Congratulations to the new mums this week ☺️ sorry to hear some births haven't been straight forward! Why do inductions always seem to end up in c section, just seems so unfair that you've been through so much already! Glad to hear everyone is recovering well. We decided to change to bottle feeding and it's the best decision I made for us as a family, well done all the mums still breastfeeding!! I salute you! xx

Jwl45 · 11/12/2020 10:19

@lc86 I'm thinking of combi feeding...with formula not expressing. Is it formula for you? If so, How did you find the stopping of bf with regards to fullness/ engorgement etc ? I don't know where and when to start dropping feeds and introducing bottle. I don't want to get mastitis etc. (I came even remember how I did it with my other 2 it was that long ago!) X

chubbyhotchoc · 11/12/2020 10:24

@lc86 I think it can just be such a long process that women's bodies don't always cope and exhaustion sets in. Also I've read that women don't release the same natural pain blockers in response to the induction hormones. I didn't end up with c section but think that's only because I labour fast naturally so it set me off like a rocket. It was definitely more painful than my previous natural labour though

lc86 · 11/12/2020 10:33

@Jwl45 I only breastfed for 6 days so I've just stopped altogether, I am taking paracetamol and ibuprofen still from c section and they're definitely helping with the pain from being engorged. I'm wearing a really tight bra and breast pads and that's really helping as when I take it off it's quite painful. I have cracked nipples so I'm plastering the breast pad in lanolin which feels amazing! I've moved to formula as expressing was so painful due to sore nipples. It's so good to get some sleep when DH is feeding him now!

Kj1010 · 11/12/2020 10:40

Morning all bloody shattered little man woke up every hour last night he is only taking a ounce at a time not that I'm.complaining lol the milk has set in on the boobs they are rock solid and sore so out comes the cabbage today I think currently have him.in moses basket at window as he has a bit of jaundiced really hoping it works as dont want to have to take him up hospital as tbh I was not that impressed with part of my process up there from lazy midwifes/nurses to it actually being dirty so really dont want my baby in there anyone have any other suggestions to help get it down the midwife said to take him out in garden or a walk which will do when partner is home

Jwl45 · 11/12/2020 10:42

@lc86 ah thank you for that. Yes... I'm using that cream after every feed it is totally amazing. Left nipple is sore - although apparently the latch is perfect but damage had been done at start ...... I do really enjoy it though but dread that left feed. Although pain is now only seconds. ..... so I get over it quick enough. They are so heavy lol I find they hurt in the cold and any slight touch...

peachypetite · 11/12/2020 11:31

@Kj1010 the night my milk came in I was up all night with the pain!

I also have so much respect for women who exclusively breast feed. My baby still hasn’t latched longer than three minutes since we got home so I have been expressing and she’s getting breast milk from a bottle and some formula too. It just means so much less pressure in terms of feeding and if I’m asleep my husband can!

sandrastillstuffed · 11/12/2020 12:37

@danielasummer how did your induction go?

My waters broke yesterday night at 39+6 and I have to come back tonight to get induced if labour does not start naturally... and not many signs yet, just water flowing from time to time and a show (slightly bloody strained)
does any of you know how early one can ask for epidural/something stronger than paracetamol? Yesterday I got checked down there by a midwife at the delivery suite and it was very painful, just to find out I was 1 cm :_(
I honestly would rather get a c-section than being induced alone Sad

lc86 · 11/12/2020 13:36

@Jwl45 same here, damage was done on the first day and then he latched lovely! I loved my time feeding him (apart from the pain) and I'm really glad he had all the 'liquid gold'.. he was 9lb 12oz I just don't think I'd have ever kept up with him or left my chair 🙊

lc86 · 11/12/2020 13:38

@sandrastillstuffed how exciting! Honestly try for a natural birth hun, c section recovery is not nice. Fingers crossed contractions start for you today xx

Kpm7 · 11/12/2020 14:13

Did any one on here express before the baby was born?
Wondering if I should try and stock up if that’s a thing. FTM so forgive me if it’s a stupid question
X

lc86 · 11/12/2020 14:27

@Kpm7 I did and am so glad!! He had all the colostrum I'd expressed when we were in hospital through a syringe x

