Hey! We are doing great :-) Baby has been having lots of cuddles and is now free from tubes and wires - in an open cot now in the special care ward (no longer an intensive care baby!) - begun breastfeeding now too and he's feeding really well so far - hopefully he will be home with us in the next couple of days :-)

MaverickDanger · 08/12/2020 19:55

@Nic2908 we have the same due date! So fed up already, the idea of another 3 weeks of this 😭

Babyhope98 · 08/12/2020 20:15

Congrats @jalu47
Great news @EithneBlue so pleased for you 💙

loobeelou · 08/12/2020 20:56

@Amyyy1

Been induced today at 40+6 for reduced movements, really upset that I don't get to go on the birthing unit anymore ☹️ One minute I'll be super positive and knowing I'll meet my baby within a few days then just as quickly I'll be back to crying.... currently reading positive induction stories to try help!!
Feel free to ignore my advice but I'll throw it out there anyway as there's a few things I wish I'd known before I let them induce me. Make sure you ask for pain relief early on if you feel you need it. Induction contractions are a bit more intense than natural ones. Don't look at the toco monitor either to see how regular your contractions are. Trust your body. If you think the pains are regular don't let them switch the drip up. They tend to look at the toco monitor to see how well you're contracting but it's not a reliable indicator at all. I was fully dilated and the monitor wasn't registering the strong contractions. I didn't speak up and ended up with no pain relief and hyper stimulated. Also don't be afraid to ask to go to the toilet because you're tethered up to the monitor. You'll probably want to go to the loo a lot and it's better to do this before you get to the pushing stage. I found it quite hard as you can tell but a friend of mine had an induction a couple of weeks ago and had a nice steady labour.
Nic2908 · 08/12/2020 22:53

@MaverickDanger so good yo have a due date buddy. Every movement has me questioning when its going to be haha

Nic2908 · 08/12/2020 22:54

@peachypetite thank you for that!!

@EithneBlue that is amazing news you must be so so happy!!!

MaverickDanger · 08/12/2020 23:21

@Nic2908 same! Literally every twinge, I’m hoping it means he’s coming but then knowing me, I’ll freak out as soon as it’s actually happening 🙈

Pinktruffle · 09/12/2020 01:54

@EithneBlue great news about your little one. I hope he is home with you soon.

My LO is driving me mad tonight, he wont sleep, I've fed him, changed him, tried everything, it's been 3 hours now and I'm desperately trying not to fall asleep.

alphabetti · 09/12/2020 02:31

Been reading through everyone’s updates and finding it reassuring to know I’m not the only one who has a baby that will not sleep at night and I’m having to use formula at night too. My baby girl is 6days old and does not like to sleep alone. She will sleep for hours cuddled into someone but soon as she’s out down she cries and cries!

I’ve started making bit of process in the day but night time is tough. I mainly breastfeed in day with many feeds taking well over an hour but she’s feeding well - birthweight was 7lb3oz and day 5 measured 6lb15oz which they say good. At night im having to formula feed as so exhausted. Me and partner split night time as otherwise I would not get a minute of sleep. He sleeps upstairs 10-3 then I sleep 3-7.30 so at least we get decent chunk of sleep but I wish could get baby to just start sleeping in Moses basket/cot/carrycot for decent amount of time. She’s my 3rd so I feel the pressure that should know what I’m doing but feel useless sometimes. Overall I’m feeling good tho and can fit back into most my pre pregnancy clothes - there are couple pairs of jeans I darent try though haha I’m trying to eat as well as I can but then there times at night I’m hungry so just have couple biscuits or some toast.

Got call from older daughters school Monday saying she been in close contact with someone who tested positive so now has to self isolate and that is stressing me out as she can be lazy at times and therefore I’m worrying she might slip behind with school work and as she 14 in year 10 it’s important she keeps motivated and working hard. She did say this evening that whole year group now isolating due to 2 more further cases so they putting on more work at arranged certain times so that’s helped me. I just think why now with a newborn!!

MrsSmith2020 · 09/12/2020 02:47

@alphabetti congratulations- you sound like a pro! Sorry to hear about your elder daughters Covid situation, remember you're only human and you can only do so much.

You and your husband sound like a great team, good idea with the sleep too!

jalu47 · 09/12/2020 03:50

Ladies who have had c sections, please tell me the pain gets better quickly. I'm only 15hrs post surgery but I'm in agony with contractions and shooting pains 😫 Incision is also hurting. I'm maxed out on codeine and morphine.. luckily I seem to have the chillest bubba who is feeding for an hour then sleeping for four, fingers crossed that stays! Just a shame I can't maximise his sleep to catch up on mine..

@jalu47 morning lovely!

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain.
Was yours an emergency?
I'm having a C section tomorrow, so obviously very interested in any responses you get.

I had major surgery last year and one thing I would say that really helped me was being on top of my medication and taking it just before the previous doses wore off. Even if I felt fine. I just took the drugs. All of them!

Do you have enough medication? Can you call triage? Have you got someone to help you lift the baby? I would literally hand over to hubby for everything except feeding.
It's so important that you recover, so I would put yourself first for a couple of days to let the recovery and healing kick in.

Can you also take arnica tablets?

Hope you can rest and feel a little better soon x

MrsSmith2020 · 09/12/2020 05:18

@jalu47 just realised you're 15 hours post op. I'm guessing you're still in hospital.

Can you press your call button ?
They don't want you to be in pain, ask for help. Big big hugs x

jalu47 · 09/12/2020 06:24

Thanks @MrsSmith2020 and best of luck for yours!

