I'm one who is still waiting too Grin due on Wednesday, I've got the midwife tomorrow for a sweep 🥴

Kpm7 · 13/12/2020 12:10

@jalu47 sending you lots of hugs. Stay strong better days are coming.

So happy you have your little one. Ben sounds perfect and I pray it’s just the last night for you there.

I’m still waiting 2 days over. Staying positive but fed up of people. Including my husband. I just feel like maybe my expectations are high at the min. So everything and everyone is getting to me.

alphabetti · 13/12/2020 13:38

@danielasummer huge congratulations on the birth of your daughter. What a beautiful name!

Charl88 · 13/12/2020 14:11

I'm still waiting too. Due Thursday and have sweep booked in then. Currently on my ball trying to get him moving.... fed up as well x

Nic2908 · 13/12/2020 14:20

I'm still waiting too. Due date on Tuesday, but I think I've developed thrush and now I'm stressing as don't want to give birth with an already sore and swollen vagina!!

loobeelou · 13/12/2020 15:12

Still waiting as well, 13 days to go 😩

Charl88 · 13/12/2020 15:49

Oh @Nic2908 it's awful... I had that a few weeks ago. I got canestan pessary on advice from midwife and it cleared up within few days. Try amd get one tomorrow and use the cream as well. Hopefully it'll clear it up a bit before baby arrives x

kkr168 · 13/12/2020 17:13

@danielasummer congratulations, what a beautiful name x

@LRHRN my son was having 2-3oz of aptamil, he was bringing most of it back up though so I changed him to aptamil reflux milk today & he only took 1oz. I am mainly still breastfeeding but was struggling in public, so I'm bottle feeding when out.
Still struggling to get him to sleep in his next to me crib, he screams & screams until I put him in our bed. He sleeps fine in his Moses so we're going to bring that upstairs tonight

LRHRN · 13/12/2020 17:34

Congratulations to all you lovely ladies who have had your babies ❤️
Is that everyone now?

@kkr168 I haven't got a clue what I'm doing 😂 I change my mind daily. I've decided to bottle feed her expressed milk and then formula aswell if I've not got enough cause she's using my boobs as a dummy she will literally suckle for a few mins then falls asleep. I'll Breast feed her in between feeds if needed. She's 3 weeks old today and has been having 3oz-4oz every4+ hours

Asianchick6693 · 13/12/2020 17:34

@kkr168 does you LO have colic or reflux?sorry haven't been on here for a while.

I'm struggling with my little girl atm. She's very colicky and is showing signs of reflux although she's not crying but squirms and grunts all night long and it's happening during the day now as well. She's been like this from the beginning but she's becoming more and more vocal about it to the point it's keeping me up at night. Shes turning red and coughing. Also occasionally cries now too. Midwife suggested colief so will be giving that a go as infacol made no difference. Her only relief seems to be having an explosive poo once a day and that relieves her for maybe an hour or two until she's fed and the cycle starts again. Has anyone got any tips or advice to help me and my girl get through this?

kkr168 · 13/12/2020 18:11

He has reflux symptoms, he has hiccups after every feed, breast & formula, whenever he had formula he was sick after. Today's our 1st day using reflux milk & only the 1 bottle, he wasn't sick after.

chubbyhotchoc · 13/12/2020 18:40

Those of you with reflux babies, I had this with my first. It was terrible. Went through all the infacol, baby gaviscon and coleif stuff but the only thing that helped was ranitidine in the end. She was so much better after that. Reflux is so miserable. Hang in there!

MaverickDanger · 13/12/2020 19:10

@Asianchick6693 do you have a next to me crib? We were recommended to keep the top end raised slightly to help with a colicky baby.

@LRHRN nope there’s at least 5 of us to go!

Nic2908 · 13/12/2020 19:18

Ranitadine is no longer recommended for for children to take. Treatment for reflux is a combination of gaviscon and dispersable omeprazole.

@Asianchick6693 I suggest possibly going to your gp and seeing if they could prescribe anything, does baby have any rashes or anything like that? You could also bare in mind cows milk protein allergies, if breast feeding lay off the dairy for a while and see if that works.

A couple of the mums I have worked with over the years have also mentioned that hipp organic formula really made a difference to a baby who was very colicky. Although I have no experience of this. But what I would say is as physicians don't not keep swapping and changing milks. Give each one time. There is no quick fix to reflux and colic. Believe me my job would be easier if there was.

LRHRN · 13/12/2020 19:41

@Asianchick6693 we've bought a side sleeper crib and have the head end raised slightly. I've found that putting her in a sleeping bag has helped stop the grunting aswell. She's still very clingy and wants to be held all the time but she settles about 11pm and wakes about 4-4.30ish

Pinktruffle · 13/12/2020 19:52

@NaomiB79 I have repeatedly suggested to DH that he sleep in the spare roome and that we will be fike for one night without him but he insists everything will be fine - he's a won't listen and regret afterwards type but I will keep on at him!

@lc86 to be fair to DH, he gets up and makes the formula for me everytime baby wakes up so he's not doing nothing, I just feel bad as I know he is struggling to get stuff done at work due to me and the little one constantly disturbing him. We will muddle through. He has the week off next week and has taken Wednesday's off for the next few weeks aside from next week to break his week up and help.

Congratulations @danielasummer, what a lovely name!

Asianchick6693 · 13/12/2020 20:10

@kkr168 my girl has been sick a few times and has also brought milk back up and swallowed several times straight after a feed unless she is burped straight away. It's worse with breastfeeding, I try different positions nothing seems to help. Her saliva is also very frothy sometimes and I've read that could be because of acid? I don't know will have to ring GP tomorrow.