Kpm7 · 11/12/2020 15:15

@lc86 did you use a pump or do it by hand.
I’ve managed to fill 12 x1ml syringes with colostrum but was wondering weather to try and use my pump now. But I have heard mixed reviews.
How much did you do? Xx

viixie · 11/12/2020 15:20

@Kpm7 did you find your boobs ached after hand expressing prenatally? I've tried for the first time today and only got 0.2mls 😬 but my boobs are aching now

lc86 · 11/12/2020 15:20

@Kpm7 that's amazing! I only had 10 1ml syringes so you've got plenty there I'd say ☺️ I used hand, and then pump. Pump was much easier and quicker to be honest than hand xx

lc86 · 11/12/2020 15:24

@viixie after the pump I found they didn't ache half as much as hand expressing xx

Jellycat2020 · 11/12/2020 15:36

I think we've tried every bloody method of feeding possible since Ellie was born - syringes, spoon, cup, finger, breast (attempted), nipple shields and two different bottles. I've hand expressed, pump expressed and used formula. I had loads of milk at the start so she got purely breastmilk for the first 2 weeks then we've gradually switched over to formula as breastfeeding isn't happening and I found it so exhausting to express every 3 hours day and night. When weaning off expressing, I just gradually stretched the time between expressions and reduced the time of each session. I had a few days when my boobs were huge and very hard and sore but then the milk just dropped off and now I barely get 20ml off when I do express and they've almost gone back to pre- pregnancy size! I'd have loved to breastfeed so kudos to all you doing so!

NaomiB79 · 11/12/2020 15:43

@sandrastillstuffed I would ask for more pain relief if you feel what you have is not enough. They can give you gas and air in the induction ward before you go to the labour ward if you need it if you start having contractions as a result of the induction. I actually needed gas and air to get through the internal examinations as I found them so painful! I wasn't dilating, I never even got to 2cm after 3 attempts at induction so ended up having a section. Every time they checked me it was really painful as everything was tight and my cervix was still quite far back.

I would say see how the induction goes but if it isn't working after a couple of days and you think a section would be better for you push for one. Everyone is different of course but I recovered very quickly from my section, was hardly in any pain from the day after and have had no problems since.

sandrastillstuffed · 11/12/2020 16:13

Thank you @lc86 and @NaomiB79 for your input.

I will ask for gas next time they examine me, last time they offered I said no (no idea why) and it was extremely painful. And I tend to contract it when I feel the pain so it does not look good for me :D
let's see how next days go!

lc86 · 11/12/2020 16:15

@sandrastillstuffed any sign of contractions? X

sandrastillstuffed · 11/12/2020 16:27
@sandrastillstuffed any sign of contractions? X
yes and getting more painful but I don't think they are every 3 min, I might lie and go there in a couple of hours to see if I can avoid being induced...

lc86 · 11/12/2020 16:34

@sandrastillstuffed that's fab, sounds like you won't need to be induced if they're coming on their own 😀 (not fab you're in pain obviously) good luck x

Kpm7 · 11/12/2020 17:46

@sandrastillstuffed good luck. Soon be holding your bundle of joy. I am due today and no signs or anything 🙈

@lc86 @Jellycat2020
I just used my hand and got 2 syringes full so got excited and got the pump out.

Nothing at all come with the pump (maybe I am using it wrong) then I took it off and used my hand again and it worked. Think I need training on the pump or maybe I just don’t need to be using it yet.

Feeling very much unsure on what’s going on with it xxx

Charl88 · 11/12/2020 18:07

I've been having period type cramps and brqxton hicks quite regularly since early hours of this morning. Managed to have a nap this afternoon but nothing is getting any stronger or worse. Weirdly enough my boibs have started leaking this evening. Hoping its a sign or am I just clutching at straws. I had no signs with my first at all waters broke and contractions started really strongly!!

@sandrastillstuffed good luck!!! Sounds like your baby will be here soon x

Kpm7 · 11/12/2020 18:36

@Charl88 that’s exciting
I am still waiting for pains lol
Xx
