@NaomiB79 I am combi feeding her giving her about one 90ml bottle feeding every night. I'm not sure if this is making it worse. We went one day without formula and she did a lot more dirty nappies but really struggle without formula at night so finally given into it.

EithneBlue · 05/12/2020 12:25

@peachypetite - We are doing good: I was discharged yesterday from hospital - felt a bit weird being home without baby but it was also really nice to just be at home. He has almost finished re-warming so we should get to hold him today which is very exciting. I'm currently in the car park whilst my husband is inside visiting (NICU has 24/7 visiting but only for one parent at a time apart from one 2 hour booked slot each day for us to visit together) - I get to go in and hang out with both of them at 1pm, then after 3 it's my husband's turn to wait in the car :-)
I've been expressing milk every 3-4 hours round the clock to make sure he has enough food and keep my milk supply up - the NICU leant me a really good pump which helps a lot. He's likely to take some time to adapt to the breast because he's been sedated for a little while (and because he was being cooled hasn't been fed yet) but at least I know I can get good amounts from the pump whilst we adapt :-)

I haven't been reading the thread this week but I hope everyone else here is doing OK and that those babies are behaving themselves xx

LRHRN · 05/12/2020 12:51

@Asianchick6693 I've been exactly the same and LO is exactly the same. We have infacol now too.
My HV has told me to be careful what I'm eating as it may affect her. Apparently breast fed baby's don't poo much 🤷🏼‍♀️

She tenses up and really grunts but miraculously she's perfectly fine if she's lay tummy to tummy with me, also sleeps all day and is unsettled at night
Are you and baby having vitamin d supplements? I didn't know anything about this until HV told me, the midwives never mentioned anything.

LRHRN · 05/12/2020 12:58

@Kj1010 I'm so sorry about your mum just be a really terrible time for you.
I'm sure the baby will be just what your mum needs at the minute.
So so close now to meeting your baby, everything will be just fine xx

@peachypetite definitely a zombie

I was at the doctors yesterday and I've got an infection in my uterus 😖 explains the fever and uncontrollable shaking. Antibiotics for 5 days but unfortunately means LO will get a small dose too which may give her the runs 😔

kkr168 · 05/12/2020 13:27

Good luck @Awkes

We went for mine & baby's check up this morning, both doing very well. He's lost 4% of his birth weight, which the midwife said is very good, my milk came in yesterday & feeding is going very well.
The only issue were having is the baby has a very bunged up nose, so feeding is taking longer because he has to stop to breathe & he's not liking lying flat for the same reason. I had to sit up all night last night, keeping baby upright so that he could get some sleep. We've been shopping this morning & got some nasal drops & a warm air humidifier, so hopefully tonight goes better.

Had my baby girl Wednesday night. Was induced with the prostin tablet inserted at 3.30pm but told unlikely to work with just first tablet as cervix was high. About 6 I started to get pains every 4/5mins but wasn’t sure they were actual contractions as cervix hadn’t really been favourable. Midwife came to me before she left for the night and said as cervix had been high the pains were prob just effects of tablet starting to work but if needed pain relief to ask. I hung on tho thinking would keep pain relief for when things got real but spent most the time kneeling on floor in agony and a HCA cane along about 9 and asked if I was ok. I just couldn’t stop crying saying I hated being alone. She got midwife who got me paracetamol and codamol but I took them and vomited 30secs later.

By then I was in constant pain and was pleading for something to help but because they’d given me the paracetamol and codamol they needed authorisation from a DR for further pain relief even tho it was unlikely they’d taken effect due to the vomiting. I pleaded for something so midwife examined me and was 4cm so they took me to labour room. Got there at 10 and they said call your partner so I did only managing to say you need to come right now!

They gave me gas and air which made me feel out of it but it def helped with the pain. Partner arrived at 10.15 as I was feeling needing to push. Midwife looked and membrane sack right there so she asked for consent to break them and when she did baby’s head came out with 1 push. They told me to push again to get shoulders out but I’m not sure why but apparently I said no more pushing I can’t and they told my partner to push button to get extra help in. He just told me push the shoulders out and suddenly reality kicked in and I pushed and baby came out and cried and was immediately handed to me.

There’s been concerns she was only on 10th centile but was born 39+1 weighing 7lb3oz. She’s totally perfect just a terrible sleeper at night but working to try n her her into a routine. Tried breastfeeding but her blood sugar levels were bit low so special care said she needed topping with formula then when she wouldn’t settle a midwife said she’s hungry you’ll have to give formula but continue putting her to the breast too if you want. So I’m using formula as she only wants to take less than 1 ounce every 3.5-4hrs and putting her to the breast when she needs comforting. She’s very mucasy and windy but they say it from the fast delivery so just to persevere with feeding her as often as she will take. Congratulations to everyone who has had babies and I hope everyone enjoying their special moments.

loobeelou · 05/12/2020 15:10

Congratulations @alphabetti.

Best of luck @Awkes.