@MaverickDanger yes it's been raised since the beginning. Not sure if it has helped at all, also websites say to keep her on a flat surface but that just seems to make her even more uncomfortable than she already is.

@Nic2908 she's only got baby acne on her face, no visible rash and I don't suspect allergies but it does seem like she's having a tough time digesting my breast milk. I give her one bottle of formula - aptamil first infant milk and tbh she's not too bad after that feed. Midwife suggested today it looks like I have an oversupply of breastmilk and when she's trying to feed I am having a fast let down which is causing the choking and fussing on breast. I'm having trouble expressing which isn't helping as my breasts are engorged before every feed. Feel stuck in this horrible cycle :(

@LRHRN my little girl settles at around the exact same time and wakes up then too but it's the sounds at night and the severe squirming and grunting which worry me. She doesn't cry and usually goes back to sleep but the fact she does it continuously for hours on end makes me worried. I swaddle her, have the crib at an incline, I burp her before feeds, I don't really know what more I can do. Will see how this colief works, also she's been really fussy with taking a dummy even though it does seem to settle her. She finally been using a Nuk dummy today and I noticed it reduced 5hr grunting significantly. Will give it a go tonight and see if it helps soothe her.

Thank you girls, seems like colic/reflux is a common issue.

peachypetite · 13/12/2020 20:18

My little girl developed colic last week but we’ve already seen a big improvement by doing the following

  • winding her multiple times per feed instead of just at the end
  • bicycle legs
  • little remedies gripe water (expensice but it’s organic and really does kick in quickly. Sometimes if she’s getting a bit grizzly after a feed I give her some instead of waiting for her to be worse)
  • a dummy. I used to be anti dummy but I read that it can be soothing for them and crying makes them take in even more air which isn’t what you want!
LRHRN · 13/12/2020 20:38

@Asianchick6693 mines does exactly the same. I mentioned it to the health visitor and she said it's normal.
She doesn't cry or seem like she's in pain.
We call it "Noras animal kingdom" cause each noise sounds like a different animal 😂
I've started with breast milk bottles so at least I know she's fed, winded and changed and I try to ignore her which I struggle with.

Jwl45 · 13/12/2020 20:57

Well tonight we introduced formula... 4 Oz ... Guzzled down and enjoyed.
I breastfed at 4pm... And a little after as she wasn't satisfied.
I still didn't think she was satisfied really so at 6pm... I gave her 4oz of SMA Pro. (We've bought ready made cartons to start with - just to see how we get on. Touch wood. no extra wind etc apart from an explosive poop ha. Will breastfeed now tonight tomorrow until same time and give formula again. I'm worried a little about getting too much milk but figure less suckling for one feed I won't be producing. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I did read online (after feeding) that you can breastfeed and then top up straight with formula.
Has anyone done this? This is the first time I've read this! And I figure this would be way too much as you can't really tell how much you give when breastfeeding. We are getting into a routine though and she's sleeping a little longer through the night so hang in there everyone 😊

Asianchick6693 · 13/12/2020 23:35

@LRHRN I'm really struggling to ignore her, even though she's sleeping, I'm the one up all night and it's draining me. I'm beginning to wonder if the formula is what's causing it as it's the last thing she has and that's when the noises are loudest and when she seems to be in most discomfort. So hard to know what's best.

@peachypetite I'm glad you've found something that works. I'm doing all those minus gripe water as I've heard they have to be a month old so just waiting another week until I can use it.

@Jwl45 I do this for my little girl's last feed before bed which is around 11pm. I give her my breast and if she's still hungry I am giving her 90ml formula and she still chugs it down. It's the only way I found (for me) that she will settle into a deep sleep for the night otherwise she fusses. It's normal for babies to cluster feed at night but I just personally couldn't cope and by doing this it gives me around 3-4 hours to rest.

NaomiB79 · 14/12/2020 00:05

@Asianchick6693 my little girl has colic too...it really is tough going so I do know how you feel! My baby does cry, she screams for hours because she is in a lot of pain with it, it's so difficult to watch. We've tried everything too and some things seem to relieve her symptoms briefly and others have no effect. I think every baby is different what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. It's exhausting and very tiring and heartbreaking to see them upset and uncomfortable.

I would ask your doctor as I think different babies have colic for different reasons from what I've heard and they may be able to prescribe something and check it is definitely colic and not for example and intolerance to lactose etc.

From what I've read in almost all cases it passes around 12 weeks, I know that that feels like a long way off just now (I'm on week 6 and counting down the days!) but it will pass in time even if it feels like for now it might go on for ever xx

Asianchick6693 · 14/12/2020 00:09

@NaomiB79 thank you. I'm sorry you're little one is having a tough time and must be so hard for you to see her cry. I don't know if I could cope if my girl was crying so well done for everything you're doing so far.

I've given her two doses of colief and to my disbelief she's actually been quiet so far. Touch wood. I will have to see how the night plays out but a phone call to the GP is definitely on my to do list for tomorrow. I hope things improve with your little one in the coming weeks. Mines 3 weeks so still have a way to go. X

NaomiB79 · 14/12/2020 00:16

@Asianchick6693 that is good news I hope it continues to give her some relief (and you some sleep) xx

peachypetite · 14/12/2020 06:12

@Asianchick6693 the little remedies one I’m using is fine for two weeks and up. Highly recommend you try it.