I've had morphine and codeine on the dot of when I can. I can't take any anti inflammatories like voltorol or diclofenac as they set of my asthma and I know they normally give those at same time so perhaps I'm at a slight disadvantage... It was unplanned but not really an 'emergency' as baby wasn't in distress per se he just wasn't going to come out in that position.

Pain has calmed down a bit in the last few hours, the contracting and stabby / shooting pains just caught me off guard a bit. Partner can come back in from 8 and I've got some colostrum in the fridge so I'll be sleeping whilst he takes over. I've had 2 hrs sleep which sounds ridiculously low but am just grateful for that. Baby has been amazing so far and slept for x2 four hour blocks with just a feed in between. Poor fella was man handled out the cot a bit but it helped to wake him up for feeding! 😂

Amyyy1 · 09/12/2020 06:38

@loobeelou @Babyhope98 Thank you both! @chubbyhotchoc I really appreciate your advice from someone who has already been through it so thank you, I had already been dying for a wee but not knowing when I could go off the monitors to go haha!! Hopefully a more positive day today x

danielasummer · 09/12/2020 07:28

Ok....anyone that has been induced....positive stories/tips please? It looks like it's heading that way for me and I don't know anyone in real life that's had an induction! X

@jalu47 omg the pain is the worst I'm struggling bad with it the pain relief doesn't seem to be touching it I can barely stand up straight at moment and getting upstairs for a wee is a challenge my feet are still a little swollen also but not worried they will go down

peachypetite · 09/12/2020 09:45

@danielasummer good luck. My waters broke at home and I was half preparing for an induction but luckily many hours after they first broke I started getting contractions. My main worry was the intensity so I would listen to the advice @chubbyhotchoc gave you. Do you follow the positive birth company on Instagram? There are positive induction stories on there.

kkr168 · 09/12/2020 10:22

@alphabetti You & your partner sound like a great team, my husband is fab at taking over once he's home from work so I can get some rest but I have been doing the nights alone. I feel guilty keeping him up at night when he has work, plus I'm exclusively breast feeding so he cant really help in that department 😂 I tried out the breast pump for the 1st time yesterday, managed 2oz after the baby had fed, so he will be able to help with the odd feed soon. I'm also back in my pre-pregnancy clothes, tried my jeans yesterday thinking they wouldn't possibly fit but they did.

Well after the dummy being a 1 night success, the grobag & babypod were also 1 night success stories. He will be fast asleep in my arms but as soon as I put him in his next to me crib he wakes up within minutes & screams & screams, it takes ages to settle him again after. Is anyone on here co-sleeping? It looks as though we might end up going down that route.

@jalu47 congratulations on your baby, love his name. I didn't have a c section but did experience after birth contractions, I found mine up there with my strongest labour pains. Thankfully the worst came in the 1st 24 hours, I then had some less painful ones the following 24 hours & none since, so hopefully yours ease up soon too.

Our baby is 1 week old today, it feels like he's always been here, I couldn't imagine life without him. We might finally have a name too, we both like Bailey, taken us long enough to agree on any.

If you're a couple days behind me on getting things started I shall keep you updated of my progress🤣 Since ive had the night to think about it, I'm feeling better and just focusing on baby being in my arms soon! I agree with @peachypetite if you haven't already to look up positive birth company's Instagram, they have lots of induction stories on there x
alphabetti · 09/12/2020 10:31

@danielasummer @Amyyy1 I had my induction last Wednesday and if you feel you need toilet whilst on the trace monitor just ask to go as all they do is detach the leases and tuck them into the elastic bands that holding the trace pads onto your stomach. Very worst case of you needed toilet but baby needed constant monitoring they could put a bed pan under you but I think they’d rather just let you go to toilet if you need it.

Do ask for pain relief when you need it. My induction brought on a fast painful labour but as my cervix had been high at time of prostin being inserted it was expected I’d need at least 2nd tablet so when the pain started I just thought reaction to the prostin and didn’t any to be a drama queen asking for pain relief too early but I was in fact in labour. I think everyone’s bodies are different and could react differently to the induction so try to just go with what is best for you so if you feel in too much pain or uncomfortable call the midwife and ask for pain relief or to be examined to see what exactly is happening.

lc86 · 09/12/2020 10:33

@jalu47 @Kj1010 I am now day 6 post c section and every day gets a bit better. I had forgotten how painful it was after! Xx

lc86 · 09/12/2020 10:35

@jalu47 @Kj1010 download an app for reminders when to take painkillers so you don't miss any and I 100% recommend gas relief tablets!! I'd have been lost without them! And just accept any help you are offered. I did too much the first day I was home and paid for it in the night. Don't forget normally we would have been in hospital the first 3/4 nights xx

Congrats everyone who has had a baby since I was last here! And welcome back @chubbyhotchoc!
Baby is 4 days old now and I’m struggling. Feel like I get the hang of things and start to feel like I’ve got this and then have a morning like this one where she cried for a solid 3/4 hours. Back is killing me and I’ve been quite gassy and needing the loo a good couple times a day like my digestion has gone into overdrive now baby is out. Wouldn’t be an issue but our girl also howls the second you put her down so struggling with night times and trading off naps in the day but that leaves us bursting for the loo until shift change. And now to top it all my milks come in on one side so struggling to get a balance between breasts and she’s decided the only place she likes to be is hanging off my nipple so I’m caught with her screaming or trying to sooth her on my red raw boobs. Please someone tell me it gets easier?
And to anyone still waiting for baby- I would do the labour all over again for a decent nights sleep. Trust me it’s a piece of cake compared to this first week
