How is everyone managing with the lack of sleep? Are you sleeping in the day when baby is?

Asianchick6693 · 14/12/2020 07:08

@peachypetite okay I'll definitely look it up thank you!

As for lack of sleep not coping very well. I don't know if my iron levels are low. I'm breastfeeding all day and barely managing two meals. I'm finding it hard to find a balance. My husband is back in work but I'm still asking for help every night with nappy changes. I feel awful but sometimes it helps without me having to get out of bed. Also sleeping whenever she sleeps or I pass her onto her auntie who will look after her for a couple of hours while I sleep. Right now all I'm doing is feeding, changing and sleeping. I did manage to take her out and go shopping yesterday but once home I felt behind on everything.

Hope I have more of a life soon.

Jwl45 · 14/12/2020 07:49

Sleep is ok here. We are three hourly no less... Sometimes longer! We don't come to bed until gone 12 - we watch TV... I fall asleep... So get rest like that. Then we come up.... Feed ... Then settle. Works for us that we come up later. Less nightly get ups! And I've had a good nap downstairs!

NaomiB79 · 14/12/2020 08:16

@peachypetite I was getting on okay as she was sleeping in three hour blocks through the night in between feeds and I would sleep a bit in the day when she was sleeping too but this last week she has totally regressed! Since midnight last night she has slept for 40 mins in total, I am so tired I cried about 10 mins ago! I think it's to do with the six week growth spurt and the colic but I need her to sleep more it's killing me!

Kpm7 · 14/12/2020 08:27

Your all doing so great.
I am still waiting for my baby and struggling with sleep as it is. So I am so worried how I will manage when baby arrives.

As women we have some kind of super power to be able to just continue running on empty.

Keep up the great work ladies we are so blessed to have this experience and have babies.
Roll on the 2 month mark when apparently they sleep through hahaha xx

MaverickDanger · 14/12/2020 08:53

Three hourly blocks sounds like a dream! I’ve been getting no more than 90 mins blocks since about 34 weeks.

Have had two messages already this morning asking if any signs. I’m starting to get snappy now, I know it’s from a place of love but really...like I’m not putting enough pressure on myself for him to arrive.

kkr168 · 14/12/2020 08:59

I'm also managing enough sleep, he sleeps in 3 hour blocks overnight. He feeds quite quickly I think, 10 mins at most on the boob, winds easily (on boob, takes ages on formula), quick nappy change if needed, were usually back asleep within 30 mins.
He will however only sleep this well if he's in my bed & I've given in for an easy life, if he's put in his bedside crib he screams & screams, with no let up.

kkr168 · 14/12/2020 09:12

Has anyone heard from the health visitor since babies arrival? We had 2 midwife appointments 2 & 5 days post birth, then discharged to HV care, but I've not heard from them & he's now 12 days old.
I'd like to keep track of his weight, seriously considering buying some baby scales.

chubbyhotchoc · 14/12/2020 09:29

@peachypetite formula feeding here and it's still only 2 to 3 hour blocks of sleep mostly 2. She's very slow. It takes an hour to get her take 1/2 ounces. She falls asleep on the bottle but if you put her down she starts crying and rooting for more 🙄 can't sleep in the day as I've got dd and stepchildren. The sleep deprivation is tough. She's not as bad as my first though lol

Jwl45 · 14/12/2020 09:44

@kkr168 discharged after 10 days . HV came when she was a fortnight... So won't be long now. Like you, I wanted her to be weighed .

peachypetite · 14/12/2020 10:16

@kkr168 I had a phone call with my health visitor - no visits due to corona.

chubbyhotchoc · 14/12/2020 10:29

My health visitor came out and weighed her at 2 weeks old. Not sure when she's coming back again

viixie · 14/12/2020 11:02

Has anyone had static growth? Midwife appointment today at 39+5 and measured 37 weeks which is the same as two weeks ago. I've got to go for a scan tomorrow now 😬

Kj1010 · 14/12/2020 11:11

@kkr168 you could step on your scales see ur weight then hold baby and step on again and see what the difference is I know not a definite but it's a guide I'm still with mw think we getting discharged sat but I had a txt wen I was in hospital from.hv saying a phone or video call on 21 st dec

MaverickDanger · 14/12/2020 11:13

@viixie very similar last week - I’d only grown a cm in two weeks when I’ve been averaging 2cm. Had a growth scan the next day and everything was spot on.

kkr168 · 14/12/2020 11:20

How random, the health visitor has just rang, she's visiting tomorrow at 11

viixie · 14/12/2020 11:56

@MaverickDanger thankyou, although the two weeks before that (my 38 week appt) I'd only
grown a cm in two weeks and she didn't send me for a scan then. A further two weeks later and I've not grown at all. Starting to feel quite anxious now.

chubbyhotchoc · 14/12/2020 12:16

@viixie at that stage it's prob more likely your bump has dropped which sometimes makes it measure a bit smaller. I had it with dd. I'm sure it will be fine

lc86 · 14/12/2020 12:21

I'm getting plenty of sleep between naps etc but baby is awake every night 12-5 and will not settle. He feeds, gets changed, falls asleep, and then hiccups wake him back up and he won't settle 😩 I still feel exhausted because of the broken sleep all the time xx

MaverickDanger · 14/12/2020 12:26

@viixie easier said than done but try not to worry, especially if you’re still having the same pattern of movements etc.

I was amazed at how quickly I was seen - in less than 24 hours. So you should get a call very quickly & get your mind put at ease.

Kpm7 · 14/12/2020 13:42

@viixie it can be worrying. I went for a midwife appointment and it was a different midwife to who I usually would see she said I had a growth spurt and sent me for a scan.

Even though she said “I could just measure differently to your usual midwife”

When I got to the hospital the scan said that the baby was measuring small. It was all a bit mad. From big to small and they wanted to see me again a week later.

In between that time I had my usual midwife appt she measured normal and on level with her normal measurements.

Went back for the scan as it was booked that week and all was good. Even the lady who did the scan said everyone scans differently.

It’s nice to see the baby though but my trips to the hospital for scans was annoying. I got a parking ticket which I decided to appeal and the let me off.

Hopefully everything will be ok and it’s nice to see the baby too
Xxx

viixie · 14/12/2020 15:45

Thanks @MaverickDanger @Kpm7 and @chubbyhotchoc , scan booked at 13:45 tomorrow so pretty quick. Just worried I will
end up being induced as my due date is Wednesday anyway x

chubbyhotchoc · 14/12/2020 15:51

Yes they're more inclined these days to say baby is small or big on scans because they use personalised growth charts these days. Whereas when I had my dd they just compared babies to the national averages. They had me in for monitoring three times a week with this one because they said she was measuring small under tenth centile. As it was she came out exactly the same weight as my dd 7lb 1 but that is apparently small for me as I'm 5ft 10.

peachypetite · 14/12/2020 16:34

Baby has been so clingy today it’s driving me to tears. I haven’t eaten properly or showered.

Pinktruffle · 14/12/2020 17:39

Sleep - mine sleeps for about 2 hours at a time through the night. He is formula fed but a very hungry baby and I think he has some reflux as he was fussing most of last night and coughs when drinking his milk. I'm trying to feed him slower (he guzzles 4 ounces in about 7 mins, that's with breaks for burping) and keeping him sitting up when feeding. I tend to sleep in with him in the mornings and get up around 11/11.30ish so I get a chance to catch up on some sleep.
