a baby to deal with. Plus after this year, I'll be happy to just leave the country!

Welcome @OneStepOneStumble. Were you hoping/able to find out the sex at your scan?

How many weeks are you? I'm sure you'll have movement soon, I'm 23 with my second and this baby moves alot less than my first even though everybody says you should feel your second more 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
OneStepOneStumble · 12/12/2020 14:40

@BoJingle 21 weeks on Monday! Really wanted to know the sex but she couldn't see that either ha! It does say on my notes anterior placenta so now I'm feeling a bit deflated that I may not feel them much at all!

Your holiday sounds fab - very different to our usual type too but after this year it'll be so good to just get away anyway and nice for baby too to have something simpler. We've not booked anything yet, still feeling a bit nervous about making travel plans!

UnicornAndSparkles · 13/12/2020 19:52

Argh MiL drama today. Since when is it acceptable to comment on the size of a pregnant woman's bump?! Today I had "that coat went fit for much longer", " you got big very early this time around" and "that baby will be enormous" !!

I had hyperemesis until around 17 weeks and lost a bit of weight. Since then I've gained 3lb as I can finally eat without being sick. I'm 21 weeks. So I haven't exactly piled on the pounds. I do feel like I've got a big bump, but im my first pregnancy i carried a lot of water and this time around baby is slightly bigger than average according to our 20 week scan. God knows why but I started explaining/justifying all of this to MiL when what I should have said was "f**k off"! Argh I feel so stupid! DH has offered to have a word but I think it'll just make things awkward. She's 76 so maybe doesn't appreciate that it is just so rude to comment like this! Argh Blush

BaaHumbugg · 13/12/2020 20:42

@unicornandsparkles I hate when people comment too, I think they mean well but it's grating isn't it. I have managed to hide this time quite well but getting to the stage where I'm not able to now. I think it's worse when you're small, I am 5"4 and normally very petite so hate any kind of weight just as it looks so odd to me!

BoJingle · 13/12/2020 21:03

@UnicornAndSparkles Oh that's not fine, I hate how everyone is examining your body when pregnant. I'm dreading seeing DPs family because due to the situation going on, I haven't seen them since I started showing and I know I'll get comments. I'm a different shape this time, I've put on about 3kg which is less than this stage in my first pregnancy. Difference is last time I was all bump out front. This time I seem to be carrying wide and that makes me self conscious.

Sorry about the TMI question but is anyone suffering with their stomachs? I've never had IBS before but it feels like it could be similar. Pregnancy is so glam 🤣

LeopardLover · 13/12/2020 21:04

I'd love to take a trip to Portugal once baby hits 6 months or so!

@OneStepOneStumble I recognise you from the Facebook group - I'm one of the later ones too(due 18th) so know how you feel. 22 weeks and not even a single flutter (anterior placenta too)! You had such a horrible sonographer, hopefully the next one will be much nicer. 😊

@UnicornAndSparkles MIL is giving me a complex too telling me I'm absolutely massive (when really I'm not 🤔). I know they probably don't mean it in a bad way but it's not ideal.

@GreySkyClouds I would buy a new mattress too. Xx

LeopardLover · 13/12/2020 21:08

@BoJingle I'm really suffering these past few days. I have IBS but it's been fantastic during pregnancy (except at the beginning but it seemed a lot of women suffer with crazy tummies then). The past 2 days it's been bad again! Hoping it's just a phase...

MsHedgehog · 13/12/2020 22:04

Oh I’m struggling with the bump comments too. I’m 23+4 with my first, and have quite a big bump already and people have commented thinking further along than I have. I don’t think I’ve had too much weight gain as first trimester I lost weight from all the throwing up and since then I’ve eaten normally and no more than usual. But it makes me paranoid that I’ve gone really fat so quickly and it’ll only get worse!

Has anyone found their sickness come back? I had a really bad first trimester and was throwing up several times a day and could barely keep anything down. Since then I’ve been fine but I’ve thrown up again three times this week, very very randomly. Getting worried it’s all coming back again!

Funkypolar · 13/12/2020 23:21

I’ve noticed my first stretchmark! Better get moisturising.

22 weeks and praying my HG stays away.