LRHRN · 05/12/2020 15:47

@alphabetti wow what an amazing labour story. I'm so glad your husband could be with you but it's so devastating you had to do a lot alone.
At least it's all a distant memory now you've got your beautiful baby 🥰 congratulations xxx

Amyyy1 · 05/12/2020 16:07

@alphabetti wow, sounds like that all happened rather fast! Congratulations 🥰

I hope everyone who has had their babies are doing ok and not too sleep deprived!!

I had an absolute rubbish appointment with sweep yesterday with a midwife who only wanted to talk about inducing and that being the only way to go. Feel like a deflated balloon at this point

NaomiB79 · 05/12/2020 19:06

Congratulations @alphabetti what a quick birth! Enjoy every minute with your baby girl! Xx

phe694 · 05/12/2020 19:44

hey girls, congratulations to everyone, just had a quick scroll! after being told yesterday no sign of baby, and an induction booked for wednesday. my little girl arrived at 1:06pm, completely in her sac, an amazing water birth, which happened so quick😳 now all settled at home 💗

loobeelou · 05/12/2020 20:21

Wow that's amazing! Congratulations @phe694

Asianchick6693 · 05/12/2020 20:34

@LRHRN how often is your LO doing a dirty diaper? Mine only does 1. Is this normal? She'll be 14 days tomorrow. I need to start taking vitamin D. I don't know if it is better that I take it or use the drop on the nipple before a feed.

She seems a lot more settled today. She has been grunting and squirming but not so severely. I have been giving her belly rubs, doing bicycles and burping her every feed. My mistake was not burping her from the beginning but the midwife said breastfed babies don't need to be burped. Different ones say different things.

Awkes · 05/12/2020 22:36

Anyone got any advice? Contractions started at 4am and were strong and consistent by lunch. Decided to persevere at home and they tapered off 🤦🏻‍♀️ Managed a bit of sleep despite the on and off contractions but still just exhausted. Contractions seem to be coming in a pattern again now but don’t know if I should get myself excited again in case it all goes away again

Asianchick6693 · 05/12/2020 22:48

@Awkes same happened to me for nearly 5 days until my waters broke and then labour progressed pretty quickly. I gave birth within 24 hours of my waters breaking. It's totally normal I think to have them on and off, been told it can even go on for weeks. Sounds like your body is preparing for the real thing :)

Awkes · 06/12/2020 00:12

Thanks @Asianchick6693 another day of this sounds awful 😭 don’t know how you coped! Lack of sleep is killing me now, I feel awful. Coming every 7 minutes now so hoping the hospital will take me and at least give me something to sleep

Nic2908 · 06/12/2020 00:16

@phe694 wow. Congratulations.

Asianchick6693 · 06/12/2020 00:19

@Awkes I didn't cope very well once my waters had gone 😭 my baby was back to back and the contractions were so painful even when I was 2cm dilated that they kept me in hospital from there on. I took every pain relief available but nothing worked and by the time I wanted the epidural, it was too late.

They usually say contractions have to be every 2-3 minutes apart lasting for 60 seconds and getting more and more intense for a couple of hours before going in. I was having them every 5 minutes but I lied and said every 3 minutes because I was that desperate to be seen as I couldn't cope with the pain. If your pain is really bad I'd just ask them if it is possible to be seen.

Awkes · 06/12/2020 03:50

That sounds awful @asianchick6693 I fibbed and said I thought my waters had gone and good job I did. Was only 2cm dilated but blood pressure a bit high and protein in my urine so just waiting for them to make a room up and I’ll be going to get my waters broken. Nice to know there’s an end in sight and baby will be here soon so quite glad really. Thanks for all your advice 😘

Asianchick6693 · 06/12/2020 03:58

@Awkes how exciting! Glad you got seen, you're in the best place now. All the best and keep us updated on how you get on!

@phe694 congratulations 💕 hope you're enjoying your little bundle of joy!

PipTed · 06/12/2020 04:10

Hey all! Just popped on to say my little one was born on 4th December via emergency section, after home birthing for over 17 hours (12 in active labour).
We welcomed a little boy earth side, weighing a huge 8lbs 7 oz at 41+1 weeks- not bad for a ‘small baby’
Still in hospital, hoping to be discharged today. I’m so in love

Asianchick6693 · 06/12/2020 04:25

@PipTed aww congratulations beautiful! Glad you and baby are doing well. Bet you're excited to be going home! Make sure you rest up as much as you can at every opportunity. x

peachypetite · 06/12/2020 05:43

I’ve had a really bad night. Baby has not stopped crying for three hours solid and I’ve been crying too. She usually only cries when she’s hungry but she was fed and wouldn’t stop. Wondering if she had gas as she kept going really stuff.

NaomiB79 · 06/12/2020 07:09

@peachypetite it's awful when they do that. Sounds like gas / colic. I had the worst day yesterday my baby screamed from 4pm until about 3am this morning, nothing would console her, because of the colic. I was crying a lot too. She finally went to sleep about 3.30am and has just woken, I feel broken 😢.

loobeelou · 06/12/2020 07:32

Congratulations @PipTed

Sorry to hear your little ones are suffering with colic. I recommend gripe water (can't remember the age limit though sorry). I used to put a bit on DS dummy, worked a treat. Hopefully you can get some rest today and a better night sleep x
